Woodland Park, NJ – FSR, a Passaic County-based manufacturer of products for the audio / video, education, hospitality, government, and religious markets, has reached a 10-year milestone in its support of the local community by once again partnering with United Way of Passaic County for the highly successful “Backpacks 4 Kids” program. Regionally, this is the largest initiative of its kind in the region. By donating essential school supplies, such as 50 backpacks filled with notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers and crayons, along with 50 lunch boxes, FSR joins other local businesses and the United Way of Passaic County in their efforts to help more than 900 local students with the essential school supplies they need for the school year ahead.

“Looking back now, it’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since we first started participating in this extremely important program,” said Jan Sandri, FSR’s president. “FSR has always been and remains an active member of the Passaic County community and our participation in this outstanding program is just one example of our local commitment. We are truly honored to be able to help properly prepare our local kids for the new school year.”

With the contributions and generous support of our local residents and businesses, such as Jan Sandri and her team at FSR, we are able to start developing today the community leaders of tomorrow.”

Stagecraft Audio Finds Smooth Sailing With Cobalt Digital’s Blue Box Group

Units deliver lightweight, practical conversion solution

Urbana, IL – Cobalt Digital, manufacturer of award-winning 3G/HD/SD-SDI conversion gear, has delivered a practical signal conversion solution to Stagecraft Audio, a full service sound, lighting and AV company located in Newport, RI that specializes in large-scale projects ranging from corporate events to broadcast applications. After evaluating options for lightweight, easy-to-install conversion gear that delivers a pristine signal, Stagecraft chose eight of Cobalt’s Blue Box Group™ BBG S-to-H (SDI to HDMI) and one BBG H-to-S (HDMI to SDI) unit.

The BBG S-to-H units provide direct conversion from SMPTE 259M, 292M and 424M SDI to HDMI and feature easy to use DIP switch sets YPbPr or RGB colorspace and HDMI or DVI output modes. The H-to-S model provides true 3G and HD conversions from HDMI to SMPTE 424M, 292M, or 259M. The HDMI input can also receive and convert DVI-D sources (limited to SMPTE HD formats).

“Cobalt’s BBG units have already proved their value during a recent event in the Arcadia Room of the New York Yacht Club in Newport,” said Frank Dwyer, Stagecraft Audio’s owner. “I’d worked in that same room many times before, but having the boxes this time really made the difference. The BBG took the signal out of the client’s laptop on the podium, sent it through my video switcher and I was able to hit the displays around the room without extension cords and with no signal degradation at all. It was easy and worked perfectly!”

Other features that tipped the scales in Cobalt’s favor are the boxes ability to power directly via USB as well as their lightweight, small footprint. “The boxes are USB powered, and that’s wonderful,” exclaimed Dwyer. “Previously, I had to run cables to hit each TV, now we can run power from USB to each display. The boxes are also light enough to sit on the back of a TV with Velcro. I can just slap it on the TV and leave it there. It’s part of the TV now and has made the process so much easier.”

Dwyer’s experience with Cobalt was also enhanced by excellent sales support. “I got the runaround from other companies because I didn’t want to buy in bulk,” he explained. “I found the Cobalt’s Blue Box Group on their web site, sent an email, and the very next day Anthony Klick, Cobalt’s eastern sales manager, not only contacted me, but came by to discuss the best solution for my needs. I was so impressed with the physical and technical features of the products and with the service that I ordered nine units and have plans for more in the future.”

Cobalt Digital’s Quint-Split Video Processor for openGear Takes Home ‘Best of Show Award’ at IBC 2014

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS — The 9970-QS Quint-Split Video Processor for openGear® manufactured by Cobalt Digital, is the recipient of one of the industry’s most prestigious technology honours, NewBay Media’s Best of Show Award, presented at the 2014 IBC Show in Amsterdam by TV Technology Europe magazine.

NewBay Media’s Best of Show Awards recognise outstanding new products exhibited at the IBC2014. Entries were evaluated by panels of professional users and editors and selected based on innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry. Only a handful of products were chosen from among dozens of entries. Cobalt’s 9970-QS Quint-5plit card was singled out because it provides a much-needed monitoring solution in the openGear platform that allows a customer to view multiple video feeds on a single monitor. With both SDI and HDMI outputs a user has the ability to feed the monitoring output into a plant router, or go directly into a consumer monitor. By accepting both composite and digital inputs, the 9970 has a versatility for both analogue and digital environments. Each video feed is represented by a “PiP” (Picture in Picture) that can be customised for size and position on the monitor. Other elements of the signal like audio levels, timecode, video format, and video source based on router integration, can be displayed for each individual source being monitored. Each PiP also has three GPI associated with it that can be used to control two tallies and one border for visual cues to operators. Presets can be used to recall layout changes making setting-up before shows quick and easy. The 9970-QS was developed with the end-user in mind, providing ease of set-up, with intuitive controls via custom GUI.

