Jünger Audio Ensures Full Loudness Compliance For Its LEVEL MAGIC™ Loudness Control Products

In response to the new trends within the broadcast industry to control audio loudness, particularly between programmes and advertising commercials, Jünger Audio has announced that all of its Level Magic-based loudness control solutions are now fully compliant with all current Loudness recommendations.

In the US, broadcast loudness control became a legal requirement in December 2010 when President Barak Obama signed into law the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act. This new US law makes it illegal for commercials to be overly loud compared to the rest of the programming on a given channel. The CALM Act, which refers directly to ATSC Recommended Practice A/85 “Techniques for Establishing and Maintaining Audio Loudness for Digital Television?, compels the FCC to enforce rules that ensure that the average integrated loudness of the station audio matches the dialnorm metadata parameter in their transmitted Dolby® Digital (AC-3) stream.

An Easy Upgrade Path Makes DK-Technologies PT0710M Waveform Monitor The Ideal Choice For PERFORM

A chance encounter at last year’s IBC exhibition has resulted in Danish metering manufacturer DK-Technologies supplying two PT0710M audio and video waveform monitors to PERFORM, a world leader at broadcasting and commercialising sport in digital media.

PERFORM’s Engineering Project Manager Mike Edwards was at the show investigating equipment for two new Avid edit suites the company was building for its OMNISPORT news service. At the entrance of Hall 8 he came across the DK-Technologies stand and stopped to demo the company’s products.

“It really is worth going to IBC,? he says. “Had it not be been for the position of the DK stand, and the excellent demo we received from Andy Page, we would not have known anything about the company’s waveform monitor products and would have only looked at Tektronix and Hamlet.?

Oxygen DCT Launches New Colour Calibration Service For The Broadcast and Post Production Industry

Oxygen DCT has launched a new service to help broadcasters and post production facilities re-align and maintain LCD picture monitors with the correct broadcast colourimetry.

Picture monitors ‘drift’ from factory settings and need re-calibration because significant differences between the brightness and colour temperature of a group of monitors in a stack can be both irritating and tiring on the eyes. In the case of Grade One monitors, which are used for high-grade ‘reference’ assessment of picture quality, post production and transmission, poor alignment can lead to problems with quality control if broadcast engineers can’t tell if the monitor is at fault or the incoming signal.

Oxygen DCT’s new Colour Calibration Service aims to rectify the problem by re-aligning monitors and ensuring they comply with ITU Recommendation ITU-R709, which defines the sampling systems, matrix values and filter characteristics for both Y, B-Y, R-Y and RGB high definition component digital more
