StrandVision Announces Service to Convert PowerPoint Slides to Graphic Images for Digital Signage and Other Applications

Free, no registration PowerPoint to JPG conversion service lets users develop basic digital signage content for playback on flat screen TVs and digital photo frames…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – July 24, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage today introduced a new online PowerPoint 97 and higher (PPT & PPTX) to graphic (JPG) conversion service available on-demand to the public. The no cost service, hosted by StrandVision, enables users to convert individual PowerPoint slides or entire presentations into higher-quality JPG files than is available through built-in PowerPoint conversion utilities. The service enables users to create basic, free digital signage content for flat screen televisions and digital photo frames, which typically cannot display PowerPoint loops but can automatically browse photos.

“Throughout our ten years we’ve heard from people who want to ‘stick their toe’ into digital signage before making a financial commitment,” commented Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “For those folks we’ve created our 30-day free digital signage trial. But some people have small toes and want to experiment with a more basic approach for the long term. This new conversion service meets that need. No registration, no cost, no hassle – just a basic display system that uses existing TVs and digital photo frames with digital media playback capability.

“We feel that giving people this no obligation electronic signage solution will introduce them to the power and revenue growth offered by digital signage and may lead to an upgrade to a full-blown StrandVision Digital Signage system when they’re ready for the maintenance free, easy-to-update dynamic content that our solution provides.”

Quick, easy conversions

To take advantage of this service users simply visit the StrandVision conversion page at http://www.strandvision.com/free_digital_signage_powerpoint_converter.html. There they are asked for their name and email address – there is no registration, credit card or other information required. They upload the PowerPoint file and usually within 10 minutes an email is sent with instructions on how to download and use the ZIP file of the JPG versions of the slides.

Once downloaded, they simply copy the images to a USB drive and insert it into the USB slot of an appropriately configured television, digital photo frame, PC or tablet to play the slide loop. The digital signage pages are “snapshots” of the PPT pages and do not include builds, videos and other animations. Dissolves and fades are governed by the capabilities of the digital media display units.

The service is also available to people who simply want to convert PowerPoint slides to JPGs for other purposes, such as for inclusion in printed materials, posters or other applications that require higher quality graphics.

StrandVision Digital Signage Enhances “Proof of Playback” Electronic Sign Feature

Introduces new capabilities to help customers audit digital signage advertising – certify that benefits/employee communication announcements are shown…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – June 25, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage has enhanced its free digital signage “proof of playback” feature for its electronic signage customers. Proof of playback enables StrandVision Digital Signage subscribers to record, collect and analyze both the display frequency and duration of selected digital signage content pages, images, database records and videos. The enhancements include easier tracking selection for administrators and additional reporting capabilities.
The feature is ideal for companies and organizations that sell advertising on their digital media player displays that want or need to audit pages in order to certify that the particular digital signage content has been displayed, as well as for billing purposes.
Proof of playback is also valuable for employee communication of benefits and other human resources announcements to certify that necessary information is shared with employees during enrollment periods and to ensure that other regulatory or contractual communications requirements are met. Business marketing applications in specific industries, such as real estate, enable agents to let clients know the broadcast frequency of their listings as part of their overall marketing campaigns.
The proof of playback free digital sign feature is easy to use. After creating a page on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS) the administrator simply goes to the proof of playback area on the site and selects the digital signage content to be tracked. The StrandVision system immediately begins tabulating the display data for the selected information. In addition to electronic signage pages, specific images, videos and user defined database records can also be tracked.
For large electronic sign networks with multiple groups of display screens, proof of playback can be set to report page displays by group. Proof of playback also tracks page frequency on the customer’s website if the system is set to take advantage of this free StrandVision Digital Signage display capability.
Reports can be viewed on the StrandVision content management portal and the raw data can also be downloaded as source data for invoices, graphs, presentations and reports.
“Our customers tell us that the proof of playback capability is a helpful tool to generate revenue from their digital media networks,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “It’s also a way for them to fully realize the potential of their StrandVision Digital Signage to support advertising and become an integral part of their overall employee communications mix. We’re sure that our customers will find many other creative ways to use the power of the proof of playback feature.”
Proof of playback is available immediately as a free digital signage capability for all StrandVision Digital Signage subscribers with streaming video and higher packages.

StrandVision Digital Signage Content Portal Now Offers Three Expertise Levels for Signage Design Control

Introduces Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels for Electronic Signage Content Management System to provide digital sign content administrators with ease-of-use and the right level of control…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – June 5, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage has enhanced its Web-based Digital Signage Content Management System (CMS) portal to include three skill levels for electronic signage content administration. The three-tiered approach presents administrators with tailored selections to help them quickly and easily design, post and distribute digital signage pages. Offered as a free digital signage upgrade for all StrandVision subscribers, the enhanced user interface is available immediately.

“The StrandVision electronic signage system is designed to be simple and very flexible,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “New users are automatically registered at the Beginner user level and after their free digital signage training most quickly move to Intermediate. Those who want to have the greatest level of digital signage content design control simply select the Advanced level on the administrator portal and they are presented with all of the design options for the particular page type.”

