Kensington Addresses the Challenges of Securing Enterprise BYOD with Its Industry-Leading Physical Security Solutions; more than 132 Million Feet of Computer Locks Sold

Kensington_logo_smallfor_newmedia

Leading Analyst Paper Validates the Need for Security Locks as First-Line-of-Defense in Overall Security Strategy

Redwood Shores, CA, February 3, 2015 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, today announced it has sold more than 132 million feet of computer locks, enough to stretch around the world. In September, the company revealed it had sold 20 million units of its comprehensive family of security products for mobile devices and PCs, a figure representing a 70 percent market share. As the trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) continues to build momentum, Kensington is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing concern around computing and security issues.

Research shows that the BYOD phenomenon continues to grow. In a recent IDC survey of U.S-based IT buyers, fully one-third said their company had already instituted a formal BYOD policy, and another 19 percent said they expected to institute a formal policy in the near term. The survey also revealed that informal support is notably higher and that while BYOD comes with many positive features, it poses daunting security challenges for even the best IT organizations.

In a recently published Analyst Connection, “The Role of Physical Security in a BYOD World,” (January 2015) IDC addresses the proliferation of BYOD and the role that physical security plays in an overall security strategy. IT departments are expected to secure a variety of notebooks and desktops, as well as phones and tablets running a wide range of operating systems. Left to their own devices, many people fail to follow even the most simple and straightforward security measures. As mobile devices proliferate, IDC expects physical security, such as device locking mechanisms, to become equally important in this domain. The paper, available on Kensington’s web site at kensington.com/IDCBYOD, outlines available solutions and best practices for implementing physical security.

“With more than two decades of experience providing security products, Kensington has a keen understanding of the first-line-of-defense requirements for protecting laptops, tablets and smartphones,” said Louie Yao, Global Product Marketing Manager, Kensington. “The demand for physical security and BYOD security peace-of-mind will only continue to grow for devices and the data they store. BYOD is becoming increasingly prevalent, as are the heightened number of data breaches among industry-leading brands. We continue to lead innovation in this market, most recently with the introduction of the new MiniSaver Mobile Lock, the thinnest security lock for Ultrabooks and tablets, and the new patented Cleat Locking Design. Kensington will continue to build on what has become known as the industry standard for physical security.”

Kensington is the market leader in locking-slot specifications, locking technology and physical device locks. With more than 20 million security locks sold and integrated into over 1 billion notebooks, projectors and tablets since 1990, Kensington is the de facto standard in security slot technology. For more than 20 years, Kensington has delivered security products to businesses, large and small, including leading retailers, telecommunications companies, health providers and global financial institutions — as well as the technology manufacturers that supply them.

Over its history, Kensington has delivered security products that are compatible with nearly every major device manufacturer — including Dell®, HP®, Lenovo®, Toshiba®, and Samsung®. In fact, 95 percent of all business laptops, incorporate the Kensington Security Slot.

Kensington Unveils Industry’s Thinnest Security Lock Design for Ultrabooks and Tablets

New MiniSaver™ Mobile Lock Features Patented Cleat™ Locking Design for BYOD Security Peace-of-Mind

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 6, 2015 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, today announced the MiniSaver Mobile Lock, the industry’s thinnest security lock system with the Kensington mini security slot technologyfor use on ultra-thin mobile devices including Ultrabooks and tablets. Featuring a new patented Cleat locking design with an incomparably small attach point, the MiniSaver delivers professional-grade strength to resist pulls and tampering in a space that is as small as a micro USB connector or audio jack.

The new MiniSaver has been developed to address the increasing security needs of mobile-device users in the workplace. According to IDC, as many as 155 million smartphones and almost four million tablets will be leveraged for business purposes in 2014[1]. Further underscoring BYOD demand, as many as 53 percent of information workers today use three or more devices[2].

“Today’s increasingly mobile workforce is creating more demand than ever for ultra-thin devices and those devices need protection to prevent the mounting risk of theft and resulting data breaches,” said Judy Barker, Global Product Manager, Kensington. “The first-line-of-defense provided by physical security locks can stave off device theft and save businesses and their employees from the costly exposure of a data breach. With our revolutionary MiniSaver design, now protection is not only easy but sleek and convenient as well.”

