StrandVision Digital Signage Software Adds Social Media to Employee Communications Networks

Supports employee recognition programs and keeps employees informed…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Nov. 15, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today introduced a new facility that enables administrators of its digital signage software to add and automatically update social media information sources, such as Facebook and Twitter, to their digital signage networks. This capability can be a valuable add-on for employee communication initiatives supplementing employee motivation and recognition programs and to keep staff up to date on developing local news.

Employee recognition/motivation – In addition to general social media sources, such as Facebook and Twitter, StrandVision digital signage also works with employee communications-specific sites like GiveAWow.com and Achievers.com. These sites allow supervisors and even employees to post comments, recognize employee achievements and some even have points that can be redeemed for rewards. These postings are automatically gathered by StrandVision digital signage cloud servers and displayed on the designated digital media player serving employee areas, such as break rooms, cafeterias, hallways and entrances.

Employee information – Another popular application takes advantage of the trend of organizations posting information to social media sites to keep the public up to date on breaking news. StrandVision customers are using the links to post up-to-the-minute public transit notices, such as delays and cancellations, local weather advisories and other developing local news of interest to their employees. These types of feeds were widely used by New York and New Jersey digital signage subscribers during and after Hurricane Sandy. The digital signage social media news gathering mechanism can also be used to automatically post local community news.

“This is yet another innovative use that takes advantage of the flexibility and capabilities of StrandVision Digital Signage,” commented Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “Our strong offering in employee communication digital signage now extends to social media and best of all, once set up, administrators can just let it run. They can be confident that the latest employee recognition notices or commuter/community information is constantly available to employees.”

In order to connect to the social media feeds, administrators simply link to the social media’s content stream’s RSS feed. The RSS link is copied and pasted into a digital signage template on the customer’s cloud-based administrator portal on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS). Once set up, the page is added to the digital signage content page rotation and StrandVision servers monitor the information source every 15 to 60 minutes and automatically update and display the information to the designated digital media players across the StrandVision Digital Signage network. The new social media feature is another free digital signage capability that is available immediately to StrandVision electronic signage subscribers by logging in to their CMS portal at StrandVision.com.

StrandVision Digital Signage Software Displays Google and Microsoft Outlook Calendars

Automatically distributes meeting information across the digital signage network…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Oct. 17, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it has added a convenience feature to its digital signage software that enables administrators to post Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar meeting notices automatically to a digital media player over their StrandVision electronic sign networks.

The feature is a configurable free option on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS) on its cloud-based administrator portal. Once set up, the system automatically displays the event name, time and location across the designated StrandVision Digital Signage displays. The Google and Outlook Calendar feature eliminates the need for administrators to reenter meeting information that they want to display over their networks. As the meeting is added or updated in the calendar, it automatically updates the StrandVision Digital Signage server cloud, which updates the digital signage content shown on the screens.

The free digital signage feature is a valuable addition for schools and colleges, hotels, conference centers, nursing homes, clubs and associations – any organization that can use digital signs to promote its meetings or events.

“This is another great business marketing feature that was created based on customer requests,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We’ve added the powerful calendar capability to our signage that, like so many StrandVision options, literally requires no thought or effort once it’s set up. The scheduling operator doesn’t even have to think about it. For instance, a secretary or function manager at a hotel can continue to schedule rooms in Outlook or Google Calendar and the notices are automatically posted on all of the digital signage displays – no effort, no mistakes.”

Set up is easy. Users simply create an RSS feed from their Outlook Calendar to StrandVision through a Google Calendar bridge. They then select the display criteria (current day, week or other parameter), and create a StrandVision Digital Signage page to display the information. The page is added to the digital signage content page rotation. The digital signage calendar is updated hourly as events are added to or removed from the Google or Outlook calendar.

The new calendar feature is free and available immediately to StrandVision electronic signage subscribers by logging in to their CMS portal at StrandVision.com.

Ladysmith Federal Turns to StrandVision Digital Signage for Customer Communications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ladysmith Federal Turns to StrandVision Digital Signage for Customer Communications

LADYSMITH, Wis. – June 21, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage and Ladysmith Federal Savings and Loan Association today announced that a bank digital signage system from Menomonie-based StrandVision has been deployed in its lobby for customer communications.

The 40” digital sign is an important part of Ladysmith Federal’s communications mix. The StrandVision system supplements Ladysmith Federal’s other communications, which include the Web, Facebook and brochures. It has replaced flyers that were routinely posted throughout the branch making the lobby area less cluttered and more attractive.

Digital signage content ranges from savings and loan financial information to community announcements, including Ladies Pink Night, a Ladysmith Federal/business community event and fundraiser for Women with Courage that recently took place at Colonial Nursery.

Customers routinely notice the digital signage announcements prompting them to ask bank tellers about an upcoming event or a product promotion.

