New Yamaha Amplifiers Added to CIS Product Line

LAS VEGAS—Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. will launch two new amplifiers at InfoComm 2014 that will add to the growing number of Commercial Installations Solutions (CIS) products. The user-friendly UI of the MA2030/PA2030 are based on years of experience developing AV products and musical instruments.

At a targeted MSRP of $399, the MA2030 mixer amplifier, available in the summer of 2014, provides functionality not normally seen in products at this price point. World-renowned DSP technology allows product features such as Priority Ducking, Feedback Reduction, Auto Leveling, Speaker Processing, and simple remote connectivity. The MA2030 is the only mixer amp in its class that provides a low-cost optional DCP1V1S wall controller panel connected over a common Cat5 cable for simple user control without having to access the amplifier. The DCP mounts in a standard single gang wall box and provides one knob and four switches.

The PA2030 can easily provide more power by adding two more 30-watt channels to the MA2030 and also works great as a low-cost, high or low impedance amplifier. Reliable Yamaha quality and a “green” and silent design equipped with a highly efficient class-D circuit with a fan-less cooling design, the PA2030 will be available at an MSRP of $299 in the summer of 2014.

“When we originally introduced the CIS product line, we knew it was only a first step in bringing great value, Yamaha reliability, and technology features to the market, states Marc Lopez, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems. Inc. The tradition continues with the addition of these two new products.”

The MA2030 mixer amp features three stereo line inputs (two RCA, one Mini-Stereo plug), two mic inputs (one Euro Block, one combination XLR/phone jack), one Stereo output (RCA), two amplifier outputs (2×30 watts at high impedance, 70v or 100v, or low impedance from 3 to 8 ohms), and one DCP control port (RJ45 supports one DCP1V4S with power and control).

The PA2030 power amp has two stereo line input options (RCA and Euro Block), two amplifier outputs (2×30 watts at high impedance, 70v or 100v, or low impedance from 3 to 8 ohms).

For more information on the new Yamaha MA2030 mixer amp and PA2030 power amp, visit Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. in booth #C10716 at InfoComm 2014 or visit www.yamahaca.com.

Devoted Fans Celebrate 311 Day with Five Hours of Music and Lighting From HARMAN’s Martin Professional

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — Devoted 311 fans swarmed to New Orleans this year for the ultimate celebratory concert experience on March 11, better known as 311 Day. Showcasing a culmination of 11 albums, including their most recent studio album released earlier this year, titled Stereolithic, HARMAN’s Martin Professional Atomic 3000 DMX strobes (10) and M6 lighting console were deployed by Joe Paradise, Lighting Designer.

311, an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska formed in 1988, created 311 Day in 2000 when the band played 47 songs straight. Since then, the band has consistently increased its set list, including over five-and-a-half hours of music this year.

“The biggest challenge is being able to program at a high rate of speed and to be able to have most of the songs programmed ‘cue to cue’,” Paradise said about the M6 console. “I have used Martin consoles since the Maxxyz lighting console came out and have always been impressed with the ease of programming and how simple but diverse the effects engine is.”

“I switched to the M1 because of how solid it is and the familiar syntax and since then have chosen the M6 for the same reason. I really do enjoy the larger format and the numerous playbacks. I am really happy with how modular it is and I really enjoy the variety of playback placement types as well as the playback options. The touch screens are really easy on the eyes but vivid and very accurate. It just keeps getting better!”

On this particular show, Paradise had Martin’s M1 console standing by as a network backup console, but it was never needed. “The goal was to make this a very special event for hardcore fans of 311,” Paradise stated. “I wanted to make the show look a lot larger than it was and make the audience feel as though they were part of it as opposed to just being there. The M6 console makes getting what you see in your mind’s eye to the fixtures very simple and effortless.”

Paradise, who has used just about every Martin fixture since the MAC 250s and 300s came out, utilized the Atomic strobes to create diverse effects for the audience. “The crowd really responded to some of the looks and gags we put together and everyone walked away very happy! It was a great experience and I always enjoy using Martin to showcase my vision.”

As a world leader in the creation of dynamic lighting solutions for the entertainment, architectural, and commercial sectors, Martin lighting and video systems are renowned the world over. Martin also offers a range of advanced lighting controllers and media servers, as well as a complete line of smoke machines as a complement to intelligent lighting. FUJIFILM to Showcase All PL 4K and Cabrio Cine-Style Lenses at Hollywood’s Cine Gear Expo 2014

Wayne, N.J. – The Optical Devices Division of FUJIFILM North America Corporation will showcase its entire range of Premier PL 4K+ cine lenses and the Cabrio cine/ENG-Style lens series at the Cine Gear Expo 2014, being held from June 5-8 at The Studios at Paramount in Hollywood.

