ELAN® g! Puts Celebrity Baker Buddy Valastro in Total Control of an Expanding Retail Empire!

The world’s favorite celebrity baker, Buddy Valastro, is expanding his baking empire with the recent grand opening of the second Carlo’s Bakery location in Ridgewood, NJ, and he’s using the ELAN® g! system to provide simple and efficient A/V control. Working with custom integrator 360 Media Innovations, Valastro now has three ELAN g! Entertainment and Control systems — one at his New Jersey home, one at the Carlo’s Bakery Lackawanna Cake Factory in Jersey City, NJ and one at the brand new Carlo’s Bakery location in Ridgewood, NJ.

“I use ELAN g! every day at home and at the Cake Factory,” Valastro said, “so I knew it was the perfect choice to give my employees and managers total control of the audio and video at the new Carlo’s Bakery in Ridgewood. Technology is changing the way retail businesses operate, from the new ShopKeep app that allowed us to replace traditional POS systems with two iPads to the instant audio and video control the ELAN g! provides. As Carlo’s Bakery continues to grow I’ll need technologies that make it easier for me to manage operations at multiple locations, and one of the reasons I love the g! system is I can expand it later to provide remote access to security and surveillance.”

With plans to open several additional Carlo’s Bakery locations by the end of 2014, Valastro will benefit from the remote capabilities of the advanced ELAN g! system and be able to quickly check in on multiple locations right from his iPhone. With the move to two iPads as POSes in the Ridgewood location, it’s clear that technology will play an increasingly important role in the bakery’s continued success. It’s now possible for employees to take the cash register with them to take orders from anywhere in the store, and a simple four-finger swipe takes them right to the ELAN g!Mobile app where they can adjust settings for the store’s TVs and audio zones. That means they can take an order, swipe to the A/V controls and swipe back to take another order in under 15 seconds.

According to 360 Media Innovations co-owner Abiose Gale, the technology at the new Carlo’s Bakery isn’t just the wave of the future, but the reality of the present that can make managing retail locations easier and even provide financial savings over the long term. “The ELAN g! system is a perfect solution for retail stores because its so easy to use there’s no learning curve and it can integrate everything from TVs to lighting to electronic door locks. And as businesses continue to use apps for business purposes like the ShopKeep POS app, the ability to instantly switch to the ELAN g! app means they can avoid having all sorts of different remotes to control everything. It’s pretty incredible that the whole store can be operated from a single iPad.”

Carlo’s Bakery Ridgewood has two main areas — the storefront that features a Cake Building Station where customers can watch the baking artisans decorate their cakes and a Party Room for hosting birthday parties and special events. Each area has its own audio zone and video zone, and the Party Room has HDMI presentation capabilities so guests can use their own media devices to display content on the two 47” LG TVs during their parties.

360 Media Innovations installed a total of six 47” LG LCD TV’s and 13 in-ceiling speakers throughout the store which play content from an iPort IW20 in-wall iPod dock, a Fusion media server, two Cablevision cableboxes and a BrightSign XD230 digital signage player. An ELAN HC6 is the brains of the control system, with an ELAN S86, SnapAV B300 4×4 matrix and Crown CDi 1000 amplifier providing distribution and power for the store’s speakers. The store uses two WAPs to provide uniterrupted Wi-Fi which is vital for consistent operation of the iPads as POSes.

Forward-Thinking Integrator Sensory Technologies Turns To NanoLumens For One-Of-A-Kind LED “Sculptural” Solution

When Sensory Technologies was hired to redesign the visual experience of a Fortune 500 company’s lobby in Indianapolis, Indiana, the forward thinking integrator knew that the location called for a digital sculpture unlike anything else in the world, which is why they chose the visionary team at NanoLumens® to bring their vision to life by producing a 5-foot tall by 13-foot long LED display in the shape of the letters “USA.” The display, which can show any type of content that the company chooses, is the first installation of NanoLumens’ new NanoSlim DS Series (Design Specific), which allows every customer to ‘break out of the box’ and create truly unique displays in literally any shape and size.

“We needed to find a display provider that could offer not only an innovative LED display, but also provide us with impeccable service and support. The search stopped once we found NanoLumens,” said Andrea Nicholson, Business Development Manager at Sensory Technologies. “We were instantly blown away by their NanoSlim DS Series displays. The display solution we were looking for was highly unusual and NanoLumens was not only capable of handling it, they were eager to take on the challenge. They provided us with a state-of-the-art LED display that went above and beyond our wildest expectations. Far more than just a display, the end result is truly a digital sculpture.”

