Royal Credit Union Puts StrandVision Digital Signage at the Center of its Member Communications

Early adopter of StrandVision’s new Linux Digital Media Player…

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Feb. 4, 2014 – Royal Credit Union is further expanding its already extensive StrandVision Digital Signage network with additional branch and drive-up locations. It will be using StrandVision’s recently introduced R360 Linux digital media player to drive new digital signage installations.

RCU, a StrandVision customer since 2004, has StrandVision electronic signage in 15 of its lobbies and has integrated it directly into drive-up teller operations at eight locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. It will add eight more lobbies and additional drive-ups in 2014.

RCU is continuing to expand its relationship with StrandVision based on its positive experience over the years. “The StrandVision Digital Signage system works well,” commented Bruce Lubinski, RCU network administrator and server engineer. “It’s very stable and quite frankly, it just works. New installations will come right up and it has a nice client interface that makes it easy. We’ve also been quite happy with Mike Strand and his company. He’ll chat with you and is willing to consult for free.”

RCU’s lobby displays generally include a single 50” monitor per lobby and speakers that are placed to cover the waiting customer queue without disrupting staff or teller conversations. The lobby programming includes StrandVision-provided content like weather, plus personalized text and graphics pages, along with RCU’s televisions ads.

The branch locations with drive-up teller services have a separate, non-audio StrandVision Digital Signage network to serve customers. The drive-up signage includes all of the same content except TV ads that require audio. The signage is directly integrated into RCU’s Hamilton Air drive-up kiosks and is displayed on the drive-up’s teller communication monitor. The system screen shows the teller whenever he/she activates the audio/video channel, and displays the digital signage pages while the transaction is being completed and when the drive-up is idle between transactions.

StrandVision Provides a New Approach

The new installations being rolled out in 2014 will be the first to take advantage of StrandVision’s new R360 Linux point-of-display digital media players. This upgrade will simplify installation and administration by eliminating Windows update issues and enabling closer integration with StrandVision’s cloud servers to virtually eliminate maintenance issues.

During installation the StrandVision point-of-display digital media players automatically connect to a StrandVision digital signage host server in the cloud, log in using the preset username and password, initialize the connection and begin transmitting RCU’s digital signage content in seconds.

During operation the StrandVision media player reduces bandwidth usage and improves stability by self-correcting most issues and automatically sending system performance updates and alerts to StrandVision and RCU’s digital signage system administrators. The Linux digital media players can also operate in standalone mode using cached digital signage content pages if there is a prolonged break in Internet communications.

“We’re pleased that RCU continues to expand and to take full advantage of StrandVision’s ever-improving, easy-to-implement, easy-to-use cloud-based digital signage network,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We’ve worked together over the past ten years to expand and upgrade their StrandVision Digital Signage System and we’re honored to be such an important part of their member communication program for all these years.”

It is located at: http://www.strandvision.net/leasing_technology_like_car_companies.html.

StrandVision Digital Signage Helps Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Communicate Their Heritage and Values

PABLO, Mont. – Dec. 12, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) are using its Internet-based digital signage system to communicate their heritage and values to CSKT employees, Tribal people and visitors.

CSKT faced a unique communications challenge in finding an innovative, visually interesting way to reach multiple audiences. It selected StrandVision Digital Signage for a display at its headquarters in Pablo, Montana. Since the StrandVision system is hosted in the cloud and requires only minimal onsite digital media player hardware, the CSKT were able to redeploy a surplus computer and 27” display for the initial installation, eliminating out-of-pocket equipment costs. In addition to the display in the lobby, the StrandVision network also broadcasts on the Char-Koosta News public web site for no additional charge.

The StrandVision Digital Signage features regular updates for employees, such as holiday and training schedules, awards and other human resources announcements through text, graphics and video content. Both the in-lobby display and the website digital sign include announcements for Tribal people on the reservation. Notices range from Tribal government news to hunting and fishing dates, healthcare updates, as well as upcoming community events – such as home buying classes, the mission/values statement and local weather, including weather radar that is automatically provided by StrandVision.

