Planar Systems and BrightSign Team to Create World’s Tallest Planar Mosaic Video Wall

Four-story Architectural Video Wall Greets Guests at High-end Miami Hotel

Planar Systems Mosaic-Video-Wall-6PORTLAND, Ore. & LOS GATOS, Cal., November 20, 2014 – Planar Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLNR), a global leader in display and digital signage technology, and BrightSign, LLC®, the global market leader in digital signage media players, today announced their recent collaboration to create the world’s tallest Planar® Mosaic™ Architectural Video Wall. The installation was unveiled in early November at a high-end Miami-area hotel as part of its grand opening festivities. This new hotel is situated in Surfside, Florida, nestled between Miami Beach and Bal Harbour.

To create stunning visual impact for guests as they arrive, Florida-based CMA was commissioned to install a towering four-story video wall in the reception area. CMA surveyed vendors across the entire digital signage spectrum and ultimately decided to feature BrightSign digital signage media players and Planar Systems displays.

“With a high-profile installation like this, it’s important that the deployment be artistically breathtaking with perfect synchronization and 24/7 reliability – that’s why we chose BrightSign and Planar,” said Cesar Cifuentes, founder and president of CMA. “The beautiful Planar Mosaic displays work seamlessly with BrightSign’s players to create a finished product that perfectly complements the look of the hotel.”

Adding to the allure, the hotel’s glass walls make the video wall visible from the street as well as the lobby. This impressive video wall brings landmark status to the hotel, helping it stand out among its peers in this stylish stretch of Florida coastline.

The Planar Mosaic architectural video wall solution allows the ultra-thin LCD display tiles to be mounted in any position relative to one another. This makes possible the towering video wall in which the twenty 55” displays are placed at a 90-degree angle to one another, creating a beautiful herringbone pattern. The displays’ unencumbered positioning flexibility, off-board power supplies and sophisticated imaging software enabled CMA to design and install the video wall in such a way that simply would not have been possible using displays from any other manufacturer.

“Our vision for architectural video walls is well demonstrated in this impressive hospitality installation,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing at Planar Systems. “By consulting with the client in the first stages of the design process, CMA’s installation has become a focal point visible from the street, and is destined to be an iconic, instantly-recognizable fixture in the model Miami architectural landscape.”

Planar Mosaic video walls coupled with BrightSign’s media players give designers endless possibilities for creative expression. The installation is a stunning example of what is achievable when a cutting-edge integrator teams with a digital signage market leader.

Planar Expands Clarity Matrix Video Wall Line with Two New Ultra-Narrow Bezel Models

New 3.7mm bezel models make award-winning Clarity Matrix the most comprehensive line of video wall displays in the market

Control room mappingPORTLAND, Ore., October 21, 2014 – Planar Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLNR), a global leader in display and digital signage technology, today announced two new ultra-narrow bezel LCD models in its line of Clarity™ Matrix LCD Video Wall System with G2 Architecture, bringing superior visual performance to an even wider variety of video wall applications.

The two new Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture options include a 46” model with 800 nits brightness and a 55” model with 500 nits brightness. The new models feature a tiled bezel width of just 3.7mm (0.15 inches) between adjacent LCD displays for a near-seamless image.  In addition to the new offerings, Planar has also extended video and power transmission capabilities on its entire family of Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall models to support distances of 500 feet (150 meters).

Earlier this year, Planar set new technological benchmarks with the introduction of its new G2 Architecture for the Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall family, as well as its first LED LCD video wall model with a tiled bezel width of 3.7 mm. Now, with the additional ultra-narrow bezel models, as well as Planar’s interactive touch and 3D models, the award-winning Clarity Matrix family of LCD video wall solutions features the broadest line of ultra-narrow bezel displays in the industry.

Customer reaction to Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture has been incredibly positive,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing at Planar Systems. “The addition of new Clarity Matrix models with smaller tiled bezel width gives Planar the broadest product offering in the LCD video wall category and opens up new applications for our highperformance technology.”

Unique Design Delivers Slim Profile and Mission-Critical Reliability

Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture video wall displays are built for 24/7 reliability in the most mission-critical control room environments, as well as digital signage.

