RTI Now Shipping All New CX7 Countertop User Interface

Designed for Mounting on a Countertop or Under a Cabinet, Versatile Solution Delivers Reliable Control for Commercial and Residential Applications

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Jan. 28, 2014 — Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) has announced that it is now shipping the exciting new CX7, a wired user interface for reliable “always on” control over A/V, environmental, and security systems in any setting, from the kitchen to the boardroom. Designed for hard-wired installations on a countertop or under a cabinet, the sleek CX7 is loaded with high-end features for complete, customized control, including an adjustable tilt 7-inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen LCD, analog audio and video inputs, stereo speakers, wired and wireless Ethernet, proximity and ambient light sensors, and more.

Primarily designed to be used with RTI control systems for powerful two-way control of electronics, it is the flexible installation options the CX7 has to offer that really sets it apart. For example, analog audio and video inputs — composite, S-video, and component — allow users to view and listen to sources such as satellite TV on its dazzling 7-inch, 800×480 WVGA LCD and integrated stereo speakers. The unit also features wired 10/100 Base-T and wireless Ethernet, which provide two-way control and feedback, access to Web pages, video from network security cameras, and convenient programming. In addition, a built-in camera and microphone will offer intercom capabilities in the future. For the ultimate in convenience, proximity and light sensors automatically bring the unit to life when it’s approached by an end user.

For ease of installation, the CX7′s display can be lifted straight up, laid nearly flat, tilted at any level in-between, or the unit can even be inverted and mounted under a cabinet. The CX7 features multiple power source options, such as the included power supply and Power over Ethernet (PoE). Built-in high-output IR provides direct control of devices without the need for a separate control processor.

“With its numerous options for mounting, power, communications, and AV inputs, the CX7 is ideal for highly reliable ‘always on’ control in commercial environments such as boardrooms and lecture halls,” said Pete Baker, vice president of sales and marketing for RTI. “At the same time, the controller is right at home under a kitchen cabinet or in home theaters.”

Integrated AVB Control Panel for Artist Digital Matrix Intercom
During BVE 2014, Riedel Communications will feature its new CPX-AVB expansion card for Riedel Artist 1100 series control panels. The CPX-AVB provides the next generation of AVB interfacing for Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom control panels.

The CPX-AVB is a dedicated card that fits in the expansion slot of the Artist 1100 series OLED control panels. The card turns the control panel into an AVB-enabled device, in turn making the panel’s ports available within the entire AVB network. The expansion card converts two Artist ports to the AVB network and vice versa.

To enable further signal integration, Riedel offers a comprehensive suite of AVB-enabled interfaces for its Artist intercom platform. In addition to the existing Connect AVB x8 panel interface, the Connect AVB C8 offers eight AES connections on BNC. The device supports both bidirectional AES for intercom panels and unidirectional transport for broadcast AES.

The Connect AVB A8 provides eight analog inputs and outputs on RJ45 connectors. Riedel’s AVB Manager offers full AVB network management and features system-wide control of all AVB components.

T3Media Selects Front Porch Digital’s SAMMA Migration System to Digitize Visual History of U.S. Armed Forces

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — Jan. 27, 2014 — Front Porch Digital, the global leader in content storage management (CSM) solutions, today announced that T3Media, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based video management and licensing services, has chosen Front Porch Digital’s SAMMA(R) migration system to digitize the videotape collection of the Department of Defense (DOD) dating back to World War II. The collection is managed within the DOD by the Defense Imagery Management Operations Center (DIMOC).

The DOD collection contains a wide range of videotape formats including Betacam, VHS, and U-matic. T3Media will incorporate a seven-stream SAMMArobot into its workflow to enable automated, high-throughput migration of the Betacam material.

“Front Porch Digital’s SAMMA line was a natural choice for such a large and important digitization project as this one,” said Mark Lemmons, chief technology officer at T3Media. “The SAMMA migration system enables us to scale the encoding of this unique content and rapidly onboard it into our world-class platform.”