The MiniSaver Mobile Lock is a highly versatile security solution for on-the-go professionals who use ultra-thin, lightweight devices and need protection in the office, or while working on the road and in public places. Key features include:

  • Cleat locking technology – featuring retracting “claws” which grab on to the internal sides of the security slot, the MiniSaver creates a strong connection between the device shell and the lock.
  • Off-body lock – using a groundbreaking design, the MiniSaver moves the main lock housing away from the device for improved flexibility which prevents interference with surrounding ports and jacks used for other accessories.
  • One-handed operation – A simple push-button action with a single hand can engage the lock securely inside the security slot.
  • Cut-resistant cable – An engineered carbon steel and protective plastic sheath give the MiniSaver the cut-resistance and theft-resistance of much thicker cables while delivering easier mobility.
  • Pivot and rotate cable – supporting a special hinge the MiniSaver creates great freedom of movement and eliminates awkward angles so that the key may be easily inserted.

“With the MiniSaver, Kensington is upping the game for physical security for even the thinnest of today’s mobile devices,” said Jan Solar, Worldwide Marketing and Portfolio Management, Lenovo. “By taking the company’s decades of security lock expertise and applying it to address the new demands of today’s thin, lightweight devices, Kensington is changing the shape of secure mobile computing.”

Kensington is the market leader in locking-slot specifications, locking technology and physical device locks. With more than 20 million security locks sold and integrated into over one billion notebooks, projectors and tablets since 1990, Kensington is the de facto standard in security slot technology.

New Innovative Products and More Award-Winning Solutions Will Be Showcased at ShowStoppers @ CES 2015

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., December 29, 2014 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, announced today that it will introduce several innovative new products at ShowStoppers @ CES 2015 on January 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The new products augment Kensington’s family of solutions designed to protect ultra-thin computing devices, and deliver greater versatility to mobile users and at the desktop. In addition, Kensington will showcase a variety of its award-winning products at CES ShowStoppers table F15 at The Wynn, as well as the Da Vinci II Ballroom at the Bellagio Hotel, January 6-8.

“We are excited to present these new products at ShowStoppers as they represent both our design engineering expertise and the customer feedback we take into account when developing products,” said Amy Turpie, Marketing Communications Manager, Kensington. “With the new solutions, we’ve addressed the security and data protection concerns for mobile devices as they get smaller and more compact. In addition, the new products give users greater flexibility and increased productivity through power management, and more efficiency when using multiple devices when on the road or in the office.”

The new products will be announced on January 6, 2015: http://www.kensington.com/us/us/3699/news-press-center.

More Kensington products on display at ShowStoppers and The Bellagio include:

