Matrox Avio KVM Extender to Drive EIZO 4K LCD Display at IBC2013

10Gbps-capable unit extends 4K video signal with zero compression, zero latency through dual-link DVI connectivity

Matrox® Graphics Inc. today announced compatibility of the Matrox Avio™ F125 fiber-optic KVM extension solution with the EIZO DuraVision FDH3601 monitor, which features 8.8 megapixels (4096×2160 native resolution) across a 36.4″ screen.

The DuraVision FDH3601 comes with two DVI-D and two DisplayPort™ inputs and an advanced set of specifications including 1.07 billion display colors from a palette of 278 trillion, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 700 cd/m2 brightness and an 8ms response time.

Matrox Avio is designed to extend a workstation’s displays and peripheral devices while maintaining system performance with zero compression and zero latency at the remote user station. With its feature-rich connectivity options, it enables the extension of two HD videos or one 2K/4K video, plus keyboard, mouse, stereo analog audio and USB 2.0 devices over a single duplex LC-LC fiber-optic cable up to 400 m in multimode and 4 km in single mode. Extension of 4096×2160 resolution video at 30Hz is ideal for preview and playback of 4K Cinema or Ultra HD video content. For image processing applications that require a higher refresh rate, two Avio pairs can deliver an incredible visual experience on the EIZO 4K display at 60Hz by maintaining synchronization of the two dual-link video signals.

“Many of our customers are moving to high resolution displays and have the need to back rack and centralize their mission-critical computing resources,” said Kazuhide Shimura, Board Member & Managing Officer at EIZO. “Matrox Avio provides the extension performance needed for 4K image processing applications.”

“Forward-looking facilities eventually planning to transition to 4K workflows and displays can benefit from the scalability that a 10Gbps KVM extension solution provides,” said Caroline Injoyan, Business Development Manager at Matrox. “With a higher-bandwidth KVM solution, users in government, military, air traffic control, GIS and medical sectors, as well as broadcast and post production, can support different configurations by extending a single-HD, dual HD, or even a 4K video signal with the same product, effectively future-proofing their installations.”

At IBC2013, on the Matrox stand 7.B29, visitors will be treated to a stunning display of 4K footage extended over a fiber-optic cable.

Auckland Museum Builds Captivating 16-Monitor Video Wall to Promote Exhibits and Attractions

Matrox M-Series graphics cards showcase digital signage content across an expansive 12×7 foot visual platform

Matrox Graphics today announced that the Auckland Museum has combined two Matrox M9188 PCI Express® x16 octal-monitor graphics cards to cost effectively drive digital signage content across a four-by-four (4×4), 16-monitor video wall. The M9188 multi-display solution supports up to eight high-resolution monitors and was configured with a second M9188 board within the same system to provide the museum with an expansive canvas—at resolutions of 1920X1080 per display—to dynamically promote featured exhibitions and galleries.

The Auckland Museum, one of New Zealand’s most popular tourist attractions, was looking to modernize its entrance’s static information display with a multi-monitor backdrop that would instantly grab and hold the visitor’s attention. The museum contracted Wallflower® Advanced Digital Signage to deploy a captivating digital signage installation and they resourcefully combined two Matrox M9188 octal-monitor graphics cards to power sixteen 40-inch monitors at a total resolution of 7680×4320. The easy-to-use solution allows system operators to intuitively manage the high-resolution imagery and video to effectively engage, inform, and entertain visitors with crisp, clear, and dynamic content. The staff has fully embraced the new digital canvas while remarking the positive effect it’s had on museum visitors.

“There’s no better way for visitors to begin a museum tour than to be wowed by our video wall immediately upon entry,” said Margi Mellsop, Marketing Manager, Auckland Museum. “This stunning visual platform gives us the proper communication channel to uniquely bring the past to the present, while enhancing our visitors’ overall museum experience for years to come.”

Matrox MuraControl 2.0 for Windows Video Wall Management Software to Debut at InfoComm 2013

Easy-to-use software now includes high-end presentation effects, source touring and scheduling functionality, and remote control of local third-party applications to give integrators even greater control over their video wall installations

Matrox® Graphics Inc. today announced the upcoming release of MuraControl™ 2.0 for Windows® video wall management software for Mura™-based video walls. The new version responds to video wall integrators’ requests for even greater control over Mura MPX-based video wall content and layouts. Key new features include transparency and color-keying effects, the addition of local inputs and control over them, plus source touring and scheduling functionality. The new software will be demonstrated for the first time at InfoComm 2013 in the Matrox booth (4759). It will be available for purchase and as a free 21-day trial download in July.

Matrox MuraControl for Windows video wall management software<
“MuraControl 2.0 for Windows takes advantage of new functionality exposed with the latest Mura MPX driver version 2.03 and accessible through Mura’s network API,” said Helgi Sigurdsson, product manager at Matrox Graphics. “The ability to capture and display local VLC or PowerPoint files on a video wall, modify transparency settings, add color-keying, plus hit ‘play’ or ‘pause’ from a remote location will be welcome news for digital signage and corporate video wall integrators looking to add local files to their source list. Control room integrators will appreciate the added ability to take remote control of desktops using VNC.”

New features in Matrox MuraControl 2.0 for Windows
Transparency and color keying — Blending videos and images with the desktop, a background image, or another video is now possible by setting transparency levels for one or more windows. Source and destination color keying can also be used to enable interesting special effects, such as applying a graphic skin to a logo, or playing a video through it.

Local application control — It is now possible to capture, display and control local VLC® video and RealVNC® sessions, along with Microsoft® Image Viewer, PowerPoint®, and Internet Explorer® files. VLC videos can be set to “play” or “pause”, and PowerPoint presentations can be delivered by pressing “next” or “back”. Keyboard and mouse functionality can be sent to local applications in order to gain remote control over VNC sessions or to browse the Internet on the video wall.

Source touring — Automated cycling through multiple sources is now supported. This feature is useful in video wall environments such as security control rooms monitoring multiple camera feeds on multiple displays, or digital signage applications featuring back-to-back ads, scaled up to fit all or part of the display wall.

Layout scheduling — MuraControl has always allowed clients to create separate layouts showing different sources and window arrangements. With the new layout scheduling feature, those layouts can now be set to switch at specific times of the day so that the video wall can communicate different data at different times.
