Betamobil Builds Innovative HD OB Truck on Riedel Real-Time A/V and Communications Network

WUPPERTAL, Germany — March 20, 2013 — Riedel Communications, a leading provider of real-time networks for video, audio, and communications, today announced that Berlin-based mobile production and SNG provider Betamobil has integrated Riedel technology into its newest HD OB truck. At the heart of its new six-camera unit, HD6, Betamobil uses a comprehensive system that combines Riedel’s Artist digital matrix intercom and the company’s fiber-based MediorNet media network.

“We believe that the future of mobile productions lies within flexible setup scenarios that can be adapted to the needed application,” said Thomas Busch, CEO at Betamobil. “Riedel’s real-time networks, such as MediorNet and Artist, enable us to realize incredibly flexible setups that can be quickly reconfigured.”

Betamobil uses a wide range of small and large OB vans that can be linked together and scaled up to form larger systems as the event or application demands. A Ross Carbonite(TM) switcher for vision mixing and a Soundcraft Vi1(TM) audio console are also key components of their design philosophy.

The Artist system in HD6 consists of an Artist 64 mainframe, which serves as the foundation for a total of 12 Artist 1000 series control panels. Because the modular Artist system can be expanded easily to 1024 x 1024 non-blocking ports, Betamobil is assured long-term investment security. Seamless integration with other OB trucks or broadcast production facilities is enabled via a simple fiber link. Also, by integrating Riedel’s RockNet 100 digital audio network system with MediorNet and their Soundcraft Vi1 console, Betamobil was able to establish analog audio signal distribution without the need for a dedicated audio router.

For video distribution and signal processing in HD6, Betamobil uses two MediorNet modular mainframes equipped with Riedel’s MN-HDP-6 video cards. The MN-HDP-6 cards offer two inputs and outputs, as well as two freely assignable connections with up-, down-, and cross-conversion on all inputs and outputs. They also allow for quad-split applications and support further signal processing such as audio embedding/de-embedding and frame synchronization. In addition, Betamobil uses two MediorNet Compact PRO mainframes as stagebox systems for remote applications. All signal processing and conversion options are available across all MediorNet mainframes.

“With this truck we have realized a very efficient just-enough concept without sacrificing production quality at all. It’s just a very efficient set-up based on the MediorNet network approach. This allows us to adjust quickly to the needs of a specific production. By our approach we don’t have to always carry the expensive overhead for the few productions where we utilize 100 percent of a big truck’s capacity. If we need more cameras, editing, or audio resources, we just add it to the MediorNet network by adding another small truck or external gear. This flexibility allows us to cover more productions and to be more competitive,” said Busch.

The Betamobil HD6 has already been used at various productions such as the Berlin Fashion Week.

Recent Consumer Survey Shows 75 Percent of Pay-TV Subscribers Highly Likely to Use Multiscreen Live Linear Service

New Study by The Diffusion Group and iStreamPlanet Reveals High Revenue Potential in Streaming Live Linear Channels to Multiple Devices

LAS VEGAS — March 19, 2013 — iStreamPlanet, a leading provider of live event and live linear streaming video solutions, today released the findings of a recent consumer survey it performed with The Diffusion Group (TDG), a research and advisory firm focused on the evolving broadband media ecosystem. The survey reveals the high value viewers place on live and live linear streaming video, resulting in a growing opportunity for content owners and distributors. Key findings point to strong consumer receptiveness to having access to multiscreen live linear content, and also indicate improving consumer perceptions, increasing consumer value, and potential for driving significant revenue.

In January, TDG queried 1,000 U.S. adult broadband users — 950 of which were pay-TV subscribers — about their use and perceptions of accessing live linear video on Internet-connected devices. Among the telling results: 75 percent of pay-TV subscribers were highly likely to use multiscreen live linear services if offered by their operator. What’s more, 49 percent also said that if their current pay-TV operator offered on-demand access but not live access on Internet-connected devices, and they could get such a package elsewhere at the same price, then they would definitely switch. The implication is that live linear TV Everywhere promotes retention and decreases churn, and that offering a live linear TV Everywhere service could help bring back some of the subscribers that operators have lost in the last few years.

