Digital Nirvana Introduces New Media Management Platform at IBC2014

Fremont, CA – At IBC2014 in Amsterdam next month, Digital Nirvana will introduce its Media Management Platform, which offers a suite of applications that allows users to capture, edit, share, and manage content – as well as prove compliance, monitor and analyze video. Digital Nirvana will exhibit this platform in the booth of EMEA Gateway during the IBC convention – Hall 9, Stand B14.

Professionals using the new Digital Nirvana platform can capture content from multiple live video feeds in original recording and proxy format; edit, capture and store live video feeds; quickly repurpose content for multiple platforms and export it for final editing, rebroadcast, MAM, and archiving; manage and search content using advanced search terms; log and monitor video for regulatory or licensing requirements and quality control; and compare, review and analyze content for competitive analysis, legal reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.

“We couldn’t think of a better venue than IBC to launch our new platform,” said Arco Groenenberg, director of sales and marketing for Broadcast Products, Digital Nirvana. “With these new features, we’ve solidified our platform as the smartest management solution in the industry with the most rapid return on investment. Based on the feedback we receive from our close customer relationships, we’ll keep pushing the envelope and bring more functionality to this centralized approach.”

The Digital Nirvana Media Management Platform includes the following applications:

Capture
A feature-rich capture application records and stores hybrid inputs including SDI, ASI, ASI-IP, ATSC and QAM signals. Recording formats include 50 Hz, 60 Hz, SD/HD and DVB-T/C/S2. The platform supports RF and Cable Card Technology recording from encrypted cable feeds in full HD – allowing for direct cable and off-air antenna recording with no conversion needed. By setting parameters within the Program Guide, users can schedule continuous or intermittent recording. Users can record, monitor and analyze the performance of multiple competitive stations, saving hours of time, raising productivity and eliminating the need for stand-alone DVRs.

Edit
A powerful edit application allows users to produce frame-accurate cut clips from live or previous recordings, allowing for quick turn around when repurposing and editing content. OTT clipping and ad verification are also included in this system. Edits can be made from the desktop or mobile devices using any standard web browser. An unlimited number of users can collaborate from anyplace via the web-based interface. Content can be uploaded to the cloud and stored for final editing, re-broadcast, MAM files or archives.

Share
The platform enables users to capture and record multiple video feeds and repurpose them quickly for multiple platforms such as web, mobile, social media and the cloud. Clips can be exported directly to editing, MAM and archiving solutions. NAS Connect allows for connection to NAS/SAN storage for expansion and easy integration into existing workflows. The platform also allows unlimited user account and role set-ups and provides web captioning ability.

Manage
The platform’s management capabilities set Digital Nirvana’s approach apart from other systems. Users can search by date, time, and channel as well as by key words in the close caption, alert reports, as-run and traffic logs. Expression searches enable simultaneous keyword searches in the As Run log and closed captioning sections. A Boolean search capability makes it easier to define the search by adding AND, OR, + within search terms. This allows the user to search for captions that contain multiple words. The results are contained within a summary list with a hyperlink to the video content. Users can set up custom profiles with specific preferences that, depending upon the application, are searchable by time, date and alarm profile.

Comply
Users can log and monitor video content for regulatory, licensing requirements and quality control. Alerts can customized based upon the channel, time of day, duration, and choice of error such as a missing closed caption, loss of video or audio, loudness, etc. Customized profiles with specific preferences, searchable by time, date and alarm profile, can be set up.

Analyze
Users can also compare, review and analyze content for quality, competitive analysis, legal review and collaboration. It also extracts NAVE (Nielsen Audio Video Encoder) watermarks embedded in the audio track of the DTV signal and can log that data. The system decodes, logs, and verifies the presence of the watermarks to: ensure proper transmission and delivery to Nielsen’s home monitoring equipment; enable effective troubleshooting with real-time alerts for any signal discrepancies; and ensure ratings credit for advertising, allowing the setting of proper ad rates. It also provides a director’s audio track for assistance troubleshooting newscasts and programs.

Optional Modules

- Loudness monitoring
- iPad/iPhone encoding
- Centralized management
- REST API
- Variable speed playback that allows for playback at 2x, 4x, 1/2x, and -2x; enabling faster operation during legal reviews, ad verification, content review and repurposing.

