AptoVision announces Cat-X version of BlueRiver™ NT, adds new features to game changing technology for uncompressed AV signal distribution

AptoVision, a Montreal-based technology company, is launching the Cat-X version of its new BlueRiver™ NT chipset at InfoComm 2014, (June 18-20, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV). The chipset is the world’s first and only mainstream chipset to enable the transmission and switching of real-time, uncompressed Ultra-HD AV signals with zero-frame latency over off-the-shelf (OTS) fiber and copper 10GbE switches. Replacing custom AV Matrix switches with standard Ethernet switches cuts the cost of AV matrix switching equipment by 60%, while also eliminating the associated R&D cost, procurement complexities and inventory risk.

“AptoVision’s BlueRiver NT is a truly revolutionary platform which addresses multiple application areas previously requiring custom system architectures for each application,” said Kamran Ahmed, CEO and co-founder of AptoVision; “By successfully leveraging available 10GbE technology for uncompressed video distribution & processing, AptoVision has eliminated the reliance on expensive circuit switches and backplanes which result in un-scalable, highly complex and costly systems.”

Support for Cat-X allows for up to 100m distance range between the switch and the attached source and/or display devices. The resulting support for lower-cost 10G copper switches further reduces the cost of the installation compared to custom AV matrix switching equipment.

AptoVision is also introducing unique new functionality to the BlueRiver NT platform, enabling a variety of new application areas:

Seamless switching: Ability to switch from one video source to another without any glitch on the display
Multi-view applications: Ability to show a grid composed of multiple video sources on a single display
Video-wall applications: Ability to scale a single video source across a wall of multiple displays

AptoVision will demonstrate its BlueRiver NT technology at its booth (#C10146) during the InfoComm tradeshow. Requests for a meeting or a guided demo can be sent to sales@aptovision.com.

Litepanels Introduces ASTRA 1×1 Bi-Color Fixture

Company Raises the Bar with Next Generation LED Panel Series

(CHATSWORTH, Calif.) – Litepanels®, a Vitec Group brand and premier provider of LED lighting for the broadcast and production industries, has announced the release of its new ASTRA 1×1 Bi-Color panel. Building on the legacy of the company’s original 1×1 fixture, which revolutionized the lighting industry, the ASTRA 1×1 sets a new standard for the form and function of professional LED panels. Following the Litepanels tradition of a one square foot form factor, the ASTRA 1×1 Bi-Color offers a light output that is up to four times brighter than the company’s traditional 1×1 Bi-Color fixture, high CRI (Color Rendering Index), and user selectable active or passive cooling modes.

The innovative daylight to tungsten tunable color model is the first in the company’s new ASTRA line of panels, with additional fixtures in the series set to debut later this year. While the original Litepanels’ 1×1 series was often imitated by competitors, its quality and performance has never been duplicated. In keeping with that tradition of excellence, the development of the next generation ASTRA product line was years in the making and every design element was meticulously crafted.

“The original Litepanels 1×1 has been used on thousands of sets and shoots worldwide since hitting the marketplace,” noted Chris Marchitelli, Vice President of Marketing for Litepanels. “We’ve always known that our next generation panel would need to push the performance envelope, so we approached our new ASTRA line very thoughtfully. We took our time, drew from our wealth of experience building professional LED fixtures, and accessed the wonderful feedback we’ve gotten from our loyal customers. The time, effort, research and development we put into the ASTRA series has produced an LED panel that is truly astounding, yet highly affordable. When you put your hands on this light, you’ll see that we exceeded our own expectations.”

The ASTRA 1×1 Bi-Color panels are designed with select premium quality surface mount LEDs that are paired with custom designed TIR (total internal reflection) optics. The fixtures offer a tunable Bi-Color output, allowing users to adjust color from daylight to tungsten as needed. The high CRI LEDs have also been formulated to consistently deliver accurate color temperatures and visually pleasing color reproduction. Tightly binned LEDs and fine-tuned optics provide the new ASTRA 1×1 with higher intensity, a longer throw, and a wider effective beam spread than the company’s original 1×1 fixture. This allows the panel to compete with strong exterior light sources or illuminate a large area effectively with a single fixture.

