FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables Receives rAVe Reviews at InfoComm 2013

Mega-Bandwidth HDMI Cables Take Home “Best New Accessory” Award from rAVe [Publications]

Orlando, FL – FSR’s new Digital Ribbon mega-bandwidth HDMI cables were a hit with attendees and judges alike at this year’s InfoComm. The cost and time saving innovation received an outstanding reception by attendees, and was recognized with a 2013 Best of InfoComm Award as “Best New AV Accessory” by rAVe [Publications].

“We are proud to add this award to our growing trophy room!” said FSR president Jan Sandri. “It’s an amazing honor to have our Digital Ribbon Cables singled-out as the best-of-the-best by rAVe at InfoComm 2013, an event that showcased more new products and technology than ever before.”

Based upon a proprietary composite technology, FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables took home the “Best New AV Accessory” award for its capacity to carry 1080p and 4k x 2k HDMI signals up to 325 feet, nearly twice that of other “extended” solutions, with crystal clear accuracy. The product’s ultra-simple, fast installation (just pull and plug), and money-saving ability to operate without transmitters or receivers add to its appeal.

FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables Offer Price-Pleasing Solution for Simple Installions

Award-winning Innovation Made Global Debut at InfoComm

Woodland Park, NJ – FSR president Jan Sandri has announced the availability of the Company’s new Digital Ribbon mega-bandwidth HDMI cables. First shown at InfoComm 2013, the innovation received an outstanding reception by attendees, and was recognized with a 2013 Best of InfoComm Award as “Best New AV Accessory” by rAVe [Publications].

FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables save installation time and money while providing the highest quality Images over the longest distances. Based upon a proprietary composite technology, the cable packs 10.2 Gb/Sec of bandwidth in a cable profile that is only 5mm x 2.5mm. This allows Digital Ribbon to carry 1080p and 4k x 2k HDMI signals up to 325 feet, nearly twice that of other “extended” solutions, with crystal clear accuracy.

“We didn’t want just another ‘me too’ HDMI extender product. In fact, we already have two of those. We wanted something new, something that outperforms everyone else, that is easier to install and costs less. Digital Ribbon is the answer,” exclaimed Sandri

Digital Ribbon is a money saving solution. First, Digital Ribbon is a cable. Simply pull the cable, plug it in on both ends and you are done. Installation could not be faster. Second, Digital Ribbon does not require transmitters or receivers to work. This means no black boxes to hide and no wall warts to plug in. Lastly, Digital Ribbon is far less expensive than an “extender” transmitter / receiver pair and the wire needed to connect them.

Digital Ribbon supports HD resolutions up to 1080p, 4k x 2k, 3D, Deep Color and more at distances up to 325’ while maintaining HDCP and EDID compatibility. Cables are available in a variety of lengths from 50’ to 325’, are UL listed and Plenum rated.

Shotoku Serves Up A Win For Tennis Championship Broadcasts

UNIQUE VR TRACKING SYSTEM PROVIDES AUGMENTED REALITY FOR HIGH-PROFILE SPORTING EVENT

Staines, UK – Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a leading international manufacturer of advanced camera support products, recently facilitated the introduction of Augmented Reality (AR) to BBC Sport for its live outside broadcasts of the Wimbledon 2013 tennis championships. Shotoku sales director James Eddershaw announced from the Company’s European headquarters in Staines, UK, that Shotoku provided BBC Sport with two TP-90VR and SX300VR Tracking Pedestal & Head systems for its temporary OB studio during its live outdoor coverage of the Lawn Tennis Championships.

AR was introduced on the first day of the tournament and continued to be used for every studio broadcast throughout the two-week tournament. The level of use and complexity of the graphics adapted as the tournament progressed, right up to the final day. In the UK alone, more than 17m viewers watched the men’s final broadcast.

It was Shotoku’s unique VR tracking technology that made transferring systems more typically found in permanent studio installations, into the temporary OB studio possible. Using highly accurate internal encoders to monitor all moving axes and combine with simple in-studio referencing technology, allowed Shotoku to drastically reduce the time required for installation and calibration.

