Video Applications Inc. Collaborates With Gorilla Production Group for First U.S. Saisho Homa Fire Rite Ceremony at Shinnyo-en Temple

In the last several years Shinnyo-en Buddhists have conducted the Saisho Homa fire rite ceremony in Taiwan, Paris and Berlin. This year, the prayer ceremony for world peace was brought to the U.S. for the first time and documented by turnkey production and event resource Gorilla Production Group with AV technical support from Video Applications Inc. (VAI).

The rite, held at Shinnyo-en’s head temple in Redwood City, California, was led by Her Holiness Shinso Ito, one of the few women Buddhist priests, who traveled from Japan for the event. Covering the ceremony for an overflow crowd and for followers worldwide posed numerous challenges, including being as unobtrusive as possible during the rite, dealing with space constraints and servicing two locations at a second venue.

High Resolution Systems LLC has introduced a new software release for its Universal Device Controller (UDC). UDC 3.2.2 includes numerous new features and improvements to enhance the user experience.

“We have been listening to our customers and, as a result, have added a lot of new features to UDC 3.2.2, improved existing functionality and upgraded some of the user interface,” says sales engineer Drew Taylor.

UDC 3.2.2 now supports the new UDC-210 21-button panel controller for UDC software and offers additional button colors; new font colors for buttons; and Context Menus to add and remove buttons, add and remove image, and add and remove background image.

A new font and colors have been enabled for the web server; web server image caching for browsers has also been added.

grandMA2 Makes Its Miss America Pageant Debut

It was the 90th anniversary of the Miss America Pageant and grandMA2 played a key role backstage. A pair of grandMA2 light’s made their debut at the 2011 pageant, which was telecast live on ABC from the Planet Hollywood casino-resort in Las Vegas. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of the grandMA2 in North America.

The pageant reunited lighting designer Allen Branton, who returned for the fourth time, and fellow lighting directors Kevin Lawson & Felix Peralta, who marked their third year & fourth year on the show respectively. This also marked the first time that Lawson & Peralta had used the grandMA 2 on a live televised broadcast.

Mid-America Sound Corporation, one of the largest full-service concert and event production companies in the Midwest, and A.C.T Lighting will present an open house featuring Clay Paky automated fixtures and MA Lighting grandMA2 consoles on February 3 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Mid-America will host the open house at its Greenfield, Indiana headquarters where Clay Paky Alpha 1500 and 700 series fixtures and the new Sharpy fixture will be showcased alongside a complete range of grandMA2s, both full size and Light.

As developer OCT builds and expands its network of theme parks throughout China, the company has called on Electrosonic to provide all the AV solutions for two new dark ride attractions at Happy Valley outside Shanghai and Window of the World in Shenzhen, north of Hong Kong. Although a thousand miles separate the theme parks, the two attractions were virtually identical in size and scope for Electrosonic, which supplied full projection systems and screens, the main show control system, 4D effects, audio and lighting.
