CN-3600S E SmartSequencer(TM): http://bit.ly/uwu8mZ
BlueBOLT(R) Remote Power and Energy Management Platform: http://bit.ly/uHSBhY

NEW for ISE 2012

At ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) 2012 in Amsterdam, Panamax/Furman will be showcasing its full line of commercial and residential products, including the first power management solution for the EMEA market to be compatible with the company’s BlueBOLT(R) hosted remote power and energy management platform: the CN-3600S E SmartSequencer(TM).

The CN-3600S E (220V-240V, 16A capacity) combines AC power distribution, protection, filtration, and sequential system power on/off in a 1-RU rack-mount unit. Featuring Furman’s SmartSequencing(TM) technology, the CN-3600S E allows large and complex A/V systems to be safely powered on and off with a simple press of a button or turn of a key, even by non-technical personnel. SmartSequencing’s bidirectional communications between installed units enables a primary unit to control and sequence multiple secondary units, ensuring multizone electronic systems are powered on and off safely and dependably from a single control point across an entire installation. The CN-3600S E features eight rear-panel IEC C-13 outlets arranged in four adjustable delay-sequence banks, in addition to one front-panel IEC C-13 outlet. The unit ships with a detachable IEC-C19 female-to-Schuko-male power cord, with other cord options available.

Multiple units can be connected via current loop at runs of more than 1,000 feet with full backward compatibility with Furman’s legacy sequencers. The CN-3600S E provides clean, safe power with Furman’s SMP, EVS, and LiFT protection and filtration technologies.

The CN-3600S E is equipped with an RS-232 port and command set for integration with control systems. An optional RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptor (sold separately) allows the unit to be controlled, programmed, and monitored from a smartphone, tablet, PC, or any Web-enabled device via Telnet, direct HTTP connection, or the BlueBOLT platform. Connecting the CN-3600S E to BlueBOLT enables integrators to reboot problem components remotely to address a myriad of common system issues immediately ranging from locked up components to bad communications handshakes. Powerful features for installers include email alerts when power anomalies occur; scheduled commands for power-up, power-down, or power-cycling of outlets; monitoring of incoming voltage in near-real time or over history; and auto-reboot functionality to resolve networking equipment lock-ups automatically. In addition, BlueBOLT provides a future-proof solution as clients become more concerned with energy management. BlueBOLT offers a variety of features designed to monitor energy use closely, eliminate standby power, and enable automated load-shedding.

The CN-3600S E will begin shipping in Q1 2012.

Company Quote:
“Last year we captivated ISE 2011 with a demonstration of BlueBOLT(R), and this year we’re ecstatic to introduce our first power management solution for countries using 220V to 240V to offer connectivity to the platform. The CN-3600S E SmartSequencer(TM) is already an amazing product by combining power distribution, protection, filtration, and sequential system power on/off in one compact unit. Connecting it to BlueBOLT, however, takes its capabilities to an entirely new level; allowing integrators to improve customer service and reduce service calls, while providing their clients with a powerful tool for monitoring and managing their energy consumption. Many of our European customers have been eager to begin incorporating BlueBOLT into their installations, so be sure stop by our booth to see the CN-3600S E in action.”
– Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Panamax/Furman

Panamax/Furman’s M4315-PRO BlueBOLT(R)-Enabled Power Conditioner Makes the Grade at Saint Louis University

PETALUMA, Calif. — Nov. 29, 2011 — In today’s college classrooms, A/V technology has become so important to teaching that any equipment downtime can cause a major disruption. To address this issue, Saint Louis University (SLU) is utilizing several Panamax M4315-PRO BlueBOLT(R)-enabled power conditioners as key components in its recently retrofitted classrooms. For the University, the units provide power protection for new equipment, in addition to remote access for fast troubleshooting of components and monitoring of energy consumption to lower operational costs.

SLU is a Catholic, Jesuit university ranked among the top 100 institutions in the United States. Founded in 1818, it is also the oldest university west of the Mississippi and the second oldest Jesuit university in the nation. In 2010, the University made the decision to retrofit 17 of its older classrooms with the latest A/V technology, including new projectors, control systems, audio mixers, video switchers, and even a 5×5 video wall as the centerpiece of one room on its medical campus.

“For SLU, system reliability was a key factor for the upgraded classrooms,” noted Paul Murdick, vice president of AV for integration firm TSI Global. “Not only did new equipment require protection from power anomalies, but the University needed to be able to respond quickly to minimize any potential downtime, all while keeping operational costs at a minimum.”

To provide all of this functionality in one unit, SLU turned to Panamax’s M4315-PRO power conditioner, which combines BlueBOLT power and energy management, catastrophic surge/spike protection, and “pro” level linear noise filtration for enhanced A/V performance. Each of the 17 revamped classrooms features one M4315-PRO, enabling SLU to manage all components on an individual level, while also monitoring how much power is being drawn across the system.

“While Panamax/Furman is renowned for their power protection, what really set the M4315-PRO apart for us is its BlueBOLT capability. With BlueBOLT, we receive notifications in the event of a power issue at one of these high-profile teaching spaces, and have the ability to respond immediately by power cycling equipment remotely from another office,” said Nathan Burge, senior multimedia support analyst at SLU. “In addition, its energy management features allow us to log and monitor overall system energy consumption, helping us to reduce operational costs.”

BlueBOLT allows the M4315-PRO’s individual outlets or outlet banks to be controlled from any Web browser or Web-enabled mobile device, enabling full hard-reboots to immediately address a myriad of common system issues ranging from locked-up components to bad communication handshakes. In addition, auto-reboot outlets can be designed to automatically power-cycle when an Internet connection is lost. The BlueBOLT platform calculates the energy used by connected devices and reports it, historically and in real time, in kilowatt-hours as well as dollars. Energy-saving commands such as scheduled conservation in non-use hours can be set up, in addition to energy budgets with alerts.

