VIVID Lighting Solutions Chooses Reflection LEDko

(Wellington, Fla.)—Reflection LEDko by Coemar, the first LED profile delivering both Soft and Hard Edge profile optics, is the newest product to be added to the inventory at VIVID Lighting Solutions, a company that provides environmentally-friendly lighting products and solutions to Vancouver’s large corporate and event market. VIVID Lighting Solutions uses Reflection LEDko lighting in the design of feature events that range from full-stage concerts and intimate corporate galas to architectural and private rentals.

VIVID Lighting Solutions provides solely LED-based lighting products to create custom-tailored lighting designs that create visually stunning effects. Because VIVID Lighting Solutions works in the events industry, installations are almost always temporary. Since fixtures are being installed and taken down frequently, lighting options like Reflection LEDko and other LED lighting products that can handle being on the road and set up quickly and efficiently multiple times are a must.

“Our clients often seek out eco-friendly options, which is why we house an exclusive inventory of LED products,” said Philip Guhl, owner and lighting designer of VIVID Lighting Solutions. “Adding Coemar’s Reflection LEDko to our product offerings was a no brainer—the low heat makes it favorable in any environment and our clients love the low cost of printed custom images on overhead transparencies. Fitted with traditional ETC accessories, this is a fixture that VIVID Lighting Solutions will continue to promote for years.”

Reflection LEDko is a revolutionary new LED fixture and the first LED profile capable of projecting a soft-edged profile light with no reduction in light intensity due to additional filters. It is also the first LED profile that can be used in the same way as traditional profiles and can obtain any color, tone, shade and white light.

“We had already used Reflection LEDkos many times in the past with printed gobos of company logos and have had very satisfying results,” Guhl said. “We made Reflection LEDkos a permanent part of our inventory because we are always the first company in our region to carry the latest types of LED lighting, and we take pride in offering our clients the latest in technology and the best products for their needs.”

Applying the Reflection LED technology as a retrofit makes it possible to reduce energy consumption from 500-650 Watts to 150 Watts. The LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours without loss of brightness, thus eliminating maintenance costs associated with traditional profiles.

“We’re proud to supply VIVID Lighting Solutions with Reflection LEDko lighting solutions,” said Grif Palmer, vice president of sales for LED Source, the exclusive Coemar distributor in North America. “Reflection LEDko is both portable and environmentally-friendly, making it the perfect lighting product to suit VIVID Lighting Solution’s needs.”

Because LEDs do not emit heat, Reflection LEDko is capable of utilizing images or gobos created with any standard printer and a transparency sheet. This technology allows you to project any image such as a corporate logo quickly and without cost, while also eliminating the entire gobo buying process, which was previously dependant on glass or metal patterns.

Reflection LEDko is one fixture that can virtually eliminate or significantly reduce all costs related to lamps, dimmers, scrollers, gel filters, heat, cabling, electricity and manpower. All LEDko series fixtures feature electronic 16-bit dimming, flicker-free operation with DMX controllable LED frequency from 500 to 5000 Hz and a bi-directional DMX512.

LEDko Provides Energy-Efficient Lighting Solution to Green AV Professionals

(Wellington, Fla.)—Reflection LEDko by Coemar, the first LED profile delivering both Soft Profile and Hard Edge Profile using mix-and-match optics and state-of-the-art LED lighting technology, helps significantly reduce energy costs and environmental impact compared to traditional lighting sources used among the audiovisual (AV) industry. LED lighting is the most energy-efficient lighting solution currently available that is both fiscally smart and ecologically sound when compared to both Tungsten Halogen and Compact Fluorescent lighting (CFL). As “green” trends within the audiovisual industry continue to proliferate, Reflection LEDko – distributed exclusively in North America by international LED lighting supplier LED Source® – becomes an increasingly valuable solution for AV professionals.

Furthermore, Reflection LEDko is the only type of LED lighting that can obtain any color tone, shade and white light while being used in the same way as traditional profiles—making it the ideal “green” choice for a variety of audiovisual needs including sound, video lighting, display and projection systems.

“As the multibillion dollar audiovisual industry continues to build an increasing commitment to environmental responsibility, the future is with Reflection LEDko,” said Marcel Fairbairn, president and CEO of LED Source. “Applying the Reflection LED technology as a retrofit makes it possible to reduce energy consumption from 500-650 Watts to 150 Watts, saving enormous amounts of energy and money. The LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours without any loss of brightness, thus eliminating maintenance costs associated with traditional lighting profiles.”

