Belkin Expands Award-Winning Secure KVM Portfolio with Secure Windowing KVM

New One-of-a-Kind KVM Switch Technology Ends Era of Manual Push-Button Switching Between Channels

PLAYA VISTA, CA Belkin, a trusted leader of technology solutions for office, classroom, IT infrastructure, and mobile environments, today announced the expansion of its award-winning secure KVM product line with the first-to-market Belkin Secure Windowing KVM Switch. The new switch delivers superior peripheral security for government and high security agencies by providing true data path isolation between systems and networks—the hallmark of Belkin’s Advanced Secure KVM product family.

Unlike conventional KVMs, the Belkin Secure Windowing KVM Switch requires no manual push-button switching between channels. The new switch enables simultaneous user interaction with multiple computers connected to networks with different security levels, using one mouse, one keyboard and one or two display monitors.

Traditional secure KVM switches allow users to work on only one channel or computer at a time. The new switch is the only product designed for environments in which the user needs to constantly work at and monitor multiple computers, with different security levels, simultaneously— without quality loss, latency, reduced colors, or dropped frames. Using state-of-the-art video technology, the Belkin Secure Windowing KVM allows users to fit up to four full HD sources on a single HD display.

The Windowing KVM is fully compatible with legacy (using Belkin Smart Cables) and new government systems, and is Common Criteria validated to EAL 4+ to assure the highest level of protection.

Additional security features of Belkin’s Secure Windowing KVM Switch include:

  • Advanced scaling function, allowing users to scale the video source x 1/2 and x 1/4
  • Two additional working modes: tile and scaling
  • Dual-display model, the ideal setup for high-end users
  • Easy customization of channels, colors, cursors, task bar, background, and more

“The new Secure Windowing KVM Switch brings the era of manual push-button switching between channels to an end, and makes simultaneous interaction with multiple computers a reality,” said Luis Artiz, director of product management, Business Division, Belkin International. “Like all products in Belkin’s award-winning Secure KVM portfolio, the Windowing KVM exemplifies our continued focus on improving workstation security, which pivots on true data path isolation between systems and networks. We will continue to advance our technology to meet the security requirements of government agencies, financial institutions, and other organizations that handle sensitive or confidential data on separate networks with different levels of security.”

Belkin’s Secure Windowing KVM Switch is now available through the company’s network of authorized channel partners.

Belkin delivers the necessary components for workstation security, as well as every essential accessory and peripheral device to provide a complete, efficient, productive workstation that meets the demands of government use. For more information visit:  Belkin Government.

Belkin Receives EAL 4+ Certification for DVI-I KVM and Secure KM Product Portfolio

Belkin’s Award-Winning KVM Switches Receive Common Criteria Certificate, Providing Government Buyers with Assurance Based on Stringent Computer Security Requirements

PLAYA VISTA, CA – Belkin, a trusted leader of technology solutions for office, classroom, IT infrastructure, and mobile environments, today announced that the company has received Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 4+ certification for its DVI-I KVM and Secure KM products. Designed to meet the strict requirements of government agencies, the keyboard/video/mouse switches feature the award-winning secure technology of true data path isolation between systems and networks, the hallmark of Belkin’s Advanced Secure KVM product family.

Common Criteria lists seven levels, with EAL 1 as the most basic, and EAL 7 the most stringent. Each EAL corresponds to a package of security assurance requirements, which covers the complete development of a product, with a given level of strictness and control. This Common Criteria certification is globally known as the international standard (ISO/IEC 15408) for computer security certification.

In the U.S., the highest level achievable for Secure KVM is EAL 2. However, Belkin was able to receive certification through Canadian protocol, which tests to EAL 4+. Certification was awarded by the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC).

The CSEC’s Certification Report stated: “The results documented in the Evaluation Technical Report (ETR) for this product provide sufficient evidence that it meets the EAL 4 augmented assurance requirements for the evaluated security functionality.” The report also noted that by awarding a Common Criteria certificate, the Canadian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification Scheme (CCS) asserts that the evaluated products comply with the security requirements specified in the associated security target.

“Common Criteria ensures that the process of specification, implementation, and evaluation of a computer security product has been conducted in a rigorous, standard, and repeatable manner,” said Luis Artiz, director of product management, Business Division, Belkin International. “Receiving EAL 4+ certification assures our government buyers that they can continue to place a high level of confidence in Belkin’s KVM security features based on the quality assurance process.”

