Panamax/Furman Updates MyBlueBOLT.com Certification, Training, and Partnership Resources

PETALUMA, Calif. — Dec. 15, 2011 — Panamax/Furman today announced that MyBlueBOLT.com has received an update to enhance the user’s experience with an improved certification process and training resources. Users of the BlueBOLT(R) energy management and control platform will appreciate such new additions as the “Maximizing BlueBOLT” video orientation, which helps new or existing users get the most out of their BlueBOLT experience and details value-added features such as auto-reboot, “connection lost” notifications, and an assisted setup of budget alerts in the energy management section.

An update for future BlueBOLT certified dealers, or current certified dealers looking to bring new personnel up to speed, is the completely new certification training video and simplified certification portal. The new online training video includes marked test questions, as well as an extended look at the BlueBOLT online interface. Dealers, installers, and contractors can obtain their BlueBOLT certification through this enhanced online training course via almost any Internet-connected tablet, computer, or mobile phone.

Automation and control-centric dealers or programmers will appreciate MyBlueBOLT.com’s new dedicated control partners’ page. This page acts as a reference for anyone checking the status of an automation platform driver or control module for their respective BlueBOLT or control-friendly power management hardware. These drivers, designed by third parties or specific Panamax/Furman control partners, provide an alternate method of power-related control through local IP or RS-232, depending on hardware. In most cases, programmers can leave BlueBOLT control and communication intact, allowing for simultaneous local automation, as well as cloud-based BlueBOLT control. This flexibility makes for a highly configurable automation environment and a better experience for the customer.

Makito(TM) Encoder
The Makito(TM) encoder is the first and only full-featured, high-performance compact encoder to combine the efficiencies of H.264 video compression and full HD video quality in a very small form factor — all at a very competitive price point. And now, the Makito supports constant bit rate (CBR) encoding to assure transport and system-wide compatibilities and, optionally, real-time metadata capabilities. The Makito provides H.264 encoding at up to 1080p60 with the lowest available end-to-end latencies.

KulaByte(TM) Encoder
Haivision will display its newly acquired KulaByte(TM) software encoder, which allows Kulabyte users to deliver live content to multiple sites easily and reliably. Kulabyte features best-in-class adaptive player technology that enables dynamic, real-time updates for dependable online video delivery to desktop or mobile devices. Completely software-based, the KulaByte encoder provides the most efficient use of uplink bandwidth due to extremely high quality-to-bit rate performance and tight bit rate control. With its simple user interface and operation, anyone from trained employees to volunteer teams can reliably deliver the desired results time after time.

Image Caption: Haivision KulaByte(TM)

KulaByte(TM) Live Cloud Transcoder
Haivision will also show off its KulaByte(TM) live cloud transcoding solution, capable of transforming live video source streams into all of the many formats and data rates required to distribute live video via the Internet. The KulaByte live cloud transcoder delivers live transcoded source video streams to every screen, regardless of device, player, screen size, or bandwidth. The transcoder provides high-quality, reliable, consistent output streams to the full range of playback devices, even when streaming from challenging low-bandwidth environments. Preparing the multiple renditions needed for all of these devices and bit rates previously required additional investment in on-site encoding hardware, bandwidth, and infrastructure. KulaByte eliminates this wasteful per-event overspending and complexity in favor of a flexible, comprehensive cloud-based live streaming platform.

Furnace(TM) 6.0 Including MultiStream(TM) Recording and Advanced Publishing
The highly acclaimed Furnace(TM) IP video system includes advanced recording and publishing features to enable clients to capture and distribute synchronized multistream video content. The VF Recorder module now supports recording and review of up to four simultaneous video streams associated with a combined video asset. During the recording, HotMarks(TM) (real-time metadata) can be applied to all streams either through the user interface or as triggered by third-party control systems. HotMarks enable viewers to search for and jump to specific tagged events quickly. The VF Publisher module establishes automated ingest and publishing of content. After a record process, users can instantly assign content to specific groups, make the content available within the Web portal, email links to specific users or groups, or deposit the content into third-party systems for further editing.