“We are delighted to have been able to work with BBC Sport to help them deliver AR for the first time at an Outside Broadcast, especially at such a prestigious event as the Wimbledon tennis championships.” said Eddershaw. “We are particularly pleased with the reaction of the camera operators who used the equipment for the first time in an OB environment. Any changes to their normal operation came simply from working with the in-shot graphics, not the equipment.”

Shotoku’s recently introduced SX-300VR virtual tracking EFP head features precise tracking and uncompromised operation. Based on the popular SX300 EFP head, the ergonomic design with decades of extensive VR experience behind it provides a robust, reliable platform for a wide range of camera and lens configurations. The SX-300VR provides high-accuracy, real-time data output with absolutely no loss in manual performance. Like all Shotoku VR systems, the unit combines with the Serial Position Interface (SPI) for frame-synchronized high-resolution data tracking, compatible with all leading VR graphics systems. The head may be simply mounted on a tripod, or for real-time full 3D tracking, one of Shotoku’s VR pedestals such as the lightweight, 3-stage TP-90VR, used in this application. While both are typically employed for a range of studio configurations, the SX-300VR and TP-90VR proved to be robust, flexible and reliable in a challenging OB studio application.

FSR Unleashes Multi-Format Scaling Matrix Switcher

Woodland Park, NJ - FSR has announced the immediate availability of the new DVS-MFSW-94XT, a multi-format 9×4 scaling matrix switcher that reduces the challenges associated with integrating legacy analog gear with newly installed digital video products.

The 94XT offers 9 inputs: 4 HDMI with stereo audio, 3 HDMI via CAT x cable, and 2 multi-format analog inputs. On the output side, there are 2 HDMI outputs and 2 HDMI over CATx outputs, each scaled to match the resolution of the display.

“While most new purchases of video equipment are digital, there is an incredibly large installed base of legacy analog equipment already in place. The 94XT extends the life of the legacy gear by allowing it to operate seamlessly alongside the newest digital video equipment,” explained Jan Sandri, FSR president.

The 94XT incorporates intelligent EDID and HDCP management along with high bandwidth ADC’s and scalers to make not only the installation, but the operation of the overall system “Plug-n-Play” simple.

“We felt that it was important for the 94XT to be able to operate flawlessly in environments where users can arrive with nearly any computer, tablet or other video device, plug it in and have it simply work. Too many other products work only in fixed environments and our world is far from a fixed environment,” added Joe Fischer, FSR’s director of engineering.

For additional flexibility, the 94XT has 2 additional balanced stereo audio inputs, 1 unbalanced stereo audio output, and SPDIF outputs for each video output. It can be controlled from the front panel, remotely via RS-232 or TCP/IP, or through the built-in web server.

To realize the full potential of the 94XT, FSR offers the DV-HXT family of HDMI over CATx extenders. They can send 1080p up to 165 feet and plug directly into the 94XT offering extended input and output distances without the need to have additional transmitters or receivers at the switcher. The transmitters are available as standalone “bricks” or as wall plates while the receivers are available in “brick” form only.

Shotoku’s Pedestal/Head Systems Elevate Newscasts for Communications Corporation of America Stations

Torrance, CA • KETK-TV, a Communications Corporation of America station and the East Texas NBC affiliate located in Tyler, recently replaced a set of aging and obsolete pedestals with three Shotoku Broadcast Systems TP200/SX300 systems. Naoki Ebimoto President announced the installation from US headquarters in Torrance, CA.

On the air since 1987, KETK-TV provides news for Tyler, Longview, Waco, Shreveport and Baton Rouge sister stations from its Tyler facility. Communications Corporation of America is a leading medium-market broadcast and digital media company with outlets throughout Louisiana, Texas and Indiana.

“KETK selected the Shotoku systems following a fairly extensive research process,” explained Dan Trent, chief engineer at KETK-TV. “Price is always a driver, and Shotoku gives ‘more bang for the buck’”.

