Falken Tire USA Calls on IMT to Build New Green Virtualized Data Center

Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. has designed and built an entirely new data center for Falken Tire Corporation, manufacturer of UHP (Ultra High Performance) tire products for racing enthusiasts. Utilizing VMware software, this new data center packs what was once a large server environment into a new smaller more efficient virtualized computing environment.

As part of the comprehensive project, numerous decentralized storage arrays were consolidated using the powerful EMC’s VNX 5300 unified storage system platform. The new state-of-the-art data center utilizes Schneider Electric’s APC Hot Aisle Containment cooling and UPS system for maximum efficiency, capacity, and predictability of the cooling requirements.

IMT’s newly designed infrastructure fully supports Falken Tire/Falken Motor Sports and Racing companies Oracle eBusiness Suite, accommodating their supply chain, warehouse inventory, management, accounting, email, and business analytics tools, ensuring that all selling channels are aligned with their corporate objectives. Benefits realized by Falken Tire at their new corporate headquarters include a reduced physical compute footprint and an eco-friendly data center using less power and greatly reduced air conditioning needs.

In addition, IMT leveraged Quantum’s StorNext file system to enable Falken Tire’s
Creative and Marketing team to create and share rich media from the EMC VNX
platform. Prior to this, all video editing and graphics were silos of individual Apple
Mac Pro workstations. Now everything is shared over a real time fibre channel
storage network that is accessible to the video production team. The system also supports network attached storage (NAS) capabilities to share files easily with the entire marketing team.

IMT partnered with Falken Tire Corporation’s CIO Laura Paoletti to design and build out the new state of the art data center that provides leading edge technologies, and places Falken Tire Corporation as a leader in technologies for the ultra high performance tire and motor sports and racing business.

Ron Papcun, Falken Tire Vice President of Operations commented, “IMT did a thorough analysis of our entire IT infrastructure, then designed and built our new data center. By virtualizing our computing department in a very eco-friendly way, it takes us further in the green direction we always strive for. Our new operation is saving us about 30% on electricity, so it’s not only good for the planet, it’s good for our
profit margin.”

Mike Braico, IMT Executive Vice President of Sales, commented, “Falken Tire was great to work with. They gave clear direction on their efficiency targets for the new virtualized data center.  Designing and building the data center was easy with a partner like Falken Tire.”

Integrated Media Technologies Upgrades West Virginia Media Television Stations to HD

Native Son Bray Cary’s TV Network Reaches 90% of the Population

West Virginia Media Management (WVMM) called on Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to modernize and upgrade to High Definition (HD) it’s four television stations, which include eight network affiliations. The upgrade included WBOY-TV, Clarksburg/Morgantown; WVNS-TV, Beckley/Bluefield; WOWK-TV, Charleston/Huntington; and WRTF-TV, Wheeling/Steubenville.

West Virginia Media, with TV stations in all four of the main media markets and a weekly newspaper, The State Journal, is West Virginia’s first truly statewide media voice, reaching more than 90 percent of the population with news, weather and entertainment, while serving as an advocate for the state’s growth and prosperity. Native son Bray Cary, President & CEO, is also the host of the weekly show “Decision Makers,” which features the state’s leading government, business, and community leaders. The show touches on topics important to West Virginians, including the economy, education, health and transportation.

“Tom McGowan brought his personal relationship with our company and the tremendous abilities of IMT to us to create a well planned and expertly executed installation to enable us to fully enter the world of true HDTV,” stated Bray Cary.  “We are pleased not only with the product, but with their on-going service and training that IMT brings to all of their relationships.”

“We recognize that Bray is a well respected business and cultural leader in West Virginia, and it was vitally important to ensure success of the project by delivering on his business goals and objectives,” explained Tom McGowan, IMT VP of Business Development.

“We began this project with the needs analysis process,” McGowan continued, “which allowed us to put forth a recommended equipment list providing WVMM with a ‘Master Plan’ detailing different scenarios.  IMT developed the plan while working in concert with WVMM personnel, as partners throughout this process, ensuring a successful transition to HD news and content.”

West Virginia Media’s objectives included ensuring long-term viability, scalability and growth, as well as delivering content to multiple screens, such as television, web and mobile devices.  Easily sharing content between WVMM stations was critical to the success of the project, ensuring localism for viewers.

