Portability and Performance of New FOR-A XT Series Switchers Gains Attention of Schools, Churches, Production Co’s and Major Broadcasters

Cypress, CA – Since its introduction into the market last year, FOR-A’s HVS-XT video production switcher series has proven a popular fit for a wide range of applications. Current customers of FOR-A XT Series switchers include: schools, houses of worship, production companies and major broadcasting networks.

The HVS-XT100 comes with a separate main unit and control panel, while the HVS-XT110 features a compact, integrated design. Both units include: mixed HD/SD input, frame synchronization, multi-viewer capability, re-sizing engine, 2.5D wipe effects, DVE and keyer with chroma key. Two freely assignable Keyers and DSKs channels also come standard. A built-in Web server allows users to adjust settings from a PC or a tablet.

Some of the new XT users are existing FOR-A customers looking to capitalize on the portability and performance of these new switchers. Arizona-based Sun Valley Community Church began using a FOR-A HVS-300HS switcher three years ago for its transition to HD production. The church has three locations, and uses the HVS-300HS in its original campus in Gilbert, AZ. When the time came to select a switcher for one of their newer campuses, the church had FOR-A’s products in top-of-mind. Sun Valley selected a FOR-A HVS-XT100 and has been successfully using it since last September.

“We were very happy with the performance of our FOR-A HVS-300HS switcher, so it was a simple choice to stay in the FOR-A family and purchase another one of their units for our newer location,” said Greg Gardner, Sun Valley’s Video Technical Director. “We went with the HVS XT-100 because of its new features, particularly the ability to assign one of the keys to any of the aux channels and reposition and resize the key as desired. I’ve also found its Web browser capabilities to be extremely useful in our productions.”

FOR-A’s HVS-XT series is also being used for higher learning. A computer science institute at the University of California, Berkeley has been relying on the HVS-XT100 since late last summer for production of workshops and lectures, which are streamed and archived online.

“I appreciate the ease of use that the HVS-XT100 affords,” said Omied Far, UC Berkeley’s switcher operator. “I’ve quickly learned the ins and outs of the switcher, and it helps me to provide smooth, live video to viewers around the world.”

Broadcast equipment rental and production service company Clark Media has been utilizing XT series switchers to provide its corporate, video production company, and broadcast network customers with custom designed solutions. The Bethlehem, PA-based company recently purchased three HVS-XT100 switchers and one HVS-XT110 unit. Dedicated to providing the top technology to its customers, Clark Media plans to rent the FOR-A switchers out in flypacks.

California-based RBL Engineering is one of many video production companies that count on the FOR-A HVS-XT switcher. Part of RBL Engineering’s business is corporate AV event production. The company has been relying on the HVS-XT110 for its multi-camera productions since last fall, and they recently purchased another HVS-XT110 switcher for upcoming projects.

“Portability was a key consideration for us in choosing this switcher,” said company president Bob Bolling. “The size of the HVS-XT110 was a major plus, as we need to be able to easily transport the unit. The HVS-XT110 is the only switcher in its price range that enables dissolve for screen switch, and we appreciate being able to have one switcher control eight outputs with different sources. Its 1080p upgradeable option was also a big perk, as we were looking for a future-proof switcher.”

RBL Engineering recently used the HVS-XT110 for camera switching at a keynote to an audience of 5,000 in San Jose, CA. The RBL Engineering team also took the HVS-XT110 on a plane to Hong Kong to provide I-MAG support and live streaming.

FOR-A’s Latin American customers continue to rely on its technology with use of XT Series switchers, particularly to benefit their live production environments. Brazilian video services provider Casablanca Online, Argentina’s TyC Sports, and Mexico-based mass multimedia company Televisa are all users of HVS-XT switchers.

Bounty Music Completes Audio Revamp at St. Theresa Church In Hawaii with HARMAN Brands

MAUI, Hawaii – Owner of 35-year-old musical instrument store and pro audio installation company Bounty Music on the island of Maui, Paul Weinstein and his wife Linda recently revamped the local St. Theresa Church with HARMAN’s Soundcraft digital console, JBL loudspeakers, Crown amplification and dbx signal processing. This Catholic Church, which seats 550, required an immediate upgrade of its sound system, streamlining all the gear into an integrated network, controlled by a one-switch system.

Featured are the Soundcraft Si Expression 2 digital console with 24 recallable mic preamps, Crown DCi 2|1250 amplifier, a JBL CBT70JE-1-WH column loudspeaker per side and a dbx DriveRack PA2 for room EQ, anti-feedback and compression.