Viper MultiStream(TM) IP Video Streamer/Recorder
Haivision will also feature the Viper, a compact integrated appliance for capturing, streaming, reviewing, distributing, and publishing multistream H.264 content. The Viper can be used as a stand-alone device to bring powerful recording, streaming, and VoD capabilities directly from event centers by capturing and distributing multiple HD video sources or HD video and computer display sources simultaneously. The Viper supports record/review/publish and live-streaming applications. The Viper can also be integrated as a remote contributor to Haivision’s Furnace(TM) IP video system, enabling a distributed recording architecture without relying on central network video recording capacity to accommodate every user.

Torpedo(TM) DVB-to-IP Gateways
Torpedo(TM) allows enterprises to get digital broadcast transmission onto their IP networks without the need for re-encoding the video. Digital satellite (DVB-S/S2) and digital terrestrial (DVB-T/T2) broadcasts contain audio/video programming using industry-standard compression (MPEG-2 or H.264) contained within MPEG-2 transport streams. The Torpedo gateway tunes to particular channels, as delivered over RF by the DVB antennas or satellite dishes, extracts and filters the MPEG transport stream packets, and delivers the program content over IP networks, thereby eliminating the need to re-encode. A single Torpedo can support up to 15 content channels, each rebroadcast as unicast or multicast IP video data streams. Torpedo can be used as a stand-alone solution, or it can be integrated as part of Haivision’s Furnace(TM) IP video system.

Mississippi DOT Uses Wowza to Simplify and Improve Live, Multi-Screen Video Streaming From 400 Traffic Cameras

Agency Reaches More People More Cost-Effectively With Video Distribution From Wowza Media Server Software

EVERGREEN, Colo. — Dec. 8, 2011 — Wowza(R) Media Systems, the “Any Screen Done Right(TM)” media server software company, today announced that the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) installed Wowza Media Server(R) software to simplify and improve video streaming from its network of nearly 400 traffic cameras throughout the state. The installation was part of an upgrade to MDOT’s intelligent transportation system (ITS).

Live video flows constantly from MDOT cameras to its traffic portal, http://www.msTraffic.com, so that anyone with an Internet connection can keep an eye on traffic. It also streams internally to the traffic management center, where MDOT workers monitor traffic conditions at their workstations. The upgrade to Wowza Media Server software enables MDOT to stream live content from all of its cameras simultaneously to multiple devices, eliminating the need for specialized, client-specific encoders and servers — which means it can reach more people than with its previous streaming method.

“With our previous workflow, the traffic management center received analog video feeds from roadside cameras to be encoded/decoded and then displayed internally on video screens. From there, video had to be re-encoded to go out to the Internet,” stated Timothy Bean, ITS systems specialist for MDOT. “Wowza Media Server software has made it possible to forego all that extra encoding, decoding, and re-encoding equipment, saving us money and space, as well as cutting way down on energy consumption. We removed about 10 racks worth of equipment and replaced it with a single server that’s running Wowza Media Server software.”

Because MDOT can distribute video to any platform quickly and easily, traffic information is available to many more people, no matter what player they use. Giving the public better access to real-time traffic information allows them to make more informed decisions not only day-to-day, but also during evacuations or other emergencies. In turn, an informed citizenry means improved safety, reduced congestion, and decreased likelihood of secondary incidents for the state.

“Wowza Media Server software’s capability to ingest streams directly from IP cameras and stream it out simultaneously over multiple protocols is ideally suited for traffic monitoring and security applications,” said Alex Dobrushin, CMO of Wowza Media Systems. “MDOT’s deployment exemplifies the value our software offers to transportation departments all over the U.S. and in other countries. It provides them with a future-proof platform for delivery of higher-quality video, more cost-effectively, while reaching a broader base of constituents.”

The multiple award-winning Wowza Media Server software is a single extensible foundation for “Any Screen Done Right” media delivery. It makes streaming to computers, smartphones, tablets, and TV screens simple and cost-effective. Improved economies of scale and reduced encoding, storage, and management expense, enable enterprises — large and small — to stream live and on-demand video with ease while saving money, improving efficiency, and streamlining workflow.

About Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has a network of nearly 400 cameras throughout the state that provide a constant view of traffic conditions. Live video flows from the cameras to the traffic management center, and from there to various internal points where MDOT workers monitor traffic conditions in a central location and at their workstations. MDOT also sends video out over the Internet so that anyone — from first responders and emergency operations centers to the average driver — can keep an eye on traffic through MDOT’s traffic portal, http://www.msTraffic.com.

