It’s fall in New York and the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly has kicked off a round of international events and meetings at the headquarters of the world body. Scharff Weisberg provided lighting and audio support for three key events: the South Sudan Multilateral Meeting (SSMM) produced by The White House and the back-to-back Every Woman, Every Child event (EWEC) and the African Leaders Malaria Alliance meeting (ALMA) both produced by J. Marshall Events Inc.

Scharff Weisberg supplied a lighting package for the SSMM specifically to light President Barack Obama. Natasha Jameson-Randolph was lighting designer for the gathering convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and addressing a region often tragically in the headlines the last few years.

It was a season for change for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Spring 2010, which moved to a new, larger venue at Lincoln Center, and for IMCD Lighting which migrated to a grandMA console for the fashion shows it lit at Damrosch Park. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of the grandMA in North America.

IMCD designed the lighting for one of the four runways in the park’s tents where more than 20 shows for different fashion houses were produced by IMG Fashion. Each show utilized a basic lighting package, which was supplemented with moving lights, followspots and an LED video wall, as needed.

Smart Monkeys was chosen by David Niles–best-known for his pioneering HD production and for creating the award winning Comcast Experience–to build the show control and programming for “Liberty 360,” a 360º stereoscopic 3D exhibit produced by Niles Creative Group for the Historic Philadelphia Center. The 15-minute experience uses storytelling (Ben Franklin appears as the historical escort) and theatrical illusion to portray the evolution of democracy in the United States. Niles created the original concept for the exhibit as well as the unique theater design for the world’s first 360º stereo 3D projection.

Prism Projection’s RevEAL Color Wash instruments made their red-carpet debut on “The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet Special” on NBC. A team from “Access Hollywood” produced the live program, which showcased Emmy nominees and guests as they arrived at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

“For some time we’ve been interested in moving toward energy-efficient LED technology for daylight/exterior red carpet-type applications, but the consensus has always been that LEDs just don’t have enough ‘punch,’” says Steve Holt, production manager with “Access Hollywood.”