The USA display is a freestanding sculpture that commands the attention of every visitor in the brightly lit, window-filled lobby of the Fortune 500 company’s facility. NanoLumens’ LED display technology is perfect for installation in traditionally difficult locations such as public lobbies and retail establishments because it is extremely bright and durable, and generates very little noise and heat. This particular display uses NanoLumens’ 4mm LED technology and was built to the company’s ToughFace standards, so people can bump up against it and touch it without affecting its quality or operation. It can be used with nearly any video content management system, which allows the company to use their digital sculpture to present any content they choose.

According to NanoLumens President & CEO Rick Cope, “Our new NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS Series remove all the limits that confine traditional displays into squares and rectangles. This amazing USA display proves that if you can imagine it, we can create it. We’re the only manufacturer providing customers the opportunity to design the size, shape, curvature and pixel pitch of their own unique LED displays, allowing them to create an artistic digital canvas that can even stand alone as a sculptural work of art.”

Sensory Technologies was able to implement the NanoSlim DS with the help of the NanoLumens team and was so pleased with the support and service from NanoLumens, that the integrator has deemed the company their ‘go-to’ provider for installations that call for one-of-a-kind, large-format LED displays.

“The demand for unique digital signage applications is growing every day as corporations, universities and healthcare facilities become increasingly more interested in finding new and exciting ways to display their visual content ” added Nicholson. “Through this partnership, we quickly learned that NanoLumens stands head and shoulders above the field in terms of providing cutting-edge LED display solutions. With eight years worth of experience managing hundreds of AV installations, I was extremely impressed with the quality of product and the dedication to personal service that NanoLumens provides. The team has been top notch to work with and was always very responsive. The product they create and quality they deliver is second to none and I am excited to work with them again.”

NanoLumens’ NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS Series are a bold departure from the traditional one-size-fits-all design paradigm that has been a mainstay of the display industry for decades. Available in 4mm, 5mm and 6mm pixel pitches, the NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS Series allow customers to specify truly unique displays in their designs and open the door for corporations, retailers and venue operators to create a completely original digital experience.

NanoLumens displays are extremely slim, ultra-lightweight, energy efficient, and feature a bright, seamless, high resolution picture quality that can be viewed from any angle throughout the display horizon without color shift or image distortion. The company’s patented display technology, which allows customers to select from 4mm, 5mm, or 6mm pixel pitch (depending on the model), promises to transform the way marketers engage their customers in every type of trade show, retail, hospitality, stadium, arena, transportation and public event environment.

All NanoLumens displays accept input from nearly any device or content management system. There is no need for special software, hardware or special personnel to display content beautifully. With a profile of only a few inches, NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS can be installed on virtually any surface without being obtrusive, adding the ‘WOW’ factor to any environment without taking up precious space. NanoLumens’ patented display technology is optimized for indoor use, operating with virtually zero heat or noise while producing bright, rich, consistent color as well as superior off-axis viewing with no color shift or image distortion throughout the display horizon.

NanoLumens’ technology has been named ‘Best Large-format LED Display’ of the year by Signage Solutions magazine in its 2012 Product of the Year awards program, as well as being recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as a 2011 future-proof tech trend and cited by The Wall Street Journal in its 2010 Technology Innovations Awards. NanoLumens’ technology also received the 2011 Breakthrough Technology of the Year Award at the American Technology Awards. Digital Signage Magazine awarded the NanoLumens NanoFlex a 2011 DIGI Award for “Best New Display Device – Non-LCD or Plasma.”

Advanced Designs And Installs Pioneering Mobile Collaborative Classroom For Sheridan College

When the administration at Sheridan College decided to build a new wing of flexible classrooms in its Brampton Campus, they turned to Advanced, Canada’s premier AV and IT integrator, to install new “classrooms of the future”. The AV experts at Advanced implemented 20 classrooms with new computers, wireless microphones, document cameras, movable podiums, and up to six commercial-grade projectors in each room. And because technology is only as good as the people using it, they made sure that every room has identical controls and can be used with very little training.

“We’ve been working with Sheridan College for over 12 years now, so they knew that we were capable of turning their new wing of classrooms into interactive classrooms of the future,” said Mark McPherson, Vice President at Advanced. “Sheridan wanted to create a flex classroom environment that would provide students and professors the ability to interact and lecture in various ways, and we integrated AV solutions that let them do just that. We installed complete video and audio solutions that provide students with the chance to learn in a uniquely-designed, state-of-the-art classroom.”