BenQ Introduces SmartEco(TM) Projector Lamp Technology

Breakthrough Technology Reduces Power Consumption by up to 50 Percent; Provides Enhanced Image Quality and Extends Lamp Life

IRVINE, Calif. — Dec. 5, 2011 — BenQ America Corp., the first DLP(R) brand to incorporate Philips’ ImageCare(TM) technology into its projector lamp system, today announced that it has taken a further leap with the development of its proprietary SmartEco(TM) lamp technology to maximize energy savings. BenQ’s SmartEco technology combines energy efficiency for longer lamp life with optimized image contrast, greatly enhancing imaging performance while reducing projector operating and maintenance costs.

SmartEco technology saves energy and increases lamp life by dynamically adjusting the lamp power to different brightness settings based on the projected content. SmartEco lets the projector compensate for this process with an internal software solution that maintains the ideal color spectrum and also provides an improved contrast ratio. This revolutionary technology produces no more light than absolutely necessary and always adapts to the ideal picture setting.

When the projected content contains dark elements, SmartEco dims the lamp accordingly for those scenes without any loss of visible brightness for the viewer. This provides many benefits to users, including prolonging lamp life by up to 70 percent and reducing energy consumption by up to 50 percent.

“SmartEco is a significant breakthrough in projector technology; a true game changer that doesn’t come around very often,” said Lars Yoder, President at BenQ America Corp. “Particularly for users in the education and corporate market segments, SmartEco significantly lowers costs and enhances picture quality, so that going green does not come at the expense of performance.”

BenQ also provides online tools to help users calculate their yearly energy savings by projector model. By visiting the company’s “SmartEco Savings Calculator” page http://www.benq.com/microsite/projector/smarteco/ and entering information on their current consumption levels, users can find out how much energy and money they can save with SmartEco technology.

Available now, BenQ SmartEco projector models for business and education applications include the MS513, MX514, MW516, MW712, MX813ST, MX850UST, and MW851UST.

Information on the full line of BenQ products is available at http://www.BenQ.com.

“At ISE this year, we will showcase the Revolabs FLX(TM) wireless conference phone, which has recently been introduced to the European market,” said JP Carney, chief operating officer at Revolabs. “Visitors to our booth will be among the first to experience its exceptional audio performance and flexibility for small and mid-sized conference rooms, executive and home offices, and more. Stay tuned for announcements of additional FLX versions, which we expect to introduce at ISE. In addition, we will highlight Revolabs HD(TM) wireless microphone systems.”

Revolabs at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2012:

Revolabs FLX(TM) Wireless Conference Phone
Showing for the first time at ISE, the Revolabs FLX(TM) wireless conference phone is designed specifically for small and mid-sized conference rooms, executive offices, and SoHo environments. Based on the Revolabs’ wireless audio technology that for years has delivered superior sound quality for audio and video conferencing to large conference rooms and boardrooms, the FLX brings exceptional performance to smaller settings at an affordable price. Combining wireless operation, high-quality wide-band audio, 128-bit encryption, integrated Bluetooth(R), support for analog and IP, and a competitive price point, the FLX redefines the conference speakerphone.

Available with a variety of compatible Revolabs microphones, the FLX includes a lapel microphone worn by one person; an omni-directional tabletop microphone that captures the sound of six to 10 participants; and a directional tabletop microphone that enables audio capture from two to three people. Because the FLX dialer operates like a telephone for handset calls and enables the setup of conference calls, there is no need for a separate desk and conference phone.

The Revolabs FLX can also serve as the audio interface with virtually any major brand of video conferencing equipment, providing the same high audio performance within video calls. Callers without Internet access can have their phone calls bridged into the video session anytime.

Revolabs expects to debut additional versions of the FLX product at ISE. Be sure to visit Revolabs’ stand for the latest in wireless conference phone solutions!

Revolabs HD(TM) Wireless Microphone Systems
The Revolabs HD(TM) line of wireless microphone systems includes the Single/Dual Channel; the rack-mounted, dual-channel Venue; and the four- and eight-channel Executive HD. The HD systems utilize Revolabs’ “Designed for Speech” technology, which provides wideband frequency to improve the intelligibility and presence of speech. Support for bandwidths of 50-14,000 Hz allows these systems to pick up the entire human voice spectrum.

