Nexidia Products at the 2013 NAB Show:

Nexidia Dialogue Search
At the 2013 NAB Show, Nexidia will showcase Nexidia Dialogue Search (DS), a tool that searches for any spoken word or phrase across workgroups or massive media libraries in seconds. With DS, media organizations can utilize their media libraries more easily by finding unique assets that fit their needs simply, precisely, and quickly without being overwhelmed by irrelevant results. DS dramatically reduces logging and transcription costs and uncovers valuable assets that traditional metadata could never find. DS integrates directly with media asset management systems and editing applications, and no training is required.

NEW Nexidia QC
Nexidia will introduce Nexidia QC, a new automated closed caption and video description application that helps ensure compliance, caption alignment, and language identification for broadcast and IP distribution. QC verifies that video description content was actually aired, which automates verification and logging for legal compliance. It also verifies that the captions aired match the program broadcast and determines the level of caption coverage for the program. QC automates manual processes to reduce operating expenses, automatically identifies errors and fixes issues to avoid FCC fines, and enables a higher-quality experience for viewers across all platforms.

NEW Nexidia CC Director
Making its debut at the 2013 NAB Show, Nexidia CC Director is an application that automatically repurposes on-air closed captioning for broadcast and IP distribution in order to satisfy broadcast requirements for the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act. Live and file-based caption information is reused to recaption clips and programs for delivery to the Web, tablets, and other Internet-connected devices.

Nexidia CC Director is designed to enable dynamic, low-latency caption retrieval from a caption catalog storing years’ worth of captions. The captions are available within minutes of broadcast and can be retrieved without metadata or even the broadcast date. Users simply pass a clip of audio or video through the application, and CC Director will return the time-corrected caption file.

CC Director reduces the cost of re-syncing or re-creating captions for live-captioned programming that is being edited for rebroadcast or non-linear distribution. It also verifies caption information, improves caption timing compared to the original captioning, and reduces turnaround time for publishing clips and full programs.

Company Quote:

“This year at the 2013 NAB Show, broadcasters and other content creators and distributors will see how our products will help them dramatically accelerate their ability to discover and utilize their media. Our patented Dialogue Search tool can search thousands of hours of media in under a second, and supports dozens of languages and dialects. That product alone can help make our customers faster, more creative, and more profitable. Add to that other products such as our new CC Director and QC applications, and their media operation becomes faster and more efficient by reducing their dependencies on manual processes.”

Front Porch Digital Announces Broad Support for Archive eXchange Format

Open, Storage-Agnostic Technology in Place at Archiving and Production Operations Around the World

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — Feb. 19, 2013 — Front Porch Digital, the global leader in cloud-based content storage management (CSM) solutions, today announced that its Archive eXchange Format (AXF) open-archiving technology is seeing broad adoption among archivists and media organizations around the world. Installations at esteemed organizations such as Laboratoire Éclair, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (NIBG), Danish Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute, and others, along with support from Spectra Logic and integration with Sony’s Optical Disc Archive technology, position AXF to replace outmoded legacy formats such as TAR with a truly open and storage-agnostic approach, ensuring long-term accessibility to the world’s most valuable content.

“Our aim in developing AXF was to support interoperability among disparate digital-content storage systems and ensure the content’s long-term availability no matter how technology evolves,” said Brian Campanotti, chief technology officer of Front Porch Digital. “The fact that these organizations and others have embraced AXF puts it well on the way to achieving critical mass and becoming the industry standard for long-term preservation and storage of media assets. In fact, the AXF standardization effort is nearing completion within SMPTE and we expect ratification this year.”

AXF is integrated into DIVArchive(R) V7.0, the latest generation of Front Porch Digital’s acclaimed CSM system. To ensure wider accessibility, Front Porch Digital has also released stand-alone tools such as AXF Explorer that allow access to AXF packages and media without the need for DIVArchive. France’s pioneering movie and television production house Laboratoire Éclair linked its DIVArchive V7.0 installation with its full production and postproduction environment to streamline workflow, while its customers have access to long-term storage services managed with the system. In addition, the Danish Film Institute and Swedish Film Institute have built their digitization, archiving, and preservation workflows around DIVArchive V7.0 to protect their national film heritage.

Beyond installations, in September 2012 Spectra Logic became the first vendor verified to support AXF across its entire range of tape libraries and tape drives. Also, Front Porch Digital and Sony(R) have collaborated to ensure AXF is compatible with Sony’s Optical Disc Archive expandable robotic library. Customers who use DIVArchive V7.0 with Spectra Logic products or the Sony system will get the benefit of long-term storage and preservation through AXF.

AXF is built from the ground up to be fully storage-agnostic, meaning that an AXF object is the same whether it is stored on spinning disk, flash memory, data tape media, or in Front Porch Digital’s LYNX(SM) cloud service. In this way, users avoid the complexity associated with file systems, storage technologies, or operating systems.

More information about the AXF format and Front Porch Digital products is available at fpdigital.com and OpenAXF.org.

Echo(TM) Express Thunderbolt(TM) Expansion Family for PCI Express(R) Cards
Sonnet’s award-winning Echo(TM) Express family of Thunderbolt(TM)-to-PCI Express (PCIe) expansion chassis enables the use of a wide variety of high-performance PCIe cards — originally designed for use in desktop computers — with any computer equipped with a Thunderbolt port. On display at BVE 2013 will be several Echo Express chassis-based workflow solutions featuring pro cards from Avid(R), Blackmagic Design, Red Digital Cinema, RME, Universal Audio, and Sonnet. The Echo Express Pro, which supports two standard-width, full-length x16 PCIe 2.0 cards, or one double-width, full-length card, now provides an auxiliary power connector and compatibility with Avid Pro Tools(R)|HDX PCIe cards. The newest member of the line is the Echo Express II, which supports two half-length (up to 7.25 inches long), full-height, single-width PCIe 2.0 x16 cards. Also featured is the Echo Express SE, a value-priced model that is light and compact, supporting a single half-length (up to 6.6 inches long), full-height, single-width PCIe 2.0 x8 card. All Echo Express systems enable the use of compatible full-size professional video capture, audio interface, 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SAS and SATA HBA and RAID controller cards with iMac(R), Mac(R) mini, MacBook Air(R), or MacBook Pro(R) computers. Temperature-controlled fans deliver strategic airflow to cool the enclosure that fits easily into any 19-inch or deeper rack. Two Thunderbolt(TM) ports — one to connect the PCIe slots to the Mac mini and a second for daisy-chaining other Thunderbolt devices — are included. A USB 3.0 port and a power button on the front panel allow operation of the system without requiring access to the back of the computer. Panel-mount HDMI(R), Gigabit Ethernet, and two USB 3.0 cables are included to connect the ports on the back of the Mac mini to ports on the back of the xMac mini Server for convenient external connection. One Thunderbolt cable is also included.
