Vibrant Design’s Christopher Landy Lights Up 15th Annual “Comics Come Home? Benefit Hosted by Denis Leary

Production designer Tom Lenz of 513 invited Christopher Landy of Brooklyn-based Vibrant Design LLC to have fun for a good cause when he suggested the lighting designer work on America’s longest-running comedy benefit, “Comics Come Home,” which marked its 15th anniversary at Boston University’s Agganis Arena on November 7.

Hosted by Denis Leary, the comedy show benefits The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care and The Neely Cancer Fund. This year’s performers included Bill Burr, Lenny Clarke, Adam Ferrara, Kenny Rogerson, Jeffrey Ross, Jimmy Fallon, Whitney Cummings, and Tony V.

“Tom (Lenz) has been production designer for ‘Comics Come Home’ for the last four or five years,” says Landy. “Tom and I have been doing more and more shows with a strong emphasis on LED screens with content being a strong design element.”

Vibrant Design’s Christopher Landy Begins Third Season As Lighting Designer on VH1 Classic’s “THAT METAL SHOW”

“THAT METAL SHOW,” the Saturday-night show on VH1 Classic that discusses and debates all things hard rock and heavy metal, has returned for its third season and so has lighting designer Christopher Landy of Brooklyn-based Vibrant Design LLC.

VH1 Classic often calls on Vibrant to light series and specials. Landy has been involved with “THAT METAL SHOW,” from its inception. “The show has been a runaway hit,” he notes, “and we’re back in production with nine new episodes.” Season three reunites hosts Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson with such guests as the Canadian heavy metal band Anvil, Rob Halford , WWE’s Chris Jericho, Steve Vai, and Peter Criss. more

Scharff Weisberg helped the iconic Guggenheim Museum celebrate its 50th anniversary by providing support for several key events, including artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s “Levels of Nothingness.”

Part of the museum’s Works & Process series, the commissioned performance installation was inspired by Kandinsky’s opera, The Yellow Sound. In “Levels of Nothingness,” the pitch, rhythm and content of the spoken word provides the control mechanism for an interactive light performance using moving light fixtures normally found on a rock concert stage. Scharff Weisberg supplied 40 VARI*LITE VL3000 spots for the 35-minute show which enjoyed a limited run in the Peter B. Lewis Theater.

During “Levels of Nothingness” actress Isabella Rossellini, spot lit on a bare stage, read texts about skepticism, color and perception into a microphone while her voice was analyzed by computers running specialized code developed by the artist.
