The 2nd generation solid-state ReaLED illumination engine used in the FS33 IR projector provides users with 50% more light than any other competing LED projector further enhancing eye-limiting resolution. Even in pitch black it’s possible to locate light points from various light sources in the image thanks to its 0-100% light adjustments on the visual RGB display device. The projector’s high quality optics further increases eye-limiting resolution.

The latest installment of WATCHOUT from BARTKRESA design

The Discovery Channel’s Shark Week celebrated its 25th anniversary with a poolside event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

WATCHOUT was used to manage video projections of the large predators as they swam across its 120 ft. wide poolside wall.

Bart Kresa, projection designer, BARTKRESA design has provided large-scale projections many times at the Beverly Hilton for HBO’s annual Golden Globes After Party. Those installations were notable for their intensity of colour and bold graphic themes,while this event required an equally complex but more naturalistic approach.

For this Discovery Channel event, Kresa employed eight WATCHOUT servers that blended multiple projectors.

The ability to manage the designs in layers enabled Kresa to present his hip, edgy graphics and animations.

WATCHOUT greets visitors to Alexandria Center for Life Science, NYC

Colossal kinetic art display wows sciences and technology’s elite

Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image presentation software has been used by esteemed Niles Creative Group for a colossal 50 by 5 feet high digital video display in the foyer of The Alexandria Center for Life Science, an international hub for collaboration and innovation located the heart of New York City.

“Niles Creative Group were sought out by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc to design a colossal kinetic art display that creates a spectacular and unexpected visual experience in the guest lobby,” says David Niles. “We designed the content delivery system and its respective technology to mirror the innovation in science and talent that the center provides.”

The impressive display is made up of 34 seamless LCD panels with content managed by Dataton WATCHOUT and servers supplied by Show Sage. Show control for the system is performed by Medialon.

“Since installation, the intuitive display has worked very well. We’ve designed the system so that it can turn itself on and off and it even changes and selects its own video content. Our expert engineers sometimes log in remotely to change content and even the client is using the system with a custom designed touchscreen interface to add local or staff information on to the WATCHOUT timeline if needed.” The actual marble wall that exists in the lobby was duplicated for the screen, so that when the display is in its passive mode it naturally blends into its surrounding environment. The overall content for the screen is abstract and artistic style and thematically centers on the “life sciences. All content was designed and created by Niles Creative Group.

“To manage the content, we’re using the conditional layer feature of WATCHOUT which allows content on different layers on the timeline to be switched on and off,” adds Niles. “WATCHOUT is packed full of features for multi-image display production and Niles Creative Group really knows how to use its full potential. The Alexandria Center is no exception,” says Fredrik Svahnberg, Marketing Director at Dataton.

Video streaming and interactivity
WATCHOUT integrates video streaming and devices such as network cameras to allow video to be accessed over a standard network solution. WATCHOUT integrates with various devices and external systems so users can connect sensors and control sources, such as iPads, to on-screen elements like images, video and live feeds.

Live presentation
A built-in text editor allows last minute changes, or additions, in presentation text without the need for graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop®.
The latest version also has a DMX recording function that lets you record a complete lighting show and play it back from a single cue in WATCHOUT. This new feature makes WATCHOUT even more attractive in live events and staging applications.

Stereo playback and management of multiple outputs
WATCHOUT offers 3D effects and stage preview to position and rotate all media objects, including motion paths and video fly-through. Seamless stereoscopic playback and support is offered for multi-head output cards so up to six displays can be driven off one display computer using a single cost-effective WATCHOUT license.

Omagica supplies WATCHOUT to Big Video for marketing trade fair international forum presentation

Omagica has supplied Colombia’s Big Video multimedia specialists with Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image and display software for the international forum at the most reputed trade fair for marketing, EXPOMARKETING.

Held in May 2012 at the Corferias events center in Bogotá, Colombia, EXPOMARKETING ran for three days hosting world-class experts such as Martin Lindstrom, Marty Numeier, Joel Makower and Andreas Weigend presenting topical subjects such as branding, green businesses and data mining to educational institutions, students, marketing researchers, publicity and communications agencies, event organisers, graphic design studios, and of course, marketing companies.

For the international forum, Big Video working for LIVE Events returned to EXPOMARKETING for the third year in a row to create a breathtaking curved screen video display.

“For this event, we wanted big wow factor and to support the presentations with live video feeds and presentation graphics,” explains Diana Velilla at Big Video.

