Harmonic Enhances Polaris Playout Management Suite With Cost-Effective Integrated Master Control Functionality

Polaris Play Automation Software Offers Rich Application Toolbox for Scheduled and Live Playout in Channel-in-a-Box Environments

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Dec. 9, 2014 — Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT), the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, today announced its new Polaris(TM) Play channel-in-a-box (CIAB) automation software for the company’s Polaris playout management suite. Tightly integrated with Harmonic’s market-leading Spectrum(TM) media server system, Polaris Play blends a rich set of automated ingest, media preparation, and playout workflow capabilities that enable efficient and cost-effective management of up to four fully branded SD or HD channels, each with matched simulcast channels, in a single rack unit.

“Designed specifically for broadcasters with modest playout requirements and budgets, Polaris Play gives users a breadth of control capabilities that enable straightforward management of the critical elements that support an on-air channel,” said Tom Lattie, vice president, product management at Harmonic. “Users can leverage Polaris Play to drive a cost-effective CIAB model for their playout channels.”

Polaris Play provides a suite of master control room (MCR) tools that enable ingest, content preparation, segmentation, preview, and channel playlist control. Scheduled operations can be driven by traffic or by manually created playlists. Coupled with the Spectrum MediaDeck(TM) integrated media server and its high-density I/O capabilities, integrated file services, and native codec and file wrapper support, Polaris Play simplifies deployment and operation of the playout workflow.

The Polaris suite represents Harmonic’s evolving offering in the emerging Media Orchestration category, which is important as workflows consolidate and simplify. Within this suite, Polaris Play offers broadcasters a robust, yet attractively priced, CIAB solution powered by the industry’s most trusted server platform, enabling users to reduce both capital and operating expenses.

Polaris Play can be combined with the recently announced Harmonic Polaris Live manual device control application, enabling the Spectrum ChannelPort(TM) integrated channel playout system to fulfill both production and master control requirements for many live-to-air workflows. The resulting hybrid environment offers powerful and highly efficient integrated master control room (iMCR) capabilities, allowing users to switch between scheduled playout and manual playout of live events based on the schedule or on an ad hoc basis.

“The iMCR model can be a game-changer in that it enables users to drive graphics-intensive live-to-air workflows,” said Lattie. “Together, Polaris Play and Polaris Live offer the benefits of CIAB solutions — reduced equipment costs and workflow complexity — while providing the power and flexibility critical within the most demanding production environments.”

In addition to reducing hardware costs, the iMCR model supports highly flexible and efficient workflows that users can customize with Polaris Live’s simple touch-screen interface.

Polaris Play will be available in the first quarter of 2015. Further information about Harmonic and the company’s products is available at www.harmonicinc.com.

LONDON — Dec. 5, 2014 — Forbidden Technologies plc (AIM: FBT), the AIM-quoted owner and developer of the market-leading cloud video platform Forscene, announced today that it will offer a free webinar to introduce the new Forscene environment to editors, producers, directors, and others involved in video creation. The webinar, slated for Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. PST, will be run by renowned craft editor Jeff Krebs, who recently became Forbidden’s regional manager for Canada and the Eastern U.S.

People will see clearly that Forscene is a lot more powerful than they ever would have expected.”

Titled “Edit Like a God,” the webinar will give an overview of the system and focus on how to get the most from Forscene’s editing functions. Powerful New Forscene Goes Live Along With New Forbidden and Forscene Websites

LONDON — Dec. 4, 2014 — Forbidden Technologies plc (AIM: FBT), the AIM-quoted owner and developer of the market-leading cloud video platform Forscene, announced today it has released the new version of Forscene with a completely redesigned interface befitting Forscene’s professional capabilities. In addition, they have revamped both the company website and the Forscene product website in order to give visitors more relevant, in-depth information about each and to bring the company’s complete digital presence up to date.

“2014 is the year we have transformed from an engineering solution to a creative solution,” said Stephen Streater, CEO at Forbidden Technologies plc. “Simplicity is not the mere absence of complexity, it is the mastery of complexity — and we have carried this ethos from Forscene across our new digital presence.”