Because LEDs emit virtually no heat, Reflection LEDko is capable of utilizing images or gobos created with any standard printer and a transparency sheet. This technology allows you to project any image such as a corporate logo quickly and without cost, while also eliminating the entire gobo buying process, which was previously dependent on glass and metal patterns.
Reflection LEDko is one fixture that can eliminate or significantly reduce all costs related to lamps, dimmers, scrollers, gel filters, heat, cabling, electricity and manpower. All LEDko series fixtures feature electronic 16-bit dimming, flicker-free operation with DMX controllable LED frequency from 500 to 5000 Hz and a bi-directional DMX512.

Christien Methot, the principal lighting designer for Design One Corporation, is the head lighting designer for all NASDAQ broadcast facilities in Times Square. Methot replaced the aging Tungsten Halogen and Compact Fluorescent lighting in the NASDAQ facilities with Reflection LEDko lighting technology to reduce maintenance costs.

“Once we installed and focused the LEDko lighting, I was amazed at the brightness and the even beam of the PC lens,” Methot said. “The LEDko fixtures mixed with a few other LED products have finally brought my client’s facilities into the 21st century.”

Reflection LEDko is assembled conforming to the ISO 14001’s (International Organization for Standardization) environmental management system requirements and operates in respect to the OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services) standards for occupational health and safety management systems. This ultimately creates a higher efficiency of the system overall, greatly reducing the impact on the environment.

LED Source® and Coemar Team Up to Award $20,000 in LED Lighting to One Lucky Theater for the LEDko Challenge

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) of Ohio was named the grand prize winner Jan. 31 of the LED Source® and Coemar LEDko Challenge, and will receive a complete LED lighting makeover worth $20,000. CSC was chosen among dozens of staging, education, studio, installation, and theater professionals throughout North America who participated in the contest by submitting a video of their lackluster lighting systems to be considered for a complete LED lighting upgrade. As the grand prize winner, CSC—which employs a resident ensemble of actors that put on nine main stage productions seen by more than 25,000 audience members each year—will have their aging, energy-draining stage lighting replaced with eight Reflection LEDko fixtures by Coemar, the sponsor of the contest.

The LEDko Challenge, which launched in October 2011, was created by LED Source in celebration of the launch of the new Reflection LEDko series by Italy-based Coemar—a world leader in lighting for the entertainment industry. As the exclusive distributor of Coemar LED products in North America, LED Source wanted to get the word out about the launch and award a deserving organization with the latest in LED profile technology.

“Although we received several outstanding video submissions, the group at CSC went above and beyond,” says Marcel Fairbairn, president and CEO of LED Source. “We can’t wait to deliver the new Reflection LEDko fixtures this month and show what a difference the right lighting can make in this setting.”

CSC was chosen as the winner among the top five finalists for their submission of a creative and humorous video demonstrating their “ancient” lighting system, which theater employees said often caused blackouts and delays during rehearsals and performances.

“Our current lights are basically the SUV’s of the lighting world,” said Brian Phillips, producing artistic director of the CSC. “We are so grateful for this opportunity, as it will change our lives and our art in a profound and meaningful way. The unique challenges of our theater space make CSC, LED Source and Coemar a perfect fit.”
Finalists were selected by a panel of experts made up of both LED Source and Coemar senior management, and the grand prize winner was chosen by fans on the Reflection LEDko Facebook page through a voting process. As the contest winner, power outages and outdated stage lighting will be a thing of the past for CSC, which has been producing classic Shakespeare performances since 1993 and educates more than 20,000 theater students annually through its educational outreach programs. LED lighting will allow CSC, which produces classic multi-scene adventure plays, to seamlessly transition from a battle scene to a banquet in the blink of an eye.

Reflection LEDko is a revolutionary new LED fixture and the first LED profile delivering both Soft Profile and Hard Edge Profile using mix and match optics. With this new technology, Coemar has created the first LED profile capable of projecting soft-edged profile light that can be used in the same way as traditional profiles and can obtain any color tone, shade and white light.

Applying the Reflection LED technology as a retrofit makes it possible to reduce energy consumption from 500-650 Watts to 150 Watts. The LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours without loss of brightness, thus eliminating maintenance costs associated with traditional profiles.