Since the CSKT headquarters in Pablo is the focal point for contact with outside constituents, including elected government officials, chambers of commerce, and visitors from around the world, the StrandVision signage also offers an easy way to personally welcome each guest and expose them to CSKT history and values.

“The goal from the start was to make the digital signage an extension of us telling our story. That’s what drew me to StrandVision,” commented Robert McDonald, CSKT communications director. “It’s a powerful tool to help us tell our story in small chapters in a visually interesting way.”

The StrandVision electronic signage network is now poised to be expanded to other locations across the 1.317 million acre – almost double the size of Rhode Island – CSKT Flathead Reservation with local government departments deploying their own implementation of the signage.

“The CSKT are in a perfect position to take advantage of StrandVision’s cloud-based digital signage approach,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “Any location with an Internet connection can be connected and show the programming that includes shared content from Pablo mixed in with its own individually created local programming. With both Web and onsite signage presence, the StrandVision network has the potential to reach virtually everyone on the Flathead Reservation.”

StrandVision Digital Signage Offers New Digital Media Player Signage Backgrounds

StrandVision makes it easy to select a background template.

Also offers customers the option to submit custom backgrounds…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Dec. 3, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced additional electronic sign background templates along with enhancements to the StrandVision service that allows subscribers to submit their own personalized backgrounds to create a consistent business marketing look across their digital signage network.

With the update, StrandVision now includes many standard background templates that are all automatically sized to the proper aspect ratio of standard TVs, wide screen flat panel displays and vertical orientations to fit the screen attached to the digital media player and its setup. Administrators can also change fonts, styles, colors and live clock viewing settings to fit their design needs.

In addition, StrandVision now offers its customers the option of submitting their own custom background templates. For a nominal charge, StrandVision converts PowerPoint, graphic, desktop publishing or animated flash files that are designed internally or by their marketing agency to the format used by StrandVision. Once installed to their account, the additional templates become available to the customer through a simple dropdown menu. Customers can submit multiple background templates for different company divisions, different target audiences or to reinforce special events, holidays or important upcoming dates.

“These background template choices allow StrandVision customers to keep their signage content fresh while having the ability to customize the look and feel to their exact specifications,” said Mike Strand StrandVision Founder and CEO. “It’s another enhancement that adds to the simplicity, flexibility and usability of the StrandVision Digital Signage Network.”

StrandVision’s free digital signage test drive has also been enhanced to further customize the look of digital signage content. Anonymous visitors can quickly and easily create their own custom electronic signage. Interested visitors who want to convert their personalized digital signage content to the full system and install on their own digital media player can also create functional 30-day demos just by entering their email address and password as the last step.

StrandVision Digital Signage Enhances its Electronic Sign Database Capabilities

Offers powerful digital signage content enhancements, as well as custom database design and integration services…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Oct. 30, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced enhanced database capabilities and database consulting services to help its customers display dynamic digital signage content information over their electronic sign networks.

The enhancements are designed to make it easy for administrators to input, organize and graphically display business marketing and corporate information, such as inventory and warehouse control information, events, real estate listings, birthdays and count down/count up duration tracking.

User Selectable Electronic Sign Flexibility

The StrandVision Digital Signage customizable database now features user-selectable text and background colors for each record that can be filtered based on the status of the event priority or proximity. The elapsed duration time automatically displays minutes, hours and days from the date entered for each record that counts up or down on the digital media player display, depending on the application. In addition, information can be set up to be selected for display only as an event approaches; for instance, a database of employee birthdates or service anniversaries can be set to display only anniversaries within a month, week or some other defined timeframe before or after the current playback time.

For inventory control, text or background colors for each record in the database can change from green to yellow and ultimately red (or any other color combination) as performance or other deadlines approach. For example, in a loading dock application the counter can be set for each arrival to count up elapsed time or count down to the loading deadline and change text and background color as deadlines arrive.

