Nexidia Announces Nexidia Dialogue Search for Faster, More Affordable Asset Discovery

ATLANTA — Feb. 28, 2013 — Nexidia, developer of dialogue and audio analysis products and technologies for optimizing audio and video media, today announced Nexidia Dialogue Search, a tool that searches for any spoken word or phrase across workgroups or massive media libraries in seconds. With Dialogue Search, media organizations can make better use of their media libraries by easily, precisely, and quickly finding unique assets without being overwhelmed by irrelevant results. Dialogue Search enables content creators to be more efficient and creative, content owners to monetize their asset libraries, and content consumers to find media they want or otherwise might not find at all.

“Most digital data is unstructured and therefore can be difficult to find when you need it, and transcription, caption-based searches, and speech-to-text searches all have significant drawbacks because of cost, accuracy, and latency,” said Drew Lanham, senior vice president and general manager of Nexidia’s Media and Entertainment division. “Dialogue Search, on the other hand, provides the richest, most relevant results at a fraction of the cost and time it takes for the other methods. It’s akin to Google for audio, where users enter keywords and phrases that locate the specific media and allow them to take action.”

Using Nexidia’s patented technology, Dialogue Search dramatically reduces logging and transcription costs and uncovers valuable assets that traditional metadata could never expose.

Dialogue Search integrates directly with media asset management (MAM) systems and editing applications, and no training is required. Users simply type any combination of words or phrases into the Dialogue Search interface, and it will quickly find any media clip in the system where those words or phrases are spoken. Users can preview results in a video player without having to scroll through numerous clips to find a specific sound bite.

When implemented with an asset management or other file system, Dialogue Search automatically accesses the media files and metadata stored in those systems. It also enables the export of search results as time-coded markers to MAM systems and video-editing applications. Dialogue Search is integrated with file systems, Square Box CatDV, Apple(R) Final Cut Pro(R) 7, and Adobe(R) Premiere(R) Pro 5.5 and newer. Additional integrations are added each quarter and upon request.

The versatile Dialogue Search application can be applied broadly to any market that creates, owns, or distributes content, including film and entertainment, sports, news, education, corporate, government, financial, house of worship, and non-profit.

Dialogue Search is available now. More information about Dialogue Search and other Nexidia products is available at www.nexidia.tv.

Dejero at the 2013 NAB Show

At the 2013 NAB Show, Dejero will demonstrate its latest innovations in bonded cellular technology that utilize mobile wireless networks to transmit high-quality video for electronic newsgathering (ENG). The Dejero LIVE+ Platform offers powerful capabilities for improving broadcasters’ ability to deliver primary and supplemental live video feeds from the field, at a reduced cost and with greater efficiency and ease of use.

Dejero Products on Display at the 2013 NAB Show

The Dejero LIVE+ Platform includes the LIVE+ 20/20 Transmitter, a portable and rugged bonded cellular transmitter for a wide variety of ENG applications; the LIVE+ NewsBook software bringing cellular transmission capabilities to laptop or personal computers; and the LIVE+ Mobile App for iPhone(R) and iPad(R). At the 2013 NAB Show, Dejero will highlight these core products together with the following new solutions.

NEW Dejero LIVE+ VSET
At the 2013 NAB Show, Dejero will introduce the LIVE+ VSET, a 1U vehicle-mount version of the company’s Dejero LIVE+ 20/20 Transmitter. Designed for use with satellite and microwave trucks, the adaptive bit-rate encoder on Dejero’s LIVE+ VSET reduces the latency and improves the reliability of satellite video feeds. For instance, during rain fade and other atmospheric conditions that cause Ka-band satellite bandwidth to decrease, the Dejero LIVE+ VSET will automatically pick up the drop in bandwidth by transmitting over the cellular networks. Even in ideal conditions when the bulk of data is being sent over satellite, the LIVE+ VSET takes advantage of the lower latency of a cellular connection to check for errors and send missing packets — thus leading to an overall decrease in latency on the entire Ka-band system.

