WSDG BRINGS NETWORK-QUALITY STREAMING TO PELOTON’S FLAGSHIP NYC SPINNING CENTER

NEW YORK: In developing a NYC flagship site for live and on-demand, indoor spinning classes, the Peloton brain trust recognized the need for a cutting edge video broadcast studio for the streaming element of their visionary program. Company co-founders, CEO, John Foley, COO, Tom Cortese and Marion Roaman, (an indoor cycling pioneer), engaged Walters-Storyk Design Group for the acoustic and isolation design of a broadcast-quality production facility with studio lighting and systems integration. The resulting Production Control Room (PCR) and 60-bike TV Studio is a key component of the 8000 square foot complex. Located at 140 West 23rd Street in NYC, Peloton Chelsea also features spa-quality ambience, a refreshment lounge and, a sports fashion retail shop.

“Peloton presented us with a multi-faceted assignment,” reports WSDG Principal/ Director of International Relations, Sergio Molho. “They required a state-of-the-art production studio to stream live (and recorded) spinning classes to Peloton enthusiasts around the globe. The studio had to be technically flawless and aesthetically striking. Users will enjoy it in operation through the global Peloton Cycle video network.”

WSDG Project Manager Joshua Morris, emphasizes Peloton management’s deep concerns about sound leakage. “Music and instructor audio levels have to be inspirationally loud for this type of installation, and the complex is built on the ground floor of a mixed use business/residential wood framed building,” Morris says. “The neighbors living directly above the cycling classes had to be isolated from intrusive sound. This was achieved via recording studio-style, room-within-room construction for the 1500 sq. ft. Spinning/Streaming Studio. The Peloton team did their homework and were fully aware of WSDG’s expertise in this area.”

The Peloton production facility introduces a new level of broadcast quality video through the Internet. The space is tailored to enhance the image quality of the webcast while maintaining the requisite fitness ambiance for the in-house Spinners. The 300 sq. ft. Production Control Room sports a state-of-the-art Newtek Tricaster production switcher and a Telemetrics robotic camera controller connected to 3 Sony PTZ cameras and a Telemetrics track and PTZ camera which provides high end and ultra steady camera moves and shots. PCR video display is provided by two 55” LCD monitors. The audio system is run by a fully-automatable Biamp Nexia console coupled with a Martin Engineering DSP, Genelec monitor and Sennheiser wireless microphones. The lighting system is controlled by LightJockey™ via a Windows-based USB to DMX interface. Ipod docks and a full-blown Nexo line array complete the equation in the Spinning Studio for unrivaled audio quality from the beginning to the end of the chain.

Peloton CEO and Co-Founder John Foley remarked, “Our goal was to ensure our on-site classes of crystal clear audio and, to provide our at-home constituents with Network-quality audio and video streaming. We were also committed to being good neighbors and, to protecting building residents from intrusive sound from our studio. WSDG has designed broadcast studios for ESPN, WNET and MTV Latin America. They’ve provided exemplary acoustics for such performance venues as Jazz At Lincoln Center and 54 Below, and their recording studio clients include Jimi Hendrix, Alicia Keys and Bruce Springsteen. We knew we were in good hands, and we are confident that our on-site, and at home, enthusiasts will benefit greatly from our efforts to provide them with the ultimate in fitness connectivity.”

LATEST ALBUM FROM JAMES HOUSE RECORDED WITH API’s THE BOX

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – MAY 2014: With a resurgence of his country music hits from the 1990s, singer/songwriter/producer James House is keeping busy with a new album which was just released, and a sold-out sixteen-show tour throughout the UK. While recording tracks for Broken Glass/Twisted Steel, James wanted to achieve the classic “API sound” from the comfort of his home studio in Nashville – Dream On Studios. To attain the specific sound he had in mind, James rented API’s THE BOX from Blackbird Rentals for the summing of the album’s final mixes.

The project began at Ben’s Studio in Nashville, where each of the tracks was recorded on two-inch tape through a classic API 3232 console. The tape was then sent to James’ home studio, where he recorded the vocals, guitar overdubs, and mixing. While he was at Ben’s Studio, James heard tracks that were cut for an early demonstration of THE BOX. “It sounded like classic, warm API,” recalls James. “I’m a big fan of API in the first place, which is one of the reasons why we cut at Ben’s Studio.”