StrandVision’s enhanced user interface controls the design options that users see when they work with their StrandVision Digital Signage pages. Beginners see a less extensive set of choices, which makes page administration simpler; Advanced users have more choices and more control. The system allows Beginner users to modify pages created by an advanced user without disrupting higher-level settings. This also allows the user to temporarily access Advanced digital signage content features without having to stay at the more feature-rich level.

For instance, for the “Paragraph with Photo” template page, Beginners are offered a selection of fields for entering a title, paragraph content and photo. Intermediate users can also add a subtitle and direct the system to use the full digital media player screen, while Advanced users can play with color options, photo position, add Quick Response (QR) code fields and adjust text alignment, fonts and effects.

For detailed descriptions of the user-level options for each StrandVision Digital Signage content page type template visit http://www.strandvision.com/listkiosk.html. Current StrandVision Digital Signage subscribers may select their user level by logging into their account and clicking the “User Mode” option in the “Modify Pages” section.

StrandVision Introduces No Charge Digital Signage Override Feature for Employee Training and Communication

Technimark is first to implement automated hourly training sessions broadcast to employees in break rooms using StrandVision Digital Signage Software…

MENOMONIE, Wis.– May 21, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage has introduced a new free electronic signage feature that enables its customers to automatically override the normal digital signage feed in order to provide regularly scheduled or ad hoc training, host employee meetings and offer special communications. The option is an enhancement to the traditional emergency message override that replaces normal digital signage content in seconds. The administrator configures the selection on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS) – scheduling training for days or even weeks ahead.

The training override schedule is designed to help StrandVision customers fully leverage their digital signage systems. They can use their employee communication signage infrastructure to deliver any of StrandVision’s two dozen digital signage content templates including photos, text, PowerPoint-based slide presentations (with or without audio, depending on their installation), and even video presentations.

StrandVision’s Digital Signage network is ideal for large, multi-location companies that need to efficiently distribute standardized training or corporate-wide messages to employees. This new feature makes it easy to automatically add certification training, test preparation, breaking company news, as well as special broadcasts during benefits enrollment periods.

The override feature can be scheduled hourly, daily, weekly, or in any number of other configurations, and has similar flexibility to automatically end and return to the normal digital signage broadcast. Its “set it and forget it” approach makes it easy to reach all employees on all shifts in all locations with a single, timely, consistent message. The override feature can also be manually activated or deactivated as needed until the next scheduled change.

Technimark

Technimark, an international manufacturer based in Asheboro, N.C., was the first to implement this new feature. It is using StrandVision Digital Signage to deliver PowerPoint-based training modules directly to employees in break rooms 24/7. The training modules are scheduled to automatically override the standard digital signage content on the hour, every hour, for 15 minutes. The training modules supplement training and eliminate the additional wage cost for extended shift training meetings.

“We developed this capability specifically for Technimark but soon realized its potential for all of our customers,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We’re now making this available to everyone as a free digital signage option selectable on our StrandVision portal. As with all of our new features, I’m sure our customers will come up with other creative ways to use the training override that’s unique to their situations.”

StrandVision Digital Signage Extends Electronic Sign World Weather Coverage

Free digital signage international weather service app available immediately to StrandVision signage network users…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – May 1, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it has extended its free digital signage weather forecast service to its electronic signage customers around the world. This complements its weather service covering the United States that has been available as a free digital signage content option to customers since the company’s founding.

The StrandVision electronic sign network automatically formats and presents the weather information based on the geo-location of the physical screen as part of the normal electronic signage content page mix. The local weather condition and forecast information is updated hourly and automatically sent to all digital media players configured to use it. Customers with multiple licenses can present localized weather forecasts simply by activating the weather service option for their entire network or any user specified group.

The new weather service option, provided by World Weather Online (http://www.worldweatheronline.com), uses global positioning (GPS) information entered by the customer to deliver accurate, local, up-to-date weather reports. StrandVision automatically detects and enters this information into the customer’s account during the free digital signage software registration. Account administrators have the option of refining the GPS information in order to provide more accurate localized weather reports.

“We’ve provided the licensed free digital signage weather content for our United States customers since we started almost 10 years ago,” commented Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “However, as our customer base continues to expand internationally we decided to make the investment to provide localized electronic sign weather content around the globe. Now, we provide free digital signage weather content to all of our customers anywhere in the world, from Aruba to Zürich and everywhere in between, with a simple selection on our online electronic signage portal.”

Manzano High School Turns to StrandVision Digital Signage for Student Communication

Uses existing television cable network and a surplus MacBook computer to drive the digital signage system…

Albuquerque, N.M. – March 12, 2013 – Manzano High School has installed a digital signage system using StrandVision Digital Signage software. The system reaches students in six public areas and is also available in several classrooms across the campus.

Like many schools, Manzano had a cable television network that was underutilized. Staff recognized the potential of the cable system to augment daily announcements, posters and other communications in order to let students know about upcoming events and build school spirit by recognizing student clubs, activities and achievements.

