Impeccable sound quality meets excellent design: Sennheiser’s new DJ headphone range wins Red Dot Design Award

Old Lyme, CT, May 22, 2014 – The Sennheiser headphones HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX have received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for product design. Awarded annually by a jury of experts, the Red Dot is awarded to products whose excellent design sets them apart.

Evaluating a total of 4,815 products submitted by 1,816 international manufacturers, designers and architects, the jury of 40 product design specialists was impressed with the design of the headphones, which supports their impeccable sound quality. Sennheiser has engineered the DJ headphone range from durable, high-quality materials to take even the roughest professional use. “We developed the HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX for DJs who expect their headphones to withstand the rigours of daily studio work and a life on the road without wanting to compromise on their aesthetics,” said Ivan Kuan, Head of Product Management, Sennheiser Consumer Electronics. “Therefore, we are delighted our dedication to the headphones’ design is now being recognized by the judges of the Red Dot Design Award”.

Designed to move crowds:

Designed in conjunction with some of the world’s biggest DJs such as Luciano, Bob Sinclar and Davina, the HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX are manufactured to meet the needs of professional DJs down to the smallest detail. Characterized by their high build quality, the DJ and mixing headphone range provides complete user comfort for hours at the decks, whether in the studio or when moving crowds at gigs. For hassle-free one-ear monitoring, both DJ models feature swivelling ear cups with up to 210° of movement and three different wearing positions. The elliptical shape of the ear cups avoids pinching the ears and is enhanced by interchangeable ear pads made from soft velour and a leatherette material for comfortable listening during long periods of use. The coiled and straight oxygen-free copper cables can be attached to either ear cup via gold-plated connectors.

The headphone range as well as the other products awarded the Red Dot, will be showcased at the annual Design on stage exhibition at Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, from 8 July to 3 August 2014. With 4,000 square metres, the museum hosts the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design. The new line of DJ headphones will also be shown at Movement Festival in Detroit this weekend.

About the red dot design award:

With nearly 5,000 entries from 53 countries, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s biggest design competitions. The Red Dot has also become internationally established as one of the most appreciated seals of quality for outstanding design. The award focuses on three categories: product design, communication design and design concept, which are each judged independently. In the product design category, an international expert jury evaluates the submitted products on the basis of their degree of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional content, product periphery, self-explanatory quality and ecological compatibility in a total of 23 categories.

Joseph Electronics Now Representing ABonAir Wireless Microwave Link Products in North America

NILES, Ill. — May 21, 2014 – Joseph Electronics (JE), the premier one-stop shop for the broadcast industry and provider of copper and fiber terminations and custom fiber solutions through Joseph Fiber Solutions (JFS), today announced that it has become an authorized North American distributor and service center for Israel’s ABonAir. ABonAir designs and markets wireless video link systems for professional camera and production teams worldwide, enabling them to transmit video content directly from cameras to media centers, director-monitors, or outside broadcast (OB) vans over the air using microwave technology. JE will represent ABonAir’s wireless microwave link products to the OB truck, ENG, and TV station markets.

“ABonAir designs solid, license-free, top-of-the-line wireless HD link systems at a great price point, which makes them a welcome addition to our product portfolio and a great fit for our customers,” said Yohay Hahamy, president and CEO of Joseph Electronics. “We demonstrated the system live at NAB this year, where the transmitter was outside in the production truck exhibit area and the receiver was in our booth in the central hall. The signal was clear even though there was no direct line of sight and a concrete wall between us — a result that got the attention of several of our customers.”

The only North American ABonAir distributor that is not a system integrator, JE will work with ABonAir on specific improvements — such as remote antennas via fiber and unique packaging options — that will make the systems even better-suited to remote production.

“It was a natural choice for ABonAir to partner with Joseph Electronics due to its technology leadership, nationwide exposure, and vast experience,” said ABonAir CEO Eran Igler. “Joseph Electronics’ leadership, professionalism, reputation, and top-tier customer base fit perfectly with ABonAir’s high-end, robust line of wireless broadcast transmission systems. This agreement gives ABonAir access to a larger number of broadcasters and production companies in North America.”

ABonAir’s AB Series of professional wireless HD links use a robust orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) radio that assures reliable links under even the most difficult conditions. When combined with OFDM technology, ABonAir’s proprietary air protocol enables the systems to stream HD video at the highest quality with consistent bit rates to meet broadcast standards. ABonAir’s OFDM-based systems allow video transmission up to 8,200 feet while consuming only 10 watts of power.