Waldorf Astoria Chooses IMT & Meraki for High-performance Wi-Fi

Roosevelt New Orleans Upgrades as Premiere Hilton Business Showcase

Management at one of Hilton Hotels’ most prestigious properties, The Roosevelt Waldorf Astoria in New Orleans, was having a Wi-Fi crisis.  The proliferation of mobile devices was overtaxing traditional wireless networking and the The Roosevelt was feeling the pinch.

Superior Wi-Fi at top hotels is no longer an option when it comes to high level conferences and company meetings.  Management at the Waldorf-Astoria called on Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to find a solution to the density of mobile devices that was overburdening their Wi-Fi spaces.

“We thought we had the latest and greatest system, but apparently we were wrong,”  explained Fred Sidhva, a top Hilton manager.  “When our clientele is paying good money for their corporate gatherings, we have to give them a totally reliable Wi-Fi experience.  We needed a new approach, so we contacted IMT.”

Throughout this century and the last, The Roosevelt has strived to provide world leaders, business executives and entertainment icons with an unrivaled meetings and events service. Twenty-three separate and unique meeting rooms and 3 grand ballrooms comprise the hotel’s 5574m_/60 000 sq. ft. of event space offering a wealth of venue options.

“This project was a challenge with a tight deadline,” remarked Garth Gilmour, IMT’s VP Professional Services. “When the Waldorf contacted us, they expressed concern about the supposedly solid Wi-Fi system they had installed.  IMT had already gone through the Hilton standardization process, so we visited the New Orleans location, created a new design for them and were given the green light to proceed.”

Gilmour and the IMT team chose to develop the solution with the new Meraki MR14 dual-radio 802.11n access point series.  “Meraki is leading the pack today because they have realtime tools that are built in,” continued Gilmour.  “We’ve enhanced and integrated those tools through third party interfaces, allowing us to do  a fast and dynamic analysis of the hotel environment.  Just a year ago, that would have required a $25,000 analyzer and a team of technicians working for weeks.”

“We just didn’t have the luxury of time and another giant budget to fix this,” added Fred Sidhva.  “We gave IMT a very small window to work in — just two nights when the conference rooms were vacant between midnight and 3 AM.  We needed a product that could be deployed very effectively, very efficiently, and very quickly.  IMT hit the ground running and got the job done right, the first time.”

An effective wireless deployment requires universal coverage throughout the hotel meeting spaces.  An efficient deployment is like a military rescue: get in and get out.  Gilmour concluded,”We’ve found that with Meraki, the installation time is cut by 40%.  We have to guarantee that everything is working perfectly, but we also have to thoroughly train the hotel IT staff so that they have got everything covered when we leave.”

Renton School District Selects IMT and Meraki for Wi-Fi Network

Nation’s First Campus-Wide 3-stream 802.11n Network

Pictured is Stosh Morency, Renton School District IT Director.

Renton School District in Washington state’s King County selected Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to implement Meraki’s MR24 cloud-controlled wireless access points to provide enterprise-class WiFi to all of Renton’s 16,000 students, faculty and staff.  Now equipped with the nation’s first campus-wide 3-stream 802.11n network, Renton School District has it installed at 29 sites, including elementary, middle, and high schools in and around the city of Renton.

“We want to put new technology in the hands of the students,” explained Stosh Morency, Renton’s IT Director.  “It’s a ‘bring your own device concept’ and by having the wireless network across all of our buildings, it opens the door for projects that were never an option before.  For us as a school district, we want to provide access to all of the students, regardless of where they are in the buildings.”

“This was one of our biggest projects,” remarked Garth Gilmour, IMT’s VP Professional Services. “The deployment makes Renton the first school district to adopt the latest generation of WiFi, featuring 3-stream, 900 Mbps performance.”  The award-winning Meraki Enterprise Cloud Controller centrally manages a total of 437 of Meraki’s high performance MR24 access points.

“New technology projects always have challenges,” added Morency, “but IMT and Meraki made it much easier to deal with.  The Meraki tools made it easier to troubleshoot problems and the IMT team was totally committed to the success of the project.”