Simplicity is Key

Sara Baker, Ladysmith Federal consumer loan officer, is the system administrator. She develops the slides using PowerPoint and sends them to the StrandVision server, which promptly updates the display in the lobby. The process is quick and easy. “I was looking for a product that is simple and easy to use because I don’t have a lot of time to spend on bank marketing,” said Baker. “StrandVision Digital Signage works. I can quickly make my content updates and then move onto my next task for the day.”

“Ladysmith Federal is making good use of their StrandVision Digital Signage,” said Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “They conducted an in-lobby promotion for St. Patrick’s Day where customers counted the shamrocks in the digital signage content to enter a drawing. That was a creative way to engage bank customers while promoting their normal business marketing announcements.”

Mercy Center, a 140-bed facility, is comprised of a skilled nursing unit and a personal care unit. Owned by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Center offers a caring and compassionate environment for its residents.

The Internet-based system, installed by Guyette Communications Industries Corp. of Plymouth, Pa., carries information programming for Mercy Center’s 140 residents that includes a welcome message, as well as menus, activities, date, time and weather, bingo numbers and special events, such as birthdays and holiday greetings. StrandVision Announces Linux Digital Signage Player Optimized for Self-contained Playback – Enhanced Reliability

MENOMONIE, Wis. – April 24, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it is offering a pre-configured Linux digital signage player appliance that ideally supports playback of digital signage content. The graphics-optimized unit is able to operate independently while automatically receiving content updates over the Internet.

The Intel dual-core processor SUSE Linux digital signage player, which includes 1GB of memory and Nvidia GeForce HD Graphics, as well as networking and VGA and HDMI display ports, is pre-configured by StrandVision for optimal performance and stability for years of service.

“The Linux Digital Signage Player is the best option for StrandVision customers,” said Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “We take care of the software installation/configuration and closely integrate the unit allowing our cloud services to manage the appliances so customers don’t have to worry about the initial configuration, ongoing maintenance, operating system versions or security. The small size and optional mounting bracket allows the unit to be hidden behind the display for an uncluttered installation.”

The StrandVision Linux Player includes a subset of the full digital signage playback software application that runs on StrandVision’s servers in the cloud. The Player includes its own database and Apache Web server so everything is self contained. The included Adobe Flash player only has to connect to itself for digital signage content (no network traffic) with StrandVision’s production servers in the cloud acting as backup and sending changes to content as needed.

The Linux digital signage appliance uses patented technology to poll the server cloud every minute to receive updates to digital signage content and send status and usage activity information. If the cloud cannot be reached the Linux appliance continues to play the full content loop and handles random and scheduled content properly. As a result, periodic breaks in Internet service of even up to a few hours are seldom noticeable. If the StrandVision cloud servers detect that a Linux appliance has stopped communicating with the server cloud for an hour, the system automatically sends an email alert to the customer’s technical contacts that are assigned to that particular location.

An additional benefit is that StrandVision’s cloud servers also have a lot more capability to solve issues automatically with the Linux players since the hardware and entire operating system is consistent and customized to operate within StrandVision’s cloud. The configuration also offers enhanced security and stability.

The Linux Player is offered in addition to standard downloadable StrandVision Digital Signage applications for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac personal computers. The StrandVision Digital Signage Linux Player is available directly from StrandVision or through authorized StrandVision resellers and system integrators. It is priced at $799.99. Additional information on StrandVision Digital Signage Linux Players is available at: http://www.strandvision.com/linux_digital_signage_player_pc.html.

Gold and Platinum Level subscribers have free digital signage access to more than 650 copyright-cleared digital signage background music selections…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – April 10, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it is offering free digital signage background music to its Gold and Platinum subscribers. Previously, streamed background music was only available from StrandVision with a $750 one-time setup fee. Current Gold and Platinum StrandVision digital signage subscribers are automatically upgraded to include this new free digital signage software capability.

As a bonus, Gold and Platinum subscribers that also have Basic or Streaming Video licenses under the same contract can extend the background music feature to those StrandVision Digital Signage networks for free.

Broad Selection – Easy Administration

Subscribers can select from more than 650 digital signage background music streams from 40+ categories such as acoustic, classical, contemporary rock, inspirational, and other classifications. The library includes emerging artists who have submitted selections. StrandVision invites emerging artists to participate and get their music heard by audiences around the world. (See http://www.strandvision.com/recording_artist_publicity.html.)

Administrators simply select the music categories that they want to include at their secure StrandVision Content Management System (CMS) portal. The digital signage background music is then streamed to all audio-enabled StrandVision Digital Signage displays. The copyright-cleared music is available 24/7 to accompany business marketing promotional messages or employee communications and can be overridden for advertisements or emergency announcements.

“We’ve found that background music is a welcome enhancement for many locations in hotels, banks, stores, schools, healthcare clinics and other businesses to provide a relaxing environment,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “By including free digital signage background music with the Gold and Platinum packages we’re giving a greater number of StrandVision subscribers the option of adding the feature in the locations where it makes sense.”