Because LEDs do not emit heat, Reflection LEDko is capable of utilizing images or gobos created with any standard printer and a transparency sheet. This technology allows users to project any image quickly and without cost, while also eliminating the entire gobo buying process, which was previously dependant on glass or metal patterns.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide the CSC with the revolutionary Reflection LEDko LED profile fixtures, which enhance the stage experience by providing an energy and space-efficient lighting solution,” said Fausto Orsatti, vice president of sales and marketing at Coemar. “LED lighting will allow for more lighting versatility and no dimmers, resulting in a more streamlined stage production.”

The Reflection LEDko fixtures will debut on the CSC stage in time for either the late winter production of “Sense and Sensibility” or an early spring performance of “The Grapes of Wrath.” This is CSC’s first lighting upgrade in five years.

CenterStage Productions Chooses Reflection LEDko

(Wellington, Fla.)—For Chicago based lighting design and production services company CenterStage Productions, finding the right fixture to replace Source Four® ellipsoidals with color scrollers and dimmers was imperative to meet the requirements of budget demanding clients. Reflection LEDko by Coemar, the first LED profile delivering both Soft and Hard Edge profile optics, proved to be a natural fit in meeting these goals.
Experienced production designers Bruce Holland and Olivier Ilisca founded CenterStage Productions in 1996. The company provides the corporate theater market with superior quality, dynamic and exciting designs at events across the U.S. and around the world.
“I’ve been waiting a couple years now for an LED unit that could replace our Source Four ellipsoidal fixtures with scrollers,” said Ilisca. “For smaller scale shows with lower ceilings and a limited budget, the Reflection LEDko is the perfect choice. With its vivid colors, bright beams and no scrollers, the LEDko FullSpectrum was able to keep up with our overall lighting levels.”
Reflection LEDko is a revolutionary new LED fixture and the first LED profile capable of projecting soft-edged profile light with no reduction in light intensity due to additional filters. It is also the first LED profile that can be used in the same way as traditional profiles and can obtain any color tone, shade and white light.
“At a recent corporate financial conference in California, we used 20 Reflection LEDko FullSpectrum fixtures and were very happy with their performance. Not one of the units failed and we were able to provide various scenic lighting without the need for scrollers, which is a great alternative to expensive moving lights with shutters,” concluded Ilisca.
CenterStage Productions approached LED Source®, an international LED lighting supplier and the exclusive distributor of Coemar LED products in North America, to spec an event after hearing about the new Reflection LEDko. “This was the perfect solution to meet their specific design requirements,” said Jerry Mitchell, Coemar Sales Manager at LED Source. “In the past, using technology such as the traditional Source Four profile with scrollers, required multiple dimmers and long setup times. They were also bulky and cumbersome with multiple parts leading to more possible failures. By changing to the LEDkos, we eliminated the noisy scrollers, the power supplies, and extra gear translating to a smaller truck pack and fast setup.”
Applying the Reflection LED technology makes it possible to reduce energy consumption from 575-750 Watts to 150 Watts. The LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours without loss of brightness, thus no maintenance costs.
Reflection LEDko is one fixture that can remove or significantly reduce all costs related to lamps, dimmers, scrollers, gel filters, heat, cabling, electricity and manpower. All LEDko series fixtures (FullSpectrum, VariWhite and White 3200K) feature electronic 16-bit dimming, flicker-free operation with DMX controllable LED frequency from 500 to 5000 Hz and a bi-directional DMX512.

LED Lighting Shines in Newly Renovated Starbucks in Times Square

LEDs light up Starbucks in Times Square. Photo Credit: Juan Pablo Lira

Three distinct companies came together recently to share their expertise and take part in the renovation of Starbucks’ new flagship location in the heart of New York City’s Time Square Theatre District. Looking to build a store that incorporates distinct design elements from the surrounding neighborhood, Starbucks turned to New York-based Focus Lighting, an award winning architectural lighting design firm. In understanding Starbucks’ objectives, Focus Lighting knew LED lighting would meet their needs best and called upon Wellington, Fla.-based LED Source®, an international supplier of LED lighting that specializes in full-scale evaluations and retrofits.

“LEDs are the most energy efficient lighting solution on the market,” said Joe Zamore, vice president of business development for LED Source. “They cut costs on energy bills and maintenance fees, while still offering brilliant, functional lighting.”

Anticipated to be one of the coffee giant’s busiest stores, Starbucks Time Square has a distinctive design that has been inspired by images of old Broadway and is a testament to the rich history of the area’s Theatre District.

