BASSBOSS Creates Custom DJ System for Red Bull and LANAI Rooftop Lounge

New booth as a centerpiece featuring awesome audio power, visual elegance and a very small footprint

Austin, TX (May 13, 2014)
– An elegant venue for dancing, relaxing and socializing, LANAI Rooftop Lounge in the heart of Austin, TX has great views, comfy couches, stylish décor and a diverse crowd that dances the night away to electronic and dance music. Their previous sound system and DJ booth took up far too much space and looked cluttered, without providing quality audio reproduction. LANAI and sponsoring partner Red Bull requested a custom design solution from BASSBOSS designer David Lee, who created a sound system in a DJ booth centerpiece that captures the aesthetic and offers sound that cleanly covers the entire room. The booth requires a very small footprint, leaving more room for customers and decor.

“The list of technical details that went into making this project sound great and perform ideally for the space is even longer than the extensive list of aesthetic touches that were applied to make it beautiful,” said Lee. The BASSBOSS DJ booth/sound system incorporates a 12,000 W sound system into an elegantly crafted structure that serves as a platform not only for DJ equipment but also as a visual element that focuses attention. The main system components consist of a pair of 21-inch woofers, four 10-inch midrange drivers and two 1.4-inch exit compression drivers on iso-phasic waveguides. Also included is a DJ monitoring system that features dual 8-inch woofers and 1-inch exit compression drivers on tractrix waveguides. On the main system, a 3400 W amplifier module powers each of the 21-inch woofers. The midrange drivers are powered with 750 W each, or 1500 W per side, and the tweeters each have over 500 W available. For the monitors, each side has a 2 channel 700 W amplifier. Four discrete digital signal processors provide crossover, time alignment, equalization and limiter functions.

According to Lesliann Nemeth, LANAI’s Creative Director, the sound is now ideal for the space: “Since it is a custom-built system, we were able to have it set within the parameters of our outdoor music permit, which was a big issue for us before. It is amazing the level of sound we can get being that it is concentrated within the booth.”

Sony Purchases New Consoles from Location Sound Corp.

Pro Audio Dealer Helps Sony Picture Studios Revamp Its Culver City Facilities


North Hollywood, CA (May 7, 2014)Location Sound completed their largest Q1 sale to Sony Picture Studio’s Culver City, CA, which is undergoing a revamp of its production facility. Sony’s purchase of eight live sound consoles—five Soundcraft Vi4s, one Soundcraft Vi6, and two Yamaha CL5s— will be used for audience sound reinforcement as well as recording of production dialog.

Sony’s choice of Soundcraft Vi4 and Vi6 consoles carries forward some continuity as the company had employed earlier analog models of Soundcraft Series FIVE consoles. Aside from the consoles’ smaller footprint and extensive modern features, upgrading to the latest digital models allows them to tap into the extensive fiber optic and Dante network that is instlled between stages and studios in the complex.

Val Asuncion, Location Sound’s Assistant Sales Manager, has been working with the Sony revamp project since November 2013. “The consoles are part of Sony’s production sound packages that are rented for various shows produced on the Sony lot, as well as other lots around Southern California. Since they were familiar with the sound and ergonomics of Soundcraft consoles, the Vi Series seemed a perfect fit”, Val said. Soundcraft’s Tom Der points out the long-standing relationship Location Sound has with Sony “made them the natural go-to vendor” for the deal.

Sony also had specific integration requirements for the Yamaha consoles used on the stage where Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were taped. For this reason, Jonathan Peirson, Yamaha’s District Manager, brought in twoYamaha CL5s and Rio stageboxes, a system that offered the best solution for integrating with the existing infrastructure. Since the consoles will be used in portable applications on stages with frequent changes, its ease of use, size, and features—such as scene memory and networking capabilities—played heavily into the buying decision.

“Location Sound has been on the forefront of showing products that work on a Dante network. And having recently become a Yamaha CL dealer, we partnered with them to show these capabilities on the consoles. It turned out to be perfect timing as Sony was looking to upgrade to consoles that would support a Dante network”, said Peirson.