NEW LIVE+ Mobile App for Android(TM)
Dejero is introducing an Android(TM) version of its LIVE+ Mobile App, which enables both traditional and online broadcasters to transmit high-quality HD or SD live video from select Android phones and tablets. Announced last summer for iOS devices, the LIVE+ Mobile App is an industry first capable of bonding multiple wireless signals to deliver high-quality video from the street to the television or Web. Using the same award-winning, patent-pending bonded cellular technology as the Dejero LIVE+ 20/20 Transmitter, the LIVE+ Mobile App aggregates both the WiFi(TM) and cellular connections of the iPhone(R), iPad(R), and now Android device. The result is a higher-quality live video transmission with lower latency than a single connection would provide. In addition, the LIVE+ Mobile App now features support for interruptible foldback (IFB), enabling one-way, real-time communications to be sent from the studio to an earpiece worn by the on-air talent.

Major Announcement at the 2013 NAB Show
In addition to these solutions, Dejero will make a significant product announcement regarding its latest-generation bonded cellular product family.

Dejero Quote:
“Recent advances in bonded cellular technology have made it an indispensable tool in the newsgathering toolbox, alongside traditional approaches such as microwave and satellite. In many cases, cell connections are making live shots possible for stations that had no ENG capabilities before. At this year’s NAB Show, we’re looking forward to showing attendees how our solutions are making this capability more reliable and easier to use than ever before.” — Brian Cram, CEO of Dejero

Company Overview

Dejero, based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, expands newsgathering capabilities and redefines live broadcasting through its portable LIVE+ Platform of cellular newsgathering products. Dejero LIVE+ products enable both traditional and online broadcasters to transmit high-quality HD or SD live video from a variety of mobile devices, including professional-grade rugged transmitters, laptops, tablets, and smart phones. Dejero LIVE+ products can be set up anywhere in seconds to broadcast live to television viewers, stream to the Web, transmit recorded video for later use, share video content with other organizations, or send files remotely. Innovative engineering from wireless experts combined with input from experienced broadcasters have produced the Dejero LIVE+ Platform.

Networked Video, Audio, Data, and Communications Plus the New RiCam POV System

WUPPERTAL, Germany — Feb. 26, 2013 — Riedel Communications, provider of pioneering real-time video, audio, data, and communications networks, announced that it supplied several wireless camera solutions and audio/video signal distribution services for the 2013 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, Feb. 4-17 in Schladming, Austria. Working with Munich-based sono Studiotechnik GmbH, which oversaw set up of the International Broadcast Center for host broadcaster ORF, Riedel installed a comprehensive fiber network comprising 42 MediorNet mainframes and 60 RockNet digital audio interfaces. In addition to the signal distribution responsibilities, Riedel also introduced their new lightweight and compact wireless RiCam POV camera system that was integrated into the racers’ goggle straps to capture spectacular live images from their perspective.

“Our goal is always to provide our customers with a competitive edge,” said Thomas Riedel, founder and CEO of Riedel Communications. “Spectacular pictures are the key to achieving prime time exposure, and we’re pleased that both our innovative wireless camera and our robust fiber network are helping broadcasters to make alpine skiing an even more compelling viewing experience.”

During the FIS alpine event in Schladming, the Riedel fiber backbone accommodated 92 cameras ,160 HD video signals, 200 audio signals, and Ethernet and intercom in a single flexible infrastructure that reduced both the time and cost of installation. For venue communications, Riedel deployed three Artist digital matrix mainframes and a TETRA digitally trunked radio network, which were used for the TV production, the opening ceremony proceedings, and by the Audi shuttle service. (German mobile production company TVN and the Dutch event specialist Faber Audiovisuals also relied on Riedel RockNet systems during the opening ceremony.) Riedel also provided the video downlink for the helicopter camera and the wireless camera links for the two CAMCAT(R) aerial cable systems used at the event. The company provided full support, with 20 Riedel engineers working on site during one of the largest alpine TV broadcasts of all time.

Developed in collaboration with FIS, ORF, the Austrian Ski Federation, race directors, and various goggle and helmet manufacturers, the RiCam wireless camera supplied by Riedel made the TV coverage even more remarkable. Meeting critical size, weight, and safety specifications and featuring an aerodynamic design integrated into the goggles’ strap, the patented camera worn by racers allowed broadcasters to incorporate dramatic point-of-view shots into their productions.