“We are enormously proud of our Best of Show recipients,” says TV Technology Europe Publisher Steve Connolly. “Recognition with an award at the IBC Show from NewBay Media’s Broadcast & Video Group is a strong vote of confidence and admiration from our leading industry publications.”

“Bringing practical products to market that help our customers become more efficient and productive is quite satisfying on its own merit, but being recognised by industry experts for innovation is a bonus indeed,” commented Chris Shaw, Cobalt’s executive vice president of sales & marketing. “We are delighted to accept another award and will continue our legacy of developing solutions that result from customer feedback. It’s a win-win formula for success all-around!”

Shotoku Boosts Studio Capabilities of National Spanish Broadcaster

Versatile Robotic Pan/Tilt System Delivers Big For Major Madrid Media Group

Madrid, Spain – Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a leading international manufacturer of advanced camera support products, has announced the recent installation of a robotically controlled system comprising numerous pan and tilt heads and dual 16-camera control systems at Atresmedia Corporación de Medios de Comunicación, S.A. The Madrid-based Spanish media group, a national broadcaster, maintains a significant presence in the television, radio and cinema industries. The sale was made through Shotoku’s regional reseller Datos Media.

After in-depth testing and on-site demonstrations, the Shotoku systems — seven TG-18 robotic pan and tilt heads and two 16-camera TR-T control systems — were selected by Atresmedia Corporación as key pieces of its re-launched and refurbished studio to replace its older gear.

“Since the first test, we were satisfied with the overall capability of Shotoku’s system, both operationally and technically,” says Fernando García del Rey, Head of Studio Operations, Atresmedia. “The system works well, operators find it easy to use, and the support we get from Shotoku, with Datos Media, has been excellent.”

According to James Eddershaw, Shotoku sales director, Atresmedia is a brand new client and the first order with Shotoku’s newly appointed agent in the region, Datos Media, signaling a major win for the company. “I am delighted to be working with Atresmedia – one of Spain’s leading national broadcasters with a long history of experience in robotic camera systems,” says Eddershaw. “To be selected by them after a detailed evaluation, is praise indeed for our systems.”
The Datos team worked very closely with the Atresmedia crew during installation and provided full training on-site once the system was integrated. Now, the station is live and on-air every day.

“We were extremely pleased to be able to supply a large Shotoku system to Atresmedia, especially so soon after partnering with Shotoku in Spain,” says Tomas Nielsen, managing director, Datos Media. “Like Atresmedia, we were happy with the way the project went, with very smooth integration into the existing studio environment and all completed on time.”

The TG-18 has a 56kg payload capacity making it ideal for any ENG camera/lens combinations in typical studio configurations including the usual accessories such as viewfinder, hand controls and teleprompter/preview monitor. The TG-18 offers exceptional pan and tilt control, allowing complete freedom for on-air adjustments from the control systems. The head combines all the features expected of a high performance remote pan and tilt head (i.e. high accuracy, smooth movement, silent operation and high payload) with a full manual override capability.

The completely configurable screen layouts of the TR-T system supports 16 cameras, capable of being controlled by a single operator position, and displayed in any configuration to suit the particular requirements of the program. The TR-T panel style uses multicolored illuminated keys to communicate system status and control settings, with the same high precision joystick for ultra-smooth, on-air control that has become the trademark of a Shotoku system.

Staines, United Kingdom – Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a leading international manufacturer of advanced camera support products, has named Trevor Sword its new Technical Sales Manager. James Eddershaw, Shotoku’s sales director, made the announcement from the company’s UK office where Sword will be based.

According to Eddershaw, Sword will be responsible for advancing sales of the company’s full range of robotic camera systems, increasing Shotoku’s customer base around the world, and supporting the company’s agents.

Open face design facilitates quick access to cables

Woodland Park, NJ – FSR, leading manufacturer of a wide variety of products for the audio/video, education, hospitality, government, and religious markets, continues to expand its infrastructure line of Wall Box solutions with the introduction of the PWB-353 Wall Box unit. Featuring an open face design with a white interior and white extended trim ring, rather than a closed cover, this model facilitates quick access to cables and connectors without cover removal.

The PWB-353 features multiple knockouts for power and openings for up to six single IPS connector plates. At 3-inches deep, it is designed for use in 3-inch or 4-inch stud walls. The extended trim ring provides a clean appearance while covering rough cuts in the drywall created during installation.
“We are always pleased to be able to offer industry professionals working in the audio/video markets cost-effective solutions that help make their jobs easier,” said Jan Sandri, FSR president. “With our new PWB-353 Wall Box unit, we are confident that we are doing just that. Users can even add LITE-it to easily provide lighting.” FSR’s new award-winning LITE-IT securely fastens to any ferrous metal surface and easily provides lighting in floor, wall and ceiling boxes, or anywhere a work light is needed.

Key features of the PWB-353 Wall Box include: A rugged 16 gauge steel back box, simple installation
features, quick access to cables and connectors, multiple knockouts in a variety of sizes and included hardware.