Sheridan came to Advanced with a flexible classroom design that differs from the traditional, podium-in-front-of-class layout, and allows professors and students ultimate mobility and access to technology when presenting.

“We knew we had a design that was different from anything else being done in college classrooms, so we needed an AV integrator that could take our idea and make it a reality,” said Trevor Hanekamp, ICT Architect at Sheridan College. “That’s where Advanced came in. They presented us with a proposal that offered an innovative and budget-conscious AV solution for our flex classrooms. In the end, they turned each of these classrooms into hi-tech multimedia facilities, and the professors and students couldn’t be happier with the new easy-to-use flex classrooms.”

For the initial project, Advanced partnered with Just Add Power to install AV equipment in a total of 20 classrooms, including 19 flex classrooms and one room designated the college “Co-Lab”. The flex classrooms include up to six NEC commercial grade projectors, and every upgraded classroom features Dell computers and AverMedia 350+ Doc Cameras. Audio components include Extron DMP 44 LC Digital Matrix Processors, Extron Power Amplifiers and Shure wireless gooseneck microphones. Because every room uses an identical control panel, educators can easily teach a class in any of the rooms, making scheduling much simpler.

Each flex classroom is designed to accommodate network-connected mobile podiums, allowing educators to present their lessons from any area of the room. Sheridan also wanted to eliminate traditional bulky equipment racks from the classrooms, so Advanced designed and installed an innovative equipment racking system mounted to the ceiling, taking up no more space than one ceiling tile. The state of the art in-ceiling rack houses the wireless microphone receivers and digital sound processor for each classroom, eliminating stray wiring while ensuring that the valuable equipment is secured at all times.

The Co-Lab is a six-projector room that consists of the same video and audio components as the flex classrooms and features a podium that allows educators to control four video sources simultaneously. The Co-Lab is equipped with two modes — classroom and team — that allow for different methods of presentation. Classroom mode lets educators present their lessons on the main projector screen, while team mode allows for projected content to be distributed to six separate areas of the classroom, perfect for group work.

“This really is a one-of-a-kind AV setup,” said Wayne Derby, Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services at Advanced. “Very few educational facilities in North America have deployed AV solutions that provide both professors and students such accessible, mobile and easy-to-use equipment. Sheridan put a lot of thought into what they wanted for their new wing of rooms, and they decided that they needed a top-of-the-line template that they wouldn’t have to change every semester, and would be very simple to use. Typically, when you integrate this kind of equipment, you have to devote a lot of time to system training. With this project, minimal training was required, as their system is so innovative. In the end, they couldn’t have been happier with the result.”

Sheridan is so pleased with the work done by Advanced that they are standardizing the design for every new classroom that is built throughout the three campuses. Since the initial project, Advanced has installed 5 more flex classrooms in other areas of the college. The college is hopeful that the latest technology utilized in the new classrooms will better facilitate remote learning capabilities for students who cannot attend classes in person.

Retailers Must Implement In-Store Digital Signage To Decrease Costs and Increase Messaging And Sales

Customer-facing businesses that want to stay relevant to an increasingly mobile consumer audience must learn from the digital signage revolution transforming public spaces everywhere and implement in-store digital signage solutions that reduce costs, improve messaging and drive sales — according to Stampede Presentation Products, Inc. President & COO Kevin Kelly.

“Digital signage is transforming the way companies inform, entertain and sell to today’s increasingly mobile consumer population in both indoor and outdoor public spaces, as dramatic advances in display technology, installation methods and maintenance make it possible to deploy signage faster than ever before,” Kelly said today. “As this revolution continues, retailers must learn to deploy the same technologies in their own in-store sales environment in order to stay relevant to their customers, as it is the only economically feasible way to sell customers now and in the future.”

According to Kelly, retailers who think that the cost of implementing an in-store digital signage solution is exorbitant haven’t taken the time to do their homework. “The total cost of creating and constantly replacing printed POP materials is huge, and its impact on consumers decreases every day. Moving images move people to connect and consume. With a digital signage solution, retailers can quickly adapt to their customers preferences. They can change pricing, launch promotions, host micro events and adapt their messaging based on minute-to-minute developments within the store environment.”

Kelly stressed that retailers who are not yet putting digital signage to work within their sales environment need to meet with their AV integrator to plan a creative and cost-effective conversion program that’s right for them. Beyond the core requirements of lighting, background audio, displays and digital signage, retailers should consider other components such as custom-shaped large-format displays, interactive touch panels and eco-friendly and economical LED lighting.