Belkin’s DVI-I KVM switches provide true data path isolation for government workstations in a highly secure environment. The switches can be used to securely connect peripheral devices, including audio equipment and large high-resolution displays, and to switch quickly among multiple PCs and networks with a single keyboard, monitor, mouse, and common access card reader.

The Secure KM Switch portfolio offers users secure switching between isolated networks with simple mouse pointer movement. The switches feature single, unbuffered, dedicated processors for each peripheral port, which allow analysts to work simultaneously on multiple networks at different security levels.

Air Shield technology features a rigid, protective shell with shock-absorbing edges and corners to protect an iPad from accidental damage. The case has been independently tested to meet conditions for MIL STD 810G transit drops up to six feet specified by the U.S. Department of Defense.*

The case is compatible with iPad 2, 3, and 4 as well as with standard charging stations and carts, such as the Belkin Store and Charge or Bretford carts. It offers quick, hassle-free assembly, perfect for large iPad deployment. Other key features of the Belkin Air Shield Case include:

Belkin’s Air Shield Case now offers a practical, affordable solution for extra durability and protection.”

Belkin Air Shield Case joins a product portfolio that includes the Belkin Air Protect Case, introduced in June, which was designed to provide reliable simplicity without unnecessary bulk or weight. Belkin Builds on Cyber Security Strategy with the Introduction of New Secure DisplayPort KVM Switch for Federal and Defense Agencies

New KVM Switch Helps Create a More Unified, Intuitive and Secure Work Environment for Organizations Handling Confidential Data on Separate Networks

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. – July 16, 2013 – Belkin, a trusted leader of technology solutions for cyber security and government agencies, today announced the expansion of its award-winning secure product line with the addition of the Belkin DisplayPort KVM Switch. The new switch offers the ideal solution for federal and defense users who handle sensitive or confidential information and need a seamless, coherent environment working on multiple networks with different security levels.

DisplayPort is increasingly popular with the government sector because it offers high graphics resolution in a non-consumer HDMI format. Unlike HDMI, DisplayPort cables are securely fastened which minimizes down time that results when a loose cable is dislodged. In addition, no licensing fees are required, as with HDMI, and DisplayPort is significantly thinner and smaller than DVI.

While DisplayPort adoption is on the rise, there are security concerns involved with the transfer of information beyond display signals, making data vulnerable and security a challenge. Belkin is the first and only vendor to develop a Secure KVM Switch with support for DisplayPort technology. The switch, which is Common Criteria validated to EAL 4+, includes security mechanisms to protect DisplayPort channels and prevent leakage of information between connected computers and displays. These mechanisms provide isolation even if two connected computers are infected with malicious code attempting to target the KVM.

In addition, users today face a greater demand to monitor a growing amount of data and perform multiple tasks at the same time. Belkin addresses this by making the Secure DisplayPort KVM Switch the first to support up to four monitors on one system. As a result, users can more effectively keep an eye on more data simultaneously for improved intelligence and decision making.

As with all Belkin Secure KVM products, the DisplayPort KVM Switch is designed to thwart cyber-attacks by reinforcing user desktop security with the most advanced and secure commercially available KVM technology available. Additional Secure DisplayPort KVM Switch features include:

  • Protected DisplayPort channel switching – Security mechanisms protect DisplayPort channels, preventing leakage of information between connected computers and peripherals
  • Full support of all DisplayPort 1.2 resolutions up to 3840×2160
  • Dedicated processors with emulators for every port – Isolated port paths for video, audio, peripherals, and smart card readers prevent data leaks between computers
  • Unidirectional data paths – Optical data diodes prevent peripherals from being used to breach systems
  • Display security – Protected display interface prevents data leakage via the monitor
  • Peripheral management – USB device detection prevents unauthorized peripheral usage
  • Anti-tampering – Internal electrical sensors render unit inoperable if opened

“Belkin works side by side with government users to understand the real challenges associated with cyber security. These insights are factored into the design of the Secure DisplayPort KVM and our strategy to expand on Belkin’s secure product line,” said Luis Artiz, director of product management, Business Division, Belkin International Belkin. “We’re committed to investing in innovative solutions that secure the user computing environment and look forward to continuing to unveil new solutions that address cyber security concerns.”

Belkin’s DisplayPort KVM Switch will be available August 1, 2013 through the company’s network of authorized channel partners.

