Latest Version of Digital Nirvana’s Powerful Broadcast Monitoring System Now Available

SmartSearch, SmartAlerts, Variable Speed Playback, and Intuitive GUI Set it Apart from Other Monitoring Systems

Fremont, CA – Digital Nirvana announces shipment of Monitor IQ 4.0, the latest version of its broadcast monitoring software. Monitor IQ is an in-house logging and compliance monitoring solution for traditional broadcasting media. Version 4.0 made its debut at the NAB convention this past April in Las Vegas. It is available for download and will ship on new units as of July 15, 2014.

New features within Version 4.0 include: SmartSearch, SmartAlerts, transport stream recording, variable speed speed playback, enhanced editing, and an improved, easy-to-use user interface.

“With these new features, we’ve solidified Monitor IQ’s position as the smartest monitoring solution in the industry with the most rapid return on investment,” said Arco Groenenberg, director of sales and marketing for Broadcast Products, Digital Nirvana. “Based on our close customer relationships, we’ll keep pushing the envelope and bring more broadcast-centric functionality to Monitor IQ.”

The new SmartSearch feature is a highlight of Version 4.0 and sets Monitor IQ apart from other broadcast monitoring systems. With SmartSearch users can search by date, time, and channel as well as by key words in the close caption, alert reports, as-run and traffic logs. Expression searches enable simultaneous keyword searches in the As Run log and closed captioning sections. Monitor IQ’s Boolean search capability makes it easier to define the search by adding AND, OR, + within search terms. This allows the user to search for captions that contain two words, i.e. Clinton AND Obama. The results are contained within a summary list with a hyperlink to the video content.

SmartAlerts, also new to Version 4.0, can be customized based upon the channel, time of day, duration, and choice of error such as a missing closed caption, loss of video or audio, loudness, etc. Users can set up custom profiles with specific preferences that, depending upon the application, are searchable by time, date and alarm profile.

The new variable speed playback option allows for playback at speeds such as 2x, 4x, 1/2x, and -2x, for example. It enables faster operations during legal reviews, ad verification, content review and repurposing applications.

Enhanced editing provides the user the ability to produce frame-accurate cut clip edits. Users can produce cut-clips on live or previous recordings, which allows for quick turn around when repurposing and editing content.

Monitor IQ 4.0 Broadcast Monitoring System

Monitor IQ combines signal-monitoring, loudness monitoring, aircheck-logging, ad verification, competitive analysis and content repurposing and runs on Digital Nirvana’s Open Media Appliance – a highly scalable, industrial-grade server. The Open Media Appliance accepts multiple inputs including SD/HD SDI, ASI, ASI-IP, ATSC, QAM, 50 Hz, 60 Hz and DVB-TC/S2. It exports content in a wide range of file formats for content repurposing, including Flash, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264, and XDCAM.

Live Mixing Engineer Antonius Kern Chooses to Use WavesLive Tools for German Production The Voice Kids and Other Programs

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL, July 10, 2014 — Live FOH, broadcast, and monitor mixing engineer Antonius Kern is part of a growing trend of live audio professionals using tools from Waves Audio’s WavesLive division (http://www.waves.com/live-sound), a leader in all live sound market segments and an innovative developer of solutions for live platforms. Kern’s credits include German TV productions Popidol, Popstars, The Voice of Germany and The Voice Kids, and music acts such as Patrice, Max Herre, and Joy Denalane. Recently, Kern has been putting Waves tools to use on The Voice of Germany and The Voice Kids as both programs continue their successful runs.

While doing pre-production for the forthcoming 2014 run of The Voice Kids, Toni shared his thoughts about using Waves tools: “In The Voice Kids, some of the performers are obviously performing on a live stage for the first time in their lives. In order to give them confidence, I use Waves tools to provide them with the best mix possible. Initially, I naturally gravitated toward the tools I was familiar with from the analog world, meaning emulations of actual analog devices. Working with the DiGiCo SD7, it was great having all my Waves tools available to me from the console’s screen and touch-and-turn knob/button. The Waves-enabled SD7 console is equipped with Waves SoundGrid Server One in a redundant processing setup, which gives me the confidence I need for the broadcast environment.”

Toni adds, “My favorite Waves plugins are the SSL G-Master Buss Compressor for parallel compression; the CLA-2A Compressor/Limiter as a buss compressor for different audio subgroups and also as an input channel compressor for vocals and snares; the PuigChild compressor on the master compressor for some subgroups; and the SSL G-Equalizer for nearly all master subgroups. Working with Waves MultiRack SoundGrid, I only need one internal system – no D/A-A/D conversion or class-A signal processing tools. Waves tools are essential in meeting the challenge of mixing a dynamic band on TV.”

DK-Technologies Steps Up The DK T7 Game At IBC 2014

DK-Technologies has once again upped the functionality of its competitively priced DK T7 audio, loudness and logging meter by adding Loudness Automation, a software update that is free of charge to existing and future DK T7 users.

On show at DK-Technologies’ IBC 2014 stand (8.E60), this latest upgrade is based on SMPTE timecode and allows the DK T7 to instantly recalculate the Integrated Loudness value up to four hours back in time. For audio engineers, this exceptionally useful time saving function is a major improvement as it means they no longer have to re-run programme material to hit their Loudness target value.

Uffe Kjems, Product Marketing Director for DK-Technologies, says: “Every engineer working with broadcast audio knows that hitting the Loudness measure Bulls Eye can be a very tedious and time consuming process. For this reason, we know they will really appreciate our new Loudness Automation feature because it will save them so much time. Loudness Automation adds yet another cool and practical feature to the DK T7 – and at no additional cost – making it the strongest, most competitive and most affordable Loudness meter on the market today.”

DK-Technologies has also added USB mouse operation to the Multi touch screen DK T7, allowing for fast and easy on screen access or operation using the HDMI external monitor output. A number of other improvements have also been incorporated, including headphone volume control and more screen setup functions.

The DK T7 allows end-users to adapt to virtually any format including 3G SDI I/O. The unit also offers 8 AES/EBU input/output channels, 2ch Analogue input channels, headphone output and HDMI monitor output.

At just 20 x 135 x 180 mm (depth, height and width), the DK T7’s compact design allows it to be highly portable and easy to position, while its intuitive multi touch interface makes it very straightforward to use.

The meter is currently available in two different models – the DK T7 costing €3495 and the entry level DK T7 Stereo, costing €2895. Both models are available with or without balanced digital AES inputs as well as in 19” rack mountable versions.

For a demo and more information please visit DK-Technologies at IBC 2014 (8:E60) or visit www.dk-technologies.com.
