Guitar Center Professional Helps Outfit the Islamic Center of Hernando County, Florida, with New Sound System and Acoustical Treatment

— Bose Panaray® MA12EX system and supporting technologies, as well as an acoustical treatment that cut the reverb time in the mosque in half and restored speech intelligibility during worship, show how GC Pro is the single best resource for any HOW AV need —

— Project was completed through GC Pro’s Affiliate program, with the help of program member Christian Sound Installations of Valrico, Florida —

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, February 8, 2012 — Like many houses of worship, the Islamic Center of Hernando County, in Spring Hill, Florida, had some specific audio issues: the main hall of the mosque had a reverb time measured at six seconds, enough to reduce speech intelligibility to near zero, and a second prayer room reserved for women had no separate sound system at all and had to rely solely on reflected sound from the men’s prayer hall for prayer leadership. A visit to Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, solved all of the space’s audio problems, thanks to GC Pro’s breadth of technology solutions and the depth of its Affiliate program, which lets GC Pro find exactly the right fit for system installation.

Last August, Christian Sound Installations of Valrico, Florida, one of the certified Affiliates in the highly successful national GC Pro Affiliate Program, installed a Bose Panaray® MA12EX full-range modular line array with four speakers in the men’s prayer hall, controlled via a Bose Control Space ESP-88 processor and powered by a Crown XTi 4002 amplifier. In addition, the women’s prayer hall now has its own sound system consisting of Bose FreeSpace® DS 100SE loudspeakers powered by a Crown XTi 1002 amplifier. A TASCAM CD-200i CD player with integrated Apple iPod® dock serves as the music source for both systems. When praying, the Imam’s lavaliere microphone was often muffled when his head bowed to the floor; a Countryman E6 wireless headset supplied by GC Pro solved that issue. And the main hall’s reverberation problem was eliminated with the application of acoustical absorption materials to the walls, cutting the six-second reverb time down to three seconds.

Mick Hall, Account Manager at the Tampa Bay-area GC Pro location, says that what they were able to accomplish cost-effectively at the Islamic Center of Hernando County is an example of how keenly GC Pro can help houses of worship solve their AV concerns. The solutions for any AV problem are within GC Pro’s extensive inventory, and ways to implement those solutions are at the ready through the Affiliates program, which allows customers to access the talents and skills of certified acoustical designers, acoustical architects, systems integration companies and other technical services organizations nationwide.

“We have all of the resources necessary to handle any situation, large or small, from renovation to ground up construction,” says Hall. “We have the product and systems solutions and we have the talent, in the form of people like Paul Garner, Owner of Christian Sound Installations, who can integrate those solutions in the best ways possible. That’s what GC Pro has to offer.”

Hall elaborated on how the system was put together: “Traditional mosques are very beautiful and also very live acoustic spaces,” he stated. “The client wanted a system that was small and unobtrusive to the room décor but powerful enough to be an effective upgrade of the existing ceiling speaker system. The main request of the sound system was that it be capable of substantially amplifying the sound in the space while still remaining open and natural enough to give the impression of no PA. It was also a requirement that the system be capable of extremely wide horizontal and controlled vertical dispersion to minimize reflections and artifacts caused by excessive spill on architectural details. Finally, the complete control for the system needed to be as compact and user friendly as possible. The system with Bose MA12EX Panaray speakers in the main room and DS100SE speakers in the anteroom along with the ESP-88 processor and CC-64 remote was an eloquent and high quality solution to solve all of the integration and performance criteria.”

Audio-Technica Presents “Get Your Own Mic”

Grunge is more than just a genre. As any singer knows, grunge (along with dirt, grime, and sludge) is what happens to a vocal microphone, especially when it’s shared among different performers. With their latest video, Audio-Technica humorously illustrates this phenomenon and urges singers to “Get Your Own Mic” – it should be a basic right for singers.

Please take a look at this clever, irreverent clip, and feel free to post to your website, share on facebook, add to newsletters, tweet or pass along to friends.

Legendary Engineer/Producer Ken Scott Enveloped by the PhantomFocus™ System

— Engineer for The Beatles and producer/engineer for Jeff Beck, David Bowie and Supertramp has monitoring epiphany with Carl Tatz Design’s PhantomFocus™ System tuning protocol —

Nashville, TN: “For the longest time I would espouse the use of the 7-foot-tall, half-ton behemoths, known as Cadac speakers. I had doubts whether I would ever again hear the clarity and power from those speakers that I used to mix albums like Supertramp’s Crime of the Century or Stanley Clarke’s Journey to Love et al. Those doubts have finally been erased after hearing the near field PhantomFocus™ System (PFS) from Carl Tatz Design. At last, something new that compares to the best of the past,” comments engineer/producer Ken Scott about the new-generation PFS.

Engineer and prolific author Bobby Owsinski , who was also on hand and who is co-writing the soon-to-be-released book Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust with Scott, explains, “This is high praise indeed. Ken is not impressed with ANY speaker system. He always uses the main soffit monitors in any room he works in and NEVER uses near fields. To have him so satisfied with the PFS is significant.”

“The PhantomFocus System is a new genre in monitoring where near fields become mains. In other words, you have the intimacy of your choice of near fields but the frequency response of mains – the best of both worlds,” says Carl Tatz, principal of Carl Tatz Design LLC and creator of the PhantomFocus System. “It was a real thrill for me to throw up the Beatles’ ‘Blackbird,’ which Ken had mixed and I had downloaded for the occasion, and be able to listen to it microscopically with him on the PhantomFocus System – hard to explain what that was like.”