“TDG fields numerous research projects each year, testing a variety of new applications and services, but it’s unusual to see such a strong, positive consumer reaction as we did in this survey,” said Michael Greeson, founding partner and director of consumer research at The Diffusion Group. “This survey is further evidence that the time is now for content providers to start deploying live linear streaming broadcasts to all devices, or risk losing subscribers who are looking for this level of connected media from their pay TV operator.”

The survey also found that multiscreen live linear services could not only generate new revenue from digital advertising, but might also bring content distributors significant additional subscriber revenues. Half of survey respondents said they were likely to sign up for a service priced at $10 per month, and 60 percent were likely to sign up for the service if it were priced at $5 per month.

When asked whether they would sign up for a pay-TV service that included multiscreen live linear access, 30 percent of those without a pay-TV subscription said they were likely or highly likely to do so. Among those who do have a subscription, 49 percent said they would definitely watch live linear content on their Internet-connected devices if the service were offered as part of their regular pay-TV service (at no extra charge).

“Multiscreen live video and live linear channels are critical to meeting consumer expectations,” said Robin Cole, vice president of product and services for iStreamPlanet. “We are seeing this demand firsthand in the evolving business needs of our customers. Our goal at iStreamPlanet is to remove the technological barriers by providing a cost-effective and scalable solution to deliver live TV Everywhere experiences.”

The survey findings are detailed in a white paper available for download at http://www.istreamplanet.com/multiscreen-whitepaper/.

Bittree to Feature High-Performance Patch Panels for Fiber-Optic and Ethernet Cabling at 2013 NAB Show

GLENDALE, Calif. — March 20, 2013 — Bittree, a manufacturer of high-quality audio and video patching systems, today announced that its line of fiber-optic feed-through and data patch panels has been updated with new, easy-to-use lacing bars and flush-mounted keystone connectors. Bittree will demonstrate its updated fiber and data patching solutions in booth SU6521 at the 2013 NAB Show.

“The boundaries between broadcast, pro A/V, and IT are becoming less distinct as emerging technologies continue to shape broadcast operations and centers for content creation and distribution,” said Glenn Garrard, president of Bittree. “In the face of these trends, we recognized a need for patching systems to accommodate fiber-optic, Ethernet, and other data-related cabling. With the expansion of fiber-optic technology across multiple industries, Bittree’s fiber panels can be used in multiple applications from broadcast studios to server rooms.”

Bittree now offers a line of data system keystone panels for LC/LC, SC/SC, and ST/ST connections. As the industry’s first fiber panels to provide optional designation strips, these systems enable customized combinations of LC, SC, and ST couplers with the ability to mix and match accordingly. Available in 1RU and 2RU with configurations of 1×12, 1×24, and 2×16, the Bittree fiber-optic panels provide the versatility to meet a wide range of project requirements. With the addition of the fiber product line, Bittree now provides a single source for resellers and integrators to purchase both copper and fiber patching systems.

Because data systems are gaining popularity in broadcast and pro A/V environments, Bittree has added an additional line of Cat 6 feed-through data panels and bulkheads to accommodate integrators’ needs and allow Bittree customers to purchase more solutions directly from the company. Like the fiber panels, the Cat 6 systems feature optional designation strips as well as silk-screened front panels to simplify patching for technicians.

“These high-performance patching solutions are just the latest example of Bittree’s commitment to offer unique products that deliver maximum flexibility and fit the needs of a wide variety of professionals,” added Garrard.

Bigger and Faster is Better With New BenQ XL2720T Professional Gaming Monitor

Newest Addition to Flagship XL Series Features Larger 27-Inch Display and Enhanced 1-ms Response Time for Professional PC and Console Gaming

IRVINE, Calif. — March 19, 2013 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of digital lifestyle innovations, today announced the expansion of its flagship XL Series with the launch of its XL2720T gaming monitor for professional and competitive first-person shooter (FPS) play. Packed with advanced features, the monitor comes equipped with a larger 27-inch display, 120Hz refresh rate, and blazing-fast 1-ms response time to optimize gaming performances. Engineered in conjunction with legendary pro gamers, the XL2720T integrates BenQ’s custom settings such as a Black eQualizer, Display Mode, and Smart Scaling to give gamers a competitive edge over their opponents.

