HARMAN’s JBL Professional AW Series All-Weather Loudspeakers Receive EN54-24 Certification for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced that five of its AW Series all-weather loudspeakers have received EN54-24 certification. EN54-24 is the EU standard for loudspeakers intended for use in fire detection and fire alarm systems.

JBL’s EN54-24-certified AW Series models include the AW295, AW266, AW526, AW595, and AW566. All five lightweight, high-power 2-way loudspeakers are designed to deliver full-range sound with consistent pattern control and high intelligibility in a wide range of all-weather environments.

“JBL’s AW EN54-24-certified speakers are ideal for use in critical life safety applications or anywhere clear, powerful high-quality audio is needed,” said Rick Kamlet, Senior Manager, Commercial Installed Sound, JBL Professional. “Because of their all-weather construction, EN54-24 models are suitable for use in any fire detection and fire alarm system, whether used indoors or under the most extreme outdoor conditions.”

All JBL AW Series EN54-24-certified loudspeakers employ JBL’s exclusive Differential Drive™ dual voice coil, dual magnetic gap 12” and 15” woofers, and a 2432H 1.5-inch exit, 3” diaphragm high-frequency compression driver. The loudspeakers’ large-format Progressive Transition™ waveguide provides exceptional high-frequency coverage over a wide area, and the waveguide can be rotated to enable the loudspeakers to be used in either horizontal or vertical orientation.

All models utilize rugged multilayer glass composite enclosures and are heavily braced to maximize low-frequency performance. All feature a 14-gauge stainless steel grille backed with open-cell foam and a stainless steel mesh that provided durable protection in even the harshest outdoor environments. All AW Series EN 54-24 loudspeakers are equipped with a 400W 70/100V transformer for use in distributed audio systems and are supplied with a heavy-duty stainless steel U-type mounting bracket.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Introduces CBT 50LA-LS Line Array Column Loudspeaker with EN54-24 Certification

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today introduced its new CBT 50LA-LS line array column loudspeaker that comes with full EN54-24 certification. EN54-24 is the EU standard for loudspeakers intended for use in voice announce and fire alarm systems. The CBT 50LA-LS is an addition to the popular CBT Series (Constant Beamwidth Technology™) that has been developed exclusively for the European installation market.

The CBT 50LA-LS is a very compact 50 cm high column that utilizes a straight line of eight 2-inch drivers. It contains low-saturation transformers, so it can be used on 70V/100V distributed speaker lines or as low impedance speakers.

JBL’s CBT Series column loudspeakers were the first loudspeakers to incorporate JBL’s newly introduced and patented Constant Beamwidth Technology, using passive beam-forming components to deliver a narrow vertical beamwidth and constant directivity coverage from a passive column, resulting in high intelligibility in difficult acoustical venues and consistent frequency response at every listener location.

In addition, the CBT speakers provide Dynamic SonicGuard overload protection circuitry, which reduces distortion at high drive levels, along with user variable voicing which allows for selecting a flat frequency response or a midrange presence peak for especially clear speech intelligibility.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Adds to Legendary PD Series Loudspeakers with PD6000 Series

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – At ISE 2014, HARMAN’s JBL Professional is announcing a cost-effective addition to its hugely popular Precision Directivity Series product line. The PD6000 Series is designed for midsize to large venues requiring excellent pattern control, high output capability, configurable either individually or in array applications. The PD6000 models complement the larger PD700 mid-high systems with more compact size and greater affordability, while the PD6000’s higher SPL capability and larger waveguides supplement the midsize and compact AE Series systems. The PD6000 Series is ideal for stadiums, arenas, performing arts facilities, live theaters, auditoriums, houses of worship, and dance clubs.

The PD6000 Series consists of 14 models, which include four 3-way full-range systems, four 12-inch 2-way systems, four 2-way mid-high systems and two low-frequency models. Coverage patterns include the original 40 x 30, 60 x 40, and 90 x 50. With the introduction of the PD6000 Series, an additional coverage pattern of 60 x 60 is now available. New to the PD Series are injection-molded rotatable waveguides which allowed JBL to provide a more cost-effective loudspeaker lineup. The mid-frequency 24 x 24-inch PT™ (Progressive Transition) waveguides provide excellent pattern control along with low distortion and extremely natural sound character. This is also the case with the 12 x 12-inch high-frequency PT waveguides. These rotatable waveguides provide the system designer the flexibility to utilize PD6000 models in either horizontal or vertical orientations.

In addition to the injection-molded waveguides and the new 60 x 60 coverage pattern, all compression drivers were upgraded to include JBL’s newest driver technologies, including the 2432H and 2453H. The PD6000 Series utilizes the CMCD-82H Cone Midrange Compression Driver (CMCD™). The CMCD-82H features JBL’s patented Differential Drive™ technology. All low-frequency drivers feature JBL VGC™ Vented Gap Cooling technology.