“We used WATCHOUT to synchronize 20,000 lumens projectors from Christie Digital using two 7 by 5 meter screens that were positioned to the sides of the stage. Three more 10,000 lumens projectors, also from Christie Digital, were used to project images on to 10 by 3 meter sized curved screen at the center of the stage. Here, Big Video utilized WATCHOUT’s geometrical correction feature to achieve a seamless image,” explains Diana Velilla at Big Video.

The opening of the international forum was presented to a packed audience across all three screens, creating a breathtaking animated opening, which gave an impressive welcome to all assistants, speakers and a short introduction to their presentations.

“The events were recorded using three Sony EX3 professional broadcast camera signals and the presenters multiple computer presentations were fed through an HD-SDI FOR-A switcher to Blackmagic video capture cards installed on the WATCHOUT display computers.

“The versatility of the WATCHOUT software allowed us to combine these live video signals with graphics, logos, credits and last minute add-ons on to the screens.”

Summing up the event, Velilla says: “The event coincides with the celebration of Big Video’s 20 years of service in supplying expert support and equipment to the corporate and live events rental market. What’s even more impressive is that over the 20 years, we have completed over 2,500 individual events in Colombia with many more in the pipeline.”

As well as supplying Big Video with their WATCHOUT software and associated PC hardware, WATCHOUT’s Premium Partner for Mexico and Latin America, Omagica were on hand to provide local technical and project support for this project.

Held in the industrial port city and municipality of Barranquilla in Northern Colombia, the annual event focuses on business development and prosperity of the Colombian Caribbean region, whereby the Chamber of Commerce of Barranquilla and the Center for Leadership and Management joined forces to be involved in the process of transformation that has been occurring in the region.
The event held in April 2012 brought together public and private leaders with world-class knowledge to contribute to the competitiveness of businesses in the region.

“Central to the workshop and presentations was the multi-screen display to communicate speakers notes and share knowledge,” says Diana Velilla at Big Video. “We’ve been working on this project for 2011 and 2012. The event brings world-class speakers to Colombia who require the best available video technology. Dataton WATCHOUT was used to combine content for display using Christie Digital projectors.”

WATCHOUT brings Renault Megane III to life

Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image display and presentation software was provided by Dataton Premium Partner, Omagica to Bolivia-based projection specialists Vinilo Lab for use in Bogota and Medellin city launches of the new Renault Mégane III family car.

Talking about this exciting project, Eduardo Ortega, Media Director, Vinilo Lab explains, “Our client wanted the look and feel of an action-packed and high drama film. To create the drama, we put WATCHOUT version 5.2 through its paces and took full advantage of the new corner pinning feature which allowed us to manipulate the corners of the desired projected image around curved surfaces such as the cars’ wheels. Here an extra projection layer was added to make the motion effect even more realistic and fast-paced. As the car was suspended and lowered into the stage area during the show, the result was perfectly synchronised.”

The event was attended by a packed audience of brand management, television and media as well as regional Renault dealers.

Aker Solutions uses projectiondesign for iPort simulation centre


Industry-leading oil and gas industry visualization benefits from 3D projection

Aker Solutions’ iPort in Stavanger, Norway, is an integrated operations centre for the offshore industry. It offers 3D simulators and other visualisation technology for drilling, topside, subsea and down-hole operations, with five main areas offering different simulator setups – each one using projectors from Norway’s projectiondesign.

7thSense Design drives projection inside North Carolina’s ‘Daily Planet’

Four Delta Media Servers used to supply immersive audio and video to new Nature Research Center

Demonstrating its ability to customise its Delta media-server product to match the image-manipulation of show-control needs of demanding environments, 7thSense has supplied core technology to the Daily Planet – an immersive dome experience opened this week by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC.

An 80,000-square foot extension to the Museum the Nature Research Center (NRC) has been designed to bring research scientists and their work into the public eye. The Museum hopes that it will demystify research and inspire a new generation of scientists to follow in the footsteps of those whose work it showcases.

The centrepiece of the NRC – both physically and conceptually – is the SECU Daily Planet, a hemispherical dome that uses multimedia technology to link the virtual and natural worlds together. At regular intervals during the day, scientists will use the 40ft high, high-definition curved screen of the dome to present their latest research and its impact on current issues. This marks something of a departure from the majority of domed environments intended for consumer presentations, where the content follows a pre-arranged pattern that does not vary from day to day.