“As the official gaming monitor sponsor for Major League Gaming, BenQ is devoted to bringing professional-grade performance and innovation to serious competitors,” said Bob Wudeck, Director of Retail and e-Commerce at BenQ America Corp. “The new XL2720T builds on our award-winning XL Series by adding a stunning 27-inch screen and faster response time to give FPS gaming even greater levels of immersion and intensity. By combining advanced features, game-specific presets, and dual HDMI connectivity, the XL2720T is set to become the most complete gaming monitor on the market.”

The BenQ XL Series is designed to handle the most demanding gaming conditions and is used in top-tier tournament play for FPS games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and BattleField, as well as popular console fighting games such as Mortal Kombat(TM). Using an ultra-low 0.002-frame input lag, the XL2720T synchronizes action without latency from mouse motion to give the player complete control over the gaming experience. The monitor’s 120Hz refresh rate and ultra-fast 1-ms response time further bolster player performance to the highest possible level.

With dual HDMI(R) ports, the XL2720T is engineered to provide full HD connectivity with peripherals and console devices including PS3(TM), XBOX(R), Blu-ray(TM) players, PCs, and more. The monitor features a full HD 27-inch widescreen (16:9) display, 12 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and LED backlighting to create genuine colors without increasing power consumption. The XL2720T is also certified for NVIDIA(R) 3D Vision(TM) 2 and supports full HD 3D gaming. For even more vivid viewing, the XL2720T is equipped with NVIDIA 3D LightBoost(TM) technology, which allows for up to twice the amount of original screen brightness.

To give players a competitive edge, the XL2720T features BenQ’s Black eQualizer, which enables total gaming visibility by allowing gamers to adjust brightness without over-exposing white levels — revealing critical combat details with improved visibility in darkened areas. To accommodate individual viewing preferences, the Display Mode allows gamers to switch between nine monitor screen sizes, including 17-inch (4:3), 19-inch (4:3), 19-inch widescreen (16:10), 21.5-inch widescreen (16:9), 22-inch widescreen (16:10), 23-inch widescreen (16:9), 23.6-inch widescreen (16:9), 24-inch widescreen (16:9), and 27-inch widescreen (16:9), while Smart Scaling enables players to adjust the screen on-the-fly to virtually any custom size without impacting controller sensitivity.

In addition, the XL2720T offers preset FPS modes with multiple configurations to optimize the monitor’s display. For instance, using the FPS1 Mode, users can apply settings specifically defined for Counter-Strike 1.6, while an FPS2 Mode will optimize the display for Counter-Strike Source. Both modes automatically adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color tint to give gamers an advantage when spotting and tracking their opponents. Using the Game Mode Loader, players can also store the same gaming presets used by pro gamers in titles such as Battlefield 3, Call of Duty(R) 3, Diablo III, and Dota 2. Gamers can also install and save presets onto the monitor’s S Switch for rapid access; thus allowing them to switch swiftly between customized display settings for gaming as well as entertainment. The stylish controller offers a scroll button that facilitates fast navigation and adjustment of the OSD setting.

With its ultra-flexible height adjustment stand, the XL2720T offers the ultimate in convenience and versatility by allowing operation with just one finger to effortlessly adjust the monitor’s height to suit a gamer’s particular sight level. The monitor can also be positioned either vertically or horizontally and comes equipped with a quick-release VESA mount design. A sleek headphone hook on the back of the display helps to keep accessories organized, while a convenient carrying handle makes it a breeze to take the monitor on the road for a LAN party.

The XL2720T is available for pre-order today and retails for $549 in the U.S. and Canada. For information on the full line of BenQ gaming monitors and to download preset gaming modes, visit Gaming.BenQ.com.