Besides being able to produce multiple digital file recordings from seven videotape recorders simultaneously, SAMMArobot can monitor and improve the video signal at the same time — all while generating associated technical metadata for every stage of the migration. It can also interface with T3Media’s existing platform, retrieve the information generated during the migration process, and guarantee the creation of open video formats and genuinely interoperable technical metadata.

“T3Media is the acknowledged industry leader in enterprise-scale archive management, and we appreciate their confidence in our capabilities,” said Mike Knaisch, Front Porch Digital president and CEO. “Our SAMMA products will provide a critical piece of T3Media’s workflow for this project, and we’re thrilled to be such a big part of preserving the visual history of our nation’s armed forces.”

Furman Celebrates 40th Anniversary at 2014 NAMM Show

Innovation and Expertise Keep Company Ahead of the Curve

PETALUMA, Calif. — Jan. 23, 2014 — At the 2014 NAMM Show, Core Brands(R) marks the 40th anniversary of its Furman brand of power management solutions. Founded in 1974, Furman continues to lead two major markets — professional A/V signal processors, AC power conditioning and distribution — and is now delivering energy management solutions featuring the BlueBOLT(R) cloud-based platform.

“Our long history of engineering power products has provided us with a rich knowledge base and legacy to continue our tradition of innovating and building better products year in, year out,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands. “It’s challenging to maintain market leadership for as long as we have. We owe our success to our focus on listening to and understanding our customers’ needs, and then applying our expertise to develop products that meet their requirements even in the most demanding applications.”

Originally founded primarily as a manufacturer of line signal processing products, Furman captured the industry spotlight a few years later with its state-of-the-art power products — and the company has dominated the power management market ever since. Furman was acquired by Panamax, LLC in 2007 and is now part of Core Brands, LLC.

“The world has changed immensely in 40 years, and our products have never been more relevant than they are today — especially as companies and individuals become more connected and reliant on electronic systems to help them work, play, communicate and live,” said Benz. “As electronics become more mission-critical than ever, keeping systems healthy is not just about power. We’re committed to delivering a solid foundation of power, energy and network management that creates a reliable infrastructure for our customers. We are grateful to our loyal customers for trusting Furman over the past 40 years, and we’re looking forward to what the future has in store.”

Furthering Furman’s legacy and in conjunction with the 40th anniversary, the brand will debut three new power conditioning products at this year’s NAMM Show — the M-8S and PS-8R E III Power Conditioner and Sequencer models and the P-8 PRO C Classic Series Power Conditioner.

BenQ Brings Classroom IQ Solutions to FETC 2014 and TCEA 2014 Educational Events

New Products and Education Initiatives Bring Multidevice Connectivity, Increased Interactivity, and Power-Saving Technologies to Schools

COSTA MESA, Calif. — Jan. 23, 2014 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of Classroom IQ solutions, today announced its participation at two upcoming educational events in support of its expanding commitment to the education sector. The company will join education leaders and technology experts at FETC in Orlando, Fla., from Jan. 28-31, as well as at TCEA in Austin, Texas, from Feb. 3-7. BenQ Classroom IQ Solutions on display will include new Colorific(TM) projectors, interactive flat panel (IFP) displays, and collaborative classroom applications.

With an increased commitment to the education market, BenQ has recently unveiled a number of initiatives including the BenQ Education Solutions in Technology (BEST) program. Created to provide educational partners across North America with a wide range of dedicated sales and support initiatives, the program furthers BenQ’s focus on the success of today’s students, teachers, and learning institutions.

Furthering its market support, BenQ named former educator Patti Postel as National Education Sales Manager. As a former teacher, Patti understands the needs of educators and commented: “BenQ is very keen on bringing the most advanced classroom technologies to teachers, students, and schools. Our Classroom IQ Solutions are specifically designed to satisfy the need for more interactive and immersive experiences by integrating the world of connected devices with solutions that are innovative, affordable, and easy to use. Schools can now create connected classrooms using visual display tools that will both protect their investment and enrich the overall learning experience.”

