Ladysmith Federal Turns to StrandVision Digital Signage for Customer Communications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ladysmith Federal Turns to StrandVision Digital Signage for Customer Communications

LADYSMITH, Wis. – June 21, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage and Ladysmith Federal Savings and Loan Association today announced that a bank digital signage system from Menomonie-based StrandVision has been deployed in its lobby for customer communications.

The 40” digital sign is an important part of Ladysmith Federal’s communications mix. The StrandVision system supplements Ladysmith Federal’s other communications, which include the Web, Facebook and brochures. It has replaced flyers that were routinely posted throughout the branch making the lobby area less cluttered and more attractive.

Digital signage content ranges from savings and loan financial information to community announcements, including Ladies Pink Night, a Ladysmith Federal/business community event and fundraiser for Women with Courage that recently took place at Colonial Nursery.

Customers routinely notice the digital signage announcements prompting them to ask bank tellers about an upcoming event or a product promotion.

Simplicity is Key

Sara Baker, Ladysmith Federal consumer loan officer, is the system administrator. She develops the slides using PowerPoint and sends them to the StrandVision server, which promptly updates the display in the lobby. The process is quick and easy. “I was looking for a product that is simple and easy to use because I don’t have a lot of time to spend on bank marketing,” said Baker. “StrandVision Digital Signage works. I can quickly make my content updates and then move onto my next task for the day.”

“Ladysmith Federal is making good use of their StrandVision Digital Signage,” said Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “They conducted an in-lobby promotion for St. Patrick’s Day where customers counted the shamrocks in the digital signage content to enter a drawing. That was a creative way to engage bank customers while promoting their normal business marketing announcements.”

Mercy Center Streams StrandVision Digital Signage to Residents’ Rooms

DALLAS, Pa. – May 16, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage and Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Inc. today announced that StrandVision digital signage is being used to stream information to residents’ rooms over the facility’s cable TV system. Mercy Center, a 140-bed facility, is comprised of a skilled nursing unit and a personal care unit. Owned by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Center offers a caring and compassionate environment for its residents.

The Internet-based system, installed by Guyette Communications Industries Corp. of Plymouth, Pa., carries information programming for Mercy Center’s 140 residents that includes a welcome message, as well as menus, activities, date, time and weather, bingo numbers and special events, such as birthdays and holiday greetings. Residents simply select the in-house channel on their television sets. The channel also is used to broadcast daily Mass.

The digital signage content is delivered by StrandVision over the Internet to a pre-configured Linux digital signage player that is integrated into the existing cable system. Weather, date and time information are updated in real time automatically by StrandVision while resident activities and notices are scheduled and posted by Mercy Center staff using StrandVision’s Internet-based Content Management System.

The system is working well. “Feedback from the residents is that they really like it,” commented Rich Heiser, Mercy Center’s tech who oversees the digital signage, information technology and other systems. “We’d like to add a few monitors in our lobbies on both our personal care and skilled nursing sides. We’re also considering adding another channel of programming in some of the lobby areas.”

“Mercy Center is making creative use of the digital signage system –sending scheduled messages directly to viewers in their rooms,” said Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “It reaches the residents where they spend the most time, which makes it as convenient as possible. The staff is able to post notices with minimal effort with the knowledge that it’s easily accessible to everyone who wants the information.”

StrandVision Announces Linux Digital Signage Player Optimized for Self-contained Playback – Enhanced Reliability

MENOMONIE, Wis. – April 24, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it is offering a pre-configured Linux digital signage player appliance that ideally supports playback of digital signage content. The graphics-optimized unit is able to operate independently while automatically receiving content updates over the Internet.

The Intel dual-core processor SUSE Linux digital signage player, which includes 1GB of memory and Nvidia GeForce HD Graphics, as well as networking and VGA and HDMI display ports, is pre-configured by StrandVision for optimal performance and stability for years of service.

“The Linux Digital Signage Player is the best option for StrandVision customers,” said Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “We take care of the software installation/configuration and closely integrate the unit allowing our cloud services to manage the appliances so customers don’t have to worry about the initial configuration, ongoing maintenance, operating system versions or security. The small size and optional mounting bracket allows the unit to be hidden behind the display for an uncluttered installation.”