“The system design is unique,” confirms Ian Macpherson, Director, 7thSense. “We supplied a single Delta server to drive all six of the Christie projectors for the main display wall, with 2K x 2K uncompressed media resolution and real-time warp-and-blend to make a single, continuous canvas. A second Delta server then feeds another timeline into the live inputs of the first one. This allows the show-control system to drop media in real time onto this server as Timeline B, while Timeline A is playing the primary Delta.

“In effect, this means that both Delta servers can be re-programmed on the fly while the audience is watching the show, depending on the needs of the NRC and without any of the operators requiring any show-programming expertise.”

A seamless transition between the two timelines, known internally as Ambient Mode, is ensured by the provision of luma-key transition movies created by batwin+robin productions – which was responsible for the creative concept and content execution at the Daily Planet. 7thSense worked closely with b+r throughout, with AV systems contractor Electrosonic and show-control provider Smart Monkeys also playing pivotal roles in the realisation of the project.

As well as Ambient Mode, NRC staff can select other modes from the Smart Monkeys GUI which allows a choice of different mixes of live presentation windows and backgrounds. This allows a flexible use of the display system, moving from randomised playback to a more interactive experience.

Another unusual aspect of the Daily Planet is that its screen can be viewed from any one of three floors within the dome. The creative and technology teams have used this to their advantage, adding four Barco movable video projectors which move around the thin bands between the floors at the rear of the space, creating a composite video and lighting projection that extends way off the screen and onto other parts of the Planet’s architecture. Both Barco projectors are driven by a single Delta server , fully synchronised to the main show-control system.

“This exhibit pushes Delta very hard,” adds 7thSense’s Macpherson. “We have some 2,700 resources on our timeline, with additional real-time inserted media and up to four live captured inputs on-screen from various live presenters within the dome.

“The randomised and real-time inserted nature of the content means the Delta system has to provide seamless playback, even though it’s transitioning from one server to another, so that the ‘hidden’ server can be queued up for its next topic.

“There is a constant two-way communication between Delta and the Smart Monkeys show controller, and many new features were added to Delta specifically for this project.”

“The show programming was accomplished by 7thSense and Smart Monkeys over four weeks of intense on-site activity,” adds Gary Barnes Project Manager of Electrosonic. “In total the Delta servers are providing six channels of HD video and 16 channels of audio, together with time-accurate commands to trigger lighting and the selection of the next show.

“Since the Daily Planet opened, the systems have performed faultlessly, and we could not have asked for more conscientious and more creative partners than 7thSense Design. Between us we have created a unique experience, which combines the best of immersive multi-image technology with the freshness of a live and spontaneous theatre show. Seeing is believing!”

7thSense thinks ‘out of the box’ with new Delta Nano


World’s most affordable uncompressed 4:4:4 media server

7thSense Design announces the arrival of Delta Nano – a new, affordable media server that delivers full uncompressed 4:4:4 video playback at a freshly accessible price point.

Based on the core technology that drives 7thSense’s existing Delta range, Delta Nano comes in either a 1U rack-mount or small form-factor box chassis, and can store between 5 and 20 minutes of 4:4:4 video data. The unit has a single DVI/HDMI output and supports all standard frame-rates up to 30fps.

Ian Macpherson, Managing Director, 7thSense, says the new player takes the company into new market sectors. “Delta Nano is the perfect solution in places where people watch just a few minutes of looping media, for example to support a museum exhibit, to run information points in theme parks and other attractions, or to drive kiosks in showroom and retail digital signage applications.

“For this reason we have kept everything simple. Delta Nano has a new, web-based user interface which is easy to use, so content houses can simply copy their uncompressed TGA sequence output from After Effects or similar straight into the box, rather than go through laborious encode processing for MPG.

“Delta Nano is not aimed at multi-screen projection – that’s the job of our flagship Delta product – but you can sync two or more Nanos together, so that multiple kiosks can play the same show synchronously if required. There are also real-time warp and blend functions for display matching.”

Delta Nano delivers stereo audio alongside the video content, while its built-in software – accessible in a browser-based GUI via the product’s built-in TCP/IP connection – offers an easy to use interface for rapid show creation. Movies, still images, sound and text can all be easily combined and edited in a familiar non-linear editing workflow.

Delta Nano made its global debut at the InfoComm show in Las Vegas in June, where 7thSense supported the booth of one of its long-standing technology partners, Norway’s projectiondesign on booth N1351.

“This amazing little device delivers uncompressed HD video and show creation – all from a box that takes up the minimum of rack space or simply sits on the back of a flat-panel display.”

7thSense will also be showcasing real-world applications of Delta Nano at the company’s freshly opened Experience Centre, based at its newly opened International headquarters.
