JVC ‘F.A.S.T. Track Tour’ to Showcase Live HD Streaming Technologies

Multi-City Road Show Launches in Boston on Aug. 26

WAYNE, NJ – JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., today announced its “F.A.S.T. Track Tour,” a series of presentations to promote the live HD streaming capabilities built into its camcorders and related products, as well as to provide information about streaming technology for video professionals. The multi-city tour launches in Boston on Aug. 26, 2014, at the Boston Marriott Newton, and continues to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Sept. 23. The free seminars run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include lunch.

Short for “Fluent Adaptive Streaming Technology,” F.A.S.T. represents streaming technology built into JVC’s GY-HM650, GY-HM850 and GY-HM890 cameras that includes content-aware error correction to ensure reliable HD transmission over a variety of Internet connections. During the presentation, JVC will showcase the cameras as well as its new BR-800 ProHD Broadcaster server, BR-EN800 encoder and BR-DE800 decoder. The program will also include guest speakers and interactive demonstrations.

“JVC has already revolutionized live reporting for several broadcast news stations across the country. Now we want to show the professional non-broadcast marketplace – from corporations and churches to PEG channels and event videographers – how to provide cost effective live HD transmissions for their audiences,” said Dave Walton, assistant vice president, marketing communications. “We have recruited industry experts to share valuable information and help our attendees get on the ‘F.A.S.T. Track’ for live HD video streaming.”

The program includes an introduction to streaming technology, including details on bandwidth, data rates, encoding and protocols. Streaming production workflows, from network connectivity to delivery, will also be discussed. The seminars will be presented by industry consultant Jan Ozer, who has written more than 20 books about video technology and currently writes for Streaming Media Magazine and Streaming Media Producer.

“Many producers shy away from live streaming because they think it’s too hard, too expensive and that the quality is inferior,” said Ozer. “With its in-camera HD streaming capabilities, JVC has created a simple, high-quality and affordable streaming solution that can improve communications within an organization or potentially create a new revenue stream.”

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Establishes a New Standard for Moscow Nightlife in Space Club

MOSCOW, Russia — The nightlife culture changed dramatically in the Russian capital of Moscow with the grandiose opening of Space Moscow, a huge entertainment venue and nightclub designed to match the style of the original Space Club in Ibiza, Spain. To create a mesmerizing experience, Vitally Perepelin, Lighting Designer for Space Moscow, deployed over 70 of HARMAN’s Martin Professional lighting fixtures, fog machines, and lighting consoles.

The Space Ibiza club is a long-time active user of Martin lighting solutions, so when the franchise was brought to Moscow it was natural to continue using Martin equipment. Perepelin’s design features 22 MAC Aura LED wash lights, 12 MAC Viper Profiles, 12 compact MAC 101 fixtures, 16 RUSH MH3 Beams, 12 Atomic 3000 DMX strobes, M6 controller, ZR-44 Hi-Mass fog machine and the Jem 365 Ready hazer.

“I personally insisted on using Martin equipment,” said Perepelin. “I worked with Martin fixtures at the Euroshow company and I know very well the high quality of the products. The fixtures are very simple to use and they have a user-friendly menu. Moreover, some of them are really unique lights that don’t have any equals on the market. For example, the MAC Viper Profile is very fast for its size, bright, has a great set of gobos and is an excellent beam and animation. In my mind, Martin offers an optimal price-quality ratio which was a deciding factor for our installation.”

“Knowing that they also used Martin fixtures at Space in Spain, it was one more reason for me to pick the fixtures,” said Perepelin. “I think that our greatest achievement is that we can meet the riders of such popular world stars performing at our club such as Tiësto, who was the opening act in 2013, Steve Aoki, Above & Beyond, Cosmic Gate and others. The Lighting Designer for Tiësto was very appreciative of our installation and equipment, which is proof of our success.”

Space is far from just a nightclub and a big entertainment venue as it also functions as an events hall for corporate events. For this reason, it was important that the lighting installation be mobile to meet the different requirements of various events.

