At InfoComm 2014, Blonder Tongue, a leading manufacturer of SD and HD digital video solutions, will provide live demonstrations of its next-generation MPEG-2 encoders, QAM/IPTV transcoders, and MPEG transport stream analyzer, all designed to optimize television distribution.

New Products and Technology Demonstrations

HDE-8C-QAM MPEG-2 HD Encoder
At the InfoComm Show, Blonder Tongue will demonstrate its affordable HDE-8C-QAM, a high-performance MPEG-2 HD encoder. Offering an attractive price per channel, the easy-to-use HDE-8C-QAM supports Dolby(R) Digital audio encoding and provides users with reliable and efficient encoding performance.

The encoder is capable of accepting programs from up to eight component or composite inputs, including satellite receivers and cable set-top boxes. After accepting video content, the HDE-8C-QAM digitizes, MPEG-2 encodes, multiplexes, and modulates the eight input programs into four adjacent ClearQAM channels. Any one of the QAM outputs is also available in the ASI format. In addition, the encoder features a built-in ability to switch over any of the primary inputs to a spare input for uninterrupted service.

There are two specialized software versions of the HDE-8C-QAM available that allow the unit to control and manage receivers from DIRECTV and Dish Network. Utilizing this software, operators can effectively reduce truck rolls and increase reliability. The encoder supports Dolby Digital audio encoding and Closed Captioning (EIA-608). It is also equipped with an Emergency Alert System (EAS) interface. A front-panel RF test point allows for monitoring/testing of the QAM output without service interruption. Comprehensive remote monitoring and control is accomplished using any standard Web browser via a rear-panel 10/100Base-T Ethernet connection.

AQT8 Series Transcoder
Blonder Tongue will also showcase its recently introduced (at the 2014 NAB Show) AQT8 Series transcoder, which provides channel processing in a high-density, low-cost, flexible 1-RU chassis that reduces the equipment, space, and power needed for QAM or IPTV in-house distribution. The AQT8 Series transcoder inputs eight 8VSB digital off-air and/or QAM signals, and outputs both in IP and QAM simultaneously, providing operators with maximum flexibility for selecting channels and distributing them.

Through an interactive dashboard, operators can monitor the performance status of all eight channels. An intuitive Web-based GUI simplifies setup and management, enabling local and remote operation. Three models are available depending on the desired output distribution. The AQT8-IP provides an IP output, the AQT8-QAM provides a QAM output, and the AQT8-QAM/IP provides QAM and IP outputs simultaneously. Emergency Alert System (EAS) program switching is featured on the GigE output, triggering either an ASI or IP format EAS input and terminal block contacts, allowing operators to comply with EAS requirements.

HDE-4S-PRO Encoder
An extension of the companys standard HDE-4S-QAM encoder, Blonder Tongues HDE-4S-PRO brings efficiency, quality, and affordability to professional sports encoding applications. In addition to the enhanced motion estimation for HD-SDI inputs, the PRO includes an HD-SDI spare and monitoring points — optimizing encoding in real-time environments. Utilizing the MPEG-2 encoder, operators can accept up to four HD-SDI programs, plus one spare, and simultaneously output in QAM, IP streams (1000Base-T Ethernet), and ASI formats. By allowing operators to assign up to four programs to each QAM output channel, and to individually turn on/off each of the four adjacent QAM output channels, the PRO dramatically improves transport efficiency.

The encoder supports Dolby(R) Digital and closed captioning (EIA-608 and EIA-708) to ensure superior audio quality. It is also equipped with an EAS interface to support the delivery of emergency messages. A front-panel RF test point allows operators to monitor and test the QAM output without service interruption. Comprehensive remote monitoring and control is accomplished via a user-friendly Web browser.

MTSA-PRO MPEG Transport Stream Analyzer
At InfoComm, Blonder Tongue will also be showing a test bench demonstration of its MTSA-PRO MPEG transport stream analyzer, designed to help operators understand what is going on inside their digital transmission. Utilizing the compact device, users can capture, analyze, and generate MPEG ASI transport streams to troubleshoot problems from outside sources and ensure the best digital delivery. The MTSA-PRO features a single DVB-ASI input and output with USB (half duplex) and RF input. By enabling real-time analysis, monitoring, and decoding of transport streams, the software-based solution helps reduce transport stream issues and ensure superior video quality. The MTSA-PRO can also serve as a PSI/PSIP generator and advertisement inserter.