The new Forscene interface combines professionally designed graphics with an elegant colour scheme and updated functionality to provide an efficient and enjoyable experience. Forbidden is also giving Forscene a new infusion of functionality by adding a Media Asset Management (MAM) system. Through the Forscene MAM, users will have the full potential of the platform — from acquisition to publishing — at their fingertips. Other new Forscene features include the ability to publish with burnt-in timecode or any other metadata; expanded multicam logging to support up to 18 cameras simultaneously; and increased support for different formats that enables functions such as editing MXF files during ingest.

The new Forscene website, www.forscene.com, launched in mid-November and offers two avenues of exploration: use cases and features. Visitors can search by use case to discover how Forscene solves issues specific to their industry or operation, with multiple scenarios listed within each category that address different operational challenges. They can also search by specific features within the platform, such as logging or publishing, and, once there, can drill down to learn more about how that feature can be used for different purposes. The site makes extensive use of case studies, presentations, videos, client experiences, FAQs, and “how-to” documents and other downloadable resources, all of which help visitors delve deep into the details that are most relevant to their situation. People can also request a free trial from the site.

The new Forbidden corporate site, launched at the end of November, includes a new blog that focusses on five main topics: broadcast, cloud technology, consumer, reactive commentary, and video platform. Blog entries will be funnelled along with press releases, RNS communications, and daily news items into one feed to keep investors up to date. The site will also provide introductory information on Forscene and eva, Forbidden’s new cloud-based video social network app.

Digital Alert Systems and Hardata Partner to Reduce Cost and Complexity of EAS Compliance

Integration of Company’s DASDEC EAS Platform With Hardata Video Server Line Simplifies Playout of EAS Messages Over Multiple Channels

LYNDONVILLE, N.Y. — Dec. 3, 2014 — Digital Alert Systems today announced a technology partnership with workflow solutions developer Hardata that enables direct Emergency Alert System (EAS) playout over multiple channels. By integrating the Digital Alert Systems DASDEC(TM) emergency messaging platform with Hardata video server products, the companies have created a solution that reduces the cost and complexity of complying with EAS requirements across multiple channels.

“Integrated solutions are more robust, less complex, and more cost-effective than a series of discrete systems, and our technology partnership with Digital Alert Systems brings these benefits to the growing number of broadcast stations that work with the DASDEC system and our own video server products,” said Gustavo Pesci, chairman and founder of Hardata. “As more and more countries establish EAS requirements, this joint solution offers television broadcasters an attractive approach to establishing and maintaining EAS compliance.”

Digital Alert Systems’ DASDEC offers comprehensive and powerful features that are optimized for current requirements and easily upgradable for the future through simple software upgrades. Packaged in a flexible, proven hardware design, the DASDEC platform provides support for a wide range of interfaces and communication standards. Together, using the Digital Alert Systems EAS-Net(TM) communications protocol to integrate Hardata video servers with the DASDEC system, Hardata and Digital Alert Systems have made it possible for users to play out EAS messaging directly from the video server platform.

“Our technology partnership with Hardata extends the use of our EAS-Net communications suite within the broadcast television realm, which in turn allows a greater number of stations and groups to take advantage of our industry-leading DASDEC platform while enjoying the benefits of Hardata’s robust server systems,” said Bill Robertson, V.P. of business development at Digital Alert Systems.

Morocco’s Atlantic FM Upgrades to NETIA’s Radio-Assist 8.2

CLARET, France — Dec. 3, 2014 — NETIA today announced that Moroccan radio group Atlantic FM, part of the Eco-Medias Group, has upgraded to version 8.2 of NETIA’s Radio-Assist(TM) digital audio software suite. Bringing Atlantic FM to the forefront of audio technology, the installation provides the foundation for a complete shift to digital broadcasting while enabling operators to take advantage of the familiar functionality and interfaces they know from the initial Radio-Assist system deployed in 2006.