Staying true to Starbuck’s new “neighborhood concept design” program, Focus Lighting lit the new store as if it were a theater stage set, reminiscent of old Broadway in appearance. Signature theatrical elements including Fresnel lighting fixtures, equipped with LED lamps and barn doors, are mounted on triangular trusses. The energy-efficient LED accent lighting is integrated into the shelving and canopy. Additionally, the Starbucks letters inside the store have been backlit to create a warm glow.

To generate this look, renowned lighting designers Paul Gregory, Brett Andersen and Joshua Spitzig from Focus Lighting worked with LED Source to utilize the latest generation in LED lamps from Toshiba, one of the largest lighting companies in the world.

“The Starbucks Times Square location is a true showcase for world-class design, and Toshiba is proud to be part of enhancing the Starbucks customer experience,” said Ken Honeycutt, senior vice president and the chief venture executive for Toshiba International Corporation’s LED Lighting Systems Division. “We are extremely proud that Focus Lighting and LED Source selected Toshiba LED lamps. It is truly an honor to illuminate such a prestigious location for Starbucks – bathing the interior with beautiful lighting while reducing energy and maintenance costs.”

Since Starbucks initiated their own Energy Conservation program, each of their stores has set out to reduce their energy consumption by 25 percent by 2015. Starbucks Times Square meets the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® certification program.
The store utilizes 73 Toshiba LED PAR30 lamps at 16.3 Watts and 55 Toshiba LED MR16 lamps at 6.7 Watts throughout the space.

“Toshiba’s PAR30 lamps last on average 25 times longer than traditional bulbs and use up to 75 percent less energy than halogens, while the LED MR16 lamps last up to 20 times longer and use up to 80 percent less energy than halogens,” Zamore said. “Each of the bulbs contain no mercury or lead and emit up to 70 percent less UV light compared to halogens.”

The products chosen also aligned with the design goals. “The PAR30 lamps were perfect in trying to create an image of old Broadway. The delicacy of our aiming will stay for years to come because of the low maintenance cycle of this lamp,” said Paul Gregory, president of Focus Lighting.

TAKE THE LEDko CHALLENGE: LED SOURCE® HOSTS LED LIGHTING CONTEST

(Wellington, Fla.)—How badly do you need to update your profile? That’s what international LED lighting supplier LED Source® is asking all staging, studio, installation and corporate theater professionals throughout North America. In celebration of the launch of the new Reflection LEDko series by Italy-based Coemar – a world leader in lighting for the entertainment industry – LED Source will award one lucky winner with a Reflection LEDko LED lighting package worth over $20,000.

“It is amazing to see how many lighting systems are in need of a lighting makeover,” says Dean Ernst, director of marketing for LED Source. “Many are out of date and consume enormous amounts of energy. With the advancements in LED lighting technology over the years and the introduction of Reflection LEDko, traditional profiles can now be replaced. This LED fixture not only lowers maintenance and energy costs, it eliminates the need for dimmers and scrollers. We are offering this contest as a way to help out those most in need of a lighting upgrade and to create awareness about the new Reflection LEDko series.”

Participants are asked to submit a video of their lighting system that is in dire need of help. It should be fun and creative and show their current lighting problems and why they should to win. All entries must be posted on the Reflection LEDko Facebook Contest page at Facebook.com/reflectionledko by Dec. 2. A panel of experts made up of both LED Source and Coemar senior management will then pick five finalists. Fans of the Reflection LEDko Facebook page will then vote for a grand prize winner that will be announced on Dec. 15. The entry with the most votes will win a package of eight Reflection LEDko fixtures with either hard or soft edge optics included.

Reflection LEDko is a revolutionary new LED fixture and the first LED profile delivering both Soft Profile and Hard Edge Profile using mix and match optics. With this new technology, Coemar has created the first LED profile capable of projecting soft-edged profile light with no reduction in light intensity due to additional filters. It is also the first LED profile that can be used in the same way as traditional profiles and can obtain any color tone, shade and white light.

“This contest is open to lighting companies, end users, theaters, and pretty much anyone who uses advanced lighting packages and needs a major update,” Ernst says.

To see the Reflection LEDko in person and learn more about the contest, interested parties can visit LED Source in booth No. 1660 at this year’s Live Design International (LDI) tradeshow and conference being held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. from Oct. 24 thru Oct. 30.

The LEDko Challenge closes at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Dec. 2, at which time no further submissions will be accepted. The top five video submissions most in need of a lighting upgrade will be announced on Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. EDT. The final five contestants’ videos will then be posted on the Facebook Reflection LEDko page for fans to vote on the winner in a one-week long poll. The winner will be announced on Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. EDT.