Proper thermal management is the key to maintaining the long life and color accuracy of LED fixtures. To meet these demands, Litepanels’ ASTRA 1×1 offers both passive and active cooling modes. The passive cooling mode provides a completely silent operation, while the active cooling mode enables an ultra-quiet fan module and double light output. An internal microprocessor monitors the temperature, minimizes fan speed, delivers smooth dimming from 100 percent to zero with no noticeable color shift, and ensures a completely flicker-free performance at any frame rate or shutter angle. With the addition of an optional communications module, the brightness, color temperature and cooling mode of the fixtures are all controllable via DMX512 protocol.

Redefining the look of LED panels, the ASTRA series employs a modern, modular design. The modular-based ASTRA system currently includes a field replaceable fan module and the optional RJ45 DMX module with an LCD menu and function display. Additional wired and wireless communication modules are currently in development and will continue to be introduced to future proof the fixtures as new technologies become available. The unit’s manual controls are ergonomically designed for ease of use in the field, ensuring ready identification of dimming controls, color controls, and power status.

The new panels are produced with aluminum I-beam core construction to provide maximum durability and superior thermal management, and also feature strong, integrated aluminum accessory mounting points and lens/filter rails. The high impact, durable resin end caps feature downward angled exhaust vents carefully designed to direct air flow away from the fixture, minimizing obstructions and helping to prevent foreign materials from entering the panel.

“The ASTRA line is a very exciting addition to the Litepanels family of products,” commented Marchitelli. “We are always striving to set new standards and deliver the best in LED technology to our customers. We’ve done that with the ASTRA 1×1, which is likely the most versatile LED panel ever built. It’s both sturdy and lightweight, flexible and strong, and provides a higher output and better color than has ever been seen before. We’re especially pleased to be introducing this product at the Cine Gear Expo, as Los Angeles is where Litepanels got its start.”

The ASTRA 1×1′s extensive list of features continues in the curved yoke design with a wide tilt range, dual integrated cable guides, and a combination yoke mounted power supply with a 3-pin XLR locking power connector and optional Gold Mount(r) or V-Mount battery plates. The yoke also features a removable TVMP connector and additional 1/4-20 mounting points.

The ASTRA 1×1 Bi-Color panel will be available worldwide in the summer of 2014. For more information, visit Litepanels at www.litepanels.com or follow us on Facebook.

Nomad Sound Adds New NEXO STM, Yamaha CLs to Arsenal

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Nomad Sound of Austin, Texas recently purchased a new NEXO STM line array and Yamaha CL1, 3, 5 digital audio consoles to complement their rental arsenal. Since 2005, Nomad Sound has been supplying regional music festivals and several touring clients with world-class equipment along with very experienced technicians. The sound company recently had the opportunity to support a Willie Nelson show followed by Psychfest, both in Austin, multiple festivals, and South by Southwest, putting the STM to successful, but rigorous tests.

Regarding the purchase of the STM, Damon Lange, principal owner of Nomad said “we had realized a 4-way system was the right move to make, having grown our NEXO GEO S12 rig up to 48 boxes, we were looking at our options. When I heard there was an STM demo scheduled at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, I went down with Joel Hume, one of our lead engineers, and we spent two days listening and examining the rig. Once I heard the system and the clarity at 350+ feet as well as examined the rigging and listened to a small ground stacked rig, it was simply a matter of figuring out what configuration to start with.” Lange decided on a 48-box rig with 18 M46′s, 18 B112′s, and 12 S118′s, powered by four NUAR amp racks.

Nomad also added three Yamaha CL digital consoles to its inventory as well. “We started with a CL3 and a single Rio 32 input/output box and then added a CL5 and CL1. We have four Rio’s at this point, and the consoles are cased using Rock Hard captive leveling rigs. They’ve made a really slick console case that a single person can “table” the desk with one hand! We’ve had no issues with rider acceptability of the CL consoles, and anyone familiar with M7CL or PM5D can pretty much jump right in on the CL. The Premium Rack plug-ins are really amazing, and while we all have our favorites, mine is the Dynamic EQ, which feels pretty familiar if you’ve ever used the BSS901 to solve problems.”

