Bretford Introduces First Nework-Ready Laptop Cart For Education

BRETFORD INTRODUCES FIRST NETWORK-READY LAPTOP CART FOR EDUCATION

Provides Infrastructure For Network Connection To Simultaneously
Manage Computers; Available for Order Starting Today

CHICAGO — March 2, 2012 —Bretford Manufacturing, Inc., a United States manufacturer of dependable furniture products that improve how people work and learn, today introduced its first network-ready 32-unit laptop cart for K-12 and higher education environments. Designed to charge, sync and fully manage up to 32 laptops from inside the cart, the MDMLAP32NR is available for order starting today and will ship at the end of this month.

“Our education customers have been asking for a Bretford cart that not only stores and charges the laptops and netbooks being used by students during the school day, but one that also acts as a ‘mobile computer lab’ allowing the devices to be synced and updated from inside the cart,” said Dan Berger, product manager for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. “Our new network-ready cart gives IT administrators and technology directors the ability to simultaneously send security patches, software updates and software installations, which saves a tremendous amount of time compared to the existing practice of removing each computer one at a time and updating individually. In addition to storing and charging the computers, the cart provides the infrastructure to facilitate this connection to the network so that all the laptops and netbooks can be managed together.”

The new cart comes with 32 cables wired to each storage slot and an additional one for connecting the switch to the port on the side of the cart for a total of 33 cables. It has a dedicated space for a 19-inch rack-mounted network switch and also includes an external network port on the outside of the cart for accessing the network. For complete organization within the cart, the MDMLAP32NR is separated into four compartments that store eight devices each for a total of 32 laptops. Laser printed numbers provide identification on every device slot and the plastic shelf dividers may be removed for storing larger items so educators can tailor the cart to their needs.

The MDMLAP32NR has Bretford’s signature “Power Manager” system to analyze power requirements. The Power Manager uses a “Round Robin” charging cycle that constantly evaluates the demand for power and concentrates on the devices that need it most. The Power Manager not only prevents circuit tripping, but also allows each set of device batteries to cool down between charging cycles, thereby extending their life. Two thermal-controlled fans and venting on the side panels serve to dissipate heat, keeping the internal temperature of the cart within the laptops’ recommended limits.

For easy accessibility, the cart has full doors in the front for the educator and doors in the back for the IT administrator. Security is provided by the solid steel construction and unique locking handles that can be opened using either a re-programmable combination or a key. The cart also has cord winders on both sides, one for the power cord and the other for a network cable.
The MDMLAP32NR is made in the U.S. at Bretford’s Franklin Park production facility. It is currently pending UL60950 Certification for safety of technology equipment. The cart is constructed using an average 30 percent post-consumer recycled steel content and is finished in environmentally-friendly powder paint. Its steel components are 100 percent recyclable at the end of the product life cycle.
Availability
The MDMLAP32NR laptop cart is available for order starting March 1, 2012 and will ship later this month. For more information about Bretford visit Bretford.com or call 1-800-521-9614. Bretford can also be followed on Twitter at www.twitter.com/bretfordmanf.

BRETFORD LAUNCHES EDU 2.0TM EDUCATION FURNITURE SYSTEM FOR CONNECTED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

BRETFORD LAUNCHES EDU 2.0TM EDUCATION FURNITURE SYSTEM FOR CONNECTED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

System Addresses Mobile Technology and Power Needs for Staying Connected; Shipping in March; First Line to Achieve CarbonNeutral® Product Certification; Shown at TCEA 2012

CHICAGO — February 8, 2012 — The classroom experience is no longer passive — and there’s more than one way to learn. Because technology used in education is constantly changing, it is critical for schools to be able to accommodate these changes. For this reason, Bretford Manufacturing, Inc., today announced its EDU 2.0™ system of smart, flexible furniture that supports technology for 21st century learning, is available for order starting February 20 and will begin shipping within 20 business days. The complete line, which is comprised of tables, desks, presenters, and seating products with countless power and design options, is among the first in the contract furniture industry to achieve CarbonNeutral® product certification for a greener school supply chain and healthier learning environment. Bretford will show many of the EDU 2.0 furniture products in its 30′ x 30′ booth (#2365) during TCEA, February 8-10 in Austin, Texas.