To complement the company’s wireless projectors and IFP displays, BenQ’s Classroom IQ solutions provide Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) collaboration, SmartEco(TM) lamp-saving technologies, as well as easy-to-use file sharing apps to transform teaching plans into more intuitive, immersive, and collaborative experiences. Furthermore, BenQ’s Colorific projector technology ensures the delivery of accurate, crisp, and long-lasting color — allowing students to experience up to 1 billion stunning colors on classroom projection screens. For schools, the technology eliminates light burn or color degradation over extended usage, which reduces the devices’ total cost of ownership (TCO). At FETC and TCEA, BenQ will showcase the following solutions:

BYOD Interactivity: Enhancing Learning Through Collaboration
Today’s students are using a wide range of devices to facilitate their schoolwork. As a result, schools have integrated smartphones, tablets, and laptops within the classroom environment to promote student interaction and enhance the learning process. To support collaboration, BenQ offers a full line of interactive projectors, IFP displays, and apps.

MX661 BYOD Projector — To balance superior image quality with today’s BYOD requirements, BenQ’s Colorific MX661 projector uses XGA native resolution to bring crisp content to the screen. When paired with BenQ’s QPresenter app for Android(TM) and IOS(R) devices, up to four students can collaborate and share documents, photos, and Internet content directly from their mobile devices. For IT managers, facility-wide maintenance is made simple with LAN control, enabling centralized remote monitoring and management. The MX661 provides support for AMX(R), Crestron(R), and PJLink(R) systems, making maintenance even more flexible and efficient, while manual vertical keystone calibration of ±40 gets materials up and running rapidly, regardless of classroom layout or projector placement.

MW824ST MHL-Equipped Interactive Projector — The new MW824ST interactive short-throw classroom projector combines SmartEco lamp-saving technology — for up to 10,000 hours of lamp life — with connectivity and performance options that provide next-generation classroom experiences. Equipped with BenQ’s PointWrite(TM) and QWrite capabilities for multiuser onscreen collaboration and the ability to share content from mobile devices via Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) technology, the MW824ST creates a more immersive and interactive learning experience for teachers and students.

Interactive Flat Panel Displays — BenQ’s IFPs bring highly accurate multitouch technology, superb image quality, and complete multimedia connectivity to learning environments. With display sizes ranging from 42 to 65 inches, the panels feature tile-friendly Windows(R) 8 compatibility, full HD resolution, and integrated speakers to transform lessons into more engaging exchanges. Ambient light sensors automatically adjust displays to simplify performance settings while picture-in-picture (PIP) enhances productivity and content control. In addition, optical sensing touch technology allows teachers and students to pan, zoom, and easily scroll through documents and websites. The IL650 (65-inch) multitouch display will be showcased at both events.

PointWrite Technology and QWrite Software — The enhanced BenQ PointWrite technology adds multiple pen integration, allowing up to four students to contribute simultaneously. With 1-second auto calibration and fast writing response time, PointWrite is effortless to set up and ensures an ultra smooth, interruption-free writing experience. Teachers can get up to four students to the board to share the lesson plan, making learning fun and interactive. The QWrite software is optimized for PointWrite, adding a number of effective learning tools for whiteboard applications.

BenQ SmartEco Technology: Lowering TCO
BenQ’s world-leading SmartEco lamp-saving technology brings the most advanced features to the classroom to lower TCO without compromising brightness, picture quality, or lamp performance. The latest BenQ SmartEco classroom projectors offer the following energy-savings modes:

- SmartEco Mode allows projectors to automatically adjust lamp power based on the amount of brightness required, allowing schools to reduce their TCO while maintaining optimal contrast and brightest performance.

- LampSave Mode dynamically adjusts lamp power to extend lamp life by 50 percent while cutting the frequency of lamp replacement in half. The result is an incredible 10,000 hours of lamp life without any concessions to quality.

- LumenCare Mode adjusts projector lamp power in gain steps until full power is reached, effectively maximizing power savings and reducing brightness decay. It’s the first and only projection feature on the market that ensures three years of consistent image brightness for optimal learning and teaching.

- Eco Blank Mode allows teachers to blank out the projection screen whenever the projector is not in use. When activated, Eco Blank Mode automatically dims lamp power and cuts 70 percent of the device’s total power consumption.