“From time to time I change the position of the Martin fixtures in the lighting set to add some diversity,” said Perepelin. “Of course, the changes are not so crucial but it’s still nice to have the flexibility to do so according to the customers’ wishes.”
“I still like to use my favorite compact moving head, the MAC 101,” said Perepelin. “Even though it’s been four years since its launch, it is a vital asset in many of my installations. It’s really fast and has a very bright beam! When the time comes for the most energetic part of the show, the MAC 101s and RUSH MH3 Beams march into battle. The high speed in combination with the brightness is truly amazing.”

Perepelin was very happy with Martin’s decision to provide an entry-level fixture with the launch of the RUSH series. “I think the RUSH MH3 Beam is a very worthy fixture for its functions and features,” he said. “It is perfect from the point of price and quality, which is a crucial factor in the club sphere. It’s not easy to find an affordable fixture with a good light output but the RUSH MH3 Beam has everything you need. It’s dynamic, has rich colors, a great prism and awesome gobos. It’s the perfect fixture!”

Perepelin explained that the basis for all lighting installations is centered around the flagship M6 lighting console and mentioned that he chose for several reasons. “As we use a set of Martin equipment, in my opinion we should use an original console. The M6 has all necessary functions for this club. Also, it is really easy to use and very powerful. It has perfect touchscreens that I like a lot and the programming is very easy too. It’s intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to jump between pages and arrange everything. I put one kind of parameters on one page and all the others on another which makes it easy to switch back and forth. This function makes this console so handy for me!”

EAI Brings Martin Audio MLA To Singapore

As its global reputation continues to accelerate, the penetration of Martin Audio’s award-winning MLA multi-cellular loudspeaker into new territories increases unabated.

This is no better illustrated than in the Far East, where Singapore-based EXPO AV-INSYNC PTE (EAI) has just significantly boosted an inventory that also includes a Martin Audio W8LM Mini Line Array by purchasing the country’s first MLA System 36 from local distributors Swee Lee.

EAI Managing Director, Gerard Rodrigues, said he was proud to be the country’s first investor in the groundbreaking system. Speaking of the acquisition, he said, “We wanted a larger format, steerable array system to add on to our inventory and it needed to represent a significant upgrade. The other main reason is that the next four upcoming gigs are all rider specific.”

He says the latest purchase continues a rich legacy that began with the older Martin Audio Wavefront W3/WS2 range. “We wanted to be the first company to own MLA, but in any case, after a year’s worth of research for a new line array, this system came out top in terms of sound quality, output, ease of use and what engineers wanted most.”

EAI had first heard about the MLA system back in late 2012. “We deliberated this to ensure we had concert and corporate clients who would love it and specify it for their events. And although we had not heard it live at the time, I can’t remember the last time Martin Audio built a bad box, whether loudspeakers or line arrays.”

Rodrigues and his Technical Director Desmond Zuzarte quickly discovered that MLA’s ease of use, the output it delivers from just a 12” enclosure, and the steerability and tailored control for each different venue made this a unique proposition.

“Chris Pyne, [Martin Audio APAC Technical & Training Support] gave us the added assurance that of the three brands we were reviewing this was by far the best. We then met Simon Bull (Martin Audio Director of Sales) and Andy Duffield (APAC Account Manager) — and the rest was history.”

After intensive training in late July, hosted by their venue partners Singapore Expo & Max Atria and conducted by Pyne, the system will debut later this summer at the Singapore Expo Hall 1 in front of 6,000 people for a talent show.

Summing up, Rodrigues, says, “Our sound engineers are just very excited about this acquisition. From a sales point of view, the MLA speaks for itself. Aside from its output, the other big advantage is its weight — here in Singapore, we needed a system that could deliver huge sound output, while maintaining a certain weight load restriction in many venues.

“Looking at how the system is selling in Japan alone, it is a choice of all concert organizers and technical directors for large scale events.”

Gerard Rodrigues says he is looking forward with relish to promoting MLA as the first system in Singapore and will be inviting key clients and concert organizers to hear it.

Meanwhile, the adventure is just beginning as EAI are already in talks with Swee Lee about adding an MLA Compact system.