Noting the design and layout of THE BOX, James appreciates how the small-format console is portable, yet creates a classic API sound. “Without it, I would have had to rent a studio with an API console to sum the record. With THE BOX, I was able to rent it for two or three days and take my time summing and getting all the versions of the mixes. The size and design fills a gap between tracking in a commercial studio and in a smaller home studio.”

James recalls that the sixteen summing channels were a key factor that drew him to the console, as well as the overall quality and clarity it helped him achieve. “I just A/B’d the record with one of my earlier records, and it has a punch and presence that I love.” The first single off the album, titled “Every Time It Rains,” has already earned airtime on top country stations, and the song’s presence is growing with the release of its music video.

“I knew THE BOX was a smart idea,” said James. “The mixes gelled exactly like we hoped they would.”

ABOUT API (AUTOMATED PROCESSES, INC.) Established more than 45 years ago, Automated Processes, Inc. is the leader in analog recording gear with the Vision, Legacy Series, 1608 and THE BOX recording consoles, as well as its classic line of modular signal processing equipment.

SSL Live Delivers The Sound For Triple Platinum Country Artist Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down Tour

“Live mixes the functionality of a digital console with the sound of an analogue desk, including all the transparency, clarity and transient response”

NASHVILLE
– The engineering team for Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down tour is bringing the artist’s popular brand of country rock to the next sonic level with an SSL Live console for both FOH and monitoring. A triple platinum artist who has released such albums as My Kinda Party, Relentless and Wide Open, Aldean has been wowing fans for years, packing in tens of thousands of enthusiastic attendees at each of his shows. For his latest U.S. tour, Aldean’s team is benefiting from the flexibility of Live and its trademark SSL sound quality.

Chris Stephens, Aldean’s front of house engineer, has been working with the artist for the past five years and was previously with Michael McDonald and Wynonna. When he first sat down with the Live console, Stephens knew that he found his console of choice. “As each tour became progressively more complicated, Evan [Richner, Aldean’s monitor engineer] and I knew we had to make a change,” explains Stephens. “The SSL Live fits all of our needs. It has an extensive feature set and amazing sound quality because it mixes the functionality of a digital console with the sound of an analogue desk, including all of the transparency, clarity and transient response. I’ve never heard a digital console that sounds like this, ever.”

The true test for Stephens was when he was able to do an A-B comparison on his old console and Live at the same time during tour rehearsals. “I was impressed with Live when prepping for the tour on my studio monitors, but once we were able to pull audio up on the PA in an arena, we were able to make a true comparison,” continues Stephens. “It is difficult to get an accurate sense of a console’s sound when you’re in a small room. When we were finally on the road with Live, I realized how much processing I had been using to compensate for the sound of the old console. The difference in sound quality was apparent from the first note. Even people who don’t know anything about audio thought Live was noticeably better.”

Richner has been with Aldean since 2005 and finds the sound and features of Live to be a real asset along the tour. “The sound quality is amazing; it’s a great sounding desk,” states Richner. “At music rehearsals, using Live for the first time, the guys came in and our guitar player walked up, put his ears in, hit four notes and was blown away. He was like, ‘We’re good!’ While the sound quality was a big bonus for us, the thing that is most important is that console also is extremely flexible, easy to use and powerful. The automation functions and grouping capabilities are spot on. It’s nice to be able to make the SSL Live do whatever I want. Depending on the way I need to use it, it can be a completely different console from one performance to the next. I have never seen another console with the features of Live.”

Stephens echoes Richner’s sentiments regarding the flexibility of the Live console. For the FOH mix, he uses both SSL plug-ins and a Waves MultiRack Soundgrid outboard processor to accomplish the final sound. “As far as routing capabilities, I don’t know of any other console that allows me to have the flexibility of Live,” explains Stephens. “Being able to rearrange the signal path of each channel individually and the capability of routing stem groups to each other are two features you don’t usually find in a console. I haven’t run into a routing scenario with Live that I haven’t been able to work out. No other console works like Live.”

