Clay Paky Alpha Beam 1500 fixtures helped Atomic Lighting shine at the 11th annual Latin Grammy Awards telecast on Univision November 11 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. A.C.T Lighting is a distributor of Clay Paky lighting in North America.

The Alpha Beam 1500 is the most powerful luminaire among fully-automated ACL fixtures. It generates a solid, super-concentrated parallel beam for very long-throw projections that can be shaped and animated with built-in tools for fantastic mid-air effects. With its new Fast-Fit 1500W lamp, the fixture can also become a spotlight for long-distance, focused projections and perform as a narrow-angle washlight.

“We used eight Alpha Beam 1500s on the show,” reports Atomic Lighting’s Brett Puwalski. “The lighting designer, Carlos Colina, had heard about them and was interested in checking them more

Stage Research Co-founder Taps SFX and LightFactory for Regional Theater

Stage Research continued its commitment to regional theater when co-founder Carlton Guc put SFX and LightFactory software through their paces on two recent Ohio productions.

SFX is the company’s flagship product for creating reliable and enriched soundscapes; LightFactory brings all the features expected from a lighting control board to software that can be run on the smallest of laptops.

Stage Research provided many technical advances, including SFX and LightFactory software and related hardware, to Actors’ Summit when Akron’s professional theater company brought “A Christmas Carol” to Greystone Hall for a limited engagement. Guc also designed sound for the holiday production, which runs through December 29. This adaptation of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” is a traditional crowd-pleaser: It was staged at the Cleveland Play House for eight years.

Guc was also in demand as sound designer for “Steel Magnolias,” which just concluded its run as part of more

NBC Today

NBC Today

When the lighting needs intensified for the Rockefeller Center outdoor concerts hosted by NBC’s “Today” show, Kaufman Astoria Studios provided a grandMA2 to handle lighting control duties. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of the grandMA in North America.

The grandMA2 not only controls Howie’s lighting but several DL3 projectors on the set, too.” Brian Davis is the board programmer.

There are a lot of exclamations of “OMG” on Usher’s current OMG Tour, his first big-budget spectacle since 2004. The platinum-selling artist has remarked that he wanted to make sure his show was state of the art and would have fans leaving with an OMG experience. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the grandMA2 and Clay Paky Alpha Wash 700 luminaires are generating “OMGs” of their own. A.C.T Lighting distributes both products in North America.

Usher’s futuristic, high-concept show challenged Lighting Designer Peter Morse and Associate Lighting Designer Eric Wade. “We had to design around a lot of fly gags and moving set pieces,” notes Wade who heads FOHShow, a lighting- services company. “The rig is designed to look big but not be completely massive; it’s large but not over the top.
