Clear-Com Drives Efficiency for Resorts World Manila’s Theater Productions

Additional Communication Paths Offered by Wireless and Wired Systems Boost Productivity

NEWPORT CITY, MANILA, PHILLIPINES, JANUARY 18, 2012 ─ Clear-Com, a global leader in critical voice communication systems, adds greater efficiency to productions at Resorts World Manila’s (RWM) Newport Performing Arts Theater by providing advanced intercoms with crystal-clear audio, robust functionality and immense flexibility. The high-end theater has installed a Clear-Com FreeSpeak wireless system and Encore partyline intercoms to facilitate communications between its production staff.

As the first integrated tourist hub in the Philippines, RWM combines lodging, restaurants, gaming facilities, entertainment spots, a luxury mall, and the Newport Performing Arts Theater, a majestic 1,500-seat venue for concerts, plays, musicals and exclusive productions. The Clear-Com FreeSpeak and Encore systems increase organization for the facility’s elaborate theater productions. The six communication paths offered by FreeSpeak, coupled with the four additional channels from Encore, segment the theater’s departments into distinctive communication groups. From elaborate set changes to lighting and other technical cues, the stage manager can easily coordinate between the production staff by contacting specific departments to share information that is only important to them.

“In most sets, we would require beyond the traditional two channels of wired intercommunications for the entire production crew. Simultaneous conversations about separate issues would be happening, creating much confusion, especially in the delivery of cues,” says Ernesto De Leon, Senior Technical Manager of Resorts World Manila. “These systems resolved this issue. Multiple channels of communication allow the production team to focus on what is pertinent to carry out their job responsibilities. The flexibility of this wireless technology allows unrestricted movements with excellent indoor coverage in the whole venue.”

The setup at the Newport Performing Arts Theater features a FreeSpeak base station with 10 wireless beltpacks and one Encore base station with 18 RS-Series wired beltpacks and 16 KB-series speaker stations. During productions, the stage manager, technical director and other mobile stage crew members utilize the wireless system. Because of the FreeSpeak’s DECT and wireless auto-roaming technologies, the crew members can move freely and communicate without fading or losing connection. Further, the lighting operator, sound operators and technicians underneath the stage, along with the orchestra and backstage crew, are all on the Encore partyline system.

“Clear communications is key when working with a large crew like the one at Newport Performing Arts Theater,” says Edmund Song, Regional Sales Manager, Southeast Asia, for Clear-Com. “Clear-Com understands this, which is why the company has developed value-add and easy-to-use technologies that actually enable users to concentrate better on their productions. FreeSpeak and Encore easily integrate with one another and offer the extra channel capability that the theater requires. These systems are also scalable for expansion in the future.”

Vatican Television Center Chooses Clear-Com Eclipse and Tempest2400 for HD OB Van

Staff Coordinates Coverage of Pope’s Daily Activities and Events in Vatican City Using Clear-Com Intercoms

ROME, ITALY, 17 JANUARY 2012 ─ Clear-Com, a global leader in critical voice communication systems, is pleased to announce that Vatican Television Center, known in Italy as Centro Televisivo Vaticano (CTV), the official broadcaster of Vatican City, has selected Eclipse-Median digital matrix and Tempest2400 digital wireless intercoms to help cover the official activities of Pope Benedict XVI as well as the ongoing religious events and services held at the Vatican. The extensive communication capabilities offered by the four connected Eclipse-Median, six I-Series intercom panels, two Tempest BaseStations and four Tempest BeltStations assure that CTV broadcasts have fast access to reliable, high-quality communications.

Since 1983, CTV, headquartered in Via del Pellegrino in Vatican City, has broadcast the Pope’s pastoral ministry and other activities of the Holy See. Each year, they cover about 200 events from inside the Vatican as well as during the Pope’s travels in Italy and abroad. The network’s footage is picked up via satellite by broadcasters, news agencies and editing facilities around the world. CTV has no production studios, as a majority of the broadcaster’s work is ENG. The new OB van, which has full HD capability, has become the central hub for critical operations at the network. Its four operating areas include the audio room, equipment room, primary and secondary production control with VTR and camera control.