Pink Noise employs dB Technologies system for Chicago Festival Cubano

Chicago-based Pink Noise (www.thepinknoise.com) provided sound reinforcement for the annual Festival Cubano this year, August 15-17 in Chicago.
Now in its fifth year, the three-day summer festival is recognized as one of the largest and elite Latino family festivals in the nation. Festival Cubano is a high quality, authentic experience that features the best of Cuba’s rich, colorful and lively culture.
This year’s lineup included Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Santiago, Falardo Jr., El Gran Combo and the African-Cuban funk band Palo. The concerts drew crowds of over 25,000.
For the event, Pink Noise provided sound reinforcement equipment from loudspeaker manufacturer dB Technologies. The system was comprised of 12 DVA-T12 and 4 DVA-T8 active three-way line array cabinets, flown eight per side; plus 8 DVA-S30 dual 18” subwoofers. Pink Noise also be used RCF NX-L24A active column cabinets coupled with DVA-S20DP active double 18” subwoofers for sidefills. 10 dB Technologies DVX-DM15 15” two-way stage monitors will be utilized on the stage.

Lawmakers in North Dakota Get Complete Coverage With Renkus-Heinz

Bismarck, ND – August 2014… Located in the capital city of Bismarck, North Dakota’s Legislative Assembly building is home to the state’s Senate and House of Representative chambers. Known as the “Skyscraper on the Prairie,” the 19-story tower was constructed during the Great Depression, and to this day stands as the tallest building in North Dakota. Both the semi-circular Senate and House chamber rooms feature high ceilings and walls of American chestnut, walnut, and oak throughout. A balcony area hangs over the main seating floor in each chamber.

While visually impressive, the wood paneling and high ceilings in both chamber rooms were a source of coverage and reverberation issues. Additionally, the low ceiling in the under-balcony areas blocked sound from the main system, and the few small supplemental speakers in the upper balcony area struggled to provide adequate coverage.

After an EASE analysis of the room, Fargo-based Tricorne Audio selected two Renkus-Heinz ICONYX IC24-R-II Digitally Steerable Line Array Loudspeaker Systems to address the issues. ICONYX steered array technology enables precise steering of the sound toward the audience and away from walls and other reflective surfaces, reducing reflections and improving intelligibility.

“Our client wanted better coverage overall,” explained Tricorne Audio’s Dallas Anderson. “With the ICONYX IC24 arrays, we were able to address the reflections, dead spots, and hot spots by steering the sound – a beam for the balcony, and separate beams for the floor and under balcony areas.”

The ICONYX IC24s were installed in both the House and Senate chambers on the wall behind the rostrum. The cabinets were custom painted to match the color of the wood paneling, addressing the requirement that the speakers blend in with the décor.

To round out the system in both the House and Senate chambers, Tricorne installed Biamp Tesira servers with IO cards, Audio Technica PRO Series 6-inch gooseneck mics, and a Shure wireless mic system.

“It’s a pretty basic and straightforward system in both the House and Senate chambers,” said Anderson. “With the ICONYX IC24s, the sound is very consistent, very even throughout.”

K2 Becomes NYC’s Newest Flying Superhero

NEW YORK CITY — For the launch of the summer blockbuster film X-Men: Days of Future Past, 20th Century Fox staged its worldwide premiere at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on midtown Manhattan’s west side.

The debut of the $200-million-plus film, attended by Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry and other stars, was a huge event filling a hall inside the cavernous Javits Center and illuminating a 75-foot-wide screen hung on the hall’s north wall. The showing also had to be able to reproduce the film’s bombastic 5.1 surround soundtrack, but the Javits is no cinema; the same huge floor-to-ceiling glass wall that offers spectacular views of the Hudson River and New Jersey can also create uncontrollable aural reflections that would turn the hall into an acoustical nightmare.

Event producer Samantha Sackler Productions tapped NYC-based See Factor Industry, its longtime collaborator on east coast events and movie premieres, who called upon the sonic equivalent of a superhero: L-ACOUSTICS’ K2, a lightweight, high-powered, full-range line source array system that made its official debut earlier this year. For the X-Men premiere, the AV specialist deployed 24 K2, 12 SB28 subs and 16 coaxial 115XT HiQ wedges, all powered and processed by L-ACOUSTICS’ LA8 amplified controllers.
