SYMETRIX AUTOMIX 780 AND SYMNET DSP TRAIN U.S. MILITARY IN “HURT LOCKER” TYPE AUDIO SIMULATION

mcit_afghanresidence.JPG

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – MARCH 2010: The Mobile Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Interactive Trainer (MCIT for short) helps to train American fighters to recognize what is arguably their greatest threat in modern theaters of battle: the improvised explosive device, or IED. Using sophisticated A/V technology, soldiers and officers learn about IEDs, their components, the ways they are deployed, and the clues to recognizing them in the field. Then, using cutting-edge interactive gaming technology, they partake in a simulation that pits a “red team” of insurgents against a “blue team” on patrol. The Symetrix Automix 780 and SymNet DSP units play an integral role in the MCIT, delivering both conditioned, matrixed audio and, for the simulation, “party line” routing and conditioning for the participants’ intercom systems, as well as appropriately-routed simulation audio. more

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS’ THE LIVE ANTHOLOGY MIXED ON ATC LOUDSPEAKERS

ryan_ulyate.JPG

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – APRIL 2010: To say it was an ambitious project is an understatement. Veteran recording engineer/producer Ryan Ulyate, who has worked closely with legendary rocker Tom Petty and guitarist Mike Campbell since 2005, was charged with the task of compiling and organizing the individual songs from over 250 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concerts from their over thirty years together. After selecting only the “A+” material with Petty and Campbell, he then mixed five CDs-worth of material sequenced without regard to chronology. The challenge, apart from the sheer volume of the task, was to obtain a consistent sound from recordings spread across three decades made by different engineers using vastly different technologies. Ulyate relied on his ATC SCM 50 ASL three-way active monitors to reveal the truth in every mix, and the consistency he was able to achieve effectively makes The Live Anthology a time machine that more

NESCOM TO ADD API VISION SURROUND CONSOLE

nescom.JPGBANGOR, MAINE – MARCH 2010: Graduates from the New England School of Communications (NESCOM) are highly sought-after in the pro audio trades for their balanced appreciation of theory, application, and technique. One of the ways NESCOM keeps current is by replacing one of the consoles in its seven fully-appointed control rooms every year, as well as by providing regular upgrades to its remote truck and its 500-seat theater complex. Last year’s pick was a 32-channel API 1608 with a 16-channel expander. The overwhelming enthusiasm for the 1608 contributed to this year’s decision. NESCOM will replace a control surface in one of its surround rooms – Studio D – with a 48-channel API Vision surround production console, providing a superb front-end and mixing environment that ably handles stereo and surround simultaneously with an intuitive and instructive topology. more

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 2010: Every year in October, the Bridge School Benefit Concert draws music fans to the massive Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, near San Francisco, to enjoy an A-list lineup of musicians organized by industry icon Neil Young and his wife Pegi. The 23rd annual concert was held this past October and included performances by No Doubt, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Fleet Foxes, Wolfmother, Gavin Rossdale, Monsters of Folk, Jimmy Buffett, Adam Sandler, and, of course, Pegi and Neil Young. AUSTIN, TEXAS – MARCH 2010: Austin’s yellow DOG Studios is home to independent producer and engineer David Percefull, whose vital work with emerging artists and established indie acts has earned him deep respect from both sides of the microphone. SUMMIT INTEGRATED SYSTEMS TAKES HISTORIC PATHWAYS CHURCH INTO THE NEW DECADE WITH DANLEY LOUDSPEAKERS

pathways_church.JPG

DENVER, COLORADO – MARCH 2010: Pathways Church in Denver, Colorado is unique in many ways. The church purchased the Temple Event Center, an historic Moorish-style Synagogue built by renowned architect John Humphreys in 1899. Both a local and national historic landmark, the Temple Event Center, as it is still known, overflows with ornate and sublime beauty, including elaborate stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, vaulted ceilings, and gold leaf stenciling. Though no longer functioning, a gigantic 1911 Estey pipe organ provides an impressive backdrop for the nearly 1,000 congregants who can sit comfortably on velvet-upholstered seats.

Given the classic architecture that surrounds Pathways, it may be surprising to learn that the church delivers a decidedly contemporary service, complete with a fully-voiced rock band. In contrast, it will not be surprising to learn that the existing sound system was hardly up to that more

ASHLY DSP CHOSEN FOR MOORINGS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

mooringschurch.JPG

NAPLES, FLORIDA – MARCH 2010: Since its first service way back in 1965 in the Music Room of Naples High School, part of the vision for Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida has been to build a beautiful sanctuary to glorify God. It has been a long path, but completion within the decade of a flexible and functional Fellowship Hall and a community-supporting gymnasium and recreation center left that enduring target as the next step to accomplish in Moorings’ strategic vision. The church razed its existing sanctuary, saving the small original chapel from the wrecking ball, and built a new one in its place, wondrously sunlit and capable of seating some 750 congregants. A 49 stop, 63 rank pipe organ serves as its centerpiece, and a full-blown A/V system serves to support spoken word and all manner of classical and contemporary music. An Ashly ne24.24M DSP provides the brains for more