  • Trapper Keeper and Pee-Chee Tablet Cases: Kensington has brought these iconic themes back with a modern twist for today’s tablet user. The Mead-inspired cases are designed with the images that are now synonymous with students and academics from the 1980s — from sporty athletic patterns to colorful floral and artistic prints. The universal folio provides overall protection for assorted 7” and 10” tablet models. As students rapidly adopt digital tools to complement the customary pen and paper, these cases make a perfect companion for tablets used in educational environments. Built to keep a slim profile, the case is easy to carry along with school books and slip into a backpack. A secure magnetic flap and versatile 4-corner silicone base keep the tablet snug for protection, but also allow for easy removal if needed.
  • SafeGrip™ Rugged Carry Case and Stand: Wrapping the iPad Air in a tough, padded case complete with screen protection, the SafeGrip Rugged Carry Case and Stand can withstand drops, bumps and scratches, whether being used by kids in the classroom or mobile professional. A thick, sturdy handle is perfect to help prevent drops, and also functions as a two-position stand. The built-in stylus holder means fewer fingers on the iPad Air Retina display, and less chance of spreading germs during the cold and flu season.
  • BlackBelt™ Rugged Case: The Kensington BlackBelt Series of rugged cases offers military-grade tablet protection in three degrees to cover a variety of needs, so the iPad Air or iPad mini can be used in rough environments without fear. Every model features a tough, yet lightweight band that surrounds the tablet and was designed to meet the U.S. military’s MIL-STD-810 testing protocols for all-around defense against drops and scratches. Because the iPad’s curves are particularly vulnerable to damage, the cases offer extra thick corner protection. A raised bezel preserves the iPad screen, and a clear back protector provides additional insurance against scratches. The 1st and 2nd degree cases preserve access to all iPad Air or iPad mini ports, controls and cameras, making charging and syncing easy. The 3rd degree case utilizes port covers to protect the tablet from dust and debris.
  • 48W 4-Port USB Charger: Kensington’s 48W 4-Port USB Charger allows users to power up to four tablets and smartphones on their desk at the same time using PowerWhiz™ Technology. This technology allows almost any device to be plugged into the charger because it automatically recognizes a device and gives it the fastest charge possible while remaining completely circuit safe. Users can mix and match any combination of devices into any of the four USB ports, and each port can carry up to 2.4 AMPs of power to ensure that even tablets get a speedy charge. Additionally, the charger only needs a single wall socket to charge device batteries.

In addition to showcasing its products, Kensington will host a Happy Hour on January 6 and 7 at the Da Vinci II Ballroom, 5-6 p.m. Guests are invited to come by Kensington’s “SecureBack Bar” for a beverage, followed by a swing with a golf club simulator for a chance to win prizes.

Kensington Survey Data Reveals that 73% of Organizations Say BYOD Creates Greater Security Risks

Industry Study Finds that 55% of Enterprises Plan to Implement Physical Security Locks for Laptops, Notebooks and Mobile Devices in 2015

Kensington_logo_Twitter

Redwood Shores, CA, November 11, 2014– Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, today announced findings from a North American survey on the security risks created by bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies in the enterprise. Findings show 73 percent say that BYOD represents greater security risks for their organization, and yet 59 percent still approve the use of personal devices for business usage.

According to MarketsandMarkets, a leading research and consulting firm, has completed a new global market forecast for BYOD and enterprise mobility. The firm projects the BYOD market to nearly quadruple in size over the next four years. Currently valued at $72 billion, MarketsandMarkets expects annual growth of 26.6 percent for a projected value of $284 billion by 20191.

The survey – summarized in a new infographic at Kensington.comwhich was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2014, found that across multiple B2B vertical industries – including Education, Healthcare, Financial Services, Retail and Manufacturing – CEOs, CIOs, CSO, and IT professionals are significantly concerned with how BYOD is impacting the security of their enterprise environments. To address these concerns a number of physical security measures are being leveraged with varying adoption and as many as 55 percent report that they are considering further investments in this security area.

Among the physical security measures being used, the simplicity of using device locking mechanisms is among the most cost effective and reliable solutions an organization can put in place.

Physical security measures in use by survey respondents included:

  • 64 percent use employee training and guidelines
  • 61 percent use anti-malware and encryption
  • 55 percent have employed compliance and governance policies
  • 48 percent use data loss prevention and authentication solutions

“With the rapid rise in the use of BYOD mobile devices and laptops, organizations need to consider protecting their employees devices with physical security locks to protect them from the risk of theft and putting critical business and personal data into the wrong hands,” said Judy Barker, Global Product Marketing Manager, Kensington.  “By employing simple and secure device locking products, organizations can safeguard their data and mobile assets with an added layer of protection”

Kensington invented the first lock more than 20 years ago, and consistently introduces new, innovative products and solutions designed to protect organizations’ most vital assets — computing devices and confidential data. Kensington’s patented slot designs are integrated into over 20 million leading computing devices including Dell®, HP® and Lenovo® for an additional layer of physical security for enterprises worldwide. Kensington’s family of physical security accessories, including ClickSafe®, MicroSaver®, SecureBack, Desktop and Peripherals locking kit, and the industry standard Kensington Security Slot, is designed to address the escalating demand for protection against loss of devices and data.

