For A/V Installation and Staging Company, Sennheiser LSP 500 PRO PA System is the Perfect Solution for Outdoor and Remote Applications

Webb Audio Visual Embraces Audio Intelligibility and Ease of Use of Sennheiser LSP 500 Wireless PA System, Citing Breakthrough Performance and Capabilities

Las Vegas, June 19, 2014 – One year after its launch at InfoComm, Sennheiser’s [InfoComm booth C10908] LSP 500 PRO PA system continues to make waves as a breakthrough product within the audio installation and corporate A/V markets, providing unparalleled performance in a uniquely compact and flexible design. The new wireless PA system, which was awarded an IF product design award in the ‘Audio/Video’ category last March, has proven to be an invaluable solution within Salt Lake City-based Webb Audio Visual’s aresenal of audio tools.

As an international installation and staging company with clients like Shaklee, Nu Skin International and Disney, Webb Audio’s business is primarily centered on corporate A/V installations and large-scale event productions. Webb Audio’s rental business routinely supports meetings, general sessions and conventions for mid to large size enterprises in just about every vertical market. Since acquiring a demo unit of the LSP 500 system after visiting the Sennheiser booth at InfoComm last year, the Company has put the product into heavy rotation while quietly retiring a competing brand’s wireless speaker from its rental inventory.

“The LSP 500 is far superior to competitive products in both ease of use and intelligibility,” comments Robbie Dalley, Retail & Rental Sales Manager, Webb Audio Visual. Since deploying the LSP 500 on a wide range of projects, Dalley says the response has been overwhelmingly positive. “The audio quality has been beyond what anybody could have expected. Not just the speech intelligibility, but for music as well. The sound quality is clear across the entire spectrum.”

For Webb Audio Visual, the ‘sweet spot’ for the LSP 500 integrations has been in remote locations and at outdoor events that often lack sufficient power to drive a small audio system and require wireless connectivity. According to Dalley, the extremely long battery life of the LSP 500, along with its super-fast set up and tear down capabilities, make it the ultimate portable speaker system.

One of the more recent applications that Webb Audio Visual used the LSP 500 for was for a press conference on the lawn of the Utah State Capitol buiding between the Downtown Alliance and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. In this scenario and many others like it, Dalley says the set up and tear down time required for his team has been significantly reduced, and the wireless capability has been ‘plug and play.’

Dalley finds the Bluetooth capability of the LSP 500 especially convenient and his clients often rely on this to stream music before and after speech communications. “It is simple to operate for our clients, and the fact that can play music directly from an iPad or other wireless device in addition to all the other capabilities is a huge benefit,” adds Dalley. The music player also has a convenient recording function, which allows audio input to be recorded directly on a USB device.

“For us, the LSP 500 has been a breakthrough,” concludes Dalley. “Our clients are sophisticated and have a certain expectation of how things should sound and look. We have a reptuation as a place where clients can come for quality, and the LSP 500 really reinforces the quality of our own brand in the marketplace.”

Each Sennheiser LSP 500 PRO can take up to three receivers for wireless microphones, and each also has a combined socket for a 6.3 mm jack plug and an XLR-3 connector for using a wired microphone. The wireless Sennheiser loudspeaker has room for two rechargeable batteries but uses only one of them to supply power at any time. That ensures reliable operation and an operating period for the LSP 500 PRO of up to seven hours.

The Music Producers Guild Criticizes YouTube

London, UK: The Music Producers Guild is lending its support to Independent record labels as they battle YouTube for a better deal for continued access to YouTube’s online video platform.

In a statement issued today, the MPG board says:

“With regards to the recent dispute between YouTube and independent labels and the unfavourable terms which YouTube seeks, without negotiation, to impose upon independent record labels, the Music Producers Guild is deeply concerned about Google’s apparent abuse of its monopoly and associated market power and the adverse effect this will have on the wider industry and funds available for innovative and creative content production in the future.

