Listen Technologies & Technitect to Present InfoComm Webinar on March ADA Deadline for AV Systems

InfoComm will offer a webinar on January 10, 2012 to educate audio-visual professionals about the Department of Justice’s amendments to the American with Disabilities Act requirements for assistive listening systems and other AV systems.

In 2010 the Department of Justice amended the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for assistive listening and other AV systems. The new requirements go into full effect on March 12, 2012.

InfoComm has partnered with Listen Technologies and Technitect to present the details of what the new requirements will mean to the audio-visual industry. Timothy Cape, CTS-D a Principal Consultant at Technitect and Craig Paller, Wireless Listening Product Group Leader at Listen Technologies will deliver the presentation.

Timothy Cape, CTS-D has been an independent consultant in the fields of acoustics, audiovisual systems, distance education systems, videoconferencing systems, lighting and related disciplines since 1982. He formed his first consultancy in 1985 and expanded that firm into the largest AV consulting firm in the southeast US. He then became a partner of his second firm which also grew into the largest in the southeast. He formed Technitect, LLC in 2004.

Mr. Cape is a recognized specialist in the field of audiovisual, distance education and videoconferencing systems and facilities design, and regularly conducts talks and seminars on the subjects both nationally and internationally. He is currently focusing his practice on AV technology management in the enterprise. He is an active industry advocate and a prolific writer. He was the founding author of the monthly column “Consultant Connection” for Pro AV magazine for over 5 years (over 60 columns plus special assignments). He is co-author of the book AV Best Practices: The Design and Integration Process for the AV and Construction Industries.

He is an InfoComm Faculty member, formerly a two-term chair of the InfoComm consultants’ council ICAT, and was a former founding member of the NSCA consultants’ council. Mr. Cape holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Washington in Seattle and has held the CTS-D certification since 2000.
Tim is also a member of the Focus Expert Network, an online resource for Information Technology professionals. Tim started his professional career in acoustics, and received recognition for 25 years membership in the Acoustical Society of America in 2008.

The Confidea® system allows event coordinators to manage meetings easily and more effectively with minimal setup up time making better and more effective use of the space. “The addition of the Wireless Conferencing products to our rental inventory was perfect timing,” said Mark Chalberg, Technical Director & Audio Manager, at Showcore. “We were facing an immediate challenge of how to implement the audio-visual solution we had designed for a client holding an event in a very unique environment.”

Showcore’s client was looking to maximize their investment in their event planning by using the main event room of the hotel for their opening session and then quickly turning the room into two separate break out rooms; both requiring audio-visual solutions.

“We came up with the perfect design that included a large center screen with two side screens to allow the event participants to see the presentations when they were all assembled for the opening session,” described Chalberg. “We knew that during the break we could simply split the event room in half and that the center screen would be enclosed in the air walls leaving the side screens to be used for display in the now separate break out rooms. Our challenge was how to have the same simplicity and efficiency with the audio.”

Showcore recognized that the Confidea® Wireless Conferencing system was the solution. The opening session was set with crescent round tables for seven people with one microphone unit on each table. Two Wireless Conferencing Access Points were placed at each mixing station so that when the room was split in half a single system became two systems in a matter of minutes.

“Our client was completely satisfied,” said Chalberg. “They thought the table mics were a hit, and that they’ll be a permanent fixture in their meetings going forward. They felt it turned what used to be a one-way lecture into a two-way conversation and kept the audience involved and captive.”
