New GefenTV Extender for HDMI Offers Cost-Effective Pricing for Shorter Runs using HDBaseT Technology

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the shipping of its new HDBaseT Extender for HDMI over CAT-5 cable, priced under $500 (US). It delivers HDMI at full resolution 1080p full HD without any compression up to 230 feet (70m) in distance.

“In exchange for a slightly shorter range of extension, you can save some money on signal extension while retaining a very high quality HDMI delivery,” explained Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen. “The shorter range GefenTV Extender for HDMI over CAT-5 provides a viable alternative to other longer distance, more expensive extension solutions.”

One CAT-5 cable is used to send HDMI along with multi-channel audio including DTS-Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD. 3DTV content is supported when combined with a 3D-ready source and display. The GefenTV Extender for HDMI uses compact desktop or wall mountable sender and receiver units. It comes with mounting plates and locking power supplies to assist with an easy installation.

Gefen’s New 8×8 Matrix for HDMI with FST Currently Shipping

Gefen’s recently announced Gefen ToolBox 8×8 CrossPoint Matrix for HDMI with FST (Fast Switching Technology) is currently shipping. Ideal for digital signage, post-production or home theater applications, this wall-mountable matrix connects any eight high definition sources to any eight HDTV displays. It works with Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, tablets and set-top boxes as well as displays and projectors equipped with HDMI. Users switch 1080p full HD video with digital audio between all eight hi-def sources and displays with support for 3DTV pass-through.

This matrix comes with Gefen’s FST, which vastly improves the time it takes for HDMI to switch different sources to a display. A transition that could typically take up to 10 seconds is now reduced to no delay. This is achieved through an improvement of the HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) handshaking process, which has been implemented into this new 8×8 matrix.

The Gefen ToolBox 8×8 Matrix for HDMI with FST comes in a slender enclosure that can be mounted on any wall. Installation requires the connection of up to eight sources and eight displays to the Matrix’s eight HDMI inputs and outputs. Convenient front-panel control buttons, IR remote, RS-232 and IP control options are all available for system automaton.

Gefen Releases Four New Ways to Extend DVI over Fiber

CHATSWORTH, CA – Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the shipping of four new extenders for DVI using fiber optic cables. Three employ small, modular sender and receiver units that streamline installations with a lightweight and efficient solution. Another uses the traditional rack mount sender and receiver unit for KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) extension. Fiber optic cable is ideal for applications in which electromagnetic interference (EMI) is an issue or when multiple extenders are used in tight spaces.

DVI Extender 1FO (DVI-CP-FM10)

This extender uses pig-tail style sender and receiver units that take up little space, and extend DVI up to 1000 feet (300m) using one strand of fiber optic cable terminated in SC. High resolution video is supported up to 1920×1200. Virtual EDID programming ensures a constant sync of the video source to the display. This DVI module is interchangeable with HDMI, with HDCP-compliance.

DVI 1FO Extender (DVI-FM15)

Two small sender and receiver modules offer a simple, straightforward method of connecting DVI directly at the source and display. High resolution (1920×1200) video is extended using a single-mode fiber optic cable up to 3280 feet (100m) or using a multi-mode fiber optic cable up to 1640 feet (500m). The die-cast modules provide a more robust solution than existing products supporting the same distance.

DL DVI 2FO Extender (DVI-FM2500)

Two small sender and receiver modules connect directly to the DVI connector at the source and display. Dual link DVI resolutions up to 3840×2400 are extended up to 1640 feet (500m) using two multi-mode fiber optic cables terminated in SC. A compelling price point makes it ideal for professional seeking alternative methods of long distance extension for dual link DVI.

DVI-3600HD

The DVI-3600HD is a KVM over fiber optic extender that sends DVI, RS-232, USB 2.0 and audio up to 1640 feet (500m) using four strands of multi-mode fiber optic cable. All signals travel along the same cables, making it well suited for professional applications. This product is an improvement over the DVI-3500HD and now supports USB 2.0 devices. It is rack mountable for added convenience.