Belkin Earns Double Honors from K-12 TechDecisions for Optimizing Use of Mobile Technology in the Classroom

Store and Charge, and Air Protect Case for iPad Are Recognized by TechDecisions at ISTE 2013 for Helping Educators Manage BYOD/1:1 Devices

Belkin today announced that two of its recently announced products for education – the Belkin Store and Charge and the Belkin Air Protect Case for iPad – were named by K-12 TechDecisions as two of the Best Edtech Tools for Your BYOD or 1-1 Classroom at ISTE 2013, which took place in San Antonio last week. K-12 TechDecisions included both products in its round-up of 13 tools from the ISTE show floor that can help students manage their devices to stay focused and on track. The Store and Charge helps students optimize digital learning by keeping tablets, laptops, and e-readers organized, available, fully charged, and ready for classroom use. The Air Protect Case offers an ultra-protective, dropped tested, closed-cell foam enclosure for transporting iPads safely in school settings.

The 13 products awarded honors for BYOD or 1-1 learning initiatives were selected for their effectiveness at helping manage devices in the classroom, monitor how students use the devices, or aid in charging and updating the devices simultaneously. More than 18,000 educators and industry reps worldwide participated in ISTE 2013, which featured products that included tablets, mobile device management tools, tablet accessories, and other tools for K-12 education. Many of the products were designed to leverage the use of mobile learning initiatives in the classroom.

The Belkin Store and Charge was recognized for offering a functional and affordable mobile device management solution that provides K-12 customers the ability to store and charge up to 10 devices simultaneously. The station can also store and charge different types of devices at the same time – each with its own charging cable or adapter – without interfering with wireless syncing. The Store and Charge accommodates BYOD environments by using the mobile devices’ own charging cable or adapter to power the device.

The Belkin Air Protect Case for iPad was selected as a best edtech tool for using the same high-grade material that is found in shock-absorbing running shoe insoles and protective athletic shin-guards. The Air Protect Case has been military tested with validated performance to MIL-STD-810G Shock/Drop specifications by a third-party test laboratory. The thin profile fits in most charging carts and is designed for quick, hassle-free assembly, allowing for easy classroom deployments.

“We are extremely pleased to have received this recognition at ISTE 2013 from K-12 TechDecisions,” said Jon Roepke, senior product manager, Business Division, Belkin International. “K-12 environments can be unpredictable, with students frequently subjecting their devices to less than ideal conditions. So it’s important to have a reliable device management solution, and protect their investment with a case that can withstand the daily wear and tear of an education environment. We designed the Store and Charge and the Air Protect Case for iPad so that students’ learning experience can be easier and more fulfilling. Being honored as one of the 13 Best Edtech Tools for BYOD or 1-1 Classroom at ISTE 2013 is a testament to the care and dedication we put into understanding classroom technology challenges.”

The stands, which leverage DisplayLink® technology, allow users to turn an Ultrabook or Windows 8 tablet into a full-function desktop with a single plug-and-display USB 3.0 cable. Belkin will showcase the docking stands and other mobile computing solutions at COMPUTEX TAIPEI in Taiwan, June 4-8.

“Greater mobility and the need for an improved user experience are increasingly important to organizations that care about worker productivity and its impact on overall efficiency,” said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D., principal analyst, Mobile Trax. “Belkin has developed an interesting set of docking stands that really optimize the functionality of Ultrabooks, and particularly Windows8 Tablets, in the business  environment. This is a great step forward for mobile computing at the enterprise level.”

The new docking stands are designed to provide versatility to accommodate mixed platforms and multiple users, including visiting professionals, contractors and ‘hot desk’ environments. Because it allows easy access to multiple peripherals, users can configure their workstations based on their preferences.

Key features of the USB 3.0 Dual Video Docking Stands include:

  • Extra ports to deliver multiplied connectivity to keyboard, mouse, printer, network and more
  • Improved productivity with the ability to connect to one or two external high resolution displays
  • Optimized workspace with built-in Ethernet, display and USB ports as well as integrated cable management to keep clutter and desktop accessories organized

The Windows 8 docking stand is compatible with all Windows 8 tablets based on Atom and Intel core-i based mobile processors. The Ultrabook stand supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Neither stand is compatible with Windows 8 RT.

“Laptop and tablet users often do without the advantages of external monitors, full-size keyboards and other desktop peripherals because of the hassle involved in connecting, disconnecting and reconnecting every device, every time they leave their desk or return to it,” said, Timothy North, global product manager of Belkin Business, a division of Belkin International. “These docking stands offer the best of two worlds—the freedom and convenience of mobility with the comfort and functionality of a fully equipped office, finally enabling mobile computing with enterprise-level productivity.”
