General Cable Launches Gepco® Brand Line of HydroBloc™ Water-Resistant Cables

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, APRIL 4, 2013 — General Cable is pleased to launch its new line of Gepco® Brand HydroBloc™ Water-Resistant Cables. UL rated and in compliance with the TIA-455-82-B Water Penetration Test, the new line of HydroBloc cables is ideal for indoor/outdoor applications and for use in wet locations inside conduit. HydroBloc cables feature an advanced water-blocked construction, a sunlight- and moisture-resistant jacket and a ripcord for ease of stripping for audio/control versions.

The advanced water-block construction of HydroBloc cables starts with a two-ply water-blocking tape for superior protection. In contrast to one-ply tape in which water-blocking polymer is attached to one side of a fiber filament tape, the two-ply tape has the water-blocking polymer sandwiched between two fiber filament tapes, which allows for increased volume of the polymer. In addition, HydroBloc cables (with the exception of coax versions) utilize water-swellable fillers for added protection. This advanced construction results in greater swell heights to better fill any voids and prevent water from migrating down the cable and disrupting any electrical characteristics should there be a cut or slit in the jacket.

The HydroBloc line comes in a variety of cable types, in both shielded and unshielded versions, to cover an array of applications such as data or power control, multi-pair audio, general purpose audio, speaker, communications, power-limited circuits (fire alarm and tray cable), low-voltage industrial process control, CATV and HDTV.

“HydroBloc cables provide an excellent solution for indoor/outdoor applications,” said Joe Zajac, Sales and Applications Engineer for Gepco® Brand Products. “The two-ply water-blocking tape and water-swellable fillers provides superior water protection in all environments.”

Gepco® Brand Expanded DMX Lighting Solutions Featured at the 2013 NAMM Show

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, JANUARY 24, 2013 — General Cable is pleased to offer its expanded line of Gepco® Brand DMX lighting solutions at the 2013 NAMM Show (Booth #6983) January 24-27, 2013.

Addressing industry demands and customer needs, Gepco has added DLC122 and DLC222 to its Gepco® Brand DLC Series DMX Lighting Control Cables. The new cables are designed with larger 22 AWG power conductors for use in extended distance runs without signal loss and feature an extremely durable and abrasion-resistant, yet flexible, polyurethane jacket. Ideal for heavy production use, rigging and touring conditions, DLC122 and DLC222 join DLC124 and DLC224 in the DLC Series.

The DLC series lighting control cable is a true DMX cable with an exceptionally durable and flexible construction. The series features 120 Ohm impedance, low capacitance, double (foil and braid) shield and color-coded conductors for easy identification. Unlike conventional cables that are not intended for data transmission, the DLC series offers reliable data transfer through its data-specific design. The single- and dual-pair designs of the DLC series accommodate multiple lighting manufacturers’ products, and the DLC222 and DLC224 meet the United States Institute for Theater Technology (USITT) standards for DMX512 cable specifications.

“Gepco and General Cable are happy to respond to customer needs,” said Joe Zajac, Sales and Applications Engineer for Gepco® Brand Products. “The new additions to the Gepco Brand DLC series will provide better performance for DMX lighting control in tough, heavy-production and touring conditions.”

Terminated with industry-standard connectors, the DLC series of cables are available in pre-defined and custom configurations with the option of 3-pin or 5-pin XLR connectors.

Gepco® Brand’s Touring Line of RunONE™ Powered Cables Debuted at the 2013 NAMM Show

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, JANUARY 24, 2013 — General Cable is pleased to announce the expansion of the Gepco® Brand line of RunONE™ Powered Cables to include a version specifically for touring and production use at the 2013 NAMM Show (Booth #6983) January 24-27, 2013.

RunONE™ Powered Cables combine audio and power, along with optional data, under a single durable, yet flexible jacket. With multiple uses for corporations, DJs, lighting rigs and tours, RunONE allows the user to pull a single cable in place of multiple cables, providing a portable and neat solution that saves time and hassle.

Each RunONE cable combines one channel of power with two, eight or 12 channels of 110 Ohm balanced audio for line level, mic level or digital AES audio signals and can be used with self-powered speakers or in DMX lighting control. Additional configurations of RunONE include two channels of Category 5e cable that can be used for data drops in remote power and audio applications. Snakes with optional data can also be used for digital audio transmission while sending power to Front of House (FOH) for remote locations. Shielding around the power channels eliminates power noise from interrupting the audio/data signal, ensuring high-quality performance.

Joining the existing Professional Line of RunONE cables, the new Touring Line was designed with larger-gauge power conductors and an overall shield. The 12 AWG power conductors of the Touring Line provide a lower voltage drop for long distance runs, while the overall shield reduces outside noise often encountered during those longer runs.

Terminated with industry-standard connectors, RunONE cables offer the option of Edison, IEC and Neutrik® powerCON® connectors for the power channel; 3-pin XLR, 5-pin XLR (for DMX lighting), TRS and Neutrik® convertCON® connectors for audio channels; and RJ45 and Neutrik® etherCON® connectors for optional data channels. RunONE cables are available in pre-defined and custom configurations.

“The RunONE cables are a great solution for anyone looking to save time,” said Joe Zajac, Sales and Applications Engineer for Gepco® Brand Products. “Now the RunONE Touring Line also provides a neat solution where extended runs of cable are needed.”

Gepco® International Introduces TactiFlex™ Flexible Ruggedized Fiber Optic Cables at NAB 2012

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, APRIL 16, 2012 — Gepco International (NAB Booth #C8508), an industry-leading brand in professional audio and video interconnect products, is pleased to introduce and demonstrate a new line of flexible ruggedized fiber optic cables at the NAB Show April 16-19, 2012. Designed for portable applications in harsh environments, the new Gepco® Brand TactiFlex™ Flexible Ruggedized Fiber Optic Cables are tough and lightweight, yet more flexible than standard ruggedized fiber cables on the market.

Unique to TactiFlex fiber optic cables is a polyurethane outer jacket that is 30 percent more flexible while remaining abrasion-, chemical- and cut-resistant. For further damage protection and mechanical isolation, the 125µm single-mode fiber elements are coated with a 900µm, hard elastomeric, tight buffer. Available with either single-mode or multi-mode fiber, TactiFlex cables are currently offered in a distribution-type construction, which uses an aramid strength member filler for exceptional strength.

With multiple connector options to choose from, TactiFlex Flexible Fiber Optic Cable Assemblies provide a rugged, portable solution with extra flexibility. TactiFlex can be terminated with precision ST, SC, LC and FC format connectors, as well as Amphenol® T-FOCA II™ and Pierside connectors. Additionally, TactiFlex cable has been qualified for use with Neutrik® opticalCON® connectors and is ideal for use with expanded beam solutions. Machine polished, Tactiflex Cable Assemblies are available at almost any length and terminated to user specifications.

“TactiFlex Fiber Optic Cables and Assemblies deliver improved performance for portable broadcast applications,” said Joe Zajac, Sales and Applications Engineer for Gepco® Brand Products. “While TactiFlex cables can stand up to the harshest uses, their unique, flexible jacket makes them easier to maneuver than stiff, ruggedized fiber optic cables.”

TactiFlex will make its debut at NAB 2012 by running 3D-4U, Inc.’s 180-degree 3D camera in the Gepco Booth (#C8508). Through its patent-pending software and multi-sensor 180- or 360-degree camera, 3D-4U’s unique media player allows viewers to zoom in or out, pan left or right, or tilt up or down with a variety of standard interactive controllers. The immersive video technology developed by 3D-4U utilizes custom solutions designed and built by DigiMax Consulting and Gepco International.