The electronic signage system also brings another dimension to student communications. Since it is a visual medium, it offers the opportunity to feature pictures of students at social and sporting events. It is also being used to promote signups for advanced placement classes and other electives such as photography, anthropology, art history and DECA, to name a few.

Explained Ken Tuley, assistant principal and system administrator, “If kids don’t have a class at the time of the daily announcements or they’re not paying attention, they could miss the audio announcements. With digital signage the news is on the screens throughout the day, including lunch, so they have the opportunity to see them several times throughout the day.”

Something Old – Something New

Using the existing cable system and a combination of old televisions and newer flat screens several public areas including lobbies, the snack bar and offices have digital signage displays. Teachers in classrooms are encouraged to turn on their televisions to display the digital signage between classes and during breaks.

The system connects to StrandVision Digital Signage cloud servers over the Internet to display the announcements and to access additional services, such as local weather. The Internet-based signage system eliminates the need for costly onsite servers and networking gear. Contributors, including the activities director and other administrators, log on to the StrandVision website to add daily announcements and to post pictures. The new announcements are sent to the MacBook within minutes to update all of the electronic signs.

“Manzano is an example of using old infrastructure to bring the latest technology to its students,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “They took existing assets, the cable network, televisions and an old MacBook, and coupled it with the latest in cloud-based digital signage technology to deliver a new student communication medium at minimal cost. Manzano is a very cost-effective model for other schools to emulate in communicating with students and parents during these tight budget times.”

StrandVision Digital Signage Enhances Customer-Facing Front-of-House Capabilities with Events Scheduling Displays

Free digital signage software reader board feature directly imports schedules from proprietary and commercial events management and sales software…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Feb. 26, 2013 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced the ability to incorporate events scheduling information directly into its digital signage software. The new feature works with most events management software products including Delphi and can be customized to support proprietary and in-house developed meeting and event scheduling and sales systems.

The events scheduling integration is attractive to hotels and convention centers, restaurants and function halls, and even houses of worship and schools. It was initially developed for the proprietary sales application for one of the top ten global hotel chains. As part of the implementation process, StrandVision worked directly with the customer’s IT staff to develop and to receive certification for the interface that the digital signage cloud servers use to access the information in real time.

The StrandVision events scheduling digital signage software is easy to use. Once the interface is developed, StrandVision subscribers simply select the reader board capability on the StrandVision Content Management System (CMS) dashboard to have the events information displayed on their digital media players in a variety of formats showing all events for the day or only those that occur in the future or are currently in session.

The scheduling information can be added to other promotional or informational digital signage content mixes or drive room-specific displays. With the split-screen capability of the Streaming Video package, events can be displayed at all times while other business marketing material appears in other regions of the digital signage player screens. The StrandVision interface cuts down on administrative time required to post meeting information on multiple systems and also increases accuracy and timeliness.

“StrandVision Digital Signage can import room and events schedules from most events management software packages,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We have global customers that are using the capability for both back-of-house employee communication and front-of-house customer-facing business marketing and room notices.”

StrandVision Digital Signage Software Adds Social Media to Employee Communications Networks

Supports employee recognition programs and keeps employees informed…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Nov. 15, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today introduced a new facility that enables administrators of its digital signage software to add and automatically update social media information sources, such as Facebook and Twitter, to their digital signage networks. This capability can be a valuable add-on for employee communication initiatives supplementing employee motivation and recognition programs and to keep staff up to date on developing local news.

Employee recognition/motivation – In addition to general social media sources, such as Facebook and Twitter, StrandVision digital signage also works with employee communications-specific sites like GiveAWow.com and Achievers.com. These sites allow supervisors and even employees to post comments, recognize employee achievements and some even have points that can be redeemed for rewards. These postings are automatically gathered by StrandVision digital signage cloud servers and displayed on the designated digital media player serving employee areas, such as break rooms, cafeterias, hallways and entrances.

Employee information – Another popular application takes advantage of the trend of organizations posting information to social media sites to keep the public up to date on breaking news. StrandVision customers are using the links to post up-to-the-minute public transit notices, such as delays and cancellations, local weather advisories and other developing local news of interest to their employees. These types of feeds were widely used by New York and New Jersey digital signage subscribers during and after Hurricane Sandy. The digital signage social media news gathering mechanism can also be used to automatically post local community news.

“This is yet another innovative use that takes advantage of the flexibility and capabilities of StrandVision Digital Signage,” commented Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “Our strong offering in employee communication digital signage now extends to social media and best of all, once set up, administrators can just let it run. They can be confident that the latest employee recognition notices or commuter/community information is constantly available to employees.”

In order to connect to the social media feeds, administrators simply link to the social media’s content stream’s RSS feed. The RSS link is copied and pasted into a digital signage template on the customer’s cloud-based administrator portal on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS). Once set up, the page is added to the digital signage content page rotation and StrandVision servers monitor the information source every 15 to 60 minutes and automatically update and display the information to the designated digital media players across the StrandVision Digital Signage network. The new social media feature is another free digital signage capability that is available immediately to StrandVision electronic signage subscribers by logging in to their CMS portal at StrandVision.com.
