Korean Broadcast Specialist Sion Media Solves Signal Routing Backup Challenges at New SBS Facility With Bittree Patchbays

GLENDALE, Calif. — Dec. 11, 2012 — Bittree, a manufacturer of high-quality audio and video patching systems, today announced that its South Korean partner, Sion Media, has been contracted by Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) to supply Bittree patchbays for its new facility, the SBS Prism Tower. SBS, one of South Korea’s largest broadcasters, purchased more than 400 Bittree video and audio patchbays for two of its channels, SBS Plus and SBS Golf. The SBS Prism Tower will support a total of six new HD channels.

“Systems designers overwhelmingly choose Bittree patching as a backup routing method for both studio and outside broadcasting use in Korea,” said Glenn Garrard, CEO of Bittree. “Sion’s customer relationships and marketing strategies are the reason for our success there. In fact, Sion has done an outstanding job of representing Bittree’s brand to the Korean broadcasting industry for more than 10 years. The SBS project is the latest example of Sion’s ability to devise solutions for prominent Korean broadcasters using the Bittree product line.”

For its facility upgrade, SBS Plus is currently installing 313 Bittree E-series HD-SDI video patch panels and 80 additional TT (Bantam) audio patchbays. Custom-designed for simplifying the installation process, E-series video patchbays feature front-mounted jacks that simplify the rewiring task for install technicians.

“Integrators and systems designers alike specify Bittree because they trust the high quality of Bittree patchbays as a reliable backup system for signal routing,” said Johnny Lim, sales manager at Sion Media. “It’s our pleasure to include such a versatile, high-demand product family in our portfolio.”

Revolabs Selects VITEC Distribution GmbH and POLYFON Distribution AG as New Distributors of Revolabs FLX(TM)

SUDBURY, Mass. — Dec. 10, 2012 — Revolabs Inc. today announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with VITEC Distribution GmbH, parent company to POLYFON Distribution AG. Based in Germany, VITEC is a specialist distributor of audio and video conferencing, presentation, and telecommunications solutions. Under the agreement, VITEC and Polyfon will distribute the Revolabs FLX(TM) wireless conference phone throughout Germany and Switzerland, respectively.

“Over the last year, we have focused on expanding our distribution network across the globe,” said Marc Cremer, COO at Revolabs. “As a result, we have seen tremendous demand for all our wireless audio products internationally, and particularly for our FLX wireless conference phone. Partnering with VITEC and POLYFON is a key move in continuing our expansion and meeting the demand for FLX in Germany and Switzerland.”

“The FLX wireless conference phone will make an excellent addition to our lineup of conferencing solutions,” said Wilhelm Mettner of VITEC and POLYFON. “For all of our customers — from small businesses to large enterprises — there is a great demand for wireless solutions that provide exceptional audio quality. The FLX meets this need, while also providing easy set up, compatibility with all major video conferencing systems, and much more. We are excited to offer these unique advantages to our customers.”

The FLX combines wireless operation with high-quality wideband audio, 128-bit encryption, and integrated Bluetooth(R). Unlike the single-component design of other solutions, the systems consist of several distinct components, giving users unprecedented freedom with respect to placement and accessibility of the speaker, microphones, and dial pad. Because its dialer operates like a telephone for handset calls, the FLX eliminates the need for a separate desk and conference phone. FLX is available with a variety of Revolabs microphones, including lapel, omnidirectional, and directional tabletop microphones.

Available in analog or VoIP interfaces, the Revolabs FLX is the first and only wireless conference phone designed for VoIP networks. Ideal for conference rooms, executive offices, and SoHo environments, the FLX integrates directly with most IP telephone switches that follow the SIP standard, enabling new features — such as voicemail alerts and “do not disturb” — previously only available through digital switch environments. The ideal unified communication technology, the FLX can also serve as the audio interface for virtually any major brand of video-conferencing equipment.

Production Giant Pinewood Studios Group Chooses Calrec Audio for Television Sound Control

HEBDEN BRIDGE, U.K. — Dec. 10, 2012 — Calrec, a leading supplier of audio consoles for on-air and live production, announced that international production powerhouse Pinewood Studios Group has installed an Artemis Beam console in its new 5.1-capable sound-control gallery to mix audio for live and recorded television shows, the first of which was a children’s show for BBC. The sound-control gallery is part of a new television studio facility in Buckinghamshire, England, which includes all new control galleries and equipment. Pinewood produces high-profile TV shows such as “Got To Dance” and “Would I Lie To You” plus world-famous films including the recently released James Bond film, “Skyfall.”

“Our technical team evaluated several consoles in the process of selecting a sound desk for our new TV studios, and preferred the Calrec Artemis,” said Pinewood Broadcast Director Paul Darbyshire. “We were looking for a desk that would provide more channels both in and out, along with greater flexibility and ease of programming. With the Artemis we feel we have achieved that and more. It’s easy to understand why Calrec is so highly regarded in the broadcast industry.”

Pinewood’s 64-fader Artemis Beam console gives sound engineers more available channels and the ability to link those channels to the studio floors via fiber. The console also boasts Calrec’s Bluefin2 high-density signal-processing technology, which gives Pinewood a more robust console in a smaller footprint while consuming less power.

Darbyshire said the Artemis Beam is more intuitive to use and requires less time to create and recall show memories, which streamlines the production process. The team also appreciates the full redundancy offered by Calrec consoles that has earned them a reputation of being very reliable. This is especially relevant when producing live light entertainment and music shows.

“Not only do many sound supervisors working on shows at Pinewood prefer Calrec consoles, but our production clients also see benefits,” Darbyshire said.

More information about the Artemis Beam console and other Calrec products is available at calrec.com.

NUGEN Audio’s ISL True-Peak Limiter Now Available in Avid(R) AAX Format

LEEDS, U.K. — Dec. 6, 2012 — NUGEN Audio, creator of intuitive tools for audio professionals, today announced that its ISL True-Peak limiter plug-in now supports Avid(R) AAX format for editors that use Avid’s popular editing software.

“Avid created the AAX format with future expansion in mind, so it is only going to become more relevant to our customers,” said Jon Schorah, NUGEN Audio creative director. “Our customers who rely on Avid editing tools can be certain that ISL will continue to be compatible with Avid products as they measure and correct for inter-sample levels in their audio.”

Avid developed the 64-bit-ready AAX format to enable better integration among different Avid workflows. The format ensures that audio professionals can continue editing as they always have, even as systems and technologies evolve.

Sound engineers using the ISL AAX plug-in have complete control over True Peak levels in audio signals, from mono to 5.1. ISL ensures compliance with loudness standards and protects against distortion that can be introduced when codecs such as MP3 and AAC are applied downstream. Designed for the transparent limiting of relatively dynamic high-quality audio, ISL can also be used to hard-limit and reduce dynamic range where required.

With this ISL update, NUGEN also introduces iLok licensing, an alternative to the existing licensing system for those who find iLok more convenient.

The ISL AAX plug-in is available now. AAX updates will be coming to the rest of the NUGEN Audio range in the coming months.

More information about ISL and other NUGEN Audio products is available at www.nugenaudio.com.