Different StrandVision Digital Signage pages can display different views of a single database based on user configured filters. For instance, incoming shipments and outgoing shipments can both be entered in the same user-defined database but displayed on separate digital signage content pages using preconfigured selection criteria. Another example would be realtors who can select to display different content pages for house prices within price ranges, such as setting pages for >$100,000 to <$150,000 etcetera.

In another enhancement, StrandVision has expanded its digital signage database display with natural sort capabilities to embed HTML reports within the customer's own Web page. This is an effective way to distribute real-time performance to managers’ computer displays and mobile devices without programming using the customer’s existing Internet or intranet Web page.

“Most of these enhancements can be easily set up by any authorized StrandVision Digital Signage user on the StrandVision cloud portal,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “Yet, we also offer low-cost database design and integration services for more sophisticated applications that are integrated in real-time with corporate databases and systems.”

Custom Electronic Signage Database Integration Services

StrandVision programmers can work with customers’ Information Technology staffs to securely and fully integrate or access corporate data through File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or other technologies. This allows dynamic electronic signage content details to be updated to the signage and Web page portal in real-time.

“We offer database options that span from simple standalone capabilities that are free to fully integrated data connectivity with up-to-the-minute updates,” continued Strand. “They’re all flexible and attractively displayed over any or all digital media players on the customer's Digital Signage network.”

About StrandVision

StrandVision LLC, based in Menomonie, Wis., delivers low-cost, Web-based digital signage software through a patented Software as a Service (SaaS) approach that delivers content to subscribers' flat screen televisions, as well as computer screens, websites and mobile devices. StrandVision Debuts Smart Phone Digital Signage Status Monitoring

Stoplight icons give electronic signage administrators easy, instant updates at a glance…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Aug. 20, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage, today announced an innovative digital signage utility that enables electronic sign administrators to monitor the status of their StrandVision Digital Signage networks via a desktop PC or a smart phone from anywhere and at any time.

The new notification utility employs familiar and easily understood stoplight icons to indicate overall and individual digital media player status. Green obviously signals normal operations; Yellow indicates a potential problem that usually has not yet affected signage operation; Red indicates a communication or player issue that has put the digital media player in automatic recovery mode while it waits for updates.

“StrandVision Digital Signage’s patented delivery system is rock solid but occasionally there are Internet or in-building distribution, power or media player issues,” commented Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “This new dashboard provides an instant snapshot of any digital media player that may be powered down or has rebooted due to a Microsoft update. Our smart phone utility lets administrators keep an eye on things to immediately address the situation and confirm the recovery results.”

Remote Monitoring – Instant Response
Administrators can easily see the signage status at a glance and drill down as necessary. The free smart phone monitoring utility is especially helpful for administrators of multiple digital signage networks. In that case, the top level stoplight indicates if there is an issue with any player in the system. Administrators are then able to drill down through the individual networks to zero in on the specific digital signage player at issue. Specific details for any electronic sign player can be seen by clicking on the appropriate stoplight.
This new capability supplements StrandVision’s automatic email notification system that sends status notifications to administrators and/or designated technical staff.

“This is another example of a customer request being translated into a free digital signage feature,” said Strand. “In this case, the administrator of a major Midwest hospital network mentioned that he would like to be able to remotely check on the status of their digital signage network from his phone and we knew that others could benefit from such a smart phone notification utility.”

The free StrandVision Digital Signage smart phone utility is available immediately to registered subscribers. Subscribers simply log onto their online accounts at the StrandVision portal at www.StrandVision.com select “Your Account” and then the “Snapshot” option.

StrandVision Digital Signage Celebrates 10-year Anniversary

Looks back on electronic signage accomplishments – Forward to future…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Aug. 6, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage, a pioneer in patented, cloud-based digital signage delivery, is celebrating ten years in business.

