SOUND DEVICES DEBUTS NEW MIX ASSIST FEATURE FOR 788T DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDER AT IBC 2011

Distinguishes Background Noise from Speech During Recording

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 10, 2011—Sound Devices, specialists in production sound, is debuting Mix Assist™, a new feature for the 788T Multi-Track Digital Audio Recorder, at this year’s IBC show (Hall 8, Stand E72). This new feature is available as a no-charge firmware update to all new and existing 788T customers.

Sound Devices 788T is a powerful, eight-input, 12-track digital audio recorder designed for sound engineers mixing on location for films, documentaries, episodic television and reality TV. As these applications are commonly dialog-heavy and unscripted, the new Mix Assist turns down unused microphones while instantly activating only microphones that are in use, making it easier to get clean dialog recordings. Mix Assist activates only one microphone per sound source, attenuating unused microphones by 15 dB.

“Mix Assist listens for the background noise level and adapts its algorithm as background noise levels change,? says Jon Tatooles, managing director of Sound Devices. “This feature is especially helpful for 788T users doing fast-paced, dialog-driven productions that need get clean dialog recordings. We look forward to introducing Mix Assist at IBC to our professional users worldwide.?

Building on the proven success of the 7-Series architecture, Sound Devices 788T Multi-Track Digital Audio Recorder boasts eight full-featured inputs that ensure superb audio quality, accept either microphone or line-level signals, provide 48-V phantom power for condenser microphones, offer peak limiters for microphone inputs and feature fully adjustable high-pass filters, all in a compact package. The 788T, like all Sound Devices products, is versatile and designed to withstand the physical and environmental extremes of field production. The front panel is gasketed for water resistance.

Sound Devices, LLC designs and manufactures portable audio mixers, digital recorders and related audio equipment for feature film, episodic television, documentary, news-gathering, and acoustical test and measurement applications. The eleven-year old company designs and manufactures from its Reedsburg, WI, headquarters with additional offices in Madison, WI, and Schaumburg, IL. INTEGRATED MICROWAVE TECHNOLOGIES, LLC (IMT) INTRODUCES RF CENTRAL PHT-IV HIGH POWER TRANSMITTER FOR AFRICAN BROADCAST MARKET AT 2011 IBC SHOW

Portable Suitcase Design Allows for
High Quality Video Transmission in an Easy to Use Package

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 10, 2011 – Integrated Microwave Technologies, LLC (IMT), a Business Unit within the Vitec Group’s Videocom Division, and a leader in advanced digital microwave systems serving the Broadcast, Sports & Entertainment and MAG (Military, Aerospace & Government) markets, introduces its RF Central PHT-IV portable high power transmitter, specifically designed for the African broadcast market, at the 2011 IBC Show (Hall 1, Stand D40).

Incorporating the RF Central award-winning microLite HD transmitter, the PHT-IV HD upgradable portable digital transmitter is flexible in design, allowing the microLite camera transmitter to be used standalone at 100 mw or with an integral power amplifier that delivers 5W output power.

“We continue to witness the phenomenal growth of the broadcast sector across all African countries,? says Integrated Microwave Technologies President Stephen Shpock. “This growth was made possible by opening Africa’s broadcast market to new investment and competition from IPTV and satellite operators as well as an increase in advertising revenues and available TV channels. The PHT-IV was designed to provide the emerging markets with a reliable and cost-effective product that can handle their new video transmission needs.?

Configured as the PHT-lV-H model, the transmitter is available with a standard 7W power output. The PHT-IV is highly portable and purpose-built with a tough plastic miniature suitcase design. It is ideal for use as a temporary transmitter for fixed or mobile applications.

The unit boasts a simple and user-friendly design with top-mounted controls that include all fundamental MPEG video and channel programming parameters. In addition, there is a linear variable attenuator to control power output. Power on/off and over-temperature alarm indication is also available. Cooled by three internal high velocity fans and housed in a weather-resistant case, the PHT-IV can operate in either a closed or open case configuration.