Studio Tenn Chooses Hitachi for Tennessee Performing Arts Center Production

Nashville, Tennessee, May 20, 2014 – Hitachi’s CP-WX8265 projector was instrumental in Studio Tenn’s critically acclaimed debut of Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Polk Theater.

Located in Nashville, the James K. Polk Theater is an intimate proscenium theater for its size, with a maximum seating capacity of 1,075. The distance from the projection booth to the back wall of the set is 102 feet and the projection area is approximately 56 x 20 feet.

“We found the Hitachi projector to be very bright and quite simple to use—it was a perfect solution for our needs,” said Mitch White, Technical Director, Studio Tenn. “The image was fantastic despite the long throw using the standard lens.”

The Hitachi CP-WX8265 was instrumental in adding “strikingly modern twists” to TPAC’s rendition of the classic Christmas play which featured an 18-member cast, a full orchestra and fog effects. Traditionally performed in the more intimate Franklin Theater, this was the first year that TPAC used the Polk Theater for A Christmas Carol.

The Studio Tenn Theatre company was established in 2009 in order to combine talent from Nashville and Broadway, bringing classic works of drama and musical theatre to life in Middle Tennessee.

“Peter Vaque of SpringTree Media Group in Franklin, TN suggested Hitachi when we told him what we wanted to do,” said Jake Speck, Managing Director, Studio Tenn. “Video elements are an integral part of what we put on stage and that simply can’t be compromised. Needless to say, we were thrilled with the Hitachi projector’s performance.”

The Hitachi CP-WX8265 3LCD projector features 6,500 ANSI lumens brightness, motorized lens shift, Perfect Fit (which allows easy shaping of the projection to fit to the projecting area) and setup memory, which allows for quickly changing lens and focus settings for specific scenes.

New Comprehensive Company Catalog from ICE Cable Systems Aims to Help Dealers Make More-Informed Structured Wiring Buying Decisions

Available in webzine and PDF formats at www.icecable.com, the 34-page catalog provides a detailed overview of the company’s products and strong adherence to safety and performance standards including UL, ETL, RoHS and HDBaseT. The design layout is much like a high-end car brochure, making for a compelling and easy-to-digest “read”

Los Angeles, CA – May 20, 2014 – Established in 2004, ICE Cable Systems is a leading manufacturer of premium low-voltage wire and cable products that serves the Audio Video, Alarm and Security, Commercial, Electrical Contracting and Data Center channels. The company has created a full-color 34-page catalog that is available for viewing in webzine and PDF formats at www.icecable.com – with printed versions mailing to all its dealers and distributors now.

”The goal of the catalog is to provide a comprehensive yet easy-to-read piece that will help dealers develop a stronger understanding of the many types of structured wiring, connectors and accessories that we offer – and why our adherence to safety and performance standards such as UL, ETL, RoHS and HDBaseT is so crucial for their businesses. This should help them make better decisions when specifying for the diverse and complex jobs they encounter,” says ICE Cable Systems President Brian Rizzo.

”We wanted to create a catalog that would capture the essence of ICE Cable Systems — the passion that we have for wire & cable — while providing technical information as deep as the reader wants to take it,” describes Rizzo. “To achieve this we are utilizing a layout reminiscent to what you might find in a BMW or Mercedes brochure where the first pages are emotional with cars in action, sensation, speed (all very broad), followed by an exploded view of the engine, and as you get further in it breaks things down to the nitty gritty. Similarly our catalog starts with broad strokes — company philosophy, exploded product pictures and features/benefits — and then gets into the line and specs further in.”

”This catalog should also serve to reinforce ICE Cable System’s position in the marketplace as a premium brand. This is important for us as the view of the structured wiring category is so often that of commodity and shopped on price alone. What dealers need to understand is that bargain-brand pricing often leads to performance problems either out-of-the-gate or down the line,” added Rizzo. “And that’s costly.”

The catalog features sections on:
· Product highlights of the company’s most innovative products
· Product listings (descriptions, colors, compatibilities)
· An in-depth look at cable standards and performance
· Competitors cross reference chart
· How ICE makes premium cable

For more information on the catalog please contact ICE Cable Systems at 310.444.1950.

For all ICE Cable Systems media inquiries please contact Paul Muto at 631.849.4301 or paul@mutocomm.com.