“No two retail environments are alike, and it’s important for every retailer to find a digital signage solution that conforms to the unique needs of their business,” Kelly added. “Dealers often make the mistake of thinking that their retail customers can’t afford to install a digital signage solution in their environment. The fact of the matter is that they can’t afford not to install a system — and dealers can help them do it in a creative way that’s also cost-effective. Now is the time for retailers to keep their sales environments relevant and start their own digital signage revolution!”

Stampede Presentation Products, Inc. will exhibit a complete range of digital signage solutions at Digital Signage Expo 2013 in Booth #1125 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

NanoLumens Redefines “Flexible” With New DS Series Design Specific Displays At Digital Signage Expo 2013

Redefining the meaning of the word “flexible” for an industry rooted in “fixed” installation solutions, NanoLumens®, Inc., the pace-setting Georgia-based company that is revolutionizing virtually every aspect of the 21st century large-format digital signage industry, today announced it will introduce its new NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS Series (Design Specific) LED displays at Digital Signage Expo 2013 in Booth #1042 in the Las Vegas Convention Center on February 27.

“The era of one-size-fits-all display solutions is over,” NanoLumens President & CEO Rick Cope declared today. “In a world where no two customers and no two environments are alike, no two digital signage solutions should ever be the same. Each installation is unique and therefore each solution must be designed specifically to meet the individual needs of the customer and the application environment. Our new NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS Series displays allow each customer to imagine and create the ultimate digital experience in their environment for their audience.”

According to Cope, NanoLumens has developed an advanced manufacturing system, which allows them to reliably and efficiently manufacture large-format LED displays in any shape, size or curvature. With this new approach to manufacturing, NanoLumens is able to deliver the ultimate flexibility to its customers. Where traditional manufacturing offers customers only a narrow range of sizes, shapes and product variations, NanoLumens new DS Series displays are limited only by the customer’s imagination, allowing them to tailor not only the content, but the actual display itself to match their creative vision.

NanoLumens DS technology is a truly remarkable innovation, designed to give customers the ultimate flexibility to utilize large-format LED display technology in ways previously thought impossible. Like all NanoLumens displays, Design Specific displays are slim, lightweight and eco-friendly with brilliant edge-to-edge image quality to transform any space into the ultimate visual experience.

All NanoLumens displays accept input from nearly any device and/or content management system. There is no need for special software, hardware or special personnel to display content beautifully. With a profile of only a few inches, NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS can be installed on virtually any surface without being obtrusive, adding the ‘WOW’ factor to any environment without taking up precious space. Stampede Predicts 2013 Is The Year Unified Communications Becomes A Practical Reality

The November 2012 announcement by Vidyo that its innovative software platform is being incorporated into Wii UTM Chat, a video communication service that is included with every Nintendo Wii U console, opens the door to a future where peer-to-peer communication will become a daily part of every consumer’s video game play, according to Stampede President & COO Kevin Kelly, and this reality speaks volumes about what lies ahead for profitable peer-to-peer communication in business.

In fact, Kelly predicted today, Vidyo’s announcement represents the tipping point that now transforms a trend toward low-cost video conferencing into a ‘stampede’ toward widespread, peer-to-peer Unified Communications that promises to create unprecedented new business opportunities for ProAV dealers who are equipped and educated to take advantage of all the new field offers.

“Over the last several years we have all seen and experienced how video conferencing has become an increasingly important part of our lives,” Kelly explained. “What began as high-end video conferencing through dedicated tele-presence systems from companies like CISCO has evolved through lower-cost dedicated VC systems that can be leased for under $100 a month to software-based PC video conferencing solutions, to device-based conferencing. The fact that all of these different conferencing systems can now be combined at any given time, and in a variety of different configurations, is what makes the old era of video conferencing the new era of Unified Communications.”

Kelly believes that 2013 will be the year that Unified Communications becomes a major new growth opportunity for dealers in virtually every vertical market, offering end-users a wide selection of product offerings that cover every need from dedicated enterprise-wide video conferencing systems to software-based, PC-attached solutions.

Even more importantly, according to Kelly, dealers now have the opportunity to benefit not only from the sale of VC hardware and software, but also from the associated sales of displays, audio equipment, and other components that users of VC software surely need to have. Also, the ongoing service contracts on video conferencing systems create annuities for VC dealers that are unheard of in any other sector of the ProAV industry.

“The increased number of video conferencing endpoints is changing the way that people view the need to videoconference, and more people are taking notice of the endless opportunities that VC offers,” added Kelly. “The responsibility now lies with VC dealers to learn more about how Unified Communications can benefit them and their customer base, so that they can be prepared to offer the absolute best in the coming year.”