“The M4315-PRO was an easy choice for this project with its advanced functionality and Panamax’s reputation for reliability — all at a low cost,” added Burge. “The classrooms have recently been completed and the units have performed flawlessly, with staff reporting that the BlueBOLT interface is extremely simple to use. It’s been such a success that we intend to include an M4315-PRO in each new classroom we build.”

Oklahoma PBS Station OETA Outfits its New Tulsa Facility With Utah Scientific Routing Equipment

SALT LAKE CITY — Nov. 30, 2011 — Utah Scientific, the worldwide leader in routing and master control switchers, today announced that the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) has installed Utah Scientific routing equipment to anchor the infrastructure for its new Tulsa studio and office facility. OETA is the regional PBS program provider serving 1.8 million viewers a week across Oklahoma and in surrounding states.

The newly built plant replaces the analog/digital-hybrid Tulsa facility, and represents an upgrade to HD to match the rest of the PBS network. Construction and systems integration for the new facility came together fairly quickly and on time. Planning was a group effort and included systems integration by Digital Resources Inc. out of Dallas.

OETA installed two UTAH-400 routing switchers (one 3G HD video and one audio) to replace its UTAH-300 analog router. The routing switchers are controlled by Utah Scientific’s SC-4 control system. The installation also includes UTAH-100 Series 3 HD (3G), SD, analog video, digital audio, and analog audio distribution amplifiers (DAs); and two TSG-490 sync generators with automatic changeover and GPS synchronization.

“We chose the UTAH-400 routers because our previous Utah router served us so well for so many years,” said Roger Newton, OETA Tulsa chief engineer. “The tight integration between the video and audio routers is also important.”

Newton also cited Utah Scientific’s sales and technical support as reasons for choosing the equipment.

Utah Scientific’s distribution amplifiers enabled OETA to separate master production control from the technical operations center, which occupied the same room in the old building. Now the DAs feed the video signal from the studio cameras to the video production switcher, solving the noise problems that often resulted from the previous setup.

The UTAH-400 is specifically designed to address the growing requirement for large switching systems with its ability to expand seamlessly from 8×8 to 1152×1152 and beyond. The UTAH-400 is based on a revolutionary new matrix architecture that greatly reduces the complexity of large systems, resulting in considerable improvements in rack space and power requirements as well as yielding significant cost reductions.

“OETA fills the need for educational and public television for all of Oklahoma and beyond, and the new Tulsa facility was long overdue for them,” said Tom Harmon, president and CEO of Utah Scientific. “Now they can more easily and effectively reach their viewers with a rich HD experience, and Utah Scientific will be there to help them do it.”

More information on Utah Scientific routing and master control switching products can be found at www.utahscientific.com.

DNF Controls Announces New Production Control Application for Live Television

Application is First in a Series of Infrastructure Control Solutions Built on DNF’s Flex Control Network(R)

SYLMAR, Calif. — Nov. 30, 2011 — DNF Controls today announced the Production Control Application for broadcasters built on the Flex Control Network(R), DNF’s modular platform of professional IP-based machine controllers that solve all manner of operational control problems, setting a new standard of excellence for operational efficiency and profitability. The Production Control System is a specific combination of Flex Control equipment that provides fast, simple, and reliable control over video and graphic playout devices for live and live-to-tape programming, including national and local news, sports, lifestyle and talk shows, and faith-based productions.

The Production Control Application is a complete, semi-automated solution that works with existing control room equipment to simplify production control, expand production capabilities, enhance production look and branding, and minimize production errors. Broadcasters can control up to 24 channels of VTRs, DDRs, video servers, and graphic devices for on-air and on-set playout from highly reliable, easy-to-use, tactile control panels and their production switcher. Because the Production Control Application can automatically control multiple machines synchronously with the touch of a button, the technical director is free to concentrate on the production rather than the technology.

Additionally, the Production Control Application streamlines pre-production setup and last-minute on-air changes for late-breaking and unscripted events.

“Despite the complex nature of today’s broadcast operations, our customers still want a more simplified and intuitive workflow,” said Dan Fogel, CTO of DNF Controls. “This system does just that. Not only does it improve workflow and reliability by automating and timing complex interactions, the simple setup and configuration means reduced engineering involvement and cost. Groups have local control while creating centralized and shared equipment centers, and an error management tool can improve on-air performance and accuracy.”

The Production Control Application consists of dual DC20 device controllers that control up to four devices each, along with two types of control panels — a CP20 event-based, cue-marking, VTR-style control panel, and a ST420 shotbox for instantaneous access to trigger complex events. By adding device controllers, the application expands to control up to 24 channels. The result is an integrated, standalone tactile control system, or a sophisticated, cost-effective backup and manual playout control system always at hand.

The control panels talk over Ethernet to the device controllers, which contain the correct control protocols. By separating the control panels and device controllers, broadcasters can create centralized systems in an equipment or control room, or distributed systems that allows users to control playout devices with frame accuracy via Ethernet from anywhere in the world. This distributed system architecture means that failure of an individual piece will not cripple the entire system.

The Production Control System is based on the Flex Control Network, DNF’s flagship technology that encompasses DNF’s more than 20 years of experience providing “must work,” mission-critical control systems for broadcast and production operations. The Flex Control platform consists of device controllers with 25 drivers and interface solutions that combine with a full range of control panels to create applications for solving even the most complex control problems while using existing IP infrastructure as the backbone. With its tactile control surfaces, browser-based interfaces for ease of use and deployment, and simple push-button operation using “event to action” logic for sophisticated, automated control, Flex Control delivers unparalleled centralized and distributed control over machinery and workflows.
