Cobalt Digital’s Dual-Channel MPEG Encoder Delivers for IMS Productions

Urbana, IL – IMS Productions, the media and technology partner to the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has taken delivery of Cobalt Digital’s new 9223 dual-channel 3G/HD/SD MPEG-4 encoder to transport multiple feeds to various devices for Verizon IndyCar race coverage. The announcement was made by Chris Shaw, senior vp sales and marketing, from Cobalt’s headquarters in Urbana, IL.

The 9223 will send live signals to Verizon’s IndyCar app for mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets, as well as to car cameras and to race officials’ “race control” panel on the day of the race via a live car position track map generated from timing and scoring data and audio scanner feeds.

“Cobalt’s 9223 met all three of our main criteria: ease of use, form factor, and an appealing cost point,” exclaimed Steve Stiles, IMS Productions director, post-production. “The project requires multiple feeds created on the road in a mobile setting which means rack space is at a premium. A scalable card-based solution is ideal for this situation, and the 9223 dual-channel encoder is giving us just what we need.”

The 9223’s openGear® open architecture platform enables IMS scalable incorporation into their infrastructure and easy to use Dashboard setup and control operator interface. Up to ten 9223 cards can be installed into a single 8321 openGear frame for delivery of up to 20 individual or simulcast channels. Offering the latest advances in video compression for excellent video quality at very low bit rates, the 9223 unique encoding designs allow delivery of multiple HD and SD video services simultaneously. The card has both two ASI outputs and two Ethernet outputs, supporting full-duplex 100Mb/s and IGb/s operation. Full user remote and card-edge monitor/control facilitates full card status and control access locally or across a standard Ethernet network.

IMS Productions supplies a full range of media services from two state-of-the-art HD trucks and a fleet of support vehicles for every major network. “Our customers demand the highest level of quality possible, and that is reflected in the cutting edge technology that we employ,” added Stiles.

Cobalt Digital Plans To Keep Customers CALM & In Control at NAB 2012

Urbana, IL – Cobalt Digital (www.CobaltDigital.com), manufacturer of award-winning 3G/HD/SD-SDI conversion gear for broadcast environments, has announced plans to show new technologies at NAB 2012 that add value-laden options to the Company’s loudness processing and metering offerings. Chris Shaw, Cobalt’s senior VP of sales and marketing, released details of LMNTS™ – a multi-channel loudness processing over IP solution, SPOTCHECK™ – a monitoring and logging tool, and logging and graphing upgrades to Cobalt’s loudness metering system. The innovations will be demonstrated on Cobalt’s booth N 1929 in the North Hall.

LMNTS (Multi-channel loudness processing over IP)
Ideal for MVPDs and MSOs where a large number of diverse programming sources must be simultaneously controlled, LMNTS performs automatic loudness processing across many transport streams.

LMNTS can operate with diverse audio codecs, extracting the packets from program streams, performing industry leading AEROMAX loudness management in the PCM domain, then re-encoding and re-packeting the audio with its stream. Physically, all data connection to LMNTS is via GigE IP interfaces over an industry-standard IT hardware platform, with no intermediary breakouts.

LMNTS works with single and multi program streams, and supports all video codecs. AV synchronization is perfectly maintained, as audio data is rewritten in place. Packet timing, PES alignment, PID structure, and stream metadata are all preserved.

SPOTCHECK
SPOTCHECK monitors an IP or ASI MPEG stream at the transit encode point to measure and log ALL material emanating from facilities in larger operations using multi-program MPEG streams.
Operating at emission MPEG level and leveraging automation as-run data, SPOTCHECK maintains a complete log of all program segments. Compliance records can be graphically queried or queried by using as-run search entries, ranging over several minutes to several months.

Logging and Graphing Upgrades to Loudness Metering System
The easy to use, yet comprehensive option ensures thorough audio level and LKFS assessment. Cobalt’s loudness meter software integrates with the Company’s Fusion3G range and most 9000-series COMPASS cards, and works with the award-winning OGCP-9000 Remote Control Panel and WINOGCP Desktop Virtual Control Panel to provide a flexible, complete solution for ingest or on-air loudness measurement, assessment and records. Cards forward audio measurement data to the control panel over the plant’s Ethernet network.

Nearly New
9257 1×9 MADI Audio Distribution Amplifier
Card-based solution for AES10 MADI signal distribution. Card supports sampling frequencies up to 96 kHz, with a 64-channel payload supported at industry standard 48 kHz sampling rate (other sampling rates specified as valid per AES10-2003 also supported at various payload capacities). openGear® open-architecture platform offers scalable incorporation and easy-to-use DashBoard™ setup.

Shotoku Broadcast’s New Pan Bar Control System To Target Sports Events

Robotic System Featuring Operational Ease Presented at NAB 2012

Torrance, CA • Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a well-established leader in camera support and virtual reality tracking, has revealed plans to launch of its new Gemini Pan Bar Control System (PBCS) that offers uncompromised and easy operation for hard-to-reach sites such as sports events. Gemini make its world-wide debut at NAB 2012 in Booth C 8528 alongside Shotoku’s popular TR-T touch control system and the SPI-Touch unique positional calibration method for Virtual Studios.

NEW
Gemini Pan Bar Control System (PBCS)
Shotoku launches the new Gemini PBCS system, aimed at sports and special event productions where cameras need to be where cameramen cannot go.

Gemini brings together two of Shotoku’s most advanced products from the Robotics and Manual VR Tracking ranges to provide a remote pan & tilt head so perfectly synchronized with the manual head that they truly act as one. Camera operators can work without compromise, in comfort and safety, wherever the camera needs to be.

Immediate control over the tracking speed, direction, range and ratio is provided at the touch of a button so any event can be captured close-up or telephoto, at low or high speed. Dedicated hardware tracking and a simple RS422 interconnection makes setup quick and easy and ensures highly reliable operation, time after time. The Gemini system can even support multiple remote heads, so a single operator may seamlessly switch between cameras to give any view point on the action.

Any Shotoku remote head can be used to suit the payload and required location while the SH series manual VR tracking head provides exceptional tracking resolution under all conditions. Dual pan bars, adjustable balance and an easy-fix monitor support platform make the system comfortable to use over extended periods.

Gemini is already in demand – several systems will be deployed across high-profile venues throughout major international sporting events in London this summer.

HIGHLIGHTS
TR-T Touch Control System
Shotoku’s latest version of its successful TR-T touch control system offers an enhanced system operation to meet demands of larger, complex facility-wide installations as well as smaller systems. The flexible TR-T system enables any control system in any location to easily and rapidly re-configure control of cameras and studios in other physical locations. Automated functions allow precise control over shot recall, with minimal intervention, enabling an operator to truly multi-task, without losing any on-air flexibility.

SPI-Touch
SPI-Touch offers a totally new way of positional calibration for Virtual Studios. Simply designate two different points through SPI-Touch’s viewfinder and press the button at each of the points. The camera position will be instantly calibrated. SPI-Touch eliminates the need to mark the studio floor and move the pedestal making calibration easy and fast.