“Independent record producers everywhere, in common with recording artists, rely upon the income from sales and streaming of music files, the production of which they have been responsible, often with little or no credit (itself ironic in this digital age). Attempts by international media conglomerates to throttle negotiation and impose unfavourable and unjust terms upon independent record companies, whom they perceive to be “small fry” and thus “fair game”, should be opposed at every opportunity.”

About Music Producers Guild (UK):

The Music Producers Guild (UK) is an independent and democratic organisation that encourages the highest standards of music production, and actively engages with other music industry organisations to campaign and lobby on matters of important mutual interest.

The MPG represents and promotes the interests of all those involved in the production of recorded music, including producers, engineers, mixers, re-mixers, programmers and mastering engineers.

Symetrix Radius 12×8 Dante™ Network DSPs Help Revitalize St. Peter Catholic Church

OMAHA, NEBRASKA – JUNE 2014: The Diocese of Omaha erected St. Peter Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska in 1926, and the church enjoyed many decades at the heart of Omaha’s Catholic community. However, times changed, demographics shifted, and the church didn’t have the funds to keep up with needed maintenance. It fell into disrepair. However, a recent resurgence in attendance inspired by the leadership of Fr. Damien Cook motivated the diocese to fund a major external and internal renovation at St. Peter Catholic Church. Now complete, the renovation, designed and coordinated by Conrad Schmitt Studios of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has won awards and features a new sound reinforcement system anchored by a Symetrix Radius 12×8 Dante network audio DSP system with Symetrix ARC wall panel remote.

“It was a complete overhaul, from the roof to the floors, from the walls to the ceiling, everything is renovated and revitalized,” said Tim Burkhart, senior systems designer with Omaha-based Midwest Sound & Lighting, the firm that installed St. Peter’s new sound reinforcement system. “It’s really stunning. In the process, they knew they would radically alter the room’s acoustics. They wanted to ensure that the new sound system would give them musical impact and intelligibility.”

Milwaukee-based DSH Audio Visions designed the sound system and partnered with Scott Riedel Associates of Milwaukee for acoustic design. David Hosbach, DSH president and principal design consultant concurred with Burkhart, and added, “Father Cook and Music Director Zachary Turner understand that while the music portion of Mass is really important, if worshipers can’t hear the Word clearly the rest of it – the majestic music, the ornate worship space – really doesn’t matter. I take my hat off to them and the St. Peter congregation for allowing the sound design, the room acoustics and the architectural beauty to work together in harmony, so to speak.”

Two Symetrix Radius 12×8 DSPs form the heart of the system. One unit is located at the front of the room, the second unit is located at the back of the room, and they connect via the Dante network. That way, each unit is near to a collection of inputs and appropriate outputs, and because the system integrates completely via Dante, any of those inputs can be sent to any of those outputs. Redundant Dante connections provide a failsafe in case one of the networks goes down – the other network will pick up seamlessly. The Radius units provide sophisticated processing for Crown amplifiers and a Tannoy QFlex 64 steerable line array.

The Radius units are located in a wall rack at the back of the loft and at the main equipment rack in the sacristy at the front of the room. Two remote sets provide user control, with one mounted in the main rack, and the other in the loft in a custom portable box at the organ console. All told, two Symetrix ARC-K1e, five Symetrix ARC-EX4e, and three Symetrix ARC-SW4e wall panel remote control units provide comprehensive, yet intuitive, control of the system. They primarily select active inputs and allow volume adjustment and configuration preset changes. “We use a lot of Symetrix equipment, and we love the hardware, the software, and its bullet-proof reliability,” said Burkhart. “The sound quality is always top-notch, and the Symetrix open-architecture processing is capable of anything we ask of it. Considering how frequently we use Symetrix products, the failure rate is remarkably low. And if something does go wrong, Symetrix makes it right immediately.”

Hosbach commented, “I like the Symetrix SymNet DSPs for the same reasons as Tim. And I’ll add that they are really easy to program, the site files are fast and convenient to move around in and modify on the fly during setup, and the tuning filters are extremely accurate.”

Burkhart concluded, “St. Peter Catholic Church is very happy with the new sound reinforcement system. They are delighted with its sound quality and with its ease of operation.”