“Technology keeps changing the way ideas are shared — it allows for learning to happen anywhere,” explained Chris Petrick, CEO for Bretford Manufacturing, Inc. “The integration of mobility devices into schools has evolved the way teaching and learning occurs, but many schools haven’t been updated to accommodate this technology. EDU 2.0 furniture provides the necessary connection.”

“Bretford has been at the forefront of recognizing the paradigm shift in education and how the support for technology-enabled learning requires new ways of designing and furnishing learning spaces,” explained Dr. Tim Springer, president and founder of Human Environmental Research Organization — HERO, Inc. “Bretford uses evidence-based practices, and absorbs and integrates the latest thinking and relevant research into its process better than any manufacturer. The grand result is the first of its kind: the EDU 2.0 furniture line for education.” In the Bretford booth during TCEA, Springer will present mini sessions on mobile learning based on a new, collaborative iPaper entitled “Mobility & Learning in the Digital Age.”

CarbonNeutral® Product Certification/Sustainability
As part of its dedication to taking care of the environment, the complete EDU 2.0 line is among the first in the contract furniture industry to receive CarbonNeutral® product certification. As a result, Bretford is working towards reducing its carbon footprint to net zero through a combination of internal efficiencies and external carbon offsets. This means that choosing the EDU 2.0 products allows educators to have healthier learning environments with furniture that is made using low-carbon production processes that help green their supply chain. Bretford has also earned CarbonNeutral® Company Certification. And many of the products in the EDU 2.0 line are pending GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) certification and Children & SchoolsSM product certification for low-emitting products.

EDU 2.0’s New Finish Offering
Bretford is using new manufacturing processes and techniques in its U.S.-based production facilities to not only offer the updated aesthetics shown in the design of the EDU 2.0 line, but also to streamline production. Bretford has expanded its standard finish palette offering to include a comprehensive selection of standard laminate, veneer, paint, and trim options that can be mixed and matched to achieve a look that fits in perfectly with the school space.

Powermat® Technologies Preferred Partner
Bretford has been selected as a preferred Powermat Technologies partner for the education market. The wireless power technology transforms the EDU 2.0 furnishings into readily accessible, invisible power stations. Powermat’s inductive coupling model for energy transfer eliminates wires, cords and hassle. It senses when a device is fully charged and halts power delivery effectively eliminating energy waste. And, it is backed by a one-year warranty. It is convenient and universal for students and educators and gives them technology at their fingertips so the focus is on learning instead of worrying about the battery life of the electronic components.

EDU 2.0 Products

Almo Professional A/V Gives Partners an “Edge”

Almo Professional A/V Gives Partners an “Edge”
With New Edge Blending Webinar

Offers AV Integrators in Digital Signage and Rental & Staging
a Tool to Differentiate from Competition and Impact Viewers

Philadelphia, PA — January 10, 2012 — Almo Professional A/V, the nation’s fastest growing audiovisual distributor, is starting 2012 strong with the first AV webinar to focus on edge blending, a new projector technique that visually combines several projected images to make a seamless, single image. Registration is now open for the “The Fundamentals of Edge Blending,” scheduled for Wednesday, January 18 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EST. An encore session will also be available on February 16 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EST and the presentation will be available live on the Spring 2012 leg of Almo Pro A/V’s E4 AV training and networking tour.

“We are starting our webinar series with a fresh round of sessions developed to help our partners differentiate from the competition with techniques that add significance and creativity to an install,” said Melody Craigmyle, vice president of marketing for Almo Professional A/V. “Edge blending is a topic that has not been widely addressed, yet it can have so much impact on the overall effectiveness of an application.”