Riedel Artist Intercom Enables Flexible Comms for Macau’s Spectacular Live Water Show, The House of Dancing Water

WUPPERTAL, Germany — May 6, 2014 – Riedel Communications, a leading provider of real-time video, audio, data, and communications networks, today announced that its Artist digital matrix intercom system is being used for communications throughout The House of Dancing Water, a breathtaking in-the-round water show created by the Franco Dragone Entertainment Group for Macau’s City of Dreams entertainment complex.



“The Riedel solution was originally specified by the sound designer, Francois Bergeron of the Thinkwell Group in the U.S.,” said Jason Graham, head of sound at Dragone Macau Limited. “We continue to work with Riedel’s Artist primarily for its reliability, stability, and seemingly limitless flexibility. All of these factors are important due to the integral role the system plays in uniting everyone who is working on the show.”

Designed by Pei Partnership Architects, the state-of-the-art Dancing Water Theatre created for The House of Dancing Water includes a stage pool that holds a record-breaking 3.7 million gallons of water, equivalent to five Olympic-sized swimming pools, within an arena boasting a 40-meter-high steel-trussed space that provides the generous height required for the show’s diving and acrobatics elements. The show itself centers on an epic love story and spectacular journey through time, showcasing dazzling costumes, special effects, and performances.

One Riedel Artist 64 frame and two Artist 32 frames support 62 panels distributed across the Dancing Water Theatre. The motocross stunt riders and acrobatic performers, coupled with the technical teams, use the Artist intercom system for continual communication during the show, which features visuals, water, and atmospheric effects. Even in the aquatics area, the Artist system supports communications with performers and underwater performer handlers in the pool via underwater speakers, in-mask communications systems, and buddy phones. Lighting, stage management, rigging, automation, sfx, and audio technicians use the remaining bulk of the panels.

Riedel’s Director software enables intuitive management and configuration of the system while also facilitating real-time system monitoring from multiple computers. Monitored by the sound department, the Director software gives the sound team the ability to respond to configuration requests and to perform troubleshooting at a moment’s notice.

At InfoComm 2014, R.L. Drake, a leading global provider of digital and analog cable, digital signage, and MPEG encoding systems, will introduce the SDE24A and HDE24A encoder modules, both of which offer a wide range of improvements over the company’s popular SDE24 and HDE24 units, including superior video quality at lower bitrates.

The DSE 2 PLUS dual multiplexing encoder, which is now shipping, will also be demonstrated at the show.

New Products and Technology Demonstrations

DSE 2 PLUS Dual Multiplexing Encoder — NOW SHIPPING
A key highlight at Drake’s InfoComm booth will be the DSE 2 PLUS dual multiplexing encoder, which combines encoding and QAM modulation capabilities within a single stand-alone unit. Ideal for digital signage applications, the DSE 2 PLUS can also be used to simplify HD video distribution for various applications across the house of worship, education, healthcare, government, and hospitality markets.

The DSE 2 PLUS digitally encodes two uncompressed HDMI, high-resolution component video or VGA inputs to MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 (H.264), and then uses an internal multiplexing QAM modulator and low-noise upconverter to enable distribution of two HD programs over existing legacy fiber and coaxial networks while providing a superior reliability and consistent performance. Leveraging the bandwidth savings provided by the encoder, users can deliver twice as many HD programs or multiple channels at half the bandwidth. This enables users to tap into existing networks of digital HD displays to provide informational video, revenue-generating advertising, or promotional content in a vibrant high-definition format.

SDE24A Dual SD MPEG Encoder
At InfoComm, Drake will introduce the SDE24A encoder module, an advanced version of the company’s popular SDE24 module. Improvements include the capability to encode two SD programs in MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 (H.264), the ability to deliver a higher video quality at lower bitrates, and sharper image and text detail.