The PHT-IV can transform virtually any vehicle into a COFDM digital microwave “live car? with access to 12 VDC and the addition of an optional antenna. The PHT-IV is also usable in a fixed position or standalone mode for temporary transmit application.
Available formats include 480i, 576i, 720p and 1080i. The unit can be configured to accept composite, component, HD, SDI and ASI inputs. Audio capabilities include analog, digital AES and fully embedded audio.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for African broadcast operators to keep up with the pace of the pursuit for viewers and subscribers, as licensed and unlicensed operators embrace new technologies such as online and mobile TV,? adds Shpock. “Broadcasters will also face another challenge due to the imminent switch to all digital broadcasting while the number of new competitive television and radio stations will continue to grow. The PHT-IV is an example of IMT’s commitment to providing the global broadcast industry with solutions that allow them to operate more efficiently in today’s ever changing environment.?

In addition, a configurable DC power cabling system and AC power supply allows many options when connecting the system in the field. The adapters and cables can be mixed and matched between the receiver and transmitter for total flexibility, ensuring the user won’t get caught with mismatched power cables ever again.

The entire microLite HD Elite system is packaged in a waterproof pelican case that can go anywhere. The case is custom fitted for all the accessories and has extra space for cables and adapters.

SOUND DEVICES INTRODUCES PIX TO THE EUROPEAN MARKET AT IBC 2011

New Line of Portable Audio/Video Recorders Debuts at this Year’s Show

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 9, 2011 — Sound Devices, experts in portable hard-disk recording for audio, is presenting its first line of portable audio/video recorders to the European market at IBC 2011 (Hall 8, Stand E72). Sound Devices brings its recording technology to video with the introduction of PIX audio/video recorders, consisting of two models — PIX 220 and PIX 240.

sound-devices-pix-240.jpg

“Sound Devices previewed its new line of PIX recorders at this year’s NAB show and had such an overwhelming positive response, that we are now officially launching the product at IBC,? says Jon Tatooles, managing director of Sound Devices. “Continuing our heritage in field production, we’ve taken the next step and introduced high-performance video along with high performance audio with our new PIX recorders. While our existing products have become the audio recorder of choice for countless productions worldwide, camera and sound operators alike will soon be able to count on these new high-performance audio/video recorders in the field as well.?

The new PIX 220 and PIX 240 can be connected to cameras with HDMI and can record directly to QuickTime using Apple’s ProRes or Avid’s DNxHD codec. Since PIX recorders use ProRes and DNxHD, files recorded in the field can be used directly in post-production, making the workflow simple and fast. The PIX 240 adds even more flexibility, with its HD-SDI input and simultaneous SDI and HDMI outputs.

The audio circuitry on the PIX 220 and PIX 240 was based on Sound Devices’ award-winning 7-Series digital audio recorders. The low-noise (-128 dBu EIN), high headroom, high-bandwidth inputs are mic/line switchable and include limiters, high-pass filters and phantom power.

PIX 240 includes a built-in Ambient Clockit time code generator/reader with Genlock output for multi-camera and double-system sound applications. The source time code can be derived from the SDI stream, from an external source, or from the built-in generator in PIX 240. Additional features include digital audio inputs on AES3, and an external eSATAp connection for direct connection to large SATA storage volumes.

Both PIX 220 and PIX 240 include generous five-inch, 800×480 pixel LCD displays. This display is essential in the field and it gives immediate confirmation of recording, playback, audio metering and Setup Menu selections. A side panel rotary control and four front-panel buttons provide quick access to setup options while the large, illuminated, tactile record controls give instant confirmation of recording status.

PIX recorders are built with a metalized, molded carbon-fiber chassis and are powered by external 10-18 VDC or two removable Sony L-battery mount power supply.

Sound Devices, LLC designs and manufactures portable audio mixers, digital recorders and related audio equipment for feature film, episodic television, documentary, news-gathering, and acoustical test and measurement applications. The twelve-year old company designs and manufactures from their Reedsburg, Wisconsin headquarters with additional offices in Madison, WI and Highland Park, IL.
