Medialon Show Control for the new ride of hit comic series “One Piece” at Huis Ten Bosch Theme Park in Japan

Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park in Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan, which recreates a Dutch town. The spacious resort is suffused with a European atmosphere with its picturesque canals, iconic windmills, gardens and architecture.

Huis Ten Bosch houses various amusements and rides, including 3D technology theatres, a haunted house, a replica of the Domtoren (Dom Tower) of Utrech, a boat ride related to the hit comic series “One Piece” and a new indoor ride based on “One Piece” characters and story.

Tokyo-based TV & Event Lighting company, Fuji Lighting Technology’s Designer Junichi Nakahara and Kyushyu region-based Tatsuya Ifuku from Stage Lighting company Kyushyu Stage, selected Medialon Show Control system technology to be part of “One Piece – For the new World”, the new indoor ride at Huis Ten Bosch theme park.

The show programming was mainly made by Mr. Tatsuya Ifuku, and Mileruntech Co Ltd., Medialon’s products distributor in Japan, helped for the show programming, and also trained the staff on Medialon Control System.

Mileruntech Co Ltd. also designed a user-friendly Graphical User Interface for Huis Ten Bosch’s staff. The interface allows them to easily monitor the show remotely.

All the AV devices are controlled and synchronized thanks to one Medialon Showmaster PRO embedded show controller. The Showmaster PRO controls:
- 1x Medialon MAS PRO 32 channels audio server
- 1x BSS/BLU -800
- 3x BSS/BLU 160
- 3x Panasonic Projectors PTD-6000
- 1x NEC Projector
- 17x Media Players
- 2x DMX Recorder
- the ride lighting and shooting system control
- the rack power control

The Medialon MAS PRO 32 CobraNet channels audio server controls the audio tracks and effects.

“Mr. Junichi Nakahara and Mr. Tatsuya Ifuku felt that using Medialon was highly valued for real-time programming.”, declares Usami Kouichi, General Manager at Mileruntech Co. Ltd.

“They appreciated the fact they could use Showmaster Editor Software from anywhere in the attraction’s building, by using the Wifi and a laptop. It allowed them to make changes in their program and to test them in real time.”, adds Usami Kouichi.

Medialon’s ability to control a wide variety of products using Low Level Communicator (that allow to control any devices of your choice by easily creating your own serial, TCP/IP or Midi driver), even for non-standard brand of media players installed on the ride, was really reassuring for both programmers and designers’ of One Piece attraction.” , concludes Usami Kouichi.

“One Piece – For the New World” attraction ride was inaugurated in July 2012.

Medialon Manager and Webpanels used at Barco Demo Center at Niles Creative Group in NYC, USA

Barco has recently created a demo facility at Niles Creative Group in New York’s financial district the historic 26 Broadway building. The facility showcases various Barco products, including HD video projectors, image processors, LiveDots LED video walls, ClickShare, control room solutions, rear projection video walls, High End Systems lighting, and dZine digital signage systems.

Medialon Manager simplifies the demo facility’s operation to make it easy for salespeople to turn on and off the entire system as well as run presentations that showcase the various different products, all from an elegant iPad WebPanel interface.

The Medialon system controls and synchronizes video played back from AJA KiPro players, a 7th Sense Delta server, and various dZine digital signage players. Conventional and LED Lighting, as well as High End Systems DL3s are controlled from a High End Systems Road Hog console, taking commands from Medialon Manager via Midi Show Control. Barco HDX and RLM projectors are controlled by Manager and provide return information about lamp life and status. A Barco Folsom FSN and ImagePro video processors manage source switching, picture in picture, and scaling of the various sources, including from ClickShare, to the various projectors and LED walls. An assortment of LED video wall solutions, both for indoor and outdoor are showcased, including the C5, CX8, C7, NX4, T20, V-6, and V-10 products.

From input on the iPad’s WebPanel, Manager can control the brightness of each LED wall independently, allowing each video wall to be demonstrated alone or all of them to work together as one big display. The C5 video wall and the lighting trusses are connected to a motor control system that is also linked to the Medialon system for cueing during the presentations, allowing the video wall to roll off and hide behind a curtain and the trusses to fly in for demonstration of the DL3s and LED lighting gear.

Show content was provided by Niles Creative Group. The Project Manager from Barco was Erik Iversen and Eric Cantrell from Medialon assisted with the installation and programming.