Kensington’s Master Key Solutions remove the worry of financial data loss by ensuring a more secure office environment to minimize risk and maximize profit. Master Access Solutions offer more control

over equipment while safeguarding employees from laptop and data theft. Individuals are allowed access to their own devices, while the IT manager has control of all of the equipment and data.

Kensington Introduces PresentAir Pro Bluetooth 4.0 LE for Greater Versatility in Presentation Delivery

Presenter Features Advanced Wireless Technology, Customizable Modes of Functionality, and Slim Design for User Flexibility and Productivity

Kensington Twitter logoRedwood Shores, CA, October 29, 2014 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, announced today the availability of its PresentAir Pro Bluetooth® 4.0 LE Presenter for versatile presentation delivery and improved productivity. Featuring the latest in wireless technology, the advanced presenter offers three different function modes to support different types of activity — presenting, controlling media, or editing — and offers one of the slimmest presenter designs on the market. The free downloadable companion app, PresenterWorks, allows users to set buttons to the functions of their choice for greater flexibility and efficiency.

Key features of the Kensington PresentAir Pro Bluetooth 4.0 LE Presenter include:

  • Bluetooth 4.0 LE Technology — The latest in wireless innovation, this low-energy pairing between the user’s device and presenter frees up a valuable USB port — a shrinking feature with increasingly thin laptops and mobile devices — and offers a range of up to 30 feet so the user can move freely during a presentation.
  • Three Modes/PresenterWorks App — Buttons on the presenter can be set to two predetermined modes, and a third mode that enables user customization. In Presenter Mode, users may choose among specific profiles to suit the individual’s requirements for navigating within presentations. While in Media Mode, PresentAir Pro can be used as a remote for volume or playlist controls, allowing for dynamic content delivery, such as video clips, on the fly. Custom Mode offers a wide range of commonly used commands users can set the buttons to perform. The free PresenterWorks app, which will be available for download from Google Play, Windows® Store, or App Store®, delivers even more customizable options.
  • Ultra-Slim Design — The presenter’s thin profile makes it extremely light and easy to hold, as well as convenient for a shirt pocket or the pen/stylus holder found in many business folios or briefcases.
  • Red Laser Pointer — Users can accentuate presentation material with a bright red laser that highlights any part of a presentation with complete effectiveness.
  • Touch-Activated Stylus — Compatible with all major tablets and smartphones, holding the metal enclosure turns the presenter into a fully functional stylus to navigate around device touchscreens.
  • Carrying Case — A convenient place to store the presenter when not in use, keeping it protected with a soft internal lining that prevents scratching.
  • Compatability — The presenter is compatible with Android 4.4 and above, Windows® 8.1 and above, and iOS 8 and above running Microsoft® PowerPoint.

“While the proliferation of ultrabooks and tablets is on the rise in business, they come with limitations — less USB ports, which confines expansion capabilities, and limited video ports, which restricts presentation options,” said Louie Yao, Global Product Manager at Kensington. “We’ve designed the PresentAir Pro to offset these limitations, giving users expanded flexibility for presentation delivery with the next generation of computing devices, as well as unparalleled customization capabilities that give users more control over how they use the presenter to be as productive as possible.”

The PresentAir Pro is available for pre-order today and will be generally available in November 2014. The PresenterWorks App will be available for download from Google Play, Windows Store, and App Store.

Kensington Launches USB 3.0 Hubs and Adapters, 4-Port USB Charger, and New Universal Soft Sleeves

New Products Line-Up Delivers Power, Flexibility and Style

Kensington Twitter logo

Redwood Shores, CA, October 29, 2014 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, today announced the launch of its USB 3.0 Hubs and Adapters family, its 48W 4-Port USB Charger, and two new Universal Soft Sleeves.

The company’s update from its previous USB 2.0 connectivity line to the faster USB 3.0 addresses industry trends marked by slimmer laptops with fewer ports and wires; a plethora of USB equipment to connect, charge, and sync; and increased use of mobile devices. Additionally, the update includes a new 7-port USB hub and the ability to charge mobile devices.