The Premier PL 4K+ Series features the fastest T speeds available in a family of zooms, with unprecedented color matched 4K and beyond optical performance. The entire range of Premier PL 4K+ cine lenses will be in the booth. The 14.5-45mm T2.0, 18-85mm T2.0, 24-180mm T2.6, and 75-400mm T2.8-T3.8 will all be on display. All four PL Mount zooms are similar in size and weight, and uniform gear placement and front barrel diameters (136mm). Focus, zoom, and iris gears are all in the same position—which speeds up lens changes, since follow focus accessories and lens motors can stay in the same position on the rods. Focus barrel rotation is a uniform 280 degrees on all four zooms.

Premier PL 4K lenses have been used by several acclaimed DPs for feature films including Life of Pi, Oblivion and Iron Man 3.

The latest addition to its popular series of cine zooms – the FUJINON Premier PL 25-300mm Cabrio [ZK12x25], introduced in April at the NAB show – will be on hand with the rest of the Cabrio series at Cine Gear. Equipped with a 35mm PL mount, the PL 25-300mm boasts a high zoom ratio covering the focal length of 25mm to 300mm. The PL 25-300mm supports an optional, detachable servo drive for electric zooming, focusing and iris. Mounting the unit enables remote control of zoom, focus, and iris adjustment.

FUJINON’s popular Cabrio series includes the new PL 25-300mm (model ZK 12×25), PL 19-90 (model ZK4.7×19), PL 85-300 (model ZK3.5×85) and PL 14-28mm (model ZK2x14). The PL 19-90, PL 85-300, and PL 14-28 Cabrio feature exclusive detachable servo drive units, making them suitable for use as a standard PL lens or as an ENG-style lens. And they can be controlled using cinema industry standard wireless controllers as well as existing FUJINON wired and wireless units.

Designed using the latest proprietary optical simulation software, the entire range of Cabrio lenses offer exceptional optical performance in the center of the image and in the corners of the frame. The digital servo’s 16-bit encoding assures operators that all lens data output—including the position of the zoom, iris, and focus—is extremely accurate. The zooms support Lens Data System (LDS) and /i Technology metadata formats, and can be controlled using cinema industry standard wireless controllers as well as existing FUJINON wired and wireless units.

The PL 25-300, PL 19-90, PL 85-300, and PL 14-28mm FUJINON lenses are equipped with flange focal distance adjustment, a macro function for extreme close-up focus, and coverage of a 31.5mm diagonal sensor.

Cabrio lenses are being used in TV series and feature film production, including several 3D features currently in production.

“Cine Gear is a thriving show attended by some of our most loyal customers,” said Thom Calabro, director, marketing and product development, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Optical Devices Division. “We always look forward to connecting with them and meeting potential new users during Cine Gear. It continually draws an audience of key decision makers in entertainment production, and we’re eager to show off our 4K and Cabrio zooms this year.”

This year marks FUJIFILM’s 80th anniversary, and 40 years for the Optical Devices Division, formerly known as FUJINON, in the U.S.

Riedel Solution Supports Red Bull-Sponsored Wings for Life World Run Staged Across 34 Countries

Dedicated to Funding Spinal Cord Injury Research, Run Organizers Leverage Riedel Systems in One of the Largest SIP VoIP Installations Ever Implemented for a Live Global Event

WUPPERTAL, Germany — May 21, 2014 — Riedel Communications, provider of pioneering real-time video, audio, data, and communications networks, today announced that it provided the global communications backbone for the Wings for Life World Run, sponsored by Red Bull and supporting research to cure spinal cord injuries. An extensive installation of Riedel’s Artist digital matrix intercom system and MediorNet real-time media network supported race-day communications worldwide, as well as production of a television broadcast and a live streaming broadcast with updates from all 34 participating countries. RecordLab TV & Media GmbH was responsible for providing the broadcast infrastructure for the event.

“The flexibility and reliability of Riedel solutions make them an ideal fit for complex large-scale global events, such as the Wings for Life World Run,” said Boris Kantzow, senior project engineer at Riedel. “Building on the Artist intercom system and MediorNet network, we were able to pull off a truly remarkable event that raised an amazing 3 million euros for spinal cord research.”

