Shotoku Makes Gains With El Financiero ׀ Bloomberg TV

UNIQUE VR TRACKING SYSTEM DELIVERS AUGMENTED REALITY SOLUTION FOR FINANCIAL NEWS BROADCASTER IN MEXICO CITY

Mexico City – Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a leading international manufacturer of advanced camera support products, has announced the recent installation of its highly regarded Shotoku TK-53LVR Dolly Crane System for a Virtual Studio at El Financiero|Bloomberg TV, a station based in Mexico City that broadcasts, through an alliance with Bloomberg NY, both worldwide and local financial-based programming to Mexico and Central America. The sale was facilitated through long-time Shotoku dealer Comtelsat, based in Mexico City with offices in US, Brazil and Central America, to help the station deliver stunning graphics and visuals to viewers.

According to Ricardo Granada, IT & TV support manager, El Financiero|Bloomberg TV, the station is using the TK-53LVR system, alongside a Vizrt Virtual Studio solution, Grass Valley LDX camera dedicated to the Shotoku system, and a Kayak production switcher, as an augmented reality system, for the graphics and statistics, as well as logos of the station’s sponsors in some sections. It is used for augmented reality and virtual elements matched to the real studio.

“They don’t use a traditional lower third or a bumper to show some sponsored section of the news show,” explains Angélica Elizalde, sales executive and specialist in graphic solutions for Comtelsat. “Instead, they use the logo of the sponsor in augmented reality during the whole section — which is way more spectacular, since the anchor is interacting with the virtual element. Also, the anchors can present statistics and schemes that come out right from the floor of the studio — which is a simpler and more creative way to present the information to the audiences. And those graphics can get sponsored, too.”

“We knew the brand from other installations and knew it was a reliable and very stable system,” says Granada. “We were quite impressed because of the length of the crane and the possibilities it has for live production; and also by the fact that no other vendor has a product with the same quality, accuracy and level of service we are used to receive from Shotoku.”

The Shotoku TK-53LVR Dolly Crane System for Virtual Studio offers a unique set of VR features coupled with a sturdy twin arm structure that provides vibration-free, high performance with a single operator. The VR Dolly Crane System allows any studio to be easily transformed into a virtual environment without the need for targets on the ceiling, floors, or walls, or infrared sensors. Reliable, accurate and immediate VR data, including pan/tilt, zoom, focus and X/Y camera date is sent to the graphic computer via an RS422 cable. A Pan Bar control unit maximizes optimal pan & tilt operation. The TK-53LVR also features Shotoku’s unique SPi-Touch 2 point calibration system for quick set-up.

“We’ve been dealers for Shotoku for a number of years, and we have always preferred the system because of its reliability and accuracy in the mechanical tracking data –it’s just the best,” adds Elizalde. “They can have a 360-degree tracking of virtual elements; the arm of the crane is totally vibration free (no matter the length of it, which is quite large). They can make a very large range of movements without worrying about undesired bumping; plus they just need one operator to manage the whole system (nevertheless, they often use two people just to make sure, but most of the time is just one). Also, unlike some other systems, Shotoku guarantees that there won’t be any delay or loss on the receiving of the mechanical tracking data.”

Granada adds, “I have been a user for a few years, but I never worked with a crane system, so this was a challenge. Nevertheless, the system has proved to be as reliable as all other Shotoku products I know. Once you get to know it, it is fairly simple and straightforward to use. Overall, it’s easy to manage, it’s accurate and the final result is always impressive.”

As mayor she donated her salary to local worthy causes, or to needy people, and every fall, as school opens, Sandri leads the charge to work with United Way and donate supplies, such as backpacks and notebooks, to children whose families are having a difficult time keeping up with the economy.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by InfoComm, an organization of which I am proud to be a member,” Sandri stated. “I am lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderfully talented, smart and generous women, and men, in the AV industry who prove everyday that everyone is capable of helping others to effect change, whether it be in business or community.”

BHV Broadcast to Show Seriously Expanded Video Ghost Series at NAB 2014

Video Phantom Power System to Offer HDMI Monitoring, a Rack-Mount Version, and a Digital Signage Solution

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of compact, cost-effective equipment for live and post-production will show a seriously expanded Video Ghost series at NAB2014, Booth C 3841.

• Video Ghost – Sleek, sexy and affordable, Video Ghost lets you run power and serial digital (SD/HD/3G) video over a single coaxial cable. Video Ghost now offers enhanced cable length performance up to 200m from the camera or monitor and a maximum power output of 65W (both ratings may depend on signal format and application). Multi-layer protection circuitry prevents inadvertent damage caused by mis-connection. This powerful alternative to batteries is especially relevant for installing cameras or monitors where the supply of power is difficult or hazardous, such as gantries, stage sets, sports arenas and amphitheatres.

