HARMAN’s JBL Commercial Introduces High-Value, High-Performance Amplifiers and Mixers at ISE 2014

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – At Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2014, HARMAN’s JBL Commercial is introducing six Commercial Series Amplifiers (CSA) and two Commercial Series Mixers (CSM) that combine outstanding value and performance.

The JBL Commercial power amplifiers and mixers making their ISE 2014 debut include the following:

• CSA2120Z amplifier, 2 channels, 120-watt power output per channel
• CSA280Z amplifier, 2 channels, 80-watt power output per channel
• CSA240Z amplifier, 2 channels, 40-watt power output per channel
• CSA1120Z amplifier, 1 channel, 120-watt power output
• CSA180Z amplifier, 1 channel, 80-watt power output
• CSA140Z amplifier, 1 channel, 40-watt power output
• CSM-28 mixer, 8 inputs, 2 outputs
• CSM-14 mixer, 4 inputs, 1 output

“Our new JBL Commercial CSA and CSM amplifiers and mixers fulfill the need for small, affordable, easy to use sound reinforcement components in places like restaurants, coffee shops, fitness facilities, bars and other spaces where an elaborate A/V installation isn’t required,” said Craig Lambrecht, Business Segment Manager, Amplifier Business Unit. “They’re designed and engineered to deliver plenty of power and flexibility along with exceptional sound and reliability.”

The CSA amplifiers incorporate HARMAN’s proprietary DriveCore amplifier IC, which combines what would be hundreds of conventional parts into a single chip smaller than a dime. DriveCore offers significantly reduced power consumption, size and weight while delivering outstanding sound quality. All CSA amps are just 1U rack space high and a half-rack wide. All models can operate into 8 ohm and 4 ohm loads and can be used with 70V and 100V distributed audio systems without the need for a separate transformer. A single amp channel (or 1 channel amplifier) can easily drive multiple speakers without the need for complex wiring and the amplifiers’ distributed audio capability simplifies adding volume controls to single- or multiple- speaker zones. All feature a universal power supply for international use and accept an Ethernet control cable for use with the JBL CSR-V wall-mount volume control.

JBL Commercial’s CSM mixers are perfect for background music, paging, security and other uses. Like the CSA amplifiers, the CSM models are simple to set up and use, with a minimum of front panel controls and illuminated rings around the knobs for easy visibility. All the mixers provide channel, master volume and independent bass and treble controls. The rear panel offers RCA inputs and Euro-block-type mic/line input and output connectors. All models feature priority muting, VOX ducking and mic phantom power and can be used with JBL’s CSR-V wall controller.

JBL Commercial components are manufactured under HARMAN JBL’s GreenEdge initiative, for increased energy efficiency and lighter weight while delivering top-quality performance. CSA amps and CSM mixers conform to lead-free RoHS standards, use recycled copper, aluminum and steel from factory processes and benefit from additional environmentally conscious manufacturing procedures.

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Fixtures Shine For Saddleback Church’s Powerful, Music-Inspired Services and Global Broadcasts

LAKE FOREST, California — With a flourishing network of worship facilities across southern California, internationally and via webcasts, the Saddleback Church, with a congregation of tens of thousand around the world, has grown accustom to the bold sermons from Pastor Rick Warren in an exciting atmosphere. Highlighted by a wide variety of HARMAN’s Martin Professional lighting fixtures, the church has developed a type of service that’s evolved from a single preacher on a stage to an all-encompassing music and light show experience. Flashing lights, passion-filled songs and roaring applause breaks are the norm for Saddleback.

Saddleback’s main worship center, out of the six in the Lake Forest, CA campus, boasts six MAC Viper Profiles and 18 Auras along the stage. The main worship center seats 3,000 members per service, averaging more than 17,000 worshipers per weekend. The additional worship areas on the Lake Forest campus range from 50-600 capacity limits, offering different takes on the Church’s sermon for the day, whether a more traditional service, hard rock, or other genre, to keep parishioners entertained and engaged. Each of the remote campuses features a wide variety of Martin fixtures as well.

In-house lighting designer Alex Fuller has played a large part in the implementation of Martin lighting fixtures into Saddleback Church. “We’re here to provide an experience for the community, not just a stage for your average worship service,” stated Fuller. “The Vipers perform perfectly once they’re up in our venues, and the Auras are workhorses that we can rely on week after week, without worry.”