“Edge blending is part art, part science and definitely a craft to be learned,” explained Alan Brawn, principal of Brawn Consulting and presenter for the webinar. “It addresses two growing markets: digital signage and rental & staging. Edge blending allows integrators in these markets to create incredible images that are otherwise not possible. In simple terms, this gives the creative side of the AV world another tool to leave a lasting impression on viewers.”
Edge blending is done by increasing the size of a projected image to make it very wide or by combining a number of lower resolution devices together to increase the total resolution of a display. In both cases, a number of projectors are needed, which are overlapped and then visually joined together using edge blending processing. “The Fundamentals of Edge Blending” webinar examines how edge blending actually works by focusing on the projector layout, installation and pixel overlap. The session also looks at brightness and color matching to create a contiguous image from a single projector. Applications discussed will include image magnification, curved screens, simulation, unconventional screen sizes and shapes, high resolution imaging, continuous screens and techorating.

About Almo Professional A/V’s Webinar Program
In addition to edge blending, over the next month Almo’s webinar program includes these sessions: “Introducing MusicLites by Artison” on January 19 and “URC Commercial Control – Take A Look Inside” on February 2. For more information, go to www. http://www.almoproav.com/events/.

Almo Professional A/V and MusicLites® Harmonize to
Offer Wireless Lighting Audio Combo

Almo Hosting MusicLites® Webinar on November 16;
MusicLites on Almo’s E4 AV Tour

Philadelphia, PA — November 15, 2011 — As natural as the combination of lighting and sound, Almo Professional A/V, the nation’s fastest growing audiovisual distributor, has teamed with ARTISON and OSRAM SYLVANIA, producers of MusicLites®, to bring some of the best lighting and high-fidelity audio available today to the industry. To give its partner community the opportunity to learn more about the MusicLites product, Almo Pro A/V is hosting a free webinar on November 16, entitled “Where There’s Light, There’s Music.”

MusicLites was featured on the Almo E4 AV Fall 2011 tour and will continue to exhibit throughout the E4 2012 program, which is scheduled to make four stops across the country.

“MusicLites provides our partners with a high-profit, low-cost lighting/audio combination that offers easy installation and maintenance – there’s just nothing out there like this,” explained Sam Taylor, executive vice president and COO for Almo Professional A/V. “It is impressive that ARTISON and OSRAM SYLVANIA have engineered a product that is both an efficient LED light and a great sounding wireless speaker all in the same package. Consequently, there was an extreme amount of interest in the MusicLites product from those attending our E4 Fall events in Chicago and New York City last month, which prompted the creation of a webinar to provide more information about the simplicity and benefits of the product for commercial applications.”

“Almo Pro A/V has the best commercial partner base in the industry – they are smart and savvy so they understand how a product this simple can provide endless opportunities for new and existing accounts,” said Cary Christie, president and CEO of ARTISON. “It was crucial for us to meet many of these resellers, consultants and integrators on the E4 tour and we look forward to learning more about their needs and sharing more about the MusicLites product during the webinar and at the E4 2012 events.”

MusicLites provides whole-facility audio distribution without the expense of traditional installations. The product combines an efficient 10-watt LED light, a 70-millimeter full-range high-fidelity loudspeaker and a wireless audio receiver in a module that is compatible with any audio source. The product fits into four-, five- or six-inch recessed cans, replacing traditional in-ceiling speakers. MusicLites delivers light output that is equivalent to a 65-watt reflector bulb and dimmable by remote control. It is ideal for commercial applications ranging from small professional offices and hotels to restaurants and retail stores.

About the MusicLites Webinar
The free Almo webinar, “Where There’s Light, There’s Music,” focuses on how MusicLites can be used to cost- and time-effectively meet challenging installations. Participants will learn how to increase profit margins and make projects more competitive for distributed audio. They’ll also learn why giving clients the latest in technology adds “wow factor” to any proposal. To register for this webinar or to see others in the Almo Pro A/V webinar series, click here.