NEW at NAB – Ghost now provides optional HDMI monitoring of SD/HD/3G video feeds.

• GhostRack – On show for the first time! The rack-mounted version of BHV’s friendly spirit offers 4 channels of Video Ghost Power Over Coax in a 2RU x 19″ rack case with integral power supply and front panel monitoring. Ideal for mounting in an OB and powering four remote monitors or cameras over the video cables!

• Video Ghost is being introduced as a low-cost and reliable power source for Digital Signage applications. The ‘fit-and-forget’ system provides an innovative and unique way to get power to a monitor on a stage floor or in an arena roof, and eliminates the need for local mains power for monitors.

“Video Ghost is ideal for short-term or permanent applications that utilise monitors for digital signage such as entertainment venues, retail establishments and houses of worship,” explained Julian Hiorns, BHV Broadcast’s managing director. “Operational benefits include portability and rapid deployment – important features for mobile productions and difficult locations where monitoring is required, and the flexibility to send or receive video signals and DC power wherever and whenever the need arises.”

BHV Broadcast’s Syntax Up-Converter Series Adds Closed Captions Capability

First US Demonstrations of Syntax Bridge Slated for NAB 2014 in Booth C3841

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of award-winning rate-converters, up-converters and the innovative coax-powering solution Video Ghost, will introduce the US market to Syntax Bridge at NAB 2014. The newest member of the Syntax up-converter series provides closed captions capability via integration with Microvideo’s HDB 300 data management system. The first US demonstrations are slated to be held in Booth C3841 at the LVCC.

Syntax Bridge, recipient of TV Technology’s IBC 2013 STAR award, was developed in response to the growing global requirement for closed captions as part of the retention of metadata through the broadcast chain. Now broadcasters and producers can enjoy the benefit of Syntax’s unrivalled quality HD up-conversion with closed captions. BHV’s award-winning Syntax up-scaler integration with Microvideo’s HDB 300 (which in itself provides simultaneous data management of control signals, trans-coding, decoding, bridging and copying) will allow broadcasters to utilize the artefact-free performance of the Syntax in distribution and production chains with massive metadata handling capability.

BHV Broadcast’s managing director, Julian Hiorns, commented “The combination of BHV’s extraordinary Syntax up-converter combined with Microvideo’s HDB 300 provides an unparalleled solution to the latest closed caption compliance requirements. We’re delighted to demonstrate this exciting new technology at NAB and make it available in the Americas.”

BHV’s Syntax series uses Super-Resolution Bandlet technology, a natural successor to motion compensation, for virtually transparent conversions.

In her new position, Sansivero will also be responsible for educating the market about new opportunities for interactive and collaborative learning systems offered by FSR, embedding the company as a primary or top-tier manufacturer of installations in higher-education and K-12 buildings and campuses. Working with integrators and consultants to identify key opportunities for FSR to further address the specific needs of the education market, Sansivero will build relationships with educational contacts and uncover ideas and applications for even more comprehensive and cohesive products clearing a path for company growth in the education marketplace.

“We are thrilled to welcome someone of Gina’s caliber to join the FSR team and help us continue to expand our role as a leading manufacturer within the education market,” said Sandri. “As technology continues to change, along with the needs of those working in a learning environment, it’s imperative that we remain on the cutting edge and continue to supply our customer base with products that specifically address their needs. We are confident that Gina will help us reach our goals.”

Introduced to the audiovisual industry early in 2005, Sansivero has embraced it ever since. She first worked in sales and marketing, and then became a partner at RelampIt in New York. Recognizing an industry need, she combined her passions of environmental responsibility and education to launch Project Green AV (www.projectgreenav.com) in 2008. An industry portal for GreenAV information and dialogue, Project Green AV addresses the changing needs and is a facilitator for Green AV education, news, products, industry highlights and connections. Similarly, Sansivero has helped RelampIt to consistently grow into a well-recognized replacement projection lamp business as a preferred sustainable vendor-partner to AV systems integrators and the vertical markets the AV industry touches. In 2011, Sansivero was awarded the Young AV Professional Award by industry association, InfoComm. Sansivero is also involved with a number of organizations including the Huntington Chamber of Commerce Green and Education committees in New York, Seatuck Sustainability Business Council, the Long Island Volunteer Enterprise (LIVE), and is a regular contributor to rAVe Blog Squad.

“FSR is a recognized, stable and well-respected part of our industry and I am truly excited to have this opportunity to be part of the team,” said Sansivero. “Not only is FSR’s commitment to quality, service and ethical business practices aligned with my own professional values, but I view Jan Sandri as a mentor. This position will allow me the opportunity for continued growth under her ‘coaching,’ while also working in the education market, which I truly love. I welcome the challenges this new position will surely bring and will move ahead with a fresh mind-set to help expand this established company even further into new markets.”