“Through IMT’s thorough research and exacting implementation, Meraki allows me to manage the network across the entire district, and I’m a team of one,” said Todd Baker, Network Administrator for Renton School District. “The capabilities of Meraki’s Cloud Controller are considerable. There’s one dashboard for everything, from provisioning APs to troubleshooting client issues.”

The Meraki MR24, an ultra high-performing 3-stream 802.11n access point, is ideal for dense classroom environments and high-bandwidth applications.  Renton is deploying 437 access points, providing campus-wide coverage for its Computer on Wheels (COW) program, which provides classrooms with “COW carts” to stream video, data and other media.

With IMT’s help, Renton leveraged Meraki’s contract with the Washington Learning Source (WLS), which facilitates deployments for Washington state school districts. Prior to selecting Meraki, Stosh Morency and Todd Baker carefully evaluated a number of networking vendors, testing WiFi range, throughput, signal strength, and interference.

The ease of use and reliability of Meraki’s cloud controller impressed Baker. “I’ve had a controller go bad on me in the past.  With Meraki’s cloud controller, I’ll never have to deal with that again,” Baker said.  IT Director Stosh Morency added, “And the lifetime warranty of the products was a key factor in our decision making process.”

Molloy College Addresses Integrated Media Technologies Upgrade at NAB

“Tomorrow’s Needs Today: Making the Argument for Upgrade”

Leading liberal arts institution, Molloy College, of Long Island, NY, will be participating in the Broadcast Education Association panel discussion during NAB, “Tomorrow’s Needs Today: Making the Argument for Upgrade,” on Wednesday, April 18 at The Las Vegas Hilton.   Molloy College first met with Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) at NAB 2011 to determine the best way to upgrade their SD production facilities to full HD specs.

As media technologies continue to evolve and previous generations become obsolete, communications programs in small schools are reaching the threshold of maintaining traditional curriculum while deciding what new media to adopt and use. The BEA panel discusses strategies in proposing new media upgrades and the struggles of adopting a new program. Panelists are currently upgrading or have recently upgraded their traditional communications curriculum.
Moderator: James Cohen, Molloy College
Panelists: Matthew Tullis, Ashland University
Thomas Kenny, Molloy College

“We chose IMT after speaking with Greg Pocali at NAB 2011 last year in Las Vegas,” explained Thomas Kenny, Molloy Adjunct Instructor.  “We went to NAB to research gear and materials needed to transfer our SD studio to HD.  This included cameras, switchers, storage devices, etc.  After meeting with Greg, he pointed us in the right direction and told us exactly what we needed for a transfer.  Greg is extremely knowledgeable as an engineer and we felt comfortable with him and the staff at IMT.”

“We are upgrading our facility,” he continued, “because it is in standard-definition and at this day and age, everyone should have a high-definition facility.  If my iPad can shoot video in HD, then the studio for the students should have that capability as well.  We plan on using the facility for educational purposes to help  our students get a career in media production.  Also, this could [allow] students to start their own productions outside of class for news programs and various shows.”

Media Production Curriculum
Molloy College has had a Media Production Curriculum for several years.  Over the last two years, the college has changed its curriculum to match the change in technology.  Last year, Molloy developed and implemented a brand new minor in New Media.  This includes combining web and television – students learn how to create apps, design a website, and create web television while utilizing all mediums (iPad, Internet, television, mobile device, etc.).

Thomas Kenny concluded, “The discussion for me is based on two areas.  First is the need to have an updated, high-definition facility for our students to nurture successful careers in media/new media production. This is the area where we worked closely with Integrated Media Technologies, Inc.  The second phase of the discussion, again from the Molloy College perspective, is updating the curriculum to meet today’s standards. In today’s media culture, students creating film/television also need to include social media, websites, apps, etc., to the mix in order to have successful careers.  We are speaking about how we designed the courses for the Major & Minor.  Plus, we will tie in how both the new media Major/Minor uses the updated HD facility.

WHAT: “Tomorrow’s Needs Today: Making the Argument for Upgrade”
WHEN: Wednesday April 18, 2012 12:00pm – 1:15pm
WHERE: Las Vegas Hilton, Conference Room 1