“Radio-Assist offers an extensive range of features critical to the operation of a modern broadcast station,” said Rachid Mounaouar, technical director at Atlantic FM. “Given this robust functionality and the familiarity of our operators with the NETIA software, the upgrade to version 8.2 was an easy and logical decision. Also, as we move forward with our migration to digital operations, the NETIA software will support a fluid transition.”

Founded in 2006, Atlantic FM today is the Moroccan economic news leader. To keep its number-one position, the radio station needs a robust and reliable system such as NETIA’s radio automation solution. The software is a complete solution that covers the entire distribution channel from ingest to distribution, and Atlantic FM relies on the software in areas including news, commercials, and music scheduling.

The new Radio-Assist 8.2 installation at Atlantic FM’s Casablanca facilities comprises more than 32 workstations for editing, planning, and recording. Operators use NETIA’s broadcast module for production and distribution. New features introduced in Radio-Assist 8.2 include cloud-based management, giving users the ability to access the system database from any network-connected workstation.

“The new installation at Atlantic FM demonstrates not only the continued strength of our Radio-Assist software suite in the MEA area, but also the value that broadcasters see in the significantly extended feature set of version 8.2,” Jean-Michel Bombois, operations project manager at NETIA. “Ever since the original Radio-Assist in 2006, we have worked closely with Atlantic FM to support its evolution — particularly its transition to digital — and its leadership as a foremost news source in Morocco.”

More information about NETIA and its product portfolio is available at www.netia.com.

Sonnet Announces Ultra-High-Performance PCI Express SSD Card

Tempo PCIe SSD Features 512GB M.2 SSD, Supports Data Transfers Up to 1100 MB/s

IRVINE, Calif. — Dec. 2, 2014 — Sonnet Technologies today announced the Tempo(TM) PCIe(R) SSD PCI Express(R) (PCIe) solid state drive (SSD) card with a 512GB SSD module, as the newest member of the Sonnet Tempo family of high-performance storage cards. The Sonnet PCIe SSD card serves as an ultra-fast alternative to traditional storage solutions mounting a high-performance PCIe SSD on a card that installs into a computer’s PCIe expansion card slot.

Available in various form factors and capacities, SSDs have become important components in systems requiring extremely fast data transfer speeds and large numbers of I/O operations. Sonnet designed the Tempo PCIe SSD card around an M.2 PCIe SSD module, the fastest consumer-oriented SSD type now available. Capable of transferring files at up to 1100 MB/s, the Tempo PCIe SSD’s module incorporates a PCIe flash controller, enabling the card to significantly outperform a 6Gbps SATA SSD, and to achieve even greater performance than two 2.5-inch form factor SATA SSDs configured in RAID 0.

The Tempo PCIe SSD is a low-profile PCIe 2.0 card with an attached M.2 PCIe SSD providing 512GB of storage. Its small form factor allows this card to be installed into any x4 mechanical or larger PCIe slot in a Mac Pro(R) tower or Windows(R) desktop or server computer, or into any Thunderbolt(TM)-to-PCIe card expansion system such as Sonnet’s Echo(TM) Express line, xMac(TM) Pro Server, or xMac mini Server. This enables users to add high performance storage easily without increasing their computer’s footprint or cluttering a work surface with an additional external storage device.

With the Tempo PCIe SSD card installed in a Mac Pro tower or Thunderbolt-to-PCIe card expansion system, users can install OS X(R) on the SSD and create an extremely fast boot drive. In a Windows PC or Mac(R)-based system, the Tempo PCIe SSD can be used for instant access media storage or as a high-performance scratch disk.

“The Tempo PCIe SSD boasts performance once exclusive to multidrive storage systems with eight or more hard disk drives plus a high-end RAID controller card,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “Through its wide compatibility and ultra-high performance, our Tempo PCIe SSD provides convenient internal storage expansion through any available PCIe slot.”

Compatible with OS X 10.8.5+ (including Yosemite); Microsoft(R) Windows 8 and 7; and Windows Server 2012 and 2008; the Tempo PCIe SSD (part number PCIE-SSD1-512-E) is available now at a suggested retail price of $799. More information on the Tempo PCIe SSD is available at http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempopciessd.html.
