JBL VLA Line Arrays Hit A Home Run At Harbor Park

At Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia, home to Minor League Baseball’s Norfolk Tides, a new JBL VLA line array system gave the team’s stadium a sonic refresher that both vastly improved the sound on the field and did so very cost-effectively. Two clusters, each containing six JBL VLA 901 speakers with 90-degree horizontal horn coverage patterns offer fans exceptional sound and high intelligibility while staying within both the team’s budget and the physical limitations of the park.

“It was challenging because we could only work within the space that was already there,? said Tom “T? Brockenbrough, Project Manager for Onyx AudioVisual, the systems integrator for the project. Due to budget constraints, the system design and installation teams replacing the PA system were required to use the same sofitted set-backs in the outfield wall of Harbor Park, which was completed in 1993. Furthermore, the soffits could not be accessed more

Flyleaf Finds Innovative Uses for Soundcraft Digital Mixing Consoles on Their Current U.S. Tour

Platinum-selling rock band Flyleaf has been touring constantly in 2010, building upon the success of their Memento Mori and Flyleaf albums and hit songs like “Again,? “I’m So Sick? and “All Around Me.? Now on the second leg of Flyleaf’s “Unite and Fight? tour, Rich Caldwell (front of house engineer) and Sean Patrick (monitor engineer) rely on Soundcraft Vi6™ and Si3 digital mixing consoles, respectively.

“Earlier this year we were able to secure a production budget to carry consoles, so we started shopping for a desk to rent,? says Rich Caldwell, Flyleaf’s front of house engineer. “We wanted to go analog at the time, but it’s just not practical for a multi-band bill and limited trailer space. After several lengthy conversations with Vince Kapchinski, the owner of Backstage Sound and Lighting [of Bryan, Texas], we decided to take out the Vi6. He kept raving about how ‘analog’ the more

Logic Systems Deploys JBL SRX Subwoofers For Regional Entertainment Events

Logic Systems Sound and Lighting, a 20-year-old audio/video production company based in Valley Park, Missouri, continues to deploy JBL SRX728 subwoofers for events ranging from live concerts to presidential rallies across the Midwest. With a large arsenal of the subwoofers, owner Chip Self and his staff not only provide superior sound to the rental firm’s events, but also highlight the SRX728’s capabilities during local subwoofer technology workshops.

In his search for a subwoofer to replace his older, previous units, Self hoped to upgrade with a reliable, lightweight and durable loudspeaker that could be used for any venue or event. As an authorized JBL repair facility as well, Self had ever only seen one JBL SRX728 unit in for repair, which was ultimately how he was able to test it.

“The customer’s SRX728 impressed us because it was the first one we had ever seen come into our more

DJ Swivel On The Lexicon® PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle: “The Lexicon PCM suite is the only plug-in reverb I can put up against a $20,000 hardware reverb – and it’ll hold its own.?

DJ Swivel is a mixer, engineer, and producer who has worked with hip-hop, R&B and pop artists including Beyonce, Fabolous, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Diddy, Britney Spears, Kanye West and others. He is also co-founder/co-owner of Silverbridge Media, a music publishing company for film and TV music.

DJ Swivel uses the Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle and prizes it for its sound quality and flexibility. “I’ve worked with the Lexicon 960L hardware reverb (no longer available) for several years, and was never able to find a plug-in reverb that I warmed up to. They always added a certain amount of brittleness to a vocal that I didn’t care for,? Swivel said. “It wasn’t until I listened to the PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle that I felt confident in switching over to plug-in versions.?

“I mix almost exclusively in the box (on a computer), but until now I more

Gert Sanner Tours Deep Purple on Soundcraft Vi1™

As Deep Purple continue their tour through Germany and France, their long-serving FOH engineer Gert Sanner has taken the opportunity to transfer his show mix from his trusty Soundcraft Vi6 digital console to the smaller footprint of the new Vi1.

An early adopter of the Vi6 (since when he has regularly provided technical support to sales and rental company, SSE Group), Sanner was keen to move his show files to the Vi1 and prove the process in a real-world environment.

“The purpose was to create show files that would work on any Vi console,? he stated, with the end goal of purchasing a Vi1 for the band. Fortunately, the show transfer has proved 100% successful.

The features that originally persuaded Sanner to adopt this route were not only the Vi1’s compact footprint but the analogue inputs on the rear of the console. “This feature is great more