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the availability of two new GefenTV Wireless for HDMI Extenders, offering smaller footprints, lower pricing and better performance. The ability to deliver uncompressed high definition 1080p full HD with no latency makes both solutions ideal for both consumer and professional applications. Each offers a quick and easy set-up with no cables required.

The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI Short Range (SR) sends HDMI to any remote display located within an 80 feet (25m) radius of the sender module that discreetly plugs-in to the source. It works with all laptops, set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and any source equipped with HDMI. It is recommended for in-room applications, such as conference rooms. Ease of set-up and the ability to connect three sender units to one receiver makes switching in-between different sources very simple. A USB port on the sender can be used for power.

The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI Long Range (LR) includes small sender and receiver units that connect any source equipped with HDMI to any remote display within a 100 foot (30m) radius of the sender. This long range model has the added ability to transmit high definition audio and video through walls, further expanding its applicability.

Both extenders support HDCP compliance, 3DTV pass-through and hi-def resolutions up to 1080p. Audio features include Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and PCM digital audio streams up to 7.1 channels.

With both models, up to three sender units can be connected, so three sources can be accessed through switching by an IR remote control, which is included.

Both GefenTV Wireless for HDMI solutions come with an MSRP of $399, begin shipping on May 13th and operate in the 5Ghz frequency band.

Two Enhanced Digital Signage Media Players with Wi-Fi from Gefen Offer HTML5 and Widgets for a More User Friendly Experience

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced that two updated digital signage media players are now shipping, further expanding the range of solutions it provides for the growing digital signage industry.

The Digital Signage Media Player with Wi-Fi and the Digital Signage Media Player with Wi-Fi Plus now utilize HTML5-based widgets to simplify and improve the user experience. The new widget-based system makes content creation simple, allowing a “drag and drop” function to import elements into the design. Date/time, RSS feeds and news widgets are already provided in the software that comes with both the Digital Signage Media Player with Wi-Fi and the Plus model. Users can upload playlists, create schedules and more for convenient content management. Both include a selection of twenty pre-designed templates for multiple zones to more effectively jump-start content development and deployment. The W3C SMIL implementation is ideal for software developers to ensure compatibility across different platforms.

Both allow an easy and convenient method of uploading content, either by sending content to connected displays through the media player or by saving content to a USB drive which can then be plugged directly into one of the 2 USB ports on the device, and copied directly to the internal memory on the device.

Both players support connection of an HDMI or analog (composite/component/VGA) display. USB connectivity is provided for interactive functionality using contact closure type relays and switches along with Gefen add-on products (sold separately).

Digital Signage Media Player with Wi-Fi

This LAN and WAN-based Media Player is connected to all displays on the network and uses wi-fi connectivity to receive digital signage content. It provides both digital (HDMI) and analog video (composite/component/VGA) outputs, supporting resolutions up to 1080p. Two-channel analog audio can be delivered along with the video if needed. Additional features include one-line scrolling text, calendar-based scheduling, pre-designed templates and a passive cooling system. With 4GB of flash memory with optional expansion up to 16 GB, this Media Player can satisfy demanding digital signage content needs.

Digital Signage Media Player with W-Fi Plus

This Plus model supports a live input video feed using the composite input in addition to all of the above features. The ability to place live video in predefined template zones on the display is well suited for more complex digital signage content. This Media Player also provides one-line scrolling text, 4 GB flash memory expandable to 16 GB, two-channel audio and support for today’s most popular video formats. RS-232 control is used for turning the display power on/off. It is also LAN and WAN-based and supplies both digital and analog outputs.

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the availability of its new Gefen ToolBox 8×8 Matrix for HDMI with FST (Fast Switching Technology). This plug and play matrix switcher allows direct connections between different high definition sources and displays without networking.

Any eight sources, including Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, tablets and set-top boxes can be switched to any eight displays using this new Matrix. High definition resolutions up to 1080p full HD with 3DTV pass-through are delivered instantly when selected.

FST is a Gefen technology that speeds the HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) handshaking process, which in the past could take up to ten seconds in transition when switching between sources. With FST, those ten seconds have been reduced to nearly no delay when switching sources, with high definition video appearing on the display immediately with no latency.