- No Source Detected Mode automatically activates the projector’s Eco Blank Mode after the projector has been idle for more than three minutes — further reducing unnecessary energy use while prolonging lamp life.

- Standby Mode lowers power consumption to less than 0.5W during periods of inactivity, providing energy savings during downtimes.

To experience these smart Classroom IQ solutions, visit BenQ at FETC 2014, Booth 208 and at TCEA 2014, Booth 212. More information on the full line of BenQ products is available at www.BenQ.us.

Wohler Addresses Growing Business Momentum With Four New Hires in Sales and Engineering

Innovations Drive Business Growth Across Both Signal Management and Monitoring Line and RadiantGrid(TM) File-Based Media Processing Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO — Jan. 23, 2014 — Responding to rapid growth across the company, Wohler Technologies today announced four more new hires in key sales and engineering positions in a second series of new appointments this month. For Wohler signal management and monitoring products, Shawn Sennett will serve as director of western U.S. sales and Jerry Williamson will serve as director of eastern U.S. sales. For the Wohler RadiantGrid(TM) business line, Brian Massie has been hired as sales engineer and Tom McFarland as QA engineer.

“The unique forward-looking functionality of new product releases across our business has opened up significant growth opportunities for Wohler,” said Carl J. Dempsey, Wohler president and CEO. “These new additions — Shawn, Jerry, Brian, and Tom — to the Wohler sales and engineering teams will ensure that we can keep pace with the growing momentum created by innovations such as our MPEG monitoring line and the new WohlerDPP, powered by RadiantGrid.”

Wohler’s award-winning MPEG Series of broadcast-quality MPEG video monitors represents the first universal digital broadcast confidence monitor line in the broadcast industry. By consolidating MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 streams into the mainstream workflow, the Wohler monitors enable a single operator to monitor all video streams, even those destined for delivery via Web portals and mobile services, from a single system and interface. In doing so, the system further reduces the cost and complexity of handling the various streams processed and distributed by today’s broadcast and production facilities. Handling the MPEG Series and other signal management and monitoring solution sales, Sennett will be based in Los Angeles, and Williamson will be based in Philadelphia.

The RadiantGrid Intelligent Media Transformation Platform(TM) and RadiantGrid-powered file-based processing solutions are likewise transforming critical workflows within the media enterprise. The expansion of RadiantGrid engineering personnel comes as demand for these solutions continues to rise. Massie will be based in the U.K., and McFarland will be based in San Francisco.

Furman Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) technology provides professional-grade protection from surges and spikes while Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) safeguards against dangerous voltage conditions. Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) reduces line noise in the audio/video bandwidth to ensure maximum equipment performance. The unit provides nine IEC C13 outlets (six sequenced on rear panel, two switched on rear panel, and one switched on front panel) at 10 Amp capacity in a sturdy 1-RU chassis. With three-stage power sequencing (three banks of two outlets each), users can manage the power-up and power-down sequence of their system, avoiding problems such as circuit breaker trips, voltage sags and speaker pops. The device’s sequencing can also be controlled by a momentary or maintained switch via a rear panel block; while the unit’s BNC connector conveniently allows the attachment of an optional 12VDC gooseneck lamp for rear illumination. Improvements from the PS-8R E II include externally adjustable delay and remote interface configuration settings as well as a more compact chassis design.

Furman(R) P-8 PRO C Classic Series Power Conditioner
The newest addition to the Furman(R) Classic Series for audio/video professionals, the P-8 PRO C delivers the same trusted protection and filtering as the Furman PL-PRO DMC, with a minimalistic front panel design ideal for use in applications where front panel metering and illumination are not required. Features include a 20 Amp rating and renowned Furman Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP), which virtually eliminates service calls, thanks to the technology’s ability to safely absorb, clamp and dissipate transient voltages. Ensuring optimal performance, the nine-outlet device is also equipped with Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) to protect against digital data loss and damage from extreme voltage spikes and excessive AC noise, while removing the need to reboot digital presets. With Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS), the P-8 PRO C safeguards gear from sustained over-voltage conditions by constantly monitoring incoming voltage. In the event of a voltage over 137VAC, the unit and all connected equipment are immediately shut down.