Ideal for broadcasting applications, the Single/Dual Channel supports one or two HD wireless microphones, while the Executive HD supports up to eight microphones for executive boardrooms and large conference rooms. The Venue provides support for up to two wireless microphones, and offers a rack-mounted design for video conferencing or voice reinforcement applications.

The HD systems can be mixed and matched with a variety of wireless microphones, including a lapel microphone worn by one person; an omni-directional tabletop microphone that captures the sound of six to 10 participants; and a directional tabletop microphone that enables audio capture from two to three people. In addition, the systems can be used with the XLR adaptor for handheld microphones and the Countryman(R) microphone adaptor.

All Revolabs wireless microphones are rechargeable, providing up to eight hours of talk time on a full charge. In addition, RF Armor(TM) technology enables the microphones to operate even when in direct contact with other wireless electronic devices known to cause unwanted audio interference, such as GSM mobile phones and smartphones. Fail-safe security is integrated using 128-bit encryption, preventing people from listening in on conversations.

CN-3600S E SmartSequencer(TM): http://bit.ly/uwu8mZ
BlueBOLT(R) Remote Power and Energy Management Platform: http://bit.ly/uHSBhY

NEW for ISE 2012

At ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) 2012 in Amsterdam, Panamax/Furman will be showcasing its full line of commercial and residential products, including the first power management solution for the EMEA market to be compatible with the company’s BlueBOLT(R) hosted remote power and energy management platform: the CN-3600S E SmartSequencer(TM).

The CN-3600S E (220V-240V, 16A capacity) combines AC power distribution, protection, filtration, and sequential system power on/off in a 1-RU rack-mount unit. Featuring Furman’s SmartSequencing(TM) technology, the CN-3600S E allows large and complex A/V systems to be safely powered on and off with a simple press of a button or turn of a key, even by non-technical personnel. SmartSequencing’s bidirectional communications between installed units enables a primary unit to control and sequence multiple secondary units, ensuring multizone electronic systems are powered on and off safely and dependably from a single control point across an entire installation. The CN-3600S E features eight rear-panel IEC C-13 outlets arranged in four adjustable delay-sequence banks, in addition to one front-panel IEC C-13 outlet. The unit ships with a detachable IEC-C19 female-to-Schuko-male power cord, with other cord options available.

Multiple units can be connected via current loop at runs of more than 1,000 feet with full backward compatibility with Furman’s legacy sequencers. The CN-3600S E provides clean, safe power with Furman’s SMP, EVS, and LiFT protection and filtration technologies.

The CN-3600S E is equipped with an RS-232 port and command set for integration with control systems. An optional RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptor (sold separately) allows the unit to be controlled, programmed, and monitored from a smartphone, tablet, PC, or any Web-enabled device via Telnet, direct HTTP connection, or the BlueBOLT platform. Connecting the CN-3600S E to BlueBOLT enables integrators to reboot problem components remotely to address a myriad of common system issues immediately ranging from locked up components to bad communications handshakes. Powerful features for installers include email alerts when power anomalies occur; scheduled commands for power-up, power-down, or power-cycling of outlets; monitoring of incoming voltage in near-real time or over history; and auto-reboot functionality to resolve networking equipment lock-ups automatically. In addition, BlueBOLT provides a future-proof solution as clients become more concerned with energy management. BlueBOLT offers a variety of features designed to monitor energy use closely, eliminate standby power, and enable automated load-shedding.

The CN-3600S E will begin shipping in Q1 2012.

Company Quote:
“Last year we captivated ISE 2011 with a demonstration of BlueBOLT(R), and this year we’re ecstatic to introduce our first power management solution for countries using 220V to 240V to offer connectivity to the platform. The CN-3600S E SmartSequencer(TM) is already an amazing product by combining power distribution, protection, filtration, and sequential system power on/off in one compact unit. Connecting it to BlueBOLT, however, takes its capabilities to an entirely new level; allowing integrators to improve customer service and reduce service calls, while providing their clients with a powerful tool for monitoring and managing their energy consumption. Many of our European customers have been eager to begin incorporating BlueBOLT into their installations, so be sure stop by our booth to see the CN-3600S E in action.”
– Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Panamax/Furman