Hardware
The solution runs on a feature-rich hardware appliance that accepts multiple inputs in one unit, allowing operators to do more with less hardware. In addition to recording SDI, ASI, ASI-IP, ATSC and QAM signals, it supports SD/HD, 50 Hz, 60 Hz and DVB-T/C/S2 formats. It also supports RF and Cable Card Technology recording from encrypted cable feeds in full HD. It is an industrial grade server with Linux OS, RAID 6HDD, built-in redundant power supplies and open IT connectivity
The system is available in three levels: Essentials (1RU server), Pro and Enterprise (both 3RU)

DVEO Launches 50 Channel Transcoding Playout Server and Streaming Appliance – Ideal for Websites, Schools, Hotels, or Digital Signage

Multichannel Streaming Server for Scheduled Continuous Streaming -– IP Grooming Server 50ch 1TBSan Diego, California — DVEO, the broadcast division of Computer Modules, Inc. (CMI), is now shipping their multiple channel live streaming playout server with transcoding for video-on-demand applications. The IP Grooming Server 50ch 1TB streams multiple video and audio files from the on board one terabyte hard drive, with scheduled playlists. DVEO will introduce the new system at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, September 12-16, at Stand 2.A34.

The IP Grooming Server is a media capture and playout server. It stores transport streams, then “grooms” them by transcoding the streams to H.264 and/or scaling the video to different resolutions. It also adds various “wrappers” such as HLS, RTMP, etc.

The Linux based system outputs up to 50 streams at the same time, with different bit rates and wrappers for each stream.

The input of the stored content typically arrives via FTP file transfer, and the files to be played are stored on the server. Input can be individual files or multiple files. Supported file types include H.264 ts, flv, H.264 ps, .mov, VC-1 (.wmv), mkv, and others. The IP Grooming Server naturally supports loopable playback.

“With the IP Grooming Server, you can create your own 50 ‘streaming’ web channels with 50 different movies or content, playing on your preset schedule,” commented Laszlo Zoltan, Vice President of DVEO. “It’s a great video hosting playout server for ISPs, corporate websites, schools, hotels, and digital signage.”

“We also offer a system without transcoding or scaling — the IP Server,” Laszlo Zoltan went on to say. “The IP Server includes scheduling and adds wrappers, making it a cost-efficient option.”

Extron Launches HDMI Wireless Product Line with eLink 100

Extron Electronics is pleased to introduce the eLink 100, a wireless extender that sends HDMI video and multi-channel audio signals up to 100 feet (30 meters). It is HDCP compliant, and supports computer video with resolutions to 1920×1080, including HDTV 1080p/60. Latency of less than one millisecond ensures high quality wireless operation with real-time performance. Use of the 5 GHz spectrum allows signals to pass easily through walls and other obstacles. To ensure connection stability in environments with multipath signals, the extender uses a robust multi-input and multi-output – MIMO communication technology with AES-128 encryption and actively monitors the RF spectrum for selection of the ideal transmission channels. Since these technologies do not require line-of-sight, the eLink 100 T transmitter and eLink 100 R receiver may be concealed or mounted in separate areas to maintain the aesthetics of the space. more

Forbidden Integrates Timecode Buddy Into Forscene Platform Via MovieSlate iOS App

LONDON — Aug 26, 2014 – Forbidden Technologies plc (AIM: FBT), the AIM-quoted owner and developer of the market-leading cloud video platform Forscene, today announced that it has integrated Forscene with Timecode Systems Limited’s Timecode Buddy via the MovieSlate iOS application. MovieSlate is the industry standard for production slates and the Timecode Buddy system lets users reliably and easily generate, sync, and share accurate timecodes and metadata wirelessly over RF or Wi-Fi networks. The integration brings the three technologies together to allow people to insert metadata notes and media into a logging and editing system.

“We’re always aiming to integrate with proven technologies that help our customers solve their most vexing problems in order to save time and money. This integration fills a gap at the beginning of the production workflow, helping our customers not only capture important metadata in Forscene from the very start of production, but also make sure the metadata is synchronized and searchable throughout the workflow,” said Greg Hirst, business development director, Forbidden Technologies plc. “Timecode Buddy is a powerful enhancement to the Forscene platform that makes it possible to import shot notes created on the shoot directly into Forscene in a way that automatically links back to the media — a feature that translates to a faster, more efficient post process.”

With the Timecode Sync plugin, MovieSlate users can leverage SMPTE timecode that’s synced over Wi-Fi, in real time, from the extremely accurate Timecode Buddy system. This means that MovieSlate notes containing shoot log information reference the same timecode as the media itself. As a result of the Forscene integration, the MovieSlate shoot notes then automatically link back to the media when they’re imported into Forscene. This process ensures that producers starting work in Forscene already have some basic notes from which to build more detailed logs. All information is present throughout the Forscene workflow as searchable metadata to allow for fast assembly and editing.