Adder Technology supplies high performance KVM solution to Warner Bros. De Lane Lea

Adder Technology supplies high performance KVM solution to

Warner Bros. De Lane Lea

Adder brings flexibility and reliability to Soho mixing stages

Boston, May 22, 2014: Adder Technology, the high performance keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) specialist, has successfully completed an installation of its AdderLink Infinity range at Warner Bros. De Lane Lea in London.

The deal was facilitated through Adder Technology’s reseller, IP Performance, who selected the AdderLink Infinity based on the client’s twin requirements for greater flexibility and reliability.  Adder supplied three AdderLink Infinity systems (featuring high performance IP-based KVM) to Warner Bros. De Lane Lea for use in the upgrade of legacy equipment in three suites in its Soho facility.

AdderLink forms the central KVM infrastructure for all three rooms and enables engineers to quickly and easily reconfigure the mixing stages based on the individual requirements of its different customers.

Pierre Ketteridge, Technical Pre-Sales Consultant at IP Performance explains: “With audio suites being hired out on a daily and weekly basis, bespoke configuration is key to meeting the requirements of each new customer. It is therefore important that set-up can be accomplished easily to save both time and money. As the management tools are so user friendly, the AdderLink Infinity enables engineers to complete the configuration quickly and simply.”

Through Adder’s high performance, IP-based KVM matrix, the computers can be placed outside of the suite, in a server room, freeing up space within the critical environment. Customers at the studio typically work with the Avid Pro Tools package and Adder’s technology enables them to pick up their project from any screen in the studio, without having to move workstations, and with no loss of quality.

In addition to versatility, the AdderLink Infinity encourages collaboration and enables the sharing of control between machines while delivering excellent video quality and USB-based interactions, which is of particular benefit in applications such as audio mixing for film and television.

The Pixies Tour the World with HARMAN’s Martin Professional Lighting

BOSTON, Massachusetts — Legendary alternative rock band The Pixies have made quite the comeback after their revival 10 years ago, and are now on a worldwide tour with a full lighting rig from HARMAN’s Martin Professional.

Full service lighting, sound and rigging rental company based in New York, See Factor, worked with Myles Mangino, Lighting Designer for The Pixies, to create a rig featuring 15 MAC Viper Profiles, 12 MAC Auras, four RUSH MH3s and three Jem K1 Hazers.

The Pixies, who recently stopped at the renowned Coachella Music Festival after their reunion tour began nearly 10 years ago, needed a versatile lighting solution designed for different venues, stages and festivals.

“The real challenge was to have a show that could be as closely as possible duplicated in markets across the world,” stated Mangino. “Having a kit that was small enough to fit in a container, and also using fixtures that could be sourced in different markets was paramount.”

The upstage truss has 8-foot tail down bars for the MAC Vipers that went over the back screen. “The second we saw the Viper fixture we were impressed with its capabilities,” said Alban Sardzinski, See Factor. “It’s a compact light with a large zoom and high output which really helps Myles due to the fact that he can position it super close while still be effective. The first time we tried it at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and we only had a few feet behind his screen but it worked perfectly!”

“The Viper is currently my favorite fixture,” said Mangino. “The optics are wonderful and the speed of the zoom is unmatched. For a show like the Pixies, I run everything live, off temp faders. There are no cues or chases running so the responsiveness is critical for me. The Martin fixtures pan, tilt and the wheels seem to respond to manual movements with faders better than anything else I’ve tried.”

At first, Mangino was skeptical of the RUSH MH3s, but after just one show they were part of the rig. “I love the colors! They all match and we more or less use them as the bands key light by reflecting them off the mirrored domes above the stage.”

“The Auras, in my opinion, are the most essential element,” mentioned Sardzinski. “I knew Mangino had used them prior to the Pixies and they would fit in perfectly with the rest of the rig. I love the look of the beam and the colors they create. They are perfect for the backlight effect we were going for.”

“When the tour first launched we weren’t using Martin hazers,” Sardzinksi continued, “but they were so loud and obnoxious that we swapped them out for the K1s and we couldn’t be happier.”

“We’re proud to work with Mangino and with Martin,” said Sardzinski. “We’ve always found Martin to have very durable fixtures and whenever we have them out there we know we’ll have a perfect show, every time!”