“The combination of the Eclipse digital matrix with V-Series panels and Tempest2400 gives CTV a tremendous amount of communications flexibility, making it much less stressful to manage the broadcasting of the Pope’s ministry,” says Karlie Miles, Director of EMEA Sales, Clear-Com. “Our system has certainly proven to function flawlessly during critical situations. The signal transmitted from the Tempest2400 wireless intercom system easily penetrates the thick walls of the church and can travel far distances to the van. We are thrilled that CTV has entrusted Clear-Com to help deliver the Pontiff’s and Vatican’s message to worshippers around the world.”

The 112-port Eclipse-Medians, which interface with the I-Series intercom panels, provide the CTV team with fast audio routing, many communication paths and sophisticated features for ample flexibility and exhaustive functionality. Operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, the Tempest2400 utilizes patented Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum radio technology, which withstands frequency interference and maintains high quality audio for reliable communications. The two- or four-channel version Tempest2400 enables the employees in the CTV OB van to effectively coordinate between the OB’s production area and camera operators. Clear-Com improves the broadcasting experience of CTV by driving efficient collaboration with the robust Eclipse-Median and high performing Tempest2400 wireless system.

Auralex Custom Great GRAMMA Gives Oli Brown the Right Sound Clarity in Concert

GRAMMA Isolation Risers Decouple Guitar Amps on Stage

LONDON, JANUARY 11, 2012 — Every time award-winning British blues guitarist Oli Brown plays live with his band, he relies on Auralex’s Great GRAMMA (Gig and Recording, Amp and Monitor, Modulation Attenuator) isolation riser to decouple his guitar amplifier from the stage. The Great GRAMMA lets Brown deliver a clean front-of-house mix without the additional boom and swell associated with non-isolated instrument amplifiers. In addition, Auralex created a custom fabric covering for Brown’s Great GRAMMA.

Brown is one of the hottest young blues guitarists on the scene today. His latest release, Heads I Win Tails You Lose, won the 2011 British Blues Award for Best Album. Legendary British blues veteran Mike Vernon, known for his work with Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton and David Bowie, came out of retirement to produce the album.

During a recording session, Brown discovered Auralex’s Great GRAMMA, and he tried it out. He fell in love with the difference it made in the sound of his amp. “Hearing is believing,” says Brown. “The Great GRAMMA is amazing and it is now a main part of my stage set up.”

The Great GRAMMA, patented by Auralex, is an effective isolation device that is used to float an amp or loudspeaker, yielding nearly total acoustic isolation between an instrument amp or monitor speaker and the stage. By employing a Great GRAMMA, performers realize clarity of sound that honestly represents their artistic intent. The Great GRAMMA is 30 in. long x 19 in. wide x 2.75 in. high, with a maximum weight limit of 300 lbs. The Great GRAMMA also offers a 30 percent larger surface area to accommodate popular speaker configurations that feature 4 in. x 12 in., 15 in. or 18 in. speakers.

Brown took his custom Great GRAMMA on the road with him last month for his performances in Norwich, UK and Jakarta, Indonesia. He will also be traveling with his Auralex Great GRAMMA in 2012, as he already has several shows lined up throughout the UK and France.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Remote Recorders, a high-end mixing facility based in Sydney, Australia, recently stepped up its control room with a Solid State Logic C200 HD Digital Production Console. The studio, which features a large, well-equipped control room with associated overdub/vocal booth, mixes live presentations for content providers including iTunes Australia, Abbey Road Studios’ Abbey Road Live Here Now, and music television channels such as Channel [V], Music Max and the Country Music Channel. “The integrated features on the C200 are a lifesaver in terms of workflow efficiency,” states McCauley. “We can control our DAW from the desk and offer multiple 5.1 and stereo mixes to our clients. In every way, the C200 helps us to accomplish more in less time, while maintaining the highest quality levels, allowing us to participate in services like instant delivery.”
