MDG’s theONE, a fully-digital, dual-mode fog/haze atmospheric generator, was named Best Debuting Product in the Special Effects Category by LDI 2010. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive US distributor for MDG products.

The LDI 2010 convention, held October 22-24 in Las Vegas, presented awards to the best debuting products launched at the show and available for the first time on the show floor. Winners were selected, with an eye toward the latest in technology, by a panel of industry experts working with the editors of Live Design magazine.

Hollywood Boulevard has always been a magnet for tourists who converge on the avenue to view its iconic sights, and now they have a new attraction to engage their attention. The Guinness World Records Museum’s interactive Planar video wall, provided and installed by Electrosonic, uses gesture-based technology to capture the movements of passers-by and animate unique custom characters in 3D space.

Los Angeles-based Electroland, which creates objects, interactive experiences and large-scale public art projects, tapped Electrosonic for the project at one of Hollywood’s highest profile locations.

Planar’s Clarity high-resolution, LED-illuminated, rear-projection video wall delivers optimized color performance, exact image control, long life and minimal maintenance. Smart Monkeys was chosen by David Niles–best-known for his pioneering HD production and for creating the award winning Comcast Experience–to build the show control and programming for “Liberty 360,” a 360º stereoscopic 3D exhibit produced by Niles Creative Group for the Historic Philadelphia Center. The 15-minute experience uses storytelling (Ben Franklin appears as the historical escort) and theatrical illusion to portray the evolution of democracy in the United States. Niles created the original concept for the exhibit as well as the unique theater design for the world’s first 360º stereo 3D projection.

AES Convention-goers Make Plans to Meet Acoustical Designer Lawrence Swist

Lawrence Swist, principle of Lawrence P. “For some time we’ve been interested in moving toward energy-efficient LED technology for daylight/exterior red carpet-type applications, but the consensus has always been that LEDs just don’t have enough ‘punch,’” says Steve Holt, production manager with “Access Hollywood.”

The two rappers headlined four sold-out concert dates on their Home and Home Tour playing Comercia Park and Yankee Stadium in their hometowns of Detroit and New York City.

High Resolution Systems’ Drew Taylor manned the system for client Background Images, which delivered video content to the eyeball-shaped screens behind Eminem onstage. The UDC-400, a software-based control platform that allows simple, cost-effective control of devices using IP (TCP/UDP) or serial (232/422/485) protocols, worked in conjunction with a Vista Montage 2 control console to extend the functionality of a Christie Vista Spyder X20. more