“I have always relied on Crown amplifiers for their sound quality and their reliability, especially powering JBL loudspeakers.” said Weinstein. “The dbx Driverack PA2 is a great all in one solution, for room EQ and anti-feedback.”

Due to the variety of groups performing at the Church, music can vary between multiple genres within a given day. The recallable features of the Si Expression 2 made the console the best solution for the Church.

“Compared to what else was out there, Soundcraft offers the ability to recall everything, including even mic pres,” according to Weinstein. “The price and performance made it the ideal choice for this category, beating everything else within its price range. With the new modification, we have no problem catering to the different groups coming in.”

The console is housed in a cabinet hidden from the general audience, which makes the ViSi Remote App 2.0 perfect for controlling the audio from a distance. Given the wide and shallow structure of the seating arrangements, the CBT70JE-1-WH loudspeakers were chosen to provide excellent coverage in every seat, without consuming much real estate. Bounty Music accomplished a tremendous feat by integrating an amazing audio system that is both capable and low profile in design.

“The Si Expression sounds great, and it does what you want it to do, using a much appreciated intuitive layout,” said Weinstein. “The faders are not cluttered by layers, which is great for non-professionals and volunteers. Everything we need including EQ and compression is onboard, and no external gear except for the dbx DriveRack is used.”

HARMAN’s JBL VTX Line Array Loudspeakers Are the Unsung Heroes in “Sing My Song”

BEIJING, China – Music reality show “Sing My Song” is aired by CCTV3 and recently became a ratings winner in China. With a live audience of 300 people, the popularity of the show is largely attributed to its emphasis on original songs created by independent artists. To complement the ambitious direction of the show, HARMAN’s JBL VTX V25 line array loudspeakers were installed at the show’s live studio to enable the singers to showcase their original pieces of music.

Amidst many musical talent shows that focus on the contestants’ ability to sing cover songs, “Sing My Song” appeals to the artists’ creativity, rekindling the life and spirit of original compositions. The powerful, yet pure-sounding JBL VTX Series loudspeakers are the perfect choice for this program, as they deliver even coverage throughout the studio.

The main PA system features two groups of 10 JBL VTX V25 fullsize line array loudspeakers each that are suspended and cover three sides of the stage. Beneath the stage are three groups of four JBL VTX S28 subwoofers each. Thanks to the JBL VTX LAC (Line Array Calculator) Software, each projected area of the loudspeakers is taken into consideration to calculate the energy output of each loudspeaker.

“The JBL VTX loudspeakers perform and sound amazing,” said Jin Shaogang, music and pitch instructor for the show. “The mids and highs of the V25 loudspeakers sound smooth and transparent, while the JBL S28 subwoofers pack a lot of power and add plenty of depth to the sound.” The performance of the VTX loudspeakers also sound impressive on a variety of instruments, and their world-class sound quality is able to bring entire audiences to their feet.

Thirty-two Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers power the loudspeakers, and the entire system is connected using JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software, for the convenience of uploading the configurations for all the equipment during installation and sound debugging during live shows.

Four instructors Liu Huan, Yang Kun, Zhou Huajian, Cai Jianya were truly impressed by the “good songs and good sounds,” in reference to the excellent live audio quality that the JBL VTX line array loudspeakers bring to any stage.

HARMAN’s AKG Enters Red Bull Air Race World Championships 2014 with Wireless Microphone Systems

ROVINJ, Croatia – While Hannes Arch, co-architect of HARMAN’s AKG AV100 aviation headphones, was the winner of the Red Bull Air Race in Rovinj, Croatia, the moderator’s bench was left wanting for nothing with their own set of HARMAN’s AKG wireless microphones, headsets and in-ear monitoring systems. The AKG systems enabled flawless communication on and off the racecourse during the commencement and winner ceremonies.

The system at the Red Bull Air Race featured the AKG DAM+ Series gooseneck microphones, equipped with CK49 capsules for the desks, capturing the sound of live commentators and the winners of the contest. The capsule is designed to capture the best sound in any indoor and outdoor environment, honing in on voices at greater distances, and reducing pop noise at short distances. Combined with the AKG WMS4500, DHT700 and DMS700 wireless microphone systems, the announcers were well-equipped for the show.