“These changes have provided JBL the opportunity to bring the PD6000 Series loudspeakers to market at a more competitive price point,” said Jon Sager, Senior Manager, Installed Sound, JBL Professional. “We are extremely sensitive to the needs of our customers and are pleased be able to provide system designers with new technologies, additional coverage pattern, at a more affordable cost.”

All of these high-power, compact PD6000 systems are voiced similarly to JBL’s PD700 and AE Series loudspeakers for commonality of sound character throughout an installation. All models are available in white (-WH) as well as WRC and WRX weather-resistant versions for installation in moderate to extreme outdoor environments. More information on the PD6000 Series can be found on the JBL Professional website: www.jbpro.com.

HARMAN’s BSS Audio introduces a cost effective addition to the Soundweb™ London Processor Line

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – HARMAN’s BSS Audio today announced the addition of a cost-effective signal processor to its acclaimed Soundweb™ London family of digital signal processors. The new Soundweb London BLU-50 represents a premium, open-architecture solution in the form of a highly flexible, cost-effective and scalable package.

The BLU-50 is a half-rack width processor that offers a fixed configuration of four inputs and four outputs, configurable signal processing, logic processing and BLU link. The device can be powered with the included 12VDC power supply but can accept 12-48VDC via a terminal block connector. The BLU-50 can also be powered with PoE+ via the Ethernet port, allowing the device to be powered, configured, controlled and monitored using a single Cat 5e cable.

The analog inputs of the BLU-50 provide software configurable gain in 6dB steps up to +48dB per channel and software selectable Phantom Power per channel. Phantom Power, Signal Present and Clip information per channel is easily accessible, without the requirement for a PC, from clear front panel LED indication.

The BLU-50 features BLU link, a low latency, fault tolerant digital audio bus of 48 channels, which uses standard Category 5e cabling giving a distance of 100m between compatible devices. Fiber media converters can be used to increase the distance between devices to over 10km (6.2 miles) using single mode fiber.

The BLU-50 is configured, controlled and monitored from HiQnet Audio Architect™ or HiQnet London Architect™ and is compatible with other members of the Soundweb London family. Its 48 channel BLU link bus represents channels 1-48 of the larger 256 channel BLU link bus when integrated with the BLU-800, BLU-320, BLU-160, BLU-120, BLU-BIB and BLU-BOB devices. Up to 60 BLU link compatible devices can share channels on a single bus.

As with other Soundweb London devices, 12 Control Inputs, six Logic Outputs and an RS-232 port allow the BLU-50 to be integrated with other compatible devices.

“With so much capability packed into such a small device, combined with its powering and mounting flexibility, the BLU-50 is the most versatile and affordable open-architecture processor we’ve created to date. The BLU-50 further extends the scalability of the Soundweb London platform and represents a major milestone in the broader applicability of open-architecture solutions,” stated, Iain Gregory, Market Manager for installed sound, HARMAN Signal Processing.

HARMAN’s JBL Commercial Introduces High-Value, High-Performance Amplifiers and Mixers at ISE 2014

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – At Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2014, HARMAN’s JBL Commercial is introducing six Commercial Series Amplifiers (CSA) and two Commercial Series Mixers (CSM) that combine outstanding value and performance.

The JBL Commercial power amplifiers and mixers making their ISE 2014 debut include the following:

• CSA2120Z amplifier, 2 channels, 120-watt power output per channel
• CSA280Z amplifier, 2 channels, 80-watt power output per channel
• CSA240Z amplifier, 2 channels, 40-watt power output per channel
• CSA1120Z amplifier, 1 channel, 120-watt power output
• CSA180Z amplifier, 1 channel, 80-watt power output
• CSA140Z amplifier, 1 channel, 40-watt power output
• CSM-28 mixer, 8 inputs, 2 outputs
• CSM-14 mixer, 4 inputs, 1 output

“Our new JBL Commercial CSA and CSM amplifiers and mixers fulfill the need for small, affordable, easy to use sound reinforcement components in places like restaurants, coffee shops, fitness facilities, bars and other spaces where an elaborate A/V installation isn’t required,” said Craig Lambrecht, Business Segment Manager, Amplifier Business Unit. “They’re designed and engineered to deliver plenty of power and flexibility along with exceptional sound and reliability.”

The CSA amplifiers incorporate HARMAN’s proprietary DriveCore amplifier IC, which combines what would be hundreds of conventional parts into a single chip smaller than a dime. DriveCore offers significantly reduced power consumption, size and weight while delivering outstanding sound quality. All CSA amps are just 1U rack space high and a half-rack wide. All models can operate into 8 ohm and 4 ohm loads and can be used with 70V and 100V distributed audio systems without the need for a separate transformer. A single amp channel (or 1 channel amplifier) can easily drive multiple speakers without the need for complex wiring and the amplifiers’ distributed audio capability simplifies adding volume controls to single- or multiple- speaker zones. All feature a universal power supply for international use and accept an Ethernet control cable for use with the JBL CSR-V wall-mount volume control.