“The addition of the new thinner bezel 46” and 55” Clarity Matrix models allows resellers to offer customers more options for smaller bezel video walls and expands the market for LCD video walls,” said Bill Apter, senior consultant with Avitecture, Inc., an audiovisual integrator in Sterling, Virginia. “The Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture system delivers no-compromise visual performance with superb image quality, perfectly aligned panels, ultra high resolution and allowed us to reduce installation costs for our customers.”

The expanded line-up offers even more flexibility to meet a wide variety of installation challenges. The Clarity Matrix video wall system design eliminates the need for AC power outlets behind the displays. With the electronics and power supply off-board, the weight, depth, heat and potential points of failure can be placed in a convenient location for easy maintenance. Built-in video extension capabilities have been expanded so electronics can be co-located with the source up to 500 feet (150 meters) away from the video wall. A single remote power supply module can power up to six displays.

Together, the technological advances and award-winning design of Clarity Matrix gives customers a comprehensive, cutting-edge video wall system designed to reduce total-cost-of-ownership.

The new Clarity Matrix MX46HDU and LX55HDU models are available through Planar’s global network of authorized resellers and will begin shipping in calendar Q4 2014. Planar Rolls Out Clarity Matrix Video Wall Calculato

First-of-its-kind online tool makes it easier, faster and more accurate to design and install video walls

PORTLAND, Ore., May 13, 2014–
Planar Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLNR), a global leader in display and digital signage technology, has unveiled the Clarity™ Matrix Video Wall Calculator, a free, online tool that simplifies the video wall selection process by simulating for users what their Clarity™ Matrix LCD Video Wall will look like even before they make the purchase.

The first-of-its-kind tool, the Clarity Matrix Video Wall Calculator enables users to quickly and easily configure a LCD video wall for their project, preview it with their own content and download the results—complete with specification data, installation diagrams and custom renderings. The free calculator is designed to make the selection process more successful for anyone considering a video wall, including system integrators, designers, consultants and end users.

“The Clarity Matrix Video Wall Calculator simplifies the selection and configuration of a video wall system by reducing the process from hours to minutes and making it available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any PC, tablet or smart phone,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing at Planar Systems. “It offers a very unique online visualization experience that clients love, and distills a vast quantity of data down to exactly what they need to proceed with their video wall project.”

Simplifying the Video Wall Selection Process

The easy-to-navigate Clarity Matrix Calculator was built for Planar’s recent launch of the Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall System with G2 Architecture to help customers design and specify video walls with greater ease, speed and accuracy. It includes an attractive user interface, advanced room customization features and detailed installation mechanics. Users can compare different display models side-by-side on the same wall. They can also upload and preview their own content, while exporting detailed images, schematics and data straight into their sales proposal or project specification.

“The new Clarity Matrix Calculator really helps to shorten the video wall sales cycle,” said Matt Pullen, sales manager with CCS Presentation Systems. “Our clients love seeing their own content on the proposed video wall even before they’ve made their choice. The Clarity Matrix Video Wall Calculator is a time-saving resource that is intuitive and extremely informative.”

A Complete Set of Information

The only tool on the market that can generate such a complete set of information, the Clarity Matrix Video Wall Calculator is the place to start when selecting a tiled video array of ultra-narrow bezel LCD displays. With this calculator, users can:

  • Create a graphical rendering of the video wall by choosing the model and orientation of the displays and entering the desired display configuration. The rendering can be previewed online or exported as an image to include in product proposals or to share with clients.
  • Configure a room by defining the size of the room, choosing one of several custom room environments and selecting a wall color to customize the conceptual design.
  • Visualize custom content by uploading their own image or video or selecting from a preset list of content options to make the video wall come to life.
  • Compare models and configurations by selecting two models or display configurations and viewing a side-by-side comparison of specification data.
  • Understand the environmental and design impact of their video wall by determining the dimensions, weight, power consumption and heat load for their selected video wall configuration, which can be exported into Excel for additional analysis.
  • Generate schematics by previewing a mechanical drawing of the mounting array for the video wall that shows dimensions, drill hole patterns, and cable details that can be exported, saving hours of custom CAD design work.
  • Export their results by downloading a PDF file summary, which serves as a personal datasheet of their video wall configurations complete with images, schematics and specification data.
  • Quickly obtain a quote by clicking on a link directly from within the calculator.