“With more than 2 billion USB 3.0 devices projected to be in the market by 2015, as well as 100 percent penetration by native 3.0 computers, there is a lot more digital data to transfer like photos, music, and video and more devices to connect,” said Greg Agustin, Global Product Manager, Kensington. “Our USB 3.0 hubs and adapters take care of this significant trend, by providing transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 and more interfaces to connect.”

And, with the launch of the new 48W 4-Port USB Charger, Kensington introduces a true universal desk charging solution. With PowerWhiz technology, the charger automatically detects a device and its specific power needs, creating the correct “handshake” between the device, USB cable, and charging port to deliver a fast and safe charge.

“With 4 in 10 smartphone users having a second mobile device, there’s an increasing need to charge multiple mobile devices simultaneously from the same location,” said Louie Yao, Global Product Manager, Kensington. “The 48W 4-Port USB Charger is the most powerful and compact 4-port USB charger in the market, offering a full-speed charge for each device simultaneously.”

Kensington’s new lineup of USB 3.0 Hubs and Adapters includes:

USB 3.0 4-Port Hub, Model UH4000 — With USB ports on laptops becoming a precious commodity, an external hub can be the answer to optimizing productivity and helping to expand a device’s capabilities. The 4-Port Hub ensures that users can connect all of their USB peripheral desktop accessories, with each of the four ports supporting fast transfer speeds.

USB 3.0 4-Port Hub plus Charging, Model UH4000C — The UH4000C offers the same benefits found in the standard 4-Port Hub, but each of the four ports also double as chargers for mobile devices, providing a convenient way to plug in and keep device batteries topped-off. With 3 AMPs available, users can choose any of the ports to provide a fast charge for a tablet and a smartphone, or other combination of low-power devices. Charging ports are compliant with USB BC 1.2 standard and compatible with BC 1.2 devices such as iPad Air and iPad mini. (Users should check their device specs.)

USB 3.0 7-Port Hub plus Charging, Model UH7000C — This 7-Port Hub and Charger ensures that users can connect all of their peripheral desktop accessories to a laptop, as well as quickly charge their smartphone or tablet. Each of the seven ports can support USB 3.0 transfer speeds to allow for more efficient work. The ports also double as chargers with 4 AMPs available, allowing for use of any port to provide a fast charge for up to two tablets, a tablet and a smartphone, or any other combination of low-power devices.

USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter, Model UA0000E — Many newer laptops do not come with an Ethernet port, leaving users only WiFi to get connected to the Internet. This Ethernet Adapter provides a wired connectivity option with extremely fast Gigabit Ethernet transfer speeds where wireless access isn’t available or if a user has a broken internal network card.

USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter plus 3-Port Hub, Model UA3000E — The UA3000E offers the same benefits found in the standard Ethernet Adapter, but also includes three USB 3.0 ports for additional device expansion.

Each of the five new USB 3.0 Hubs and Adapters also offers the following features:

  • Lightning-fast, gigabit transfer speeds. Using USB 3.0 technology, the 4-Port and 7-Port hubs support transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0. The Ethernet Adapters offer gigabit transfer speeds (also 10 times faster than USB 2.0) and provide an RJ-45 connector that supports 10/100/1000 BASE-T performance.
  • Plug and play operation. The 4-port and 7-port hubs allow users to simply plug the expansion hub into their device, with no need for an additional power source or driver downloads. The Ethernet Adapters require a one-time driver download via WiFi and subsequent installation, and then can be plugged into devices, ready to go.
  • Near universal acceptance. The adapters are all compatible with devices running Windows® 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP and Mac OS® X 10.6 or later operating systems.

Kensington’s 48W 4-Port USB Charger allows users to power up to four tablets and smartphones on their desk at the same time using PowerWhiz Technology. This technology allows almost any device to be plugged into the charger because it automatically recognizes a device and gives it the fastest charge possible while remaining completely circuit safe. Users can mix and match any combination of devices into any of the four USB ports, and each port can carry up to 2.4 AMPs of power to ensure even tablets get a speedy charge. Additionally, the charger only needs a single wall socket to charge device batteries.

