Draper Announces Yet Another ISF Certification

(Spiceland, Ind.) – Draper, Inc. has announced its TecVision XH900X Grey projection viewing surface has been certified by the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) for excellent color reproduction and fidelity. XH900X Grey performs very well in moderate ambient light, is well suited for high resolution content, and is 4K ready. This latest announcement means the entire TecVision Engineered Surface Technology line is now ISF certified.TecVision_XH900X_Grey

To be certified by the ISF, a screen has to have a flat spectral response—or color fidelity. In other words, the screen cannot affect the color of the image enough for the human eye to perceive.
Traditionally, projection screens have fooled the eye that things are brighter by using blue tints, according to ISF President and founder Joel Silver.

“The problem,” says Silver, “is if you accentuate the blue that means you aren’t getting the greens or reds you need to build a color-accurate image. We want to take whatever the artist created and bring it to the screen with fidelity.”
“We basically tie ourselves into something called a pure white matte screen –a screen that is a reference color,” Silver says of testing projection screens for color performance. “Neutral white … not a hint of tint to it. The picture you get is what was it was meant to look like from the factory … not tinted.”

Currently available in six exclusive formulations, TecVision features white surfaces with gains ranging from 1.0 to 1.9 over remarkably wide viewing cones, and grey surfaces with excellent performance under higher room light levels. All TecVision surfaces are also 4K ready, but what most impressed Silver when certifying TecVision is the ability of some of the high gain surfaces to deal with ambient light while preserving color fidelity.

“Finding the color fidelity of high gain materials close to that of no gain materials was wonderful!” Silver says. “Gain without a price to pay is a wonderful thing. I knew from measuring luminance even without the specifications that these screens were high gain, but I wasn’t seeing the penalty of color shift.

“It’s a great challenge,” Silver continues. “Adding gain without paying a penalty in color fidelity requires careful engineering. Compliments to the engineer!”

About Draper
Founded in 1902 as a window shade manufacturer, Draper, Inc., is a Spiceland, Ind.-based manufacturer of projection screens and lifts and mounts for projectors and displays, providing AV related equipment for over half a century.
Draper has focused a lot of resources on product design, with innovations like the Access family of motorized screens, improved tab tensioning system and revolutionary modular portable screens.

Two and a half years ago we moved our primary focus to the surfaces themselves, and their optical performance. We built a world class testing lab, and worked with consultants and key suppliers to identify and refine ingredients to improve the optical performance of our surfaces. Since then we have introduced many new surfaces to address specific needs in the marketplace. And we developed the new standard in surface planning tools, the Draper Pro Screen Calculator.

Draper products are sold to dealers and shipped throughout the United States and to more than 100 countries. In addition to its Spiceland, Indiana headquarters, Draper, Inc. has sales offices in Placentia, CA and in Blackwood, Gwent, United Kingdom. Draper also has four wholly owned subsidiaries: Draper Group Ltd., a sales and warehouse facility in Corby, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, and three manufacturing companies in Sweden: Draper Europe AB, a leading European projection screen manufacturer; SMS Smart Media Solutions AB, a leading European provider of video projector and flat screen mounts; and Evoko Unlimited AB, provider of the Evoko Room Manager. Draper Introduces New Engineered Screen Technology

(Spiceland, Ind.) – In recent years projectors and projection technology have been advancing quickly. Draper is taking projection screen technology another step into the future at Integrated Systems Europe 2014 with the creation of TecVision Engineered Surface Technology. Available in five exclusive formulations to start, TecVision features white surfaces with gains ranging from 1.3 to 1.9 over remarkably wide viewing cones, and grey surfaces with excellent performance under higher room light levels.

“There are few companies in the world who are experts in designing projection screen surfaces,” according to Draper company president John Pidgeon. “Most screen fabrics are made by firms whose primary business is manufacturing textiles for other purposes. We’ve made a major investment in equipment, expert personnel and research time specifically to offer this line of revolutionary new surfaces unmatched by any other screen manufacturer in the world.”