The Clarity Matrix Calculator can be used from a range of devices including PCs, smartphones and tablets, and requires no software installation or registration. To use the calculator, please visit www.planar.com/matrixcalculator or watch a video demonstration of the calculator on Planar’s You Tube channel.

Planar Showcases the Industry’s Largest Interactive Display with Corning® Gorilla® Glass

LAS VEGAS, February 12, 2014–Today, at the Digital Signage Expo 2014 in Las Vegas, Planar Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLNR), a global leader in display and digital signage  technology, unveiled the breakthrough 84-inch 4K Planar® UltraRes™  Touch with ERO™ featuring Corning® Gorilla® Glass.

By combining Planar’s exclusive Extended Ruggedness and Optics (ERO) optical glass bonding technology with Gorilla Glass, an industry-leading cover solution, the 84-inch 4K Planar UltraRes Touch is durable and scratch resistant,  making it ideal for digital signage and public venue applications. Planar UltraRes Touch now also supports up to 32 simultaneous touch points, offering the ultimate solution for multi-user applications, including collaboration walls and touch tables.

“The addition of Corning Gorilla Glass to our proprietary ERO optical bonding technology further enhances the durability and visual performance of the Planar UltraRes Touch display,” said Becky Connors, product marketing manager at Planar Systems. “By dramatically increasing the number of touch points, we’ve made it possible for organizations to create highly immersive and engaging experiences.”

For retail stores, museums, hospitality and corporate lobbies, Planar UltraRes Touch offers the durability and flexibility needed for a robust interactive experience.  Planar UltraRes Touch also provides the key features necessary for corporate meeting rooms where touch capability enhances group collaboration.

Built for Unsurpassed Durability and Performance

With Planar’s ERO technology, Corning Gorilla Glass is optically bonded to the LCD cell using a proprietary process unique to Planar, providing exceptional durability and performance.  The ERO process keeps out dust and moisture and improves image contrast by eliminating the air gap between the display and the glass. Gorilla Glass is more than four times stronger than tempered soda-lime glass, which enables a substantially-thinner design, and it better resists scratches that can cause the glass to break. Due to the Gorilla Glass’ thinness, parallax and the resulting touch errors are reduced, weight is decreased, while touch sensitivity and display responsiveness are improved.

“We are thrilled for the launch of Planar’s 84-inch UltraRes Touch featuring the world’s largest piece of Gorilla Glass,” said David Loeber, business director for Large Cover Glass at Corning Incorporated. “Planar’s expertise in commercial signage hardware and optical bonding paired with Corning’s expertise in advanced glass solutions yields an innovative product and a great opportunity for collaboration.”

Designed for Style and Function

Planar UltraRes Touch offers a sleek design with an attractive, narrow bezel of just 1.3 inches, providing an elegant backdrop for stunning ultra-high resolution content. It has a mounted depth of only 3.6 inches, making it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for protruding objects in public environments. The display supports both landscape and portrait orientation, and a logo-free bezel makes it equally practical to use the display in either mode.

With a native 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160, Planar UltraRes Touch provides four times the resolution of a full HD display for advanced clarity—even at short viewing distances for touch users. And with optically-clear Gorilla Glass, every detail is displayed with outstanding color rendition, contrast, and resolution.

Planar UltraRes Touch displays come standard with Planar MediaPlex™ software, which allows up to eight directly attached sources to be viewed, four at a time, in 42-inch diagonal full HD quadrants. Upon command, any of the quadrants can be upscaled to fill the entire 4K display area. Available only from Planar, this feature provides a unique way to display both touch and non-touch content on the same display.

Planar UltraRes Touch displays featuring Corning Gorilla Glass and 32 touch points will be available through Planar’s global network of authorized resellers in the second calendar quarter of 2014. Visit Booth #405 at the Digital Signage Expo 2014 to learn more about the Planar UltraRes Touch and to see a demonstration. Additional information is available at http://www.planar.com/ultrares.