The USB 3.0 Hubs and Adapters are available for pre-order today and will be generally available by the end of October. The 48W 4-Port USB Charger is also available for pre-order and will be generally available in November.

Kensington is also launching two new Universal Soft Sleeves that will allow customers to carry their device(s) in style, comfort and ease. Available in both 11” and 14” sizes, the new Universal Soft Sleeves respond to the growing popularity of Chromebook and MacBook Air as go-to essentials for mobile business professionals. The Kensington Universal Sleeves offer the perfect complement to help carry laptops or tablets, providing a soft layer of protection, with interior fleece lining for an added level of protection against scratches and dings, a reinforced carry handle for easy holding, and an exterior pocket for the convenient storage of accessories.

Kensington Tablet Cases Make Holiday Shopping a Snap

From rugged protection to extreme personalization, Kensington tablet cases have it all, and at budget-friendly prices

Kensington Twitter logo

Redwood Shores, CA, October 8, 2014 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, offers a host of tablet cases that ease holiday shopping in a world that is always wired, from classroom, to dining room, to boardroom. Kensington tablet cases address a variety of needs, including rugged protection, power consumption and savings, personalization, ergonomics, and convenience. Ranging from $14.99 to $99.99, the cases deliver value at budget-friendly prices.

You’ve seen the designs before. And now they’re available in a cool, lightweight case for tablets. Kensington is drawing on its nostalgic past to create a case for today with the new Mead-inspired universal cases for 9-inch and 10-inch tablets. The soft, lightweight case offers secure protection for devices through the Silicone 4-Corner Base, which uses stay straps that come up and over the corners of the tablet. The inside cover has a soft interior lining that prevents the screen from getting scratched or damaged and a magnetic flap keeps the folio securely closed. The cover can be opened or folded into an upright or low-angle triangle stand so you can select the ideal position for watching videos, typing emails or web browsing.

The iPad Air has redefined the look and feel of what a thin, lightweight tablet should look and feel like. Now Kensington is doing the same for ultra-thin keyboard cases with the KeyFolio Thin X3 for iPad Air. The X3 features a breakthrough in innovation. PowerLift allows you to tap into the keyboard’s internal battery and charge your phone using its USB cable. A sleek and form-fitting, hard-shell exterior surrounds the tablet with protection while maintaining its thin profile. When the KeyFolio Thin X3 is opened, it reveals an integrated Bluetooth® keyboard that features six rows of high-performance scissor keys, including a row of dedicated shortcut keys, allowing you to be more productive using fewer keystrokes. The unique QuickFold design allows you to hide the keyboard beneath the iPad Air so you can quickly and easily transition from typing mode to viewing mode. The KeySense Power Channel automatically turns the keyboard on and off when it’s engaged or disengaged from the magnetic stand, helping conserve battery life.

With so many 10-inch tablets available in the market, finding a keyboard case that’s versatile enough to fit all the slight dimension changes is more important than ever. That’s why we developed the KeyFolio Fit for tablets running Android. A silicone four-corner base uses stay straps to securely keep the tablet in place. But the most exciting feature has to be TapLaunch available on the Android model, which lets you easily customize three shortcut keys so you can quickly start your favorite apps straight from your keyboard. And speaking of the keyboard, it’s integrated right into the case and pairs fast to your tablet through a Bluetooth® connection. With six rows of high-performance scissor keys, you can type with optimal productivity. A soft interior lining keeps your tablet protected from scratches and damage, and a magnetic flap keeps the case securely closed when you’re on the go.

  • BlackBelt 2nd Degree Rugged Case for iPad Air (Black – K97065WW), $59.99
  • BlackBelt  2nd Degree Rugged Case for iPad Air (Plum – K97078WW) or Red – K97079WW), $49.99

Accidents happen, and someday your iPad Air is probably going to get dropped. That’s why Kensington made the BlackBelt 2nd Degree Rugged Case. By surrounding your iPad Air in a strong, cushioned rubber layer, it can survive drops and bumps because it offers premium shock absorption. It also features a built-in hand strap, multi-position stand and a screen protector.