JBL Commercial’s CSM mixers are perfect for background music, paging, security and other uses. Like the CSA amplifiers, the CSM models are simple to set up and use, with a minimum of front panel controls and illuminated rings around the knobs for easy visibility. All the mixers provide channel, master volume and independent bass and treble controls. The rear panel offers RCA inputs and Euro-block-type mic/line input and output connectors. All models feature priority muting, VOX ducking and mic phantom power and can be used with JBL’s CSR-V wall controller.

JBL Commercial components are manufactured under HARMAN JBL’s GreenEdge initiative, for increased energy efficiency and lighter weight while delivering top-quality performance. CSA amps and CSM mixers conform to lead-free RoHS standards, use recycled copper, aluminum and steel from factory processes and benefit from additional environmentally conscious manufacturing procedures.

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Fixtures Shine For Saddleback Church’s Powerful, Music-Inspired Services and Global Broadcasts

LAKE FOREST, California — With a flourishing network of worship facilities across southern California, internationally and via webcasts, the Saddleback Church, with a congregation of tens of thousand around the world, has grown accustom to the bold sermons from Pastor Rick Warren in an exciting atmosphere. Highlighted by a wide variety of HARMAN’s Martin Professional lighting fixtures, the church has developed a type of service that’s evolved from a single preacher on a stage to an all-encompassing music and light show experience. Flashing lights, passion-filled songs and roaring applause breaks are the norm for Saddleback.

Saddleback’s main worship center, out of the six in the Lake Forest, CA campus, boasts six MAC Viper Profiles and 18 Auras along the stage. The main worship center seats 3,000 members per service, averaging more than 17,000 worshipers per weekend. The additional worship areas on the Lake Forest campus range from 50-600 capacity limits, offering different takes on the Church’s sermon for the day, whether a more traditional service, hard rock, or other genre, to keep parishioners entertained and engaged. Each of the remote campuses features a wide variety of Martin fixtures as well.

In-house lighting designer Alex Fuller has played a large part in the implementation of Martin lighting fixtures into Saddleback Church. “We’re here to provide an experience for the community, not just a stage for your average worship service,” stated Fuller. “The Vipers perform perfectly once they’re up in our venues, and the Auras are workhorses that we can rely on week after week, without worry.”

A routine day of service in the main worship venue transitions between the band performing five to six songs, regular and guest speakers and videos playing. Two 24×13-foot screens flank the stage for an enhanced visual experience.

Recently, Saddleback has added satellite campuses in Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, and Berlin. In addition to creating delightful, custom light shows for each sermon and concert, the church broadcasts each service live to its congregation around the world. “Our worship center has become more of a broadcast room, with thousands of people both participating live and watching abroad,” says Greg Baker, Global Technical Director, Saddleback Church. “Lighting is a huge part of broadcast and the Martin fixtures allow us to provide top-notch quality over our high-definition broadcast channel every day. Martin translates very well on air and that’s something our remote members appreciate.”

“The support system Martin has developed for its customers has solidified my appreciation for its lights. I’m a Martin fan through and through,” continued Fuller. “Every type of fixture in the industry eventually will require service and Martin is on top of it immediately. We are never down and can always rely on Martin no matter what our worship services, in any part of the world need.”

Hitachi Projector Boosts Resident Involvement and Participation at Tara Woods Community

North Fort Myers, Florida, January 31, 2014 – As the central gathering area of the Tara Woods 55-and-older community in North Fort Myers, FL, the center’s clubhouse needs to provide a consistent projection source for all kinds of media. After a previous projector had failed, Wayne Cox’s experience in educational A/V led him to purchase a Hitachi CP-WX8265 projector for the community. The projector was purchased from Harmon’s Audio Visual in Fort Myers, FL.

“There are no window coverings in the clubhouse, so high brightness is a must,” said Mr. Cox, who is a member of a volunteer group called Sound and Lighting that sets up, operates and services all audio and video equipment for the community. “I’ve already received plenty of positive feedback from the community on the brightnesow s and clarity of images.”

The clubhouse seats several hundred and is used for movie nights, bingo and, most recently projected lyrics during the community’s Christmas Carol Sing-a-long.

“Attendance at our movie night has already increased because of the picture quality,” said Mr. Cox. “We are able to rely on the image quality even on the brightest days.”

Mr. Cox, now retired, used to work as the Technologies Manager at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He became familiar with Hitachi products during his time there, recognizing the projectors for their high resolution, brightness, contrast ratio, aspect ratio and connectivity.

The Hitachi CP-WX8265 3LCD projector features a brightness of 6,500 ANSI lumens and supports an aspect ratio of 16:10 WXGA.