TecVision also offers a departure from typical screen production, according to Bob Mathes, AV Market Manager for Draper.

“Utilizing technologically advanced manufacturing methods, proprietary scientific formulations and establishing the highest quality standard, we are prepared to meet the rigorous demands of today’s projectors and the environments in which screens are and will be used,” Mathes says. “Rather than using “mass-production” methods in order to minimize costs, TecVision screens are individually produced; each and every screen surface is individually formulated, programmed, and manufactured with multiple checks for quality, consistency and uniformity from start to finish.”

These premium surfaces are not sold online and are only available through qualified Draper dealers. They are being seen for the first time at Integrated Systems Europe.

“We are pretty excited about TechVision,” says Pidgeon. “These five surfaces are just the start. The sky’s the limit as far as surfaces we can create to match whatever specs require.”

Draper Introduces Video Conferencing Accessories

For effective video conferencing in today’s multi-use conference rooms and other venues, you need the required technology precisely where you need it, when you need it—but out of sight when you don’t. Draper has introduced several new products designed to do just that.

Draper’s Video Conferencing Camera Lift-Ceiling allows the placement of a video conferencing camera directly behind a motorized projection screen; the camera raises and lowers with the screen.

The Video Conferencing Camera Lift–Credenza hides your camera in virtually any conference room furnishing, ready to be raised at any time by simple remote operation.

Draper’s Video Conferencing Camera Adapter Bracket allows a video conferencing camera to be mounted in a Draper ceiling recessed projector lift. The bracket is available with three Draper lift models; choose the lift based on how far down out of the ceiling the camera needs to travel.

Draper also offers three unique types of backgrounds to bring your video conferencing to life, help you communicate more effectively and set your content apart. Draper’s neutral backgrounds come in six muted earth tones, and eliminate distractions, help prevent unwanted interference, control room lighting and ensure a consistent corporate image. Custom printed backgrounds can contain custom artwork, photographs, corporate logos and more. Chroma Key Backgrounds, typically referred to as “blue screen” or “green screen” technology, make it easy to change background images or show live action video footage.

Draper Intros New Screen Surface Selection Tool

(Spiceland, Ind.) – When selecting a projection screen surface, there are many variables to consider, including screen gain, surface color and screen material. Matching up screen surface capabilities with room conditions can get complicated very quickly, but Draper Inc. has simplified the process with a powerful new Web tool.

Draper’s new screen surface selector takes into account variables such as projector brightness, light on the screen, projector location and specs and more to narrow screen surface choices to “good,” “better” and “best.”

“This new tool is unique to Draper and was entirely designed and developed in house. Our Quality Lab team performed numerous performance tests on each surface for gain, ambient light rejection, contrast, and more, all of which support the logic behind the tool,” according to Draper Advertising Manager Penny Sitler. “Members of our field sales staff provided real world input on the performance of these surfaces in a variety of settings, and our web development team spent many hours integrating the results into an easy-to-use and reliable selector.”

The new screen surface selector was developed using InfoComm standards as a basis for screen selection, and designed to be easy to use by people with basic or advanced AV knowledge.

Draper Hires National AV Consultant Manager

(Spiceland, Ind.) – Draper, Inc., has announced the hiring of a new National AV Consultant Manager.

Industry veteran Steve Cook will work with Draper to support AV Design consultants and projection manufacturers.

Kloss worked closely with Draper to introduce video projectors and projection screens into the residential market.

“I’ve partnered closely with Draper throughout most of my career working for projector manufacturers,” Cook says. “For me, joining Draper has been less like working for a new boss and more like coming home to work with old friends.”

“We have had a great relationship with Steve for many years and have always been impressed with his abilities and expertise in AV industry,” according to Lee Denhart (LEED®AP), Field Sales Manager for Draper. “We are very excited to have him on board and look forward to utilizing his many talents to grow Draper sales and brand awareness.”