“Red Bull wanted to bring pristine audio performance and crystal-clear communication to this competition, which is why these AKG systems were perfect solutions for the Red Bull Air Race,” said Walter Rührig, Artist & Key Customer Relations, AKG. “In an outdoor environment like this, it is essential that we provided gear like the CK49 with windscreens, to reduce wind and pop noise during interviews and live announcements. The equipment performed perfectly without hiccups, which is a testament to AKG’s reliability.”

VMP Expands Building Information Modeling (BIM) Platform with New Rack Enclosure Offerings

STEVENSVILLE, Md., May 29, 2014 — Video Mount Products (videomount.com), a leading provider of mounting solutions for the commercial, residential, security, and pro audio/video markets, is proud to announce that it has expanded its Building Information Modeling (BIM) content to now include the new EREN free standing and ERWEN wall mounted rack enclosure series. VMP has teamed with Autodesk for the past 18 months to provide BIM content for many of its most popular products on the AutoDesk Seek repository. VMP’s content is also available for download through InfoComm iQ as well as from the videomount.com website.

“The demand for rack-mounted solutions in commercial, residential, pro A/V, and security applications continues to expand, even surge in some instances,” explained Keith Fulmer, president of Video Mount Products. “The growing acceptance of Building Information Modeling in the industry coupled with our desire to help our customers and the success of our new rack enclosure solutions made it a no-brainer to incorporate the EREN and ERWEN categories into our BIM platform. If we can help save integrators time and effort per project, we will do so because it means more available time for more projects, thus contributing to a healthier bottom line for their businesses. That’s what it’s all about.”

BIM allows all the necessary elements to be integrated into a project during its initial planning stages and flow through to proposed future development, before a hammer or nail are ever used. Traditionally, building design has been largely reliant upon 2D drawings (i.e. plans, elevations, etc.) whereas Building Information Modeling extends this beyond 3D to a virtual “5D” platform by enhancing the three primary spatial dimensions (width, height, and depth) with time as the fourth dimension and cost as the fifth, making the use of BIM a crucial factor for design, implementation, and sustainability with equal importance placed upon manpower and profitability.

“By utilizing VMP’s BIM models, all the knowledge necessary to make for a successful end-result via the sharing of electronic data between all parties is at the users’ fingertips,” added Fulmer. “This results in more efficient and cost-effective planning and preemptive problem solving in real-time ‘5D’.”

Now, more than 30 BIM models are currently available for VMP products, including models for flat panel mounts, equipment racks, projector mounts, and non-penetrating roof mounts.

The latest BIM additions include the cost-effective, portable, and fully welded EREN family of 19-inch equipment rack enclosures has been designed for installations where protected components are a necessity. The EREN Series is feature rich and comes complete with integrated cooling fans and removable side panels (with optional locks) allows for the organization of multiple electronic components, while at the same time protecting them from thermal issues, as well as damage or theft.

Also included, the ERWEN Series are workhorses of a wall mounted rack enclosures. Where space is at a premium, getting equipment off the floor and on the wall is a must when floor standing equipment racks just won’t do. VMP designed the new ERWEN Series wall mounted racks for both form and functionality, especially with the security and AV installer in mind. With adjustable front and rear rails, removable hinged wall plate and a reversible glass front door, the ERWEN-12E and ERWEN-15E are the answer to the most demanding rack mount requirements.

For more information or to access VMP’s BIM models, visit AutoDesk Seek, InfoComm iQ, the Video Mount Products website, www.videomount.com, or call 877-281-2169.

“We’ve been moving more and more into commercial integration, and as we work with clients on projects in commercial spaces a common request has been for in-wall mount touch screens,” says Drew Taylor, director of sales and applications for HRS Control.

HRS-eTouch can be used with a UDC Pro ECS-Raptor or other HRS Control servers in an environment with multiple touch screens controllers. It also features a built-in control server in a single controller application that requires no additional hardware or software investment so it can run as a stand-a-lone touch screen with built in controller. “Even though Raptor has iPad and Windows RT apps as well browser support, people have been asking for a dedicated device to perform this sole function,” Taylor explains. “So we’re excited to introduce this option.”

HRS-eTouch works with a UDC Pro ECS-Raptor as an efficient, custom control interface to the AV and IT equipment such as video processors, video routers, video conferencing, audio processors, lighting dimmers, video and audio playback and record, displays and more.

Fast and easy deployment is assured with HRS Designer software; no complex coding or programming is required. The wall-mount and desktop units are available in 4 inch and 7 inch models with supported power over Ethernet injector options.

The wall mount kit is shipping now; desktop kits will be available soon.