A routine day of service in the main worship venue transitions between the band performing five to six songs, regular and guest speakers and videos playing. Two 24×13-foot screens flank the stage for an enhanced visual experience.

Recently, Saddleback has added satellite campuses in Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, and Berlin. In addition to creating delightful, custom light shows for each sermon and concert, the church broadcasts each service live to its congregation around the world. “Our worship center has become more of a broadcast room, with thousands of people both participating live and watching abroad,” says Greg Baker, Global Technical Director, Saddleback Church. “Lighting is a huge part of broadcast and the Martin fixtures allow us to provide top-notch quality over our high-definition broadcast channel every day. Martin translates very well on air and that’s something our remote members appreciate.”

“The support system Martin has developed for its customers has solidified my appreciation for its lights. I’m a Martin fan through and through,” continued Fuller. “Every type of fixture in the industry eventually will require service and Martin is on top of it immediately. We are never down and can always rely on Martin no matter what our worship services, in any part of the world need.”

Hitachi Projector Boosts Resident Involvement and Participation at Tara Woods Community

North Fort Myers, Florida, January 31, 2014 – As the central gathering area of the Tara Woods 55-and-older community in North Fort Myers, FL, the center’s clubhouse needs to provide a consistent projection source for all kinds of media. After a previous projector had failed, Wayne Cox’s experience in educational A/V led him to purchase a Hitachi CP-WX8265 projector for the community. The projector was purchased from Harmon’s Audio Visual in Fort Myers, FL.

“There are no window coverings in the clubhouse, so high brightness is a must,” said Mr. Cox, who is a member of a volunteer group called Sound and Lighting that sets up, operates and services all audio and video equipment for the community. “I’ve already received plenty of positive feedback from the community on the brightnesow s and clarity of images.”

The clubhouse seats several hundred and is used for movie nights, bingo and, most recently projected lyrics during the community’s Christmas Carol Sing-a-long.

“Attendance at our movie night has already increased because of the picture quality,” said Mr. Cox. “We are able to rely on the image quality even on the brightest days.”

Mr. Cox, now retired, used to work as the Technologies Manager at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He became familiar with Hitachi products during his time there, recognizing the projectors for their high resolution, brightness, contrast ratio, aspect ratio and connectivity.

The Hitachi CP-WX8265 3LCD projector features a brightness of 6,500 ANSI lumens and supports an aspect ratio of 16:10 WXGA.

SunBriteTV Outdoor Televisions Score Gold Medal For Family Entertainment

THOUSAND OAKS, California, January 28, 2013 — It will take skills, dedication and years of practice to score gold on the slopes and on the ice this winter but sports fans everywhere can immediately climb the podium with a purpose-built SunBriteTV outdoor television featuring ruggedized screens, specialized gaskets and insulated electronics. Now, all the greatest sporting events can be enjoyed outdoors all year — without the hassle and backache of moving, mounting, setting up and then removing an indoor TV for every event!

As outdoor entertaining on patios, decks, boats and pool areas looks to become a major trend of 2014 — from the sunbelt right up to the Canadian border — purpose-built permanently-installed outdoor technologies including pizza ovens, outdoor kitchens, smokers, heaters, sound systems and televisions are enabling fans to enjoy their sport, entertain friends and family and share their gardens, balconies and decks.

“Outdoor entertaining — whether it’s hosting a party or watching a game — is a very different, fun dynamic that is especially conducive to sports,” said Tom Dixon, Vice President of Marketing, SunBriteTV. “The freedom of movement and camaraderie/social interaction can be phenomenal — almost tribal! That’s important when you’re rooting for your team and especially when you’re rooting for your country!”

When used outdoors, outdoor televisions outperform indoor televisions on a host of important variables. All models withstand temperatures from -24°F to 122°F and completely resist rain, humidity, salt corrosion, dust, and insects. Anti-glare screens are specially designed to deliver bright high-definition images in any outdoor climate, any time of day or night.

“Entertaining is all about enjoying the moment, not setting up for the moment!” Dixon continued. “If you have to wheel out your TV, mount it, cable the connection and tear down after the event, then you’ll be less likely to take the party outside. What’s more, if the television is not optimized for outdoor use, brightness, moisture and insects will impact the TV’s safety and performance! It’d probably be wiser to limit the risk of injury to trained athletes on screen!”