NEW Nexidia QC
Nexidia will introduce Nexidia QC, a new automated closed caption and video description application that helps ensure compliance, caption alignment, and language identification for broadcast and IP distribution. QC verifies that video description content was actually aired, which automates verification and logging for legal compliance. It also verifies that the captions aired match the program broadcast and determines the level of caption coverage for the program. QC automates manual processes to reduce operating expenses, automatically identifies errors and fixes issues to avoid FCC fines, and enables a higher-quality experience for viewers across all platforms.

NEW Nexidia CC Director
Making its debut at the 2013 NAB Show, Nexidia CC Director is an application that automatically repurposes on-air closed captioning for broadcast and IP distribution in order to satisfy broadcast requirements for the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act. Live and file-based caption information is reused to recaption clips and programs for delivery to the Web, tablets, and other Internet-connected devices.

Nexidia CC Director is designed to enable dynamic, low-latency caption retrieval from a caption catalog storing years’ worth of captions. The captions are available within minutes of broadcast and can be retrieved without metadata or even the broadcast date. Users simply pass a clip of audio or video through the application, and CC Director will return the time-corrected caption file.

CC Director reduces the cost of re-syncing or re-creating captions for live-captioned programming that is being edited for rebroadcast or non-linear distribution. It also verifies caption information, improves caption timing compared to the original captioning, and reduces turnaround time for publishing clips and full programs.

Front Porch Digital Announces Broad Support for Archive eXchange Format

Open, Storage-Agnostic Technology in Place at Archiving and Production Operations Around the World

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — Feb. 19, 2013 — Front Porch Digital, the global leader in cloud-based content storage management (CSM) solutions, today announced that its Archive eXchange Format (AXF) open-archiving technology is seeing broad adoption among archivists and media organizations around the world. Installations at esteemed organizations such as Laboratoire Éclair, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (NIBG), Danish Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute, and others, along with support from Spectra Logic and integration with Sony’s Optical Disc Archive technology, position AXF to replace outmoded legacy formats such as TAR with a truly open and storage-agnostic approach, ensuring long-term accessibility to the world’s most valuable content.

“Our aim in developing AXF was to support interoperability among disparate digital-content storage systems and ensure the content’s long-term availability no matter how technology evolves,” said Brian Campanotti, chief technology officer of Front Porch Digital. “The fact that these organizations and others have embraced AXF puts it well on the way to achieving critical mass and becoming the industry standard for long-term preservation and storage of media assets. In fact, the AXF standardization effort is nearing completion within SMPTE and we expect ratification this year.”

AXF is integrated into DIVArchive(R) V7.0, the latest generation of Front Porch Digital’s acclaimed CSM system. To ensure wider accessibility, Front Porch Digital has also released stand-alone tools such as AXF Explorer that allow access to AXF packages and media without the need for DIVArchive. France’s pioneering movie and television production house Laboratoire Éclair linked its DIVArchive V7.0 installation with its full production and postproduction environment to streamline workflow, while its customers have access to long-term storage services managed with the system. In addition, the Danish Film Institute and Swedish Film Institute have built their digitization, archiving, and preservation workflows around DIVArchive V7.0 to protect their national film heritage.

Beyond installations, in September 2012 Spectra Logic became the first vendor verified to support AXF across its entire range of tape libraries and tape drives. Also, Front Porch Digital and Sony(R) have collaborated to ensure AXF is compatible with Sony’s Optical Disc Archive expandable robotic library. Customers who use DIVArchive V7.0 with Spectra Logic products or the Sony system will get the benefit of long-term storage and preservation through AXF.

AXF is built from the ground up to be fully storage-agnostic, meaning that an AXF object is the same whether it is stored on spinning disk, flash memory, data tape media, or in Front Porch Digital’s LYNX(SM) cloud service. In this way, users avoid the complexity associated with file systems, storage technologies, or operating systems.

More information about the AXF format and Front Porch Digital products is available at fpdigital.com and OpenAXF.org.
