Women in CE Announces Shelley Zalis as Closing Keynote Speaker for ‘The Power of Connectivity’ Career Enhancement Forum

CEO of Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange to Deliver Address on the Power of Emotion

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — April 3, 2014 — Women in Consumer Electronics (CE), an industry organization that promotes the advancement of women in the CE industry, today announced the selection of Shelley Zalis as closing keynote speaker for the third annual Career Enhancement Forum, titled “The Power of Connectivity.” Her powerful message — “The Power of Emotion&Bring it to the Boardroom!” — will address how emotion and especially passion drive change, transformation, and commitment. Held in conjunction with CE Week, the Career Enhancement Forum will take place on June 24 at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.

Zalis has been a leader of change in the market research industry throughout her career. As a self-described black sheep, she envisioned and pioneered the use of online research well before any other company recognized its full potential. Under her guidance as founder and CEO, OTX (Online Testing Exchange) became the 18th largest research company in the world and was acquired in January by Ipsos. She now leads Ipsos’ global innovation center, the Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange, which is pioneering next-generation research solutions, as well as heads The Girl’s Lounge, a social platform for women in the marketing, advertising, research, and CE industries. In 2008, Zalis was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year(R) award, and received the ARF Great Minds in Innovation award in 2010. In May, she will be honored by the UJA-Federation of New York’s Marketing Communications Division with the Global Marketing Leadership Visionary Award.

“As a strong proponent of entrepreneurial leadership and the advancement of women in key executive positions in the boardroom, I’m excited to headline the Women in CE forum as closing keynote,” said Zalis. “Men and women are equally important, and it’s a simple fact that we just deal with issues differently. I’m looking forward to sharing my views in hopes of motivating attendees to unleash the power of emotion and fuel their careers with a passionate drive to succeed.”

“We’re thrilled with the caliber and variety of keynote speakers, experts, and panelists at the 2014 Women in CE Career Enhancement Forum,” said Carol Campbell, founder of Women in CE. “We’re looking forward to Shelley’s keynote, which will touch on different aspects of personal and professional development, providing attendees with a robust set of tips and best practices they can apply to empower their own career advancement.”

At “The Power of Connectivity,” attendees will also be treated to an opening keynote by Charlotte Beers, CEO, chairman, Undersecretary of State, teacher, and author of “I’d Rather Be in Charge: A Legendary Business Leader’s Roadmap for Achieving Pride, Power, and Joy at Work.” Currently serving on the Board of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Beers has received a number of accolades throughout her remarkable career, including the Distinguished Service Medal — the State Department’s highest honor — and induction into the Advertising Hall of Fame.

Returning to the Career Enhancement Forum to lead a featured workshop is Sam Horn, ideapreneur and author of “POP! Create the Perfect Pitch, Title and Tagline for Anything.” In her presentation “Intrigue: Create Interest, Earn Respect, Connect With Anyone,” Horn will provide audience members with new and inspiring ways to scale their influence and win buy-in from busy, distracted decision makers for priority projects. In addition, award-winning news and technology journalist Andrea Smith will present the featured workshop “Social Media and the Power of Connectivity.” In this workshop, Smith will discuss social media best practices geared toward professional empowerment and promoting business success.

Featured panels at the event will be led by Samantha Smith, executive vice president of Etail Eye, North America, and Deena Ghazarian, vice president of sales and finance for Monster Products Inc. Smith will lead a spirited discussion, presenting success stories of women who have truly mastered the power of connectivity. Ghazarian, a 2014 Women in CE Legacy Award Honoree, will lead “The Power of Lean in Circles,” where she will introduce the “Lean in Circle” as made popular in the book of the same title by Sheryl Sandberg.

The forum kicks off with a networking breakfast, followed by a full day of sessions, and a closing reception that wraps up the day’s events. Held at the Rubin Museum of Art at 150 W. 17th St. in New York, the forum is open to women working in all segments of the CE industry, including manufacturers, major retailers, specialty retailers, suppliers, integrators, distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, buying groups, and consultants.

Registration for the Women in CE Career Enhancement Forum is now open. For members, the early bird rate of $199 expires on May 15, and a standard rate of $249 will apply while seating lasts. For non-members, the early bird rate of $249 expires on May 15, and a standard rate of $299 will apply while seating lasts. Purdue University Remodels CoRec Into Modern Fitness and Wellness Facility with Biamp Systems

After two years of renovation and additions, the France A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center (CoRec) opens its doors to eager students, faculty, staff, and community members

BEAVERTON, Oregon — April 2, 2014 — Biamp Systems, a leading provider of innovative, networked media systems, today announced the installation of an expansive Audia(R) system in the France A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center (CoRec) at Purdue University.

Purdue University utilized Biamp’s AudiaFLEX to create one large DSP audio network across the entire facility. Originally built in 1957 as the first U.S. university building created solely for students’ recreational sports, CoRec grew in size from 148,700 to 355,000 square feet in its latest remodel.

In total, 18 AudiaFLEX units have been installed, with many of the units pulling double duty — operating as room audio processors as well as performing paging and background music functions. Inter Technologies Corp. created 40 separate zones of music and paging capabilities across the facility. Most zones feature automatic ambient noise compensation devices for room volume control. The entire integrated system is controlled via a single Crestron touchpanel at the reception desk. The programming allows for muting of individual zones as well as overall volume control.

“We’re extremely happy with all the functionality we now have in our audio system,” stated Bob Hannemann, CoRec’s Technical Operations Coordinator. “The zoned paging, background music, and conferencing capabilities gives us all of the things we need to serve every type of patron.”