New A-Link Digital Audio Interface Makes Thousands of Connections for HARMAN’s Studer Vista X Digital Console

NEW YORK, New York – Today, HARMAN’s Studer launched its new Vista X digital console, and along with it several new technological innovations. Not only does the Vista X feature the groundbreaking Infinity processor; it also includes the brand-new A-Link audio interface system.

“In developing the Vista X and the Infinity Core, we needed to provide a suitable audio interface system to connect the huge number of audio channels,” said Andrew Hills, Product Director, Studer. “Out of this need came the development of the A-Link digital audio interface.”

A-Link is a fibre-based audio interface that uses a 3 GBit/s data rate to offer 1,536 audio channels per connection. A new PCI express card has been designed to fit into the Infinity Core’s server board. This card is fitted with 12 A-Link interfaces capable of over 5,000 inputs and 5,000 outputs offering the huge I/O interface counts required of this new processing engine.

A newly designed, D23m high-density I/O system is used to break out these A-Link connections to standard analog, digital and video interfaces. The A-Link interface also provides direct connection to the MediorNet distributed router, allowing multiple Infinity Cores to be connected together.

A white paper expanding on this new technology is also available.

HARMAN’s Studer Unveils New Infinity Series Processing Engine and Vista X Console Featuring Groundbreaking DSP Technology

NEW YORK, New York – Marking an enormous step forward in large-scale mixing console technology for broadcast applications, HARMAN’s Studer introduces its new Vista X digital console and the Studer Infinity Processing Engine. The Vista X offers an unsurpassed intuitive user interface, retaining the patented Vistonics™ and FaderGlow™ user interface, providing control of 800 or more audio DSP channels and more than 5,000 inputs and outputs.

At the heart of the system is the Infinity DSP core, which uses CPU-based processors to provide huge numbers of DSP channels for large-scale, high-resolution audio processing and mixing. Thanks to the Infinity core, this is the first time more than 800 audio channels have been processed in a single CPU-based board. This offers significant advantages, as CPU processing provides a scalable system, faster development of new signal processing designs, huge channel counts, full system redundancy without a single point of failure and the possibility of running third-party algorithms.

Until now, most audio DSP has used SHARC or FPGA chips. When applied to large-scale broadcast mixing applications these chip sets suffer two shortcomings: firstly, SHARC chips were developed nearly 15 years ago, and over time the capacity has increased by about 22 times. This has not kept pace with the increasing demands of modern multi-channel production. FPGAs, on the other hand, have increased in capacity hugely over the years but they are more complex to program for the specialist needs of audio DSP.

The impetus behind infinity was Studer’s desire to create a DSP engine that not only offers superb sonic quality but is adaptable and flexible to meet the changing demands of the market. The attraction of CPU technology as used on most computers has resulted in huge worldwide R&D investment in this technology. As such, these chips are not only extremely reliable in operation but also result in a doubling of processor power every 24 months (known as “Moore’s Law”).

The new Infinity DSP engine provides 12 A-Link high-capacity fiber digital audio interfaces, providing more than 5,000 inputs and outputs. A newly designed high-density I/O system – D23m, is used to break out these A-Link connections to standard analog, digital and video interfaces. The A-Link interface also provides direct connection to the Riedel MediorNet distributed router, allowing many Infinity systems to be connected together with router capacities of 10,000 square or more.

Studer consoles are designed with longevity and mission-critical operations in mind, and therefore reliability is of prime importance. A key element in the design of the Infinity Series is to avoid the possibility of a single fault causing loss of audio. Taking a lead from the “fly by wire” aircraft industry with multiple redundant processors flying the airplane, the new Vista X console features four processors, offering complete redundancy of the control surface. Now, the Infinity Core, with a combination of CPU-based DSP and A-Link audio interfaces, offers N+1 redundancy of the DSP engine and I/O with instant switchover between main and standby system without audio break.

CPU-based DSP means it is now economically viable to provide two completely independent DSP cores running in parallel with “instant” change over in case of DSP problems. The provision of two completely independent DSP engines overcomes potential single points of failure offered with traditional TDM-based systems. This new design also offers the possibility of two complete Vista X surfaces to be working on the same project at the same time. This allows very large, dual language or multi-format productions to be undertaken with ease.