On May 4 at 10 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time, more than 35,000 runners began the race simultaneously in 34 countries on six continents. Half an hour later, two “catcher cars” at each site began pursuit at 16 kmph (approximately 10 mph), using sensors to mark the time each athlete was caught and passed. The last woman and man to be “caught” earned the title of Wings for Life World Run Champion. The global winner was Lemawork Ketema of Ethiopia, who covered 78.58 kilometers (48.83 miles).

Because the race format spanned 13 times zones and lacked any fixed finish lines, coordination presented an enormous logistical challenge for the 110 timekeepers and organizers. The timekeeping and satellite news gathering (SNG) operations, with some 200 cameras feeding live images of the racing action, were based at the Red Bull Ring F1 circuit in Spielberg, Austria.

The Riedel solution implemented by Red Bull included five Artist nodes deployed in a dual redundant fiber ring to provide 448 ports in a nonblocking system. Eighty control panels were spread across global race control, the outside broadcast (OB) truck, and all editing areas, with some panels connected via Riedel’s MediorNet real-time media network to the SNG compound and other broadcast and social media facilities. All video and audio signals were distributed on Riedel’s MediorNet system, and Riedel’s CCP-1116 commentary units supported the main commentary position, as well as the radio program.

Each race site was connected to the system by two session initiation protocol (SIP) VoIP lines, one technical coordination circuit, and one production coordination circuit in what was likely the largest SIP VoIP installation ever implemented for such a global event. SIP VoIP cards in the Artist nodes were connected directly to a local VoIP private automatic branch exchange. To enable mobile communications, Riedel’s RiFace universal radio interface systems connected Motorola radios on eight UHF radio channels.

“The exciting thing about the Wings of Life World Run was the ability to have high quality and reliable global intercom communications despite having virtually no opportunity for a proper facilities test leading up to the event, said Christoph Winter, freelance communications engineer. “For a smooth connection between 34 countries, each with two coordination circuits, it was important that all involved parties be able to interact perfectly. Other key elements were a high degree of professionalism, optimum coordination, a faultless IT infrastructure to enable the connection to the SIP provider, and the excellent cooperation of OB van supplier RecordLab, who supplied the MediorNet real time network and Artist systems.”

Further information about Riedel and the company’s products is available at www.riedel.net.

Recording Industry Golf Tournament™ (RIGT) Announces Helicopter Golf Ball Drop

— Annual charity event, to be held at Malibu Golf Club, Monday, June 2, kicks it up a notch with an exciting Helicopter Golf Ball Drop at the conclusion of the tournament —

Los Angeles, CA, May 20, 2014 — The 2014 Recording Industry Golf Tournament™ (RIGT), which will be held Monday, June 2, 2014, at Malibu Golf Club, is adding to the fun and festivities at this annual charity event with a Helicopter Golf Ball Drop at the conclusion of the tournament. This unique event will help to raise additional funds to benefit the music program at A Place Called Home, a dynamic community center and safe haven in South Central Los Angeles where underserved youth 8-21 years old are empowered to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives through programs in education, arts and well-being. The tournament is again being organized by seasoned event producer Karen Dunn of KMD Productions, with Recording veterans Ed Cherney and Al Schmitt serving as Honorary Co-Chairs.

Anyone can participate in the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, whether planning on attending the tournament in person or not. Numbered golf balls will be dropped out of a helicopter onto a target (a hole), and the balls that are closest in proximity to the pin win prizes based on their distance from that hole (you do not have to be present to win). RIGT are currently selling the numbered golf balls via the website at: http://lu6717.wix.com/recording-industry. Every person who “buys” a ball (or multiple balls) will be given numbers corresponding back to their purchase so they know where they stand – much like a raffle ticket. A complete list of prizes will be announced shortly.

Dunn has limited availability for sponsors and golfers as the event continues to gain momentum. In addition to the 18 holes of pristine golfing, the day will include a $1 million hole-in-one opportunity, contests for longest drive and longest putt, a “closest to the pin” competition, “funnest hole,” a putting contest, a silent auction and more. Dunn and the Record Plant’s Rose Mann-Cherney will be driving the “world famous tequila cart” to make sure all of the day’s participants are playing their best.

Confirmed sponsors include Audio-Technica, Clyne Media, Dave Collins Mastering, Design FX Audio, GC Pro/Sterling Audio, JBL Professional®, NAMM, PreSonus, The Recording Studio Insurance Program, Record Plant, SAE LA, studioexpresso.com / AlterMedia and TransAudioGroup, with many more to be announced within the week.

More information on the tournament and its participants is available at http://www.recordingindustrygolftournament.com/, or call Karen Dunn at 925-708-0307.