Both Ken And Bobby had lots of questions about the system that longtime PFS user and iconic Nashville engineer Bob Bullock , who was also in attendance, was happy to answer. “Carl’s work is clearly beyond what anyone else has done or is doing. I’ve been spoiled for a long time, and I’m looking forward to upgrading to the latest PFS technology in my home mix room soon.”

Owsinski sums up his experience by admitting, “After hearing so much about the PFS from people whose ears I trust, I was eager to hear the system for myself. Sure enough, the PFS was so far beyond my expectations that it’s difficult to express. It has unparalleled pinpoint stereo imagery and a depth of field that has to be heard to be believed in both the near field and mid field PFSs. Finally, it’s now possible to really hear all those sonic layers that you take so much time building.”

In related news, Ken Scott has recently released EpiK DrumS EDU, a double DVD set of instructional videos and world-class drum samples from some of the world’s top rock and jazz drummers.

EAW® Names Scott Pizzo North American Sales Manager, East

Pizzo Returns to the Company and Will Help EAW Focus on Sales and Continued Growth

Whitinsville, MA, USA, January 24, 2012 – EAW®, a world leader in audio system technology for over 30 years, announces the appointment of Scott Pizzo to the position of North American Sales Manager, Eastern Region. Pizzo was previously part of the EAW team from 2003 through 2008, serving as U.S. Sales Director among other positions. The announcement was made by Jeff Rocha, EAW President, and reflects EAW’s ongoing emphasis on strengthening its sales channels and enhancing its customer relations.

Rocha states, “Re-hiring Scott is a critical step in strategically growing our internal capabilities. He brings tremendous experience and strong connections to dealers and end users. Plus, he’s intimately familiar with the EAW product line, so he can hit the ground running. Having Scott here in the home office will help us keep the sales perspective front-and-center.”

In his new capacity, Pizzo will focus on sales in the eastern half of North America, allowing Kurt Metzler, EAW’s existing North American Sales Manager to focus on the West. As EAW has positioned each sales resource closer to the customers they serve so they can deliver faster, more direct service, Pizzo and Metzler will manage the total North American territory cooperatively.

“Our business is complex to the point that an installation might be specified in one territory, awarded to a contractor in another and installed in a third,” Rocha said. “It just makes sense for Scott and Kurt to collaborate in driving our North American growth in 2012 and beyond.”

Before rejoining EAW, Pizzo served as Eastern U.S. Regional Sales Manager at Renkus-Heinz from 2008 through 2011. Prior to joining EAW for the first time in 2003, he worked as Product Specialist / Technical Sales at Lexicon Professional. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music in music performance with an emphasis in recording and production technology from University of Lowell (now UMass Lowell). His experience spans both the studio world and event production, and in his free time, he does freelance event production for local-area organizations and businesses.

Pizzo states, “EAW is like home to me. I was an EAW owner before I was an employee, having purchased an FR253HR in 1996 or so. I am looking forward to reconnecting with customers and building EAW to the greatness it deserves, because EAW is the best. It’s good to be home.”

Waves Announces Increased Popularity of SoundGrid® On DiGiCo SD7 and SD10 Consoles in the U.S.

— DiGiCo’s U.S. distributor, Group One Limited, reports that virtually all SD7 and SD10
consoles sold in the U.S. are equipped with Waves SoundGrid® —

KNOXVILLE, TN, January 23, 2012 — Waves Audio, the industry-leading developer of professional audio digital signal processing technologies and the recipient of a Technical GRAMMY® Award, is proud to be in an ongoing strategic alliance with DiGiCo, whose SD Series consoles – SD7 and SD10 – are virtually all shipping with Waves SoundGrid® in the U.S. In fact, DiGiCo’s U.S. distributor, Group One Limited, notes that almost all DiGiCo SD Series consoles are specified with Waves SoundGrid. The SoundGrid platform gives DiGiCo users access to Waves’ award-winning reverbs, equalizers, compressors, limiters, delays and more, directly from their consoles. In 2010, Waves formed the strategic alliance with DiGiCo, the renowned U.K.-based manufacturer of some of the world’s most popular, successful and groundbreaking digital mixing consoles.

Perfect for front-of-house, monitor, broadcast, and theater applications alike, SoundGrid gives users instant access to the industry’s leading audio processors, directly from the industry’s leading consoles. And to make things even simpler, Waves SoundGrid-compatible plugins come pre-loaded into DiGiCo consoles, eliminating the need to install.

Jack Kelly, Founder and President at Group One, DiGiCo’s U.S. distributor, stated, “The integration of Waves plugins into DiGiCo SD Series consoles gives live engineers the ability to really use their artistry – for example, to make changes on-the-fly without a break in the audio, shaping the sound for each and every act or different performance in the moment. We have also found that engineers who have been using the system love the 15-inch touch screen, which they can use for complete control of the Waves platform, versus using a keyboard and mouse. Waves SoundGrid opens a world of opportunity for live engineers working on DiGiCo SD Series consoles.”

“Waves is pleased that more and more live engineers are utilizing the SoundGrid platform on DiGiCo SD Series consoles,” said Mick Olesh, senior vice president of Waves Audio. “Now that most SD7 and SD10 consoles are shipping fully loaded with SoundGrid, it will be easier than ever to bring Waves studio-quality audio processing to the stage.”