For Willie Nelson’s show and Psychfest, the rig consisted of a 9 pair-per-side STM boxes over 12 STM subs on the main stage of both shows and 6 per-side S1210 rigs on the additional B and C Stages for the festival. These shows were followed up with two back-to-back gigs where the STM was ground-stacked three high over four subs for a festival at the historic Pearl Brewery in San Antonio as part of the Echale Concert Series, where Nomad also supplied a Yamaha CL5 at FOH and CL1 for monitors. The next day, Nomad used the STM as part of a three-stage festival in Austin for Fiesta Gardens with three NEXO rigs: STM ground stack on main stage and GEO S12 rigs on B and C stages. Again, the sound company brought in Yamaha CL consoles for FOH and monitors on B and C stages. For South By Southwest, Nomad added a NEXO S118 sub package.

“Nothing but positive feedback all around, Lange says. Everyone was really pleased as to how easy it was to get their mix right where they wanted it. One engineer mentioned how refreshing it was not to have to worry about the system at all. This was our game plan from the get-go; to provide a system where guest engineers can show up, mix, and leave happy without ever having to worry about system tuning/ tweaks. The festival scenarios with flown and ground-stacked systems, plus GEO S12 rigs complimenting as fills and side-stage rigs, really showcase how versatile and flexible the new NEXO STM rig is.”

HRS Control Launches Complete Line of ECS Embedded Control Servers At InfoComm14

HRS Control has introduced a complete line of ECS Embedded Control Servers encompassing both touch screen and central control servers. They will be unveiled to InfoComm14 attendees in the HRS Control booth # C4834 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, June 18-20. This family of products expands the capabilities of today’s available control system technology to meet the needs of a wide array of applications for permanent AV installs large and small.

The new stand-alone Mantis and Enterprise servers join HRS Control’s UDC Pro ECS-Raptor, which was introduced last year. Raptor offers embedded Linux for 24/7 operation and reliability; it has a small footprint and low power consumption and is designed for one to three rooms or areas. Raptor supports all protocols: UDP, TCP, Telnet, HTTP, RS232/422, IR, Art-Net/DMX, MIDI, relays, contact closure and more. The SDK incorporates JavaScript and JSON objects to give power to developers.

Raptor is fast and easy to configure. Users can connect to the control system with the HRS Control Pro app on iOS, Windows 8 and RT, and Android. It also works with HRS Control’s new eTouch series of wall-mount and desktop embedded touch screens.

Users who need more power and reach than Raptor can now step up to Mantis, which is designed for five to ten rooms or areas. It’s built on a Linux embedded OS and runs multiple instances of the HRS server.

“Mantis enables users to independently manage six different control systems from one server,” notes Drew Taylor, director of sales and applications at HRS Control. “Mantis features the power of six Raptors on one computer, so it’s ideal for customers who need control in multiple rooms and want access and management from a central server.”

Users with enterprise or university-style applications can now check out the aptly-named Enterprise server for control of 10 to 100 rooms or areas. It boasts enterprise class hardware full of redundancy running HRS Embedded.

“Enterprise features a modular licensing model,” Taylor explains. “It comes with 10 server licenses, but customers can add up to 90 more for managing 100 different control systems from one server. This eliminates the need for a small black box or control processor in every classroom or conference room. Instead, users get up to 100 virtual controllers, which are independently managed and configured from a central point. That equates to cost savings since customers don’t need to purchase and install equipment in every room, and they have a single point of control, management and advanced monitoring.”

Rounding out the product family are two new HRS-eTouch touch screen controllers available in wall-mount and desktop configurations in 4 inch screen and 7 inch screen models. They can be used with Raptor, Mantis and Enterprise in a multi-controller interface environment. They also feature a built-in control server for a stand-a-lone single-controller application requiring no additional hardware or software investment.

The HRS-eTouch wall-mount kit is shipping now; desktop kits will be available soon.

Raptor is shipping now. Orders for Mantis and Enterprise will be taken at InfoComm14.