The integration with Forscene is Timecode Buddy’s first integration with a crossplatform editing solution.

“Timecode Systems has always believed that collaboration is the only true way to advance the greater good of the industry. From day one, our senior production contacts have been telling us that they require more manufacturers and developers to work together with common interfaces,” said Paul Scurrell, managing director, Timecode Systems Limited. “This integration is very important to Timecode Buddy because it takes us one step closer to our mission of bringing the latest technology together with third-party companies to provide a more efficient and elegant way to sync, log, and track content. Forscene is already widely adopted in production and post- production workflows, so it is an ideal platform with which to integrate.”

K−Touch 2.0.0 is Here!

Building on the excellent market reception of our K−Touch system, Kramer Electronics is pleased to introduce the K−Touch 2.0.0, K−Touch Builder version 2.0.0
that adds many new features and apps compatible with these new features. The most important improvement is that now the Android app supports the same features as the iOS app, including improved variables and improved multi−state images. Since the entire system is cloud based, you don’t need to do anything special to enjoy these improvements:
Variables − For K−Touch power−users, variables make building complex controls simpler. Almost any aspect of a remote can be controlled by a variable. Documentation will be available as soon as possible.
Multi−State Images − Buttons and links now have three appearance states: default, pressed, and selected. Make your user interface more interesting and more interactive. Give your user interface more meaning with source selection indication − all in a single Drawer. The graphics in the three main themes have all been updated with “pressed” states, and activity and source buttons also have “selected” states. Put them in groups so they interact with one another, and use variables for even more exciting effects. Templates will be updated so the Handset Wizard can create handsets with two−state buttons.
New Top Drawer − Top Drawers work as ‘pinned’ (static) drawers, since the gesture to open and close a Drawer conflicts with the gesture for iOS’ Notification Center Second Multi−State Deselect Group − Multi−state images now support a second ‘deselect’ group, allowing for two sets of source/activity to interact with one another without using variables to do so. One example is in the default handset templates, where there is a set of activity buttons on the home page, and another in a Drawer. Now, when you press ‘Watch Movie’ in one place, it is selected in both.
URL Widget Refresh − URL widget views now refresh at a user−defined interval. This is particularly useful with static pages with content that changes periodically.
Wake−on−LAN (WoL) Action − WoL is now an Action object. Add the WoL object to a macro on a button or a link or in a panel entrance for much better control of WoL devices.
UPnP Auto−discovery − Automatic discovery of some UPnP devices is now supported.
Rebuilt URL Scheme with Linking − Launch K−Touch and open the remote to a specific Page and Panel using nothing more than a URL. In addition, the ‘Back’ button now supports external applications, so if some other app calls K−Touch, the ‘Back’ button returns the user to the external application.
Builder Handset Full−Resolution Grid − The handset layout grid can now be as fine as you need. Make your grid the same size as the number of pixels in the handset. Position buttons and other elements down to the pixel, then use the new alignment tools to line them up.
Builder Multi−Select − Select multiple objects and edit their attributes, move, or align them − all at once. Drag− or shift−select a series of buttons and set all their widths at the same time, assign labels, or nudge them with the arrow keys.
Gateway IP Tracking − Auto−discovered gateway IP addresses are tracked so they can move and still work.

Outkast Says “Hey Ya” To DiGiCo

Group’s FOH and monitor engineers make the hip hop over to SD10s

ATLANTA — Six-time Grammy Award winners Outkast – the duo of André “André 3000″ Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton – have sold over 25 million albums in a career that spans more than two decades. Keeping the music sounding fresh on stage has been the primary goal of their long touring history, and this year the group took their show to another sonic level with the switch to DiGiCo SD10 digital consoles for both the front of house and monitor mixing roles.

The switch to the SD10 came about halfway through the group’s 40-date worldwide summer festival itinerary, which included stops at Coachella, Lollapalooza and Way Out West, and the word “amazing” is heard often and with emphasis by the band and those who mix them. “It does sound amazing,” comments Darcy Khan, Outkast’s FOH mixer and touring account manager. “What’s really incredible is that as soon as I turned it on, I said to myself, ‘That’s what the kick sounds like, that’s what the snare sounds like.’ My sounds were coming through just as I hear them without ever touching the console. Once you add in the dynamic EQ and access to multiband [EQ], you realize that the possibilities on this desk are limitless.” more