Trent continued, “We produce 12 hours of news per day for 5 stations from our Tyler facility, so Shotoku’s TP200/S300 pedestal/head system gets a lot of use. Our former equipment wasn’t capable of up and down movement, and that limited production creativity. The new units change elevation easily, giving operators the freedom to capture a variety of shots and adjust to our different sets. ”

Shotoku’s elegant and ergonomically designed TP200/SX300 Pedestal System is a state-of-the-art configuration ideal for news and production studios. The 2-stage pneumatic pedestal has a maximum payload of over 80kg (177 lbs.) and supports a wide-range of camera configurations. Its perfect balance column and base offer maximum stability and great operational flexibility. One-step foot brake and single-action cable guard enables precise movements and control at all times for fast and easy positioning.

The companion SX300 pan & tilt fluid head offers top class performance with 40kg (88 lbs.) payload and perfect counterbalance/smooth pan & tilt drag to maximize image flexibility.

Added Trent, “The systems have been performing flawlessly; we’ve already experienced a significant improvement over the previous equipment. The operators are very happy.”

The TP200/SX300 systems have been in constant use since their installation.

FSR’s PoE to USB Charger Takes Home Commerical Integrator’s “Best Installation Tools & Testers” Award from InfoComm 2013

Orlando, FL • FSR, manufacturer of audio and video switching, control products, and connectivity boxes, was a winner at InfoComm 2013 in more ways than one. Company President, Jan Sandri, reported a busy and successful show, and was happy to accept another award for the organization’s increasingly crowded Trophy shelf. The New Jersey–based manufacturer took home the “Best Installation Tools & Tester” award, presented by Commercial Integrator, for its PoE to USB Charger, a device that allows AV professionals to power and charge USB devices such as an iPad® from an PoE-ethernet drop without the need for AC line power.

A panel consisting of the editors of Commercial Integrator, along with integrators in the commercial industry, selected the winners in 37 categories based upon innovation, functionality, competitive advantages, and benefits to the installer.

FSR’s patent pending PoE to USB Chargers fit the bill for their ability to provide a small, convenient power option for Apple® iPad display applications. The Chargers derive ample power from a standard PoE (not PoE+) network connection, without need for AC line power. When used alongside FSR’s iPad enclosure, they offer easy, convenient single-cable Installation.

“We take a lot of pride in our product coverage and our CI BEST Awards is a great example,” says Tom LeBlanc, Commercial Integrator editor-in-chief. “The winning products all offer something special to our integrator readers. They bring unique performance and installation benefits that give them a competitive edge—and will help them to find new sources of revenue. Congratulations to the winners.”

BHV Broadcast’s Award- Winning Video Ghost Targets Digital Signage Market

Power along a co-axial video cable revolutionizes remote monitor powering

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast’s award-winning Video Ghost phantom power system is providing the Digital Signage industry with a low-cost and reliable power source that eliminates the need for local mains power for monitors. Julian Hiorns, BHV managing director and designer of Video Ghost, revealed details of the system’s cost-saving and operational benefits from headquarters in Owslebury, UK. BHV is an international manufacturer of compact, cost-effective equipment for live and post-production with a strong global channel network.

“Video Ghost is ideal for short-term or permanent applications that utilize monitors for digital signage such as entertainment venues, retail establishments and houses of worship,” explained Hiorns. “Operational benefits include portability and rapid deployment – important features for mobile productions and difficult locations where monitoring is required, and the flexibility to send or receive video signals and DC power wherever and whenever the need arises.”

Video Ghost is an innovative and unique way to get power to a monitor on a stage floor or in an arena roof and is a true ‘fit-and-forget’ product. The multi-award-winning unit is capable of running DC power and SDI video signals in the same coaxial cable. Once installed, it’s done; no adjustments need be made. No special cables or connectors are required, and the system can be run from any standard 15V power supply. Equally at home with SD or HD signals, Video Ghost powers monitors at a distance of 500 feet. Adding Video Ghost to the signal path eliminates tedious (and expensive) mains power provision at the monitor’s location.

Video Ghost, also available in a rack mount version that holds four transmitters, can also be used to power cameras and SDI converters.