SMPTE to Offer CCNA Security Along With Full Slate of CCNA Routing and Switching Courses in 2014

Intensive Courses Offer Unique Opportunity to Learn How to Address Critical Networking Security Concerns

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Jan. 21, 2014 — The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the worldwide leader in motion-imaging standards and education for the communications, media, entertainment, and technology industries, today announced the addition of CCNA Security to the Society’s current roster of Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) virtual course offerings. The SMPTE Professional Development Academy offers this intensive 12-week virtual course along with the four CCNA Routing and Switching courses — Introduction to Networks (CCNA1), Routing and Switching Essentials (CCNA2), Scaling Networks (CCNA3), and Connecting Networks (CCNA4) — through the SMPTE Virtual Classroom.

“In addition to the CCNA Security course, SMPTE offers all four CCNA Routing and Switching courses to help meet the educational needs of industry professionals as their work becomes ever more network-focused,” said Robert Seidel, executive vice president at SMPTE and vice president of engineering and advanced technology at CBS Television Network. “Whatever their experience and background, engineers today must understand current concepts and practices such as cloud-based computing, the use of Internet Protocol (IP) and internetworking technologies, and infrastructure considerations in the modern media facility. To this end, SMPTE CCNA courses cover the fundamentals of network administration and internetworking concepts, as well as the security concepts that are now essential engineering knowledge.”

The CCNA Security course now being offered by SMPTE provides a next step for individuals who want to enhance their CCNA-level skill set and to help meet the growing demand for network professionals. The curriculum provides an introduction to the core security concepts and skills needed for the installation, troubleshooting, and monitoring of network devices to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, availability, and overall security of data and devices. CCNA1 and CCNA2 are prerequisites for this course.

Each CCNA Routing and Switching course introduced for 2014 has been extended from nine to 12 weeks to help participants better balance professional, personal, and now educational commitments. Covering more advanced, comprehensive, and practical information earlier in the CCNA program assures that course participants are able to effectively apply advanced concepts in the workplace sooner. This real-world practical perspective is supported through the extensive use of Cisco’s Packet Tracer network simulation program during all CCNA courses.

Individuals who completed the previous CCNA Exploration courses and register for subsequent CCNA courses through SMPTE will gain free access to the supplemental self-paced materials developed by Cisco to address any differences between the old and new programs. This allows course participants to better prepare for Cisco’s CCENT and CCNA Routing and Switching Certification Exams, if certification is a goal.

“SMPTE’s CCNA course offerings give broadcast engineers and other professionals in motion imaging engineering a highly valuable and unique educational opportunity: to join other media industry professionals in a course of study that provides comprehensive coverage of crucial networking concepts and principles,” added Seidel. “The positive feedback we’ve received about these courses has been tremendous, and I encourage all industry executives and engineers who are responsible for media production, postproduction, or media engineering functions to consider this program for their technical and engineering staff members and even for themselves.”

These SMPTE Virtual Classroom programs are blended-learning courses utilizing a “flipped classroom” education model. In other words, participants spend time on independent study and ask questions via the virtual classroom’s online discussion forum, and then participate in live weekly instructor coaching sessions where the instructor answers questions and assists with clarifying more complex topics and activities in real-time. This approach allows for maximum flexibility and more effective use of the participant’s time with the instructor. In contrast to a self-paced program, each course has a specific start date, specific stop date, and recommended learning goals to help participants plan their studies and stay on track. Successful completion of these intensive courses is determined by completing graded Packet Tracer internetworking activities, chapter assessments, and a final online examination.

Class sizes for the SMPTE CCNA courses are kept small to allow instructors to provide individual attention to participants. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited. SMPTE members enjoy discounted pricing. When combined with other benefits of SMPTE membership, such as free monthly webcasts and discounts on key industry events, the savings on SMPTE CCNA courses can easily justify joining the Society.

Further information about SMPTE CCNA courses is online at www.smpte.org/education/courses. More information about SMPTE is available at www.smpte.org.