StrandVision was established in August 2003 as an Internet-based subscription electronic sign software service under the name of Online-Kiosks.net by Mike Strand. Strand had previously founded StrandWare, a barcode label software company, that he built into a worldwide industry leader before selling it to Brady Corp.

A New Approach
The new company, soon renamed StrandVision Digital Signage to better reflect its mission, took a different approach by delivering low-cost, high-availability Internet-hosted digital signage services through a soon-to-be-patented Software as a Service (SaaS) technology.

The Internet delivery system eliminated the need for complex and expensive onsite hardware. It served content to subscribers’ televisions, including LCD and plasma displays, as well as computer screens and websites. Its Web-based service made it easy for administrators with limited technology and design expertise to set up, maintain and quickly distribute weather, news, text messages, graphics, and video content to their digital signage networks over their normal Internet networks using standard equipment that they often had on hand.

The approach proved popular in the market – StrandVision has delivered a record of success and more than 6 billion digital signage content pages to customer displays. It has experienced average annual growth of 42 percent and maintains a 99 percent customer retention rate. It also is A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau. Customers range from industrial distributors and manufacturers to hotels, schools, colleges and churches across North America and around the world. Employee communications has emerged as a primary use for StrandVision Digital Signage networks for companies of every size.

“We had a new vision that took advantage of the evolving Web, the wider distribution of high-speed, low-cost, reliable Internet services and the increasing comfort level of people working with office-level applications,” commented Strand. “It was a risk at the time and was portrayed as a disadvantage by some – especially the vendors that sold the high-priced, complex systems. But we were and are able to deliver sophisticated, self-administered digital signage with instant updates for a few hundred dollars that traditionally cost tens of thousands of dollars.”

A History of Accomplishments
StrandVision’s corporate history is marked by a number of accomplishments beginning with a series of seed money awards and investments totaling $445,000 from the 2005 Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest; the Eau Claire [Wis.] Area Economic Development Corporation and The Chippewa Valley Angel Investors Network.

The list of milestones includes:
• August 22, 2005 – StrandVision Digital Signage Establishes Reseller Program
• April 28, 2008 – StrandVision Debuts High-Definition PC-2 TV.net Video and Audio Transmitter/Extender
• September 23, 2009 – 5th Year Anniversary – Introduces Free Digital Signage Test Drive
• April 8, 2010 – Mike Strand Granted Patent (#7,685,259) for Digital Signage Technology
• May 18, 2010 – StrandVision Offers Preconfigured Point-of-Display Linux Digital Media Player
• September 20, 2011 – StrandVision Introduces Mobile Digital Signage Player for Vehicles
• March 13, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage Player Software for the Mac
• July 10, 2012 – StrandVision Surpasses Five Billion Digital Signage Content Pages

In addition, countless additions and refinements have been made to StrandVision servers and user interfaces and hundreds of new features (mostly free) have been added to the subscription plans.

Customer Service is Key
Throughout the years StrandVision has stood out with its customer support. At StrandVision, the staff is entirely focused on personalized customer service through phone, live chat and Web support, as well as frequent introductory and advanced user webinars and one-on-one interactive training sessions. The administrator portal is constantly updated to add features and make it easier to use.

StrandVision is so confident in its support that it routinely shares its digital signage knowledge with customer prospects and even helps configure entire digital signage networks, all at no cost – even if they choose to select another digital signage vendor. Prospects interested in learning about digital signage can call StrandVision at 715-235-7446.

“We believe that we are one of the most customer-responsive digital signage companies around,” said Strand. “We repeatedly hear that we’re always available, and we don’t charge extra for advice. This close relationship with our customers along with our 10 years of stability pays big dividends for everybody – 100 percent of the new product features that we’ve introduced over the years have been in direct response to customer requests. Most of the features that we’ve added have been included in the subscriptions for free.

“It’s been an exciting 10 years,” concluded Strand. “Despite an historic recession we managed to continue to grow and help our customers promote their products and communicate with their employees. We’re excited about the prospects for the next 10 years and look forward to meeting many new customers and building lasting relationships.”