  • SafeGrip Rugged Carrying Case and Stand for iPad Air (Blueberry – K67809WW or Charcoal – K67808WW), $44.99

The iPad opens a whole new world of hands-on learning for kids. However, sensitive electronics like the iPad Air just weren’t made to withstand the punishment kids can dish out. The Kensington SafeGrip Rugged Carry Case & Stand wraps the iPad Air in a tough, padded case complete with screen protection. It also has a thick, sturdy handle that’s perfect for kids’ hands, plus a built-in stylus holder and personalization window.

The GummyGrip has a firm tip that’s highly durable, so it won’t wear out even after extended use. Because kids tend to put things in their mouths that they shouldn’t, Kensington designed the GummyGrip with only non-toxic materials in an ergonomic shape that’s ideal for small hands. A lanyard loop allows the stylus to be worn like a necklace, minimizing the chances for the stylus to get misplaced. It also fits perfectly into the stylus holder of the Kensington SafeGrip Rugged Case.

Belkin Products Named “Cool Tool” Finalists in EdTech Digest Awards Recognition Program

Distinguished Awards Program Recognizes Outstanding Solutions in Education and Technology

PLAYA VISTA, CA – March 19, 2014 – Belkin, a trusted leader of technology solutions for classroom, IT infrastructure, office, and mobile environments, announced today that three Belkin products have been named as “Cool Tool” finalists in 2014 EdTech Digest Awards Recognition Program. The Tablet Stage and Stage App are Classroom Hardware Solution and Presentation Solution finalists. Belkin’s Store and Charge is a Mobile Device Solution finalist. The Cool Tool awards category recognizes new, emerging and established technology solutions for education.

A distinguished panel of industry influencers and veterans conducted this year’s evaluation proceedings. “There is a lot of talent and quality out there, and we’re excited to recognize these cool tools, leaders and trendsetters in the education technology space,” said Victor Rivero, who oversees the program as Editor in Chief of EdTech Digest. “There are now thousands of startups, apps, and companies working in edtech, more than ever before. Shining a spotlight on the best and brightest, we intend to generate even more activity in this sector to continue pushing forward a slow revolution for the benefit of future generations.”

Belkin Tablet Stage and Stage App

Outfitting individual classrooms with an interactive whiteboard, document camera and computer can add up to several thousand dollars each, and requires extensive training and technical support. Belkin’s Tablet Stage transforms a tablet into an interactive classroom tool at a fraction of this cost. Educators can easily present, conduct a video conference, record a tutorial video, or capture perfect pictures with the mobile device of their choice with the Stage App.

Belkin’s free Stage App for iPad adds interactive capabilities to the Tablet Stage, enabling users to capture live video and overlay text, labels, or highlight key points throughout presentations. Together with Stage App, Stage makes it simple to showcase a lesson or capture content with the iPad.

Belkin Store and Charge

Store and Charge offers an elegant, accessible, and affordable mobile device management solution designed to optimize digital learning. With the ability to store and charge up 10 devices simultaneously, the station makes it easy to keep tablets, thin and light laptops, and e-readers organized, available, fully charged, and ready for classroom use.

The station can store and charge different kinds of devices at the same time, each with its own charging cable or adapter, with an open setup that does not interfere with wireless syncing. Because it is platform agnostic, Store and Charge is suitable for most mobile deployments including all generations of Chromebooks, iPads, Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Note, and up to 13-inch laptops. Its small footprint reduces valuable table top space requirements when in use, and when stored, up to three stations can be mounted on a single cart.

“Belkin is committed to understanding the technology challenges faced by teachers and students, as we continue to innovate solutions that enhance today’s dynamic, digital learning environment,” said Jon Roepke, senior product manager, Business Division, Belkin International. “This recognition by EdTech Digest is a testament to our customer-driven approach to product design and developing the best quality classroom solutions at prices schools can afford.”