With the SDE24A dual-input SD MPEG encoder, users can perform analog to digital encoding of up to two separate input sources in real time. The unit can be configured to encode sources in either MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 (H.264) transport streams to optimize bandwidth efficiency. Each module provides two sets of input connectors for NTSC Composite Video with stereo (L+R) audio. Audio is encoded using Dolby Digital audio encoding, as with the HDE24A.

HDE24A Dual HD MPEG Encoder
At InfoComm 2014, Drake will unveil the HDE24A encoder, which provides high-quality, low-cost HD encoding in MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 (H.264) with Dolby Digital or MPEG-1 Audio Layer II. The HDE24A offers an improved video quality at lower bitrates, especially in the MPEG-2 mode, and sharper image and text detail than the company’s popular HDE24 module.

As with the SDE24A, the HDE24A HD encoder module is designed to be installed into Drake’s EH24, EH244, or MEQ1000-style chassis. This configuration provides users with the ultimate in bandwidth management and economy by allowing multiple HD and SD streams to be multiplexed together dependent upon the limitations of the bandwidth of the chosen output, whether QAM or ASI.

The HD encoder accepts non-encrypted HDMI or component video inputs and can inject closed-captioning data from a synchronized composite video source, which is typically provided by the same decoder that produces the HD video stream. Composite analog audio inputs provide the audio source when an HDMI source does not contain embedded audio. Typically, HDMI has embedded audio but if the HDMI is derived from a source converter that does not provide audio, such as DVI-to-HDMI, then the analog composite inputs may be used.

Motorized Panelboards Bring Electrical Protection and Remote Control Capabilities to New York City’s Leading Landmark

Installed above the structure’s 408-foot rooftop spire, the 104-story One World Trade Center’s lighthouse-inspired rotating beacon brightens the skyline by outputting more than 300,000 lumens at bidirectional distances of up to 50 miles. The one-of-a-kind solution employs a series of single and double-headed custom LED color uplight fixtures to illuminate the spire’s open steel frame while the structure’s rotating beacon uses a complex array of white LEDs and revolving mirrors to create an extraordinary sky-bound lighthouse effect. To enable advanced electrical protection and simple third-party integration throughout the world-class lighting installation, system integrator Barbizon — the nation’s largest lighting integration company — turned to LynTec’s award-winning line of RPC panelboards with motorized breaker technology.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — May 5, 2014 — Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) today announced the availability of a new two-way driver for Tenflare’s Voice Viper CTL voice control system. Developed by RTI, the new driver makes it simple for integrators to incorporate voice control into RTI’s cost-effective control and automation systems, providing their clients with a powerful “hands-free” complement to the company’s extensive line of user interfaces.

Developed exclusively for the custom integration market, the Voice Viper hardware solution is remarkably accurate and responsive. Always on, the system does not require any button presses to activate — reacting only to spoken commands, via in-wall microphones, while ignoring ambient conversation. Simple to program and integrate into an RTI control system using the Integration Designer(R) drag-and-drop programming environment, the two-way driver allows up to 256 different control phrases.

To execute voice commands, Voice Viper’s compact module communicates to an RTI control system via RS-232 or Ethernet for quick, reliable control. Using just the user’s voice, the RTI system provides complete control over all electronic systems in a home or commercial facility from A/V equipment to HVAC, lighting, security systems, and much more.

Vocia(R) 1.6 marks a significant addition to the Biamp(R) Vocia networked public address and voice evacuation system. The central aim of this release is to better integrate with Biamp’s Tesira(R) and Audia(R) platforms in order to provide seamless multi-functional solutions. With new capabilities for extending the platform to an even broader range of installations of various sizes, Vocia 1.6 provides three new hardware devices — the eight-channel Vocia Input (VI-8) device for analog and digital paging inputs, the VoIP-1 telephone-paging adaptor, and the POTS-1 analog telephone-paging adaptor. Manufacturers’ Training Sessions at InfoComm 2014

Biamp Systems will highlight the Biamp(R) Education Experience, a robust program of education and training resources designed to provide customers with timely, targeted, and flexible learning options.