“We spec a lot of Biamp in our projects,” shared Dale Miller, Project Manager with ITC. “Biamp’s Audia gave Purdue everything they wanted and more.”

Digital Alert Systems Expands Its Low-Cost EAS/CAP Systems With Two New Models for Low Power Stations

Designed for Low-Power Stations, New DASLC+ and DASLC+R Serve as Powerful All-in-One Solutions With Rich Functionality and Expanded Input Capacity

LYNDONVILLE, N.Y. — April 1, 2014 — Digital Alert Systems, a division of Monroe Electronics and provider of next-generation Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) and Emergency Alert Systems (EAS), today announced two new products that double the input capacity of the company’s DASDEC(TM)-II LC low-cost CAP/EAS systems giving low power stations more targeted solutions. The new DASLC+ and DASLC+R accept more monitoring source inputs while providing core EAS/CAP decoding functionality, audio switching, and radios in an all-in-one package. A new expansion slot on each model gives users room for future upgrades.

“Digital Alert Systems is always striving to develop and deliver specific DASDEC models that provide customers with the best possible value for their money while meeting all their requirements,” said Bill Robertson, vice president of business development at Digital Alert Systems. “The DASLC+ models complete our comprehensive product line, supplying the higher input capacity that many low-power stations require, without additional features — and costs — they don’t need. Starting from the DASLC at only $1,995 for an integrated EAS/CAP decoder, and now with the LC ‘Plus’ models, we are well-positioned to meet the requirements of each and every customer, from the newest low-power stations to the largest broadcast facilities.”

Like their two-input predecessors, both the DASLC+ and DASLC+R offer broadcasters critical functionality in a low-cost design, while the DASLC+R features three integrated high-performance AM/FM/NOAA radio receivers. Both models meet all FCC Part 11 rules and conform to FEMA CAP v1.2 and IPAWS 1.0 standards, giving most low-power stations everything they should need for FCC EAS compliance.

The DASLC+ and DASLC+R are easy to set up and easy to use. Because all required reports can be emailed to specific station personnel, who only need to check if the unit emails a problem or doesn’t send a weekly or monthly report, it’s almost a set-and-forget EAS/CAP solution. While a new expansion slot assures scalability, an optional software license key allows each unit to be upgraded for full encoder/decoder operation. Users also can choose to enable the video output in order to view a full-screen video display of the EAS/CAP message.

LynTec RPC Panel Selected for Power Control in Revamped Stony Brook Arena

Web-Enabled Circuit Control Panel Provides Reliable Electrical Protection in Large-Scale A/V Overhaul

LENEXA, Kan. — April 2, 2014 — LynTec, a leading manufacturer of customized electrical power control solutions for professional audio, video, and lighting systems, today announced that the company’s RPC (Remote Power Controller) panel with motorized breaker technology has been applied to the multimillion dollar renovation of Stony Brook University’s Stony Brook Arena. Using simple Web-enabled circuit control and reliable electrical protection, the cutting-edge athletics facility is able to power, protect, and easily manage the arena’s main audio system, scoreboards, and videoboards — creating one of the most advanced athletic and entertainment venues in the country.

Home to the Stony Brook Seawolves’ men’s and women’s basketball teams, the arena’s $21.1 million renovation is set to transform the venue into a 4,000-seat first-class facility, which will include luxury boxes, a VIP lounge area at the loge level, and new premium courtside seating for a variety of concerts, sporting competitions, and other large-scale events. To provide a performance-driven combination of advanced electrical protection and flexible third-party integration throughout the facility, a team of on-site integrators and designers turned to LynTec. The company’s RPC 342 panel, equipped with multiple motorized breakers, will bring automated power protection to the arena’s 23-amplifier audio system of 45,000 watts, two scoreboards, and two large videoboards. Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams, Inc. designed the facility’s entire A/V, broadcast, cabling, and distributed TV systems, and Advance Sound Company provided installation services.

“First installed in the seventies, the arena’s original system featured direct power feeds without any type of motorization, resulting in current in-rushes every time the system was turned on,” said Thomas DePace, Chief Operations Officer, Advanced Sound Company. “With the installation of a new world-class stadium entertainment system, Stony Brook needed an easy-to-use, fail-safe solution that would allow the activation of the arena’s entire range of amplifiers without causing any damage to the equipment. Considering LynTec’s track record for creating simple, flexible, and dependable electrical protection, the RPC was the obvious choice for this high-profile installation — allowing us to safeguard the entire system while enabling seamless Crestron control.”

LynTec’s RPC panel combines the latest motorized breaker technology with Web-enabled circuit control to provide a complete platform for managing installed audio, video, and lighting systems. Featuring real-time monitoring down to the circuit level and the capacity to use multiple control protocols simultaneously, the panel allows smart-device access to load-specified switch-grade motorized circuit breakers — providing built-in auto-off brownout protection using controlled circuit breaker shut-down and restart, optional sequential circuit level on/off capabilities, and the ability to interface with third-party control systems via contact closure, TCP/IP, DMX, or RS-232.

“As arenas, auditoriums, theaters, and other entertainment venues continue to implement impressive A/V/L systems, there is an increasing requirement to provide fail-safe protection and control in order to both safeguard and extend the life of components,” said Mark Bishop, president of LynTec. “Our RPC panel with motorized circuit breakers allows the Stony Brook Arena to protect their investment through automated on/off capabilities, while offering a wide range of flexible options such as remote control via Ethernet connection. LynTec is proud to be part of such a remarkable installation, and we look forward to similar collaborations in the future.”

The completely revamped Stony Brook Arena will be in full operation in Fall 2014. More information on the RPC panel and LynTec’s full line of products is available at www.LynTec.com.