The StrandVision Linux Player includes a subset of the full digital signage playback software application that runs on StrandVision’s servers in the cloud. The Player includes its own database and Apache Web server so everything is self contained. The included Adobe Flash player only has to connect to itself for digital signage content (no network traffic) with StrandVision’s production servers in the cloud acting as backup and sending changes to content as needed.

The Linux digital signage appliance uses patented technology to poll the server cloud every minute to receive updates to digital signage content and send status and usage activity information. If the cloud cannot be reached the Linux appliance continues to play the full content loop and handles random and scheduled content properly. As a result, periodic breaks in Internet service of even up to a few hours are seldom noticeable. If the StrandVision cloud servers detect that a Linux appliance has stopped communicating with the server cloud for an hour, the system automatically sends an email alert to the customer’s technical contacts that are assigned to that particular location.

An additional benefit is that StrandVision’s cloud servers also have a lot more capability to solve issues automatically with the Linux players since the hardware and entire operating system is consistent and customized to operate within StrandVision’s cloud. The configuration also offers enhanced security and stability.

The Linux Player is offered in addition to standard downloadable StrandVision Digital Signage applications for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac personal computers. The StrandVision Digital Signage Linux Player is available directly from StrandVision or through authorized StrandVision resellers and system integrators. It is priced at $799.99. Additional information on StrandVision Digital Signage Linux Players is available at: http://www.strandvision.com/linux_digital_signage_player_pc.html.

StrandVision Offers Custom Programming to Integrate Corporate Live Data into StrandVision Digital Signage

Virtually any live business marketing, manufacturing or other data can be displayed on StrandVision Digital Signage…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Feb. 1, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced a custom programming service that enables its customers to automatically import virtually any live data feed into its digital signage display. Dynamic business marketing information, manufacturing production or safety performance information, bank interest rates or stock prices, or even conference room listings in hotels can be automatically updated, formatted and displayed through the StrandVision Digital Signage software.

Custom Applications
The process begins with a free digital signage consultation with a StrandVision engineer that explores StrandVision’s free pre-packaged, built-in database and RSS feed integration capabilities. If the solutions that are included with the standard StrandVision Digital Signage service are not appropriate, the engineer will discuss alternative, custom FTP, XML, HTML or other data access programming approaches.

The StrandVision engineer will then work with the customer’s IT staff on an hourly basis to develop the interface that will conform to the customer’s data security protocols. StrandVision will also design a custom template to display the information as part of the customer’s page mix.

“This service makes StrandVision Digital Signage even more flexible and valuable since it eliminates the need to manually update frequently changing live data,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We’ve built a lot of the hooks into our software so we can efficiently and cost-effectively develop these custom data feeds quickly. It’s the fastest way to securely access corporate data for display on one digital signage player or a worldwide deployment of digital signage screens.”

The custom data feed service is available immediately. The initial consultation is free. Development programming is on an hourly basis; typical development projects take only a few hours and often are under one hour.

Administrators email the link to users who can open the signage and optionally bookmark or set the signage as the browser’s Home Page.

For Information Technology-administered networks, the StrandVision link can be distributed and/or automatically loaded onto computers as they are being commissioned or when they are updated through automated software management processes.

“This is a great new way to take advantage of StrandVision Digital Signage and leverage the signage company wide,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “With a few mouse clicks, StrandVision Digital Signage can be extended to every computer in a company. Far-flung employees anywhere in the world can be exposed to corporate information 24/7. We know that there will be several other applications for business, education and other organizations, as well. It’s easy to set up and then runs automatically – and it continues our free digital signage software tradition with no additional cost to our subscribers.”

Other Display Options
The free StrandVision Digital Signage Home Page joins other StrandVision display options that were added to StrandVision’s suite of services in response to customer requests. The company also offers a screen saver option and an applet that enables its customers to show their signage as a frame on their Web pages. “Each of these three add-ons allows StrandVision Digital Signage customers to leverage their current business marketing and communication materials to reach employees, prospects or the public with consistent, efficient information without having to re-create separate communications vehicles,” said Strand.