Installation is simple, requiring the connection of eight hi-def sources to the eight HDMI inputs, and the connection of eight hi-def displays to the eight HDMI outputs. Users can assign any source to any display, relaying video and multi-channel digital audio with no signal delays.

The 8×8 Matrix for HDMI with FST offers local front panel control, IR remote access and RS-232 for automation, IP control and is a lower cost alternative to previous product offerings.

Dual Link DVI over CAT-6 Extender

This rack-mount sender/receiver solution extends the high resolutions of dual link DVI (up to 3840×2400) using two CAT-6 cables, effective at distances up to 200 feet (60m). A plug and play installation, delivery of additional features such as RS-232 control and built-in EDID management makes the Dual Link DVI over CAT-6 Extender a solid performer for demanding dual link DVI applications. Locking power supplies and RS-232 firmware upgrades enhance performance.

DVI RS-232 over Fiber Extender

This ultra long distance extender relies on a single strand of SC-terminated fiber optic cable to deliver both DVI and RS-232 up to 1640 feet (500m) in distance. The use of fiber optic cabling is ideal for applications where EMI (electromagnetic interference) is an important issue. RS-232 allows for automation and control of the display while locking connectors for the power supplies ensure a solid and robust installation.

This next generation 4-port USB 2.0 hub extends up to four hi-speed devices up to 330-feet (100m) in distance. This allows users to operate peripherals away from the computer, ideal for setting up a remote workstation.

The USB 2.0 LR 4-Port Extender provides a high-bandwidth method of extending up to four printers, cameras, hard drives, DVD burners and more using a single CAT-5 cable. Data is transmitted at rates up to 480 Mbps, and the product is compatible with all previous versions of USB.

The USB 2.0 LR 4-Port Extender is simple to install and use. It operates through a wall-mountable sender/receiver system, available in either a black or white finish. The sender connects to the computer, and the receiver connects to four remote USB devices. One CAT-5 cable connects local and remote locations.

Power is typically supplied to the sender unit by the connected source device. If the source cannot power the unit, an optional 5-volt power supply is available. The receiver unit requires power, which is included with locking power supply

Two New GefenPRO ELR Extenders with POL (Power Over Line) Technology Deliver HDMI, Power, Ethernet, IR and RS-232 Over a Single CAT-5 Cable

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced that two new breakthrough products are currently shipping. The GefenPRO ELR (Extra Long Range) Extenders for HDMI with POL I and II both offer an extra long range extension of multiple signals up to 330-feet (100m) over just one CAT-5 cable.

Innovative Gefen POL technology based on the Power over Ethernet standard enables the delivery of power to the receiver unit using the AC power connected at the sender unit. Each receiver unit is equipped with an additional 5v output to power a supplemental product, such as a scaler, switcher or splitter at the display location.

The GefenPRO ELR Extender for HDMI with POL is ideal for installations where power requirements are limited or AC power outlets are not viable at the receiving side, such as when mounting projectors on the ceiling. By reducing the CAT-5 cable requirements from two to only one, it also allows installers to easily tap into existing in-wall CAT-5 type cabling, well suited for retrofitting.

HDMI resolutions of 1080p full HD, 3DTV support, audio, IR remote, RS-232 control, Ethernet and power are all delivered over a single CAT-5 cable to the remote location. Advanced HDMI features include 3DTV, deep color, lip sync and audio delay. Both the IR backchannel and RS-232 connection can be used to control the display from the remote location. Each receiver can be wall mounted for added convenience.

The GefenPRO ELR Extender for HDMI over CAT5 with POL II offers an optional receiver unit equipped with one additional HDMI input, so users can automatically switch between two HDMI sources, one connected to the sender, and the other connected to the receiver. Both HDMI sources can be alternately viewed at the remote location with auto switching, by IR remote, local front panel selection or RS-232 control. When one source powers down, this receiver will automatically switch to the alternative source.

Both products are rack mountable, come with a built-in internal power supply and are HDBaseT compliant.