Medialon Show Control technology at “Quartier des Spectacles” in Montreal, the world’s largest coordinated architectural projection installation ever made

The Quartier des Spectacles is a roughly 1 square kilometer area downtown of Montreal. This area of the city had historically been filled with theatres and cabarets, but in the last 40 years, it had fallen into blight and become an unfavorable, and sometimes dangerous, area of the city. The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership was formed in 2003 to revitalize this once vibrant cultural heart of Montreal. Now, it is the home of not only theatres and cabarets, but restaurants, shopping centers, and many outdoor music and art festivals every year.

Eight main sites and many more to come have transformed buildings into canvases for architectural projection artwork. One of the rules of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is that the artistic projects should only be used for public art, not for commercialism, so advertising and logos are not allowed as part of the building projections. Many businesses have joined in the fun and added architectural lighting elements of their own to really make the neighborhood lively.

The projection installations are not all simply playback of rendered content. In some cases, interactive elements allow the public to interact with the projections, using game technology and sensors of various types to make the projections truly unique.

Each architectural projection installation has custom made projector housings sitting on rooftops of adjacent buildings that contain not only the high powered projectors but also the media servers, networking gear, show controllers, IP cameras, temperature and humidity sensors, and climate control (for heating, air conditioning, dehumidifying, etc.) The projections run every night year round, so the equipment inside the projector housings must be in a climate-controlled environment for optimum performance. The local show controller (Medialon Showmaster ST) controls and supervises the equipment, schedules playback of shows, controls the temperature and humidity inside the projector housing, manages remote reboot of unresponsive devices, and sends e-mail alarms of any malfunctions , failures, or unusual humidity or temperature readings.

The larger buildings require multiple projector housings all linked together. These linked housings are managed by a single Showmaster ST, but each housing contains a local media server connected to the projectors in that housing.

The technical production team of Quartier des Spectacles has devised a standard set of equipment used in all of the projection installations. This allows for easier stocking of spare parts, easier maintenance, and faster installation of new sites or changes to shows at the permanent sites. Some of the installations are temporary and the equipment is only installed on a temporary basis, allowing flexibility to add new sites for special events.

The Showmasters at each site are connected to the main Quartier des Spectacles headquarters at the Place des Festivals by dedicated fiber optics, microwave radio transmission, or through a virtual private network on the Internet. The main system can control and monitor all the remote sites and even pull up camera views from each site’s IP cameras. The system can even be controlled and monitored remotely from system administrators’ iPhones.

The main installation at the heart of Quartier des Spectacles is the Place des Festivals. This square is where the many festivals take place in the Quartier. There are fountains and lights embedded into the sidewalk. In the summer, fountain and lighting shows accompany the adjacent building projections. The street lights can even be turned off by the show control system during the shows. Since all the systems are tied to the main control system, all sites can be coordinated and synchronized together.

Quartier des Spectacles is the world’s largest coordinated architectural projection installation, made possible by Show Control technology from Medialon.

A Medialon Show Control system for the spectacular night-time “Big O” show at Expo 2012 in Yeosu, South Korea

© Julien Panie

The marine-themed Expo 2012 has opened in May 2012 for a three-month run in Yeosu, South Korea. The icon of the Expo is “Big-O”, a landmark constructed to give visitors an insight into the expo’s theme, including experience zones hosting large-scale events and cultural performances.

ECA2 – a French-based company specialized in creating and producing major events and shows around the world – was in charge of designing the entire “Big-O” show as well as the O structure. The artistic and technical production of the show was also part of ECA2 mission.

During daytime the “Big-O” is a giant sculpture that will remain after the Expo as a symbolic landmark. By night, it is the centerpiece of a unique show that embraces the Expo’s themes.

The O itself features a water screen inside the outer rim, which shows films and other videos. The outer rim also produces special effects, such as laser shows.

© Julien Panie

ECA2’s team designed the O as a mysterious object that could have emerged from the ocean itself. It glints in the sunlight like a jewel over the lagoon. Modern materials such as concrete and steel are harmoniously combined to lend the structure an almost organic appearance.

For the “Big-O” night-time show, the Medialon show control system synchronizes hundreds of devices and special effects, creating an immersive show that plunges the audience into the heart of a sensory narrative.

One Medialon Manager V6 PRO show control software allows controlling and synchronizing the following:

Water:
- 24x moving water cannons (360°)
- “Cascade Screen”®, a 45-meter high water curtain which is the biggest and tallest one ever built in the world
- hundreds of water jets

Special effects:
- 24x flame generators
- hundreds of mist nozzles
- 5x lasers

Lighting and video:
- 58x moving heads (1 500W) in weatherproof casing
- 6x video projectors (35 000 lumens)

[The “Big-O” show is definitely one of the main attractions at Expo 2012 where millions of people from around the world will to visit.