Opticomm-EMCORE Announces the New Genesis XD, a Multimedia Matrix for 4K UHD and Beyond

Alhambra, CA –June 1, 2014 – Opticomm-EMCORE, a leading provider of end-to-end multimedia distribution equipment for 4K UHD and beyond, is launching their new Genesis XD (“GXD”) at InfoComm 2014, an all-in-one multimedia matrix solution that converts, scales, switches and distributes video, audio and data for small-to-large connectivity applications.  A four-panel video wall will be created using Genesis XD and Genesis-compatible multipoint products, including their new GBOX Series of compact, throw-down boxes, Optiva system cards, and the new Eclipse HD system.

Genesis XD accepts and converts both analog and digital signals, including HDMI 1.4b with HDCP (now known as HEAC – HDMI, Ethernet, Audio, Control), Display Port, DVI, VGA, Component and 3G HD-SDI.  GXD’s massive 40 Gbps backplane accommodates uncompressed 4K UHD resolutions now and 8K resolutions later, allowing it to serve as a staple for Installers that want a flexible and reliable connectivity platform.  Remote locations can be connected via singlemode and multimode Fiber up to 10 kilometers (6 miles), as well as CATx/HDBaseT or IP/Ethernet up to 100 meters (300 feet).

A notable feature of Genesis XD is the ability to break-away and switch audio separately for professional audio editing and processing requirements.  GXD also embeds digital S/PDIF or stereo analog audio inputs into HDMI and 3G HD-SDI signals, as well as, de-embeds audio from those same digital signals.  Supported data formats include 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, RS-232, CEC, USB 2.0 (for keyboard, mouse, storage devices etc.), and IR, which provides IR control of the source equipment from the display end of the link.

Genesis XD is a non-blocking, full cross-point matrix switch that allows any source to seamlessly connect to one or all displays for continuous, trouble-free operation in critical applications.  GXD is a modular system, expandable and scalable from 8×8 to 256×256.  Initially, GXD will be launched in a 32×32, 9RU frame, allowing for 16 cards input and 16 cards output, with two channels per card.  It incorporates “intelli-scale” technology to instantly scale a video source to the native resolution of connected displays in less than one second.

The multi-format Genesis XD platform can be utilized in numerous connectivity applications, including but not limited to:

  •  Corporate: One building can distribute multimedia between floors via copper cabling then send the same signals to a second building via fiber cabling, all output from the same switch. For AV/IT integration applications, GXD can bridge both audio/video and data networks over the same IP/Ethernet infrastructure.
  • Education: GXD can utilize existing copper and IP infrastructure for video conferencing in classrooms, then convert these and other signals for long-distance transport over fiber, for distribution of seminars, surveillance video and broadcast journalism programs throughout a campus or regional district.

Point Source Audio’s SERIES8 Miniature Mics Now Available World-Wide

Petaluma, Calif. — Point Source Audio (PSA), an innovator of the original and one-of-a-kind “Unbreakable Boom” microphone, has expanded the availability of its SERIES8 miniature microphones globally. As attendees to InfoComm 2014 (booth #C10913) will learn, the SERIES8 is available in three different styles: headset, earworn and lavalier. Created for use in broadcast, theater and live production, the SERIES8 miniature microphones have recently been adopted by distinguished venues such as the New York Philharmonic, Universal Studios, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Kravis Center, and Shiki Theater Company Tokyo, to name a few.

SERIES8 mics have set a new standard for performance and durability in a micro size capsule. While the mic elements measure a mere 2-4 mm in diameter, the mics’ robust features are unlike any others on the market today. The omnidirectional microphones feature 148dB max SPL with an “Unbreakable Boom” bendable to 360°. In addition, they are IP57 waterproof rated against water, sweat and makeup, and feature interchangeable X-connectors for wireless compatibility on the spot.

“SERIES8 excels by offering integrators a microphone solution that combines an unmatched decibel rating in a tiny form factor,” said James Lamb, President for Point Source Audio. “Our design and engineering address concerns over durability and wireless compatibility to meet the needs of the most discriminating audio professionals from the board room to Broadway.”

The SERIES8 cardioid microphones are an ideal solution for performers who require isolation from surrounding performers. The cardioid mics perform best when placed just at the corner of the mouth, which also allows them to maintain an unobtrusive appearance when worn.

With a MSRP starting at $389, PSA’s SERIES8 miniature microphones are now available for purchase at a number of resellers and distributors worldwide. More information about PSA’s various audio solutions can be found by visiting www.point-sourceaudio.com.
